Explore the unspoilt southern end of the Island
This is one of my favourite parts, great coastal path walks from Ventnor to St Catherine’s Lighthouse
Ventnor is a Victorian seaside Town with a beach (note it goes deep very quickly so not as good for kids) There are seafront pubs, cafes and restaurants. Also visit:
● Ventnor Park (Free)
● Ventnor Botanical Gardens
● Steephill Cove This little treasure is an old fishing cove with a small beach, lots of rock pools for crabbing. Some nice little cafes.
o Tip: Park in the road by Ventnor Park (free), walk through the park to the coastal path head West and you will come to Steephill Cove. You can then walk back East and explore Ventnor and loop back to Ventnor park.
● From Steephill cove you can continue walking East to Woody Bay and Binnel Bay, these are not that Sandy but you will probably be the only one there!
● St Catherines Lighthouse – This is a working lighthouse now a National Trust Property so there is a small fee to look round it, check the National Trust website to book a tour. You can walk there along the coastal path or park in Niton and walk to it. After visiting the lighthouse call in to the Buddle Inn, a beautiful 16th century Inn.
East Side IOW
This is more commercial with Shanklin and Sandown being the biggest tourist areas. A few of my favourites over there are:
● Shanklin old town
● Bembridge and St Helens – Quieter and picturesque beaches.
● Appley Beach Ryde
● Robin Hill Country Park good for kids, I prefer Blackgang but they are owned by the same people so you can get a joint ticket, they both allow a second visit free within 7 days as well.
