The room is very small. You have to complete a form and upload your drivers license AND credit card photo to a suspect online form in order to get an email to get in. The beds are uncomfortable and you will be kept up all night with the hammer-like noise made by the radiator heat. You can also hear every noise in the rooms and halls around you. Avoid.

The room was full of dust. The bed mattress tipped up when we both sat on the opposite end. The air conditioner did not work. When we opened it to make it work we noticed the air filter was filthy, full of dust balls as if it hadn’t been changed it a long time. The remote control for the tv did not work we had to manually turn on the Tv. When we called for service two times we were sent to voice mail when the receptionist was downstairs doing nothing as we discovered when we went down to seek help. The receptionist bad mouthed me when I sighed from being out of breath from climbing the five floors. There is no elevator and very long steep steps to the fifth floor. The decorum is disconnected and random. There was little water pressure in shower or bathroom sink. The grey carpet going up the steps is filthy and very, very old. I will make sure my friends do not stay here.

The room was clean and the neighborhood was fine. Otherwise I wasn’t crazy about this place. Building was old with no elevator. The room was fairly recently remodeled and in good enough shape but was tiny, very noisy from both interior and exterior noise and the bed was super uncomfortable— like sleeping on a box spring. Did not sleep well at all.

You must register with full ID and security info in the days prior to your stay. Don't miss the messages from the property on the Hotels.com app and/or email/text.
With that done you get an email the day before check-in with lobby and room access codes and wi-fi info. Everything went very smoothly apart from some amusing typos in the messages.
My room (with private washroom) was small but very well appointed (coffee maker, bottled water, microwave, fridge, safe, nice TV) and comfortable (good bed, towels, HVAC control).
Front desk periodically has humans but always has Keurig coffee and snacks.
Location is good and well signed. Look for the black awning.
Drawbacks: no luggage storage, maid service or elevator
Solid deal for the price!

You might think a hotel without an elevator would mention that upfront. Nope! You're thinking of a better place than the Chelsea Inn. That should be the headline, but it's hidden in the POLICIES section of their listing. How is "no elevator" a POLICY? Hope you like carrying stuff up narrow staircases!
Did you want a room where you could control the temperature? Sorry, not here; they only turn on the heat at night, so if it's cold out and you sleep late, expect to freeze. Did you expect wifi because it's listed as an amenity? It exists, but when it works it's virtually unusable; it disconnects often and is unusably slow 98% of the time. Want to leave your bags at the front desk? Forget about it! Regularly scheduled room cleaning? Or a sign you hang on your door to request cleaning? Nope. Want to change rooms? You'll need that approved by someone offsite; the person at the front desk isn't empowered to help guests.
For a closet, there's an 18-inch-wide particle board cabinet from Ikea's bargain bin. There's no phone in the room, and (obviously) no room service. There is no lobby. Only registered guests are allowed in the rooms, so don't expect to have any friends or relatives stop by.
This may well be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in - and I've stayed in places that smelled of mold and had no blankets, and in places that rent rooms by the hour to guests who see that as a benefit, if you know what I mean. I would put the Chelsea Inn in the same category as those.

We stayed in the cuty to see the Thanksgiving day parade

We enjoyed our stay here. Great value in a nice location.

Stay was great, but Hotels.com screwed up on the booking and it was not enjoyable to deal with them. I will go direct next time.

This was a great and friendly space. The staff are not on call 24 hrs a day but enough for me. They managed to move me from the 5th floor to to the 2nd floor after one day! Thank you!! The stairs are steep because it is an old refurbished building.the “houseman” moved my luggage for me. It was clean, safe and charming. The staff brought my Uber eats up to my room and he even told me a tip was unnecessary.

Great place to stay in New York City incredibly clean and quiet. They only issue is no elevator so be prepared to climb a few stairs. It’s worth the effort. I will stay there again.

I said to the check in person, ‘my room number is 407. Is there no lift’ she replied ‘theres no lift.’ I said I had checked in online and she said ‘you can go straight up.’ When I got to the 4th floor it turned out I was on the wrong stairwell. I had to go back down and walk up another four flights of stairs with my suitcase. The room was filthy with garbage everywhere and the bed unmade. I had to telephone three times to get it fixed.

Hotel doesn’t have an elevator and we were located on the 5th floor.
Inside the room was a radiator that banged very loudly each night.
Mattresses need to be updated.

Clean, friendly, convenient to Union Square/ Chelsea. Narrow walk up stairs

Screaming domestic dispute kept us up half the night. Hotel offered zero help. No elevator, dirty, no nightstands, one light. You’re paying for a prison cell. Hard pass. Avoid avoid avoid!

our room was a lot more small than the picture, however it was clean and cozy.

We had plans to see a show and spend time with friends. This was great as a place to get ready, and to sleep. No frills but adequate. I'd stay again.

Great value. Easy access. However, walls thin, so lots of noise from outside and room next door.

Huge long staircases with no elevator. Helpful employee took suitcase up four flights but no one around at check out. All remote everythng. Cramped, expensive room. Good location but next to noisy party venue. No one there at night to supervise loud party in stairwell.

Though the 4 flights of stairs made it difficult, the hotel clearly has been updated with new bathrooms and other iems. VERY small room but quite comfortable, modern and clean

Such a great location. The room is perfect for nyc. My only complaint is that the mattress was very loud. Not sure if it had a cover on it or something, but every time I made any movement it was noisy. Definitely would stay here again.

Clean and comfortable no frills room, with mini fridge and microwave and coffee maker. Nice closet and desk space too. I opted for a private bathroom option, and there was good shower pressure. The bed and pillows/linens were very comfortable. It's definitely a stay for those who are wanting to be out on the town more than in. Staff were very kind, and it was a quiet stay (over a weekend).

This is a great low-frills option in Chelsea/Flatiron - loved my stay!

It was a great stay at the Chelsea Inn. Room was clean, AC worked amazing for the hot weekend, bathroom was very clean. It was in the perfect location as we did all of the tourist attractions that we want and it was central to everything. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to friends and family!

Customer service was excellent! Wilma was very friendly, helpful to every need we had!

It is what it is, a bed and a bathroom in the Village. If you are looking for a regular hotel room this is not it. It is tiny and crampt with no place to sit, I was solo, two people it would be extremly tight. But you are in the village, thats what you are paying for. There are no real amenities at the property but lots of places around it. It is clean and the bed is comfortable. I have stayed in hotels all over Europe and this is the smallest one in 35 years. That said a regular size room in the area will be easily twice the price. The rooms get cheaper the farther out you get and that adds its own problems. They charge what the market will bear and the market is high, its New York...

Basically a hostel. Shared bathroom, creaky floors, noisy mattress, ikea furniture. Coolant leaking from a/c. My room had no windows.

Elaine greeted us upon arrival and was amazing the entire stay! She was instrumental in making our trip the best!

Decent property-relatively quiet. They said that there was no staff on property, but they were there most of the time..a painting crew was in most of the tight hallways with ladders. No elevator

Bathroom was amazingly nice ..no windows though anywhere. Registration and entry were a nightmare

It has everything I needed: a bed, an air conditioning, and a clean bathroom. The room was spacious enough, though the plastic desk chair did not invite much work!! The bathroom was clean and with plenty of places to put my toiletries. Otherwise, I definitely will stay there again because of the location in Chelsea.
I talked with someone at the front desk when I checked in, but then almost never saw anyone from the hotel through my stay. That was fine, but it was surprising not to see anyone.

Really nice for the cost

I did the shared bathroom option and i could hear the door open to leave the room and to get into the bathroom. Other than that no issues.
