Details:
The Superintendent’s House epitomizes Crested Butte’s Victorian heritage, as acknowledged by its inclusion on the State of Colorado’s Register of Historic Places. Built in the 1880s, the house was relocated to Maroon Avenue in 1971 from its original location on Big Mine Hill. This large wood frame dwelling served as the residence for the Superintendent of Colorado Fuel & Iron Company’s mining and coke oven operations in the Crested Butte area from 1883 until 1952. The house’s design is representative of Colorado Fuel & Iron Superintendent housing in company towns throughout the state of Colorado. Built by the company, they were the most substantial and architecturally sophisticated residences in the community.
Today, the four bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom property artfully combines historic distinction and modern refinement. The home retains the original oak wood flooring; its distinctive features also include crown molding, wainscoting, interior doors with transoms, and a gas fireplace. The spacious first level is comprised of a comfortable open floor plan, which is hard to find in Crested Butte. The open kitchen enjoys a breakfast nook, a six-burner Viking range and hood, a GE Profile dishwasher, a stainless steel Amana refrigerator, plentiful cabinet space, and granite counters. Very roomy for your family and friends.
Natural light pours into the living spaces on both levels of the home, yet the mature Spruce trees and southern orientation on its parcel create a sense of privacy and seclusion. Upstairs, the stunning vaulted ceilings feature skylights in each bedroom and reclaimed wood beams in the larger master suite. These skylights make for a very romantic and elegant feature.
Located in the town center of Crested Butte, the house is within walking distance of the town’s popular restaurants, bars, and shops. Other amenities within walking distance include Rainbow Park (1/2 block away), the recreational walking/biking path, the Upper Loop trail system, and the Slate River. The Superintendent’s House also features a landscaped yard, a classic covered front porch, a backyard paver patio perfect for summer gatherings with furniture to enjoy outdoor meals, and a detached 1-car garage in the rear.

We spent ten days in CB this August and the home worked great for us. There were 7 of us and the home was spacious (really spacious by in-town CB Standards), well stocked with anything you needed and well maintained.
The location was terrific for our summer activities as it is basically next to Rainbow Park (we had two young children) and great access the trails that feed off of it, including down to the Slate River for splashing around. It's also a nice stroll distance to the heart of Elk Avenue. We walked to dinner each evening we went out, even when it rained. No need for a car in town at all. For skiers, its about a block and a half from the four way mountain express stop.
In all, an excellent CB rental and I think a good value.

House is awesome. Just a block off elk so you can relax on the front porch but a quick walk or bike ride to town. Greg is an awesome host and great on communication. We will definitely be back. Mountain charm and all the rooms are big so you never feel cramped.

The ultimate home for a family gathering. Great kitchen, living and comfortable bedrooms. Easy walk to Elk Av. and the bus stop. We will return.

We’ve been coming to CB for years, this is one of the better homes we’ve rented for our stay. Well equipped. Large. Plenty of room. Close to it all.

House was awesome with a great layout. Quiet neighborhood very close to main CB street. About a 4 min walk to the shuttle to the mountain. Plenty of towels, linens, heaters, fans, etc. garage worked great for key storage. Digital key entry. Main bed/bath is beautiful. Greg was very responsive when one of the fire alarms ran out of battery and it was quickly fixed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the historic Superintendent’s House in Crested Butte! The location near Rainbow Park and the town center was perfect, and the house accommodated our group of 10 (6 adults and 4 kids) very comfortably. The spacious (and well-equipped) kitchen, dining, and living areas were great, and the front porch and back patio were also enjoyed by all. The owner was great to communicate with and he quickly responded to contacts before and during the trip. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks!!

We had a wonderful time in this house for a week. The essentials were perfect: clean house, comfortable beds, terrific neighborhood.
The extras were being close to the playground, town, and shuttle bus. And plenty of room to both spread out and gather. And a great kitchen, well stocked with dish ware, cookware, and cooking essentials.

We spent two weeks in this great house as we celebrated the successful liver transplant surgery and recovery of our son (donor) and his best friend (recipient). The recipient and his family along with two other dear, close families joined us in Crested Butte to celebrate alongside us. Their rental homes were all within two blocks of us which was fabulous and made getting together easy. We are a very active, outdoor group of friends and loved the ready access to the cross country/snow shoe/walking/fat tire trails and the ease of hopping in the ski mountain shuttle bus which is only 1.5 block from the house and very easy to use. It is free and runs every fifteen minutes in the height of ski season. The house is also a very short walk, just a few blocks to all of the shops and restaurants on Elk Ave. Clark's Grocery store, Ace Hardware, the wine store, etc. are all very close by. We hardly used the car over the two weeks other than to access trailheads further afield for backcountry skiing and snow shoeing. Walk to the end of the road during golden hour and enjoy the incredible view of Mt. Crested Butte. We got great shots of the moon rise over the mountain as the sun was setting. Gorgeous. The house felt like a home away from home. The kitchen was incredibly well equipped which was important to us as we love to cook! The beds are really comfy and the bedroom/bathroom set up was great. In fact, I loved the master mattress enough to inquire re its model. The host was super helpful responsive to any inquiries we had. We will surely return to this home in the future if is it still listed on VRBO. Highly recommend!

Perfect house for two families (8 people total). Cozy, but plenty of space for everyone. Short walk to the bus for skiers and to town for non-skiers. Greg was quick to respond to questions and very helpful our entire trip. We had a great time!

I rented this house for my 60th birthday with the amazing girlfriends I've been celebrating milestones with for over 40 years now. This house was the absolute perfect setting for us to hike, bike, play cards, laugh, dance, cook and even do yoga together in the living room. The house is beautiful, comfortable, has tons of character and is in the perfect location. We could not have made a better choice for our celebration. Thank you so much Gregg!

Like a home away from home, a wonderful set up for family dinners game/movie nights, following a great day of skiing! Very comfortable home, nice layout with well -stocked chef’s kitchen that opens into dining/living areas. Short walk to bus in AM to ski, return home then watch kids run down block to play in community park, change clothes and walk to town for great dinners (or walk to grocery store and back to fix dinner in awesome kitchen), and end the evening with a night walk back into town for (not too late-)night ice cream! Nice to ditch driving for a week! We met my brother and his family here (from AL)- their kids never skied before, and didn’t want to leave by the end of the week. One non- skiing adult still had a wonderful time, and they now plan to return to Crested Butte to experience summer, which is even more magical! Thank you!

My family and my sister's family stayed at the house for Spring Break 2021. The house was well equipped and conveniently located. We took the Town Shuttle every day to the slopes. The Shuttle stop was a block away and convenient for the whole family. The beds were all comfortable and the house was neat and clean. Every utensil we needed was provided. Book this house with confidence. You will enjoy your stay!

We had a great experience as we recently rented this house for 5 days. Old home that has been restored. We absolutely loved it. Great location close to downtown area and just a couple of miles from skiing. You can also walk to shuttle close by that will drop you off downtown or the ski resort. I would highly recommend looking at this place. We will most definite rent again if we come back to CB!!

Beautiful home, nicely appointed, great location, peaceful and quiet street, close to town/parks/bus, attentive owner and property manager. Two families and we had plenty of space. It is a wonderful spot for a get-away or a longer vacation.
