About this house rental
Welcome to The Dog House! We have a pet- and family- friendly townhouse set up for frequent travelers. It’s comfortable and well-appointed, with an eclectic mix of antiques and brand-new furniture, steps away from key attractions that bring people to Old Town Alexandria, Washington DC, and National Harbor. Here, you will enjoy all the comforts of home. The fully equipped kitchen includes oven, dishwasher and refrigerator/freezer with ice-maker. Small appliances include blender, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The Dog House has wifi, Cable TV, and board games. There is also a washer and dryer if you need to get some laundry done while you are here.
With ample living space and a patio on the main level and two bedrooms upstairs, it’s easy living for families or people with differing schedules. The master bedroom has a queen bed with closet and dresser. The second bedroom has two twin beds with closet and dresser.
Capital Bikeshare, District Taco, gourmet coffee, convenience store, and Balducci’s: all within 1 block. Easy access to: Downtown DC (about $20 Uber ride,) ~20 min walk to Metro; Convenient to DCA; 6 blocks to King St.; 4 blocks to the historic GW parkway and Potomac River recreation path. Easy access to I-95. Perfect headquarters for a visit to the Nation's Capital.

We had a great time in Alexandria and DC. The house was very clean and not too far of a walk to King Street. The house worked just fine for the 5 of us (kids age 8 and 9). Alexandria is a cool town if you like history, shopping, and good food. The free trolley up and down King Street is a great plus.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Dog House is quaint, charming, and perfectly located. Balducci's Grocery was a daily stop and made our evenings.

This was our first time renting. This place was so welcoming the moment we opened the door. It was so clean and the host has all the daily essentials there for you. It was easy to get around town and super close to public transportation which made it easy to get into DC. I would stay here again.

The Dog House and Alexandria was perfect for our family passing through the DC area for a few days. We were all delighted by the Dog House's charm and downtown Alexandria was such an unexpected treat. Wish we had more time to explore!

The dog house is a great place to stay. We are a family of four and had a great time on our long weekend trip, we had plenty of room for the 4 of us, the house was very clean. The location is hard to beat, this was our second time coming to DC, but our first in Alexandria, we loved it. It was nice walking to king street, down to the water, and just all around. It seemed like we were just steps from everything. Joel was a great host, the house had anything we could possibly need, we had a question while we were there and we got a response right away. This is definitely a place we would stay again without question.

From our first day to our last, this townhome was perfect. The townhome is well supplied with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. A well equipped kitchen, wonderful linens, GREAT location, GREAT ambiance. Close to public transportation, we did not need a rental car.
We stayed two weeks and when we had an issue flying out at the end of our trip, one call to Joel and we he assured us we could stay another night.
We will be planning a return visit and The Dog House will definitely be our place to stay!

Firstly we can't praise the host highly enough. Great communication, and provided lots of useful information. Also very kindly compensated us when we missed our first night in the house as our flight was cancelled due to bad weather.
The house itself is wonderful.Really charming and full of personal touches which make it so welcoming and homely. It was immaculately clean, and whilst obviously ideal if you have a dog,with bowls, food and bed provided, don't let that put you off if you're not a dog owner. There's no doggy smells!
The beds were comfortable.
The shower was good, plenty of towels and nice toiletries.
The kitchen was well stocked , and the host had provided a lot of grocery items, oils, spices, etc. Plus there's a great grocery store nearby for your provisions.
The house has a small outside area with table and chairs, which was an added bonus.
The neighbourhood is fantastic. We felt really safe. Just a 10 min cab ride to the airport, 15 mins into DC. King Street a 10 to 15 minutes walk away is full of great eating places and shops. There's the train station at one end and the waterfront at the other. You can get a water taxi into DC and they also do water tours. There's a free bus which runs virtually the full length of the street.
Only slight negatives are the stairs maybe an issue if unsteady on your feet. Also the house is by quite a busy junction and the traffic builds early, so bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. That said would happily book again.

If we are back in DC, we would stay again.

