Die Lage war interessant.

schwer zu finden. Zufahrt steil nach oben und extrem eng. Nach 3 Versuchen geschafft. Das es sich um ein altes, in den Fels gehauenes Gemäuer gehandelt hat, modriger Felsgeruch im Zimmer und extrem enge Wendeltreppe in den dritten Stock zum Bad. Nachdem das Restaurant angeblich ausgebucht sein sollte, wurde mein Abendessen irgendwo bestellt und geliefert. Die Tute wurde in kompletter Verpackung auf den Tisch gestellt. Dann kam die Ansage, sie ginge jetzt weg und käme morgen um 8:30 zurück. ich saß also komplett alleine in einer schlecht zu verschliessenden Bude mitten in der Ardeche. ohne Internet natürlich. Also absolut nicht zu empfehlen. ich bin dann ins Le Belvedere 2 Min. weiter umgezogen, das sehr gut war! sehr freundlich, sehr komfortabe.

Die Unterkunft liegt direkt am Pont d'Arc. Man kann zu Fuß zum Schwimmen gehen. Ansonsten außerhalb und sehr ruhig.

Durch die Lage direkt am Berg ist die Unterkunft sehr feucht und muffig. Leider war das Zimmer nicht ordentlich geputzt (viele alte Spinnweben...). In den 3. Stock gelangt man nur über eine extrem enge, ungesicherte Wendeltreppe. Über Käfer, Spinnen und Insekten in der Unterkunft sowie alte, abgesessene Möbel konnten wir hinwegsehen, nicht jedoch über die Skorpione, die im Zimmer in der dortigen Bergwand (und damit Zimmerwand) über dem Bett wohnen. Wir sind vorzeitig abgereist. Silex tritt zudem als Weinhotel auf, Wein ist dort aber nicht zu bekommen. Die Elektroladesäule ist auf 2,5 kW beschränkt.

the room is build against the rock and this makes it very special. the furniture is of good quality and the location is near the start of the Ardèche river.

the breakfast is French which means a bit simple but okay.

OK, this was a difficult place to rate. For me, this was one of the most enchanting places I've ever stayed. It is a boutique hotel built into the side of a mountain and gives you a cave-like ambiance to match the nearby famous cave paintings. The rear wall was natural rock, as was the floor. There was a monstrously sized tub on the first level. The stairs going up to the mezzanine were also rock. If you are a bit adventurous, the ambiance is truly fantastic. So, keeping in mind that the place is like a cave, you must also realize that certain areas (like the natural stone floor) would be difficult to clean. Don't stay here and complain that there is sand between the stones. It is not air conditioned, but given that it is like a cave it doesn't need to be. If you are looking to make complaints, you will find them here. But I slept wonderfully. The breakfast was exceptional. It is also within easy walking distance of the Pont d'Arc, a natural bridge with a river flowing under it. The actual Art Cave of the Ardeche is about a five or ten minute walk, but you aren't allowed to go in there. The museum was (according to signs) about 6km, but I'm dubious. I thought it was much farther. Still, Le Silex is a wonderful place to stay and we will be back.

Again, don't stay here if you will freak out about dirt between the rock floor. The driveway from the road up to parking is tricky and quite steep. When I was there it was blocked by idiotic tourists that didn't seem to want to get out of the danger zone. We had order out pizza and it was truly horrible.

The location is excellent and the place is beautiful. The breakfast was OK and the staff person was very kind of adapting it for may partner who is intolerant to Lactose and Soy.

The toilet, which is in a separate closet, has not ventilation!!! Plus the door of the toilet room is very tight and you either hit your head when sitting or you close the door after having sat down. The bathtub is in the open and if you want to take a shower you make a big mess of water.