We had a wonderful girls weekend at this awesome place! We parked our cars when we arrived and that’s where they stayed all weekend. Old Town and King St is several blocks away. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance. The house was very clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful weekend would definitely stay here again.

This has to be the best rental we’ve stayed in. We were there a month and it felt truly like home with everything we could possibly need and the house beautifully decorated and so cozy. We loved everything about it and will definitely return.

We were here for family vacation. The location was with in walking distance of old town for us and close to bus stops when wanting to use the metro. Enjoyed our stay and the owners were so easy to work with! They have the house stocked with anything you could need and have an adorable little place!

Very clean and modern townhouse, close to downtown Alexandria and 15 minutes drive to Washington DC. Many extra perks in the kitchen and basically everything you would need for a relaxing stay.

We are a family of five grown adults and we absolutely enjoyed our stay here. We all fit and while it was cozy, it was clean and relaxing. The area was great for getting around easily to everything we wanted to see and experience. I highly recomment anyone staying here and Joel was very accommodating. A+++

This house was absolutely perfect! The two bedrooms were big and the bathroom was nicely renovated. It's location was amazing and just a short walk into most of the shops in Alexandria. It also was just a short drive into DC. Overall, I would definitely stay here again and loved it so much!

This townhouse is right on the edge of really beautiful old town and we enjoyed walking to the square and along the Potomac. I felt very comfortable in the neighborhood. The interior is very tastefully decorated with all the comforts and extras, especially in the kitchen. The back patio provides a very nice spot to have morning coffee. Beds were very comfy. Not practical for walking to a metro stop, but was only a 10 minute drive to Huntington Station where parking is available for $5. Parking on the street was no problem, always available. Would stay here again.

This home is located in a charming neighborhood in Alexandria, VA. It was easy to use the metro to get into Washington DC. We loved going to the waterfront in the evenings to walk around and find a restaurant for dinner. Joel was an amazing host. He was always availabe if we needed anything. I would stay here again.

Our stay at the Dog House could not have gone better! Pristinely clean, decorated with personal touches, and in the best location! Great proximity to D.C. and to Old Town Alexandria. Walking distance to a great market, taco place, etc. So many options for food and shops close by. We truly can not wait to return to Alexandria and specifically the Dog House.

It was a beautiful house. They put in so much loving detail. It was an ammazing location within walking distance of the waterfront and we had a lovely time.

The house had lots of character - we loved the artworks and general feel of the place. There were a bunch of food items and cooking materials so we could cook reasonably well at home when we wanted to. The USB charging ports in the alarm clocks in the bedroom and on the buffet in the dining room were fantastic for our device-heavy family.
The walk to the waterfront and main historic / shopping area of Old Town was 20 - 30 minutes and there were plenty of things nearby for dinner and grocery choices as well.
This was a great place to stay to catch up with our friends in the DC area.

The Dog House was an amazing location. It was clean and had all the items you may forget when traveling. Downtown Alexandria is in walking distance with amazing restaurants. Joel was quick to respond to messages and very accommodating. It’s definitely a place I’d live to stay again.

I had a wonderful stay at the dog house during Thanksgiving! This was my second time staying here and it was once again clean and had everything I needed. The kitchen was well stocked and I was able to prepare side dishes to bring over to Thanksgiving dinner. I will be staying again!

We had a great week in Old Town! We biked all over the area, 45 min bike ride to the National Mall from the house—an amazing trail along the Potomac right by the airport. We fell in love with the neighborhood and the all the amazing restaurants and ice cream shops, yum! The house was perfect for our family, had everything we needed and our kids loved the unique staircase and the family board games! Excellent property and location. Would definitely rent again next time we visit the DC area.

My family of 5 stayed for 2 nights on our way back from SC. We ALL loved this house. Very inviting, clean and comfortable. The beds were amazing. The townhouse has everything we needed. You couldn't ask for a better location. Parking was a breeze a d could walk to all parts of Old Town. Would definitely recommend!
