Early 1800's Bayfront Farmhouse

The Bayfront Farmhouse was the perfect combination for our Downeast Maine family vacation. The home and surrounding area has more than enough family activities with yard games, hiking, biking, and kayaking opportunities outside the front door or within a less than 10 minute drive (bikes and kayaks provided). The home is also an ideal homebase for the region with Acadia National Park, Boot Head Preserve, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, and Roosevelt Campobello International Park easily accessible for day-trips.
The house itself was great for our family of 5. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, spices, etc. for all our cooking needs. Common spaces were comfortable with more than enough room to spread out throughout the house. The large dining table and small kitchen tables are a bonus, but with porch seating and picnic tables in the yard and along the cove we barely used them. More than enough towels and linens were available with a washer and dryer available as needed.
Communication with the host was easy and very positive. They provide an excellent primer on the area to help you feel comfortable before you even arrive at the house. Check-in and check-out were a breeze and very positive experience.
5-star review all around!

We had a wonderful time in Addison. The historic farmhouse is located on a very quiet road. The views of the bay, from the large porch and the shore are awesome and the landscape change all day, thanks to the large tides! The house is fully equipped with everything we needed, plus a lot of books and many puzzles (we tried and finished all of them)! The house was perfectly clean and the rooms were perfect for a good sleep! We truly appreciated the historic charm of the house, since we are owners of an old house ourselves, back in Quebec, Canada! The barn is stocked with bikes, a canoe, two tubes et four kayaks with all the equipment required (safety vests, etc,). We spent many hours exploring the bay and used to go the nice little beach (located on the left in front of the property) for swimming and relaxing. Crowley Island road was a nice place to walk, ride bikes with the kids and watch birds. Right from the porch or while sitting on the shore in front of the house, we never got tired of watching ospreys and bald eagles fishing in the bay all day. We also saw many seals during the week! The house is only minutes away from Sandy river beach, a little gem you don’t want to miss on a short trip to Jonesport! One of the nicest beach in the Bold Coast part of Maine! Finally, Liz is a wonderful host, giving us a call a couple of days before our trip to make sure everything was perfect. She gave us useful informations so we can relax and have a good time! We will come back!

Our stay reminded us of how lucky we were to grow up in that area. We were there for a family wedding and all worked out perfectly. Liz was very responsive whenever I sent a question along. Would highly recommend!

This is a beautiful older home so you have to take that into consideration. The steps going upstairs are steep and the bathrooms are small, but I expected both of those. The steps may be a challenge for some. It is beautiful and the extras are all there! Books, DVDs, and plenty of kitchen items. There are bicycles and kayaks with all the gear to go along, picnic tables, and a fire pit next to the water. Unfortunately, we only used the bicycles and kayaks once because we were out site seeing the majority of the time, but you could entertain yourself easily just with everything available. The location is away from a lot of things, but was centrally located for the sites we were looking to visit. We visited Acadia, Bar Harbor, Roosevelt Campobello International Park, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, Head Harbour Lightstation, Roque Bluffs State Park, Jasper Beach, Sandy River Beach, took the ferry from Campobello to St George and made a loop back through St. Stephen/Calais, as well as visiting other small things.
While at the house we saw lots of birds including multiple bald eagles and deer. The ocean breeze is fantastic, and we stayed very cool despite it being July.
We were there over the 4th of July and Machias had a great parade with a fireworks show (we missed the parade in Jonesport because it was the weekend before the 4th).
I'm sure I've left something out.
Communicating with Elizabeth was very easy and she seems like a genuinely nice, caring person.

Oh wow…I don’t even know where to begin with this review!! We had THE most amazing time at Elizabeth’s amazing home. Firstly, Elizabeth is the sweetest person who was genuinely excited for my family and cared about us having the best time. I truly enjoyed chatting with her and even though we didn’t personally meet, I feel like she is a friend!!
The location of this house is better than you can imagine! My husband and I and our four kids (age 14, 14, 11, and 9) enjoyed the beautiful views, kayaking on the water (and seeing seals), bike riding as a family to the Crawley Island, and swimming in the salt water pond. We bought lobsters at Look Lobster (the people were soooo sweet there) and made the most epic meal! Elizabeth’s kitchen is stocked and had everything we needed to make and eat whole lobsters. We bought 10 huge lobsters for $84 total!!! Elizabeth’s dining room table, with views of the ocean out the window, offered the perfect backdrop! There is also a library in the house with a ton of cool books in it that kept us busy. We went to Jasper beach (which was so cool) and spent a day in Lubec, which I highly recommend. The lighthouse and the state park there are must sees. Overall, if you want an authentic Maine stay, off the beaten path and away from all the tourism, this is the place for you! You will not regret it! We made memories as a family that we will never forget! We didn’t want to ever leave! Thank you Elizabeth for sharing this place with us!

We had a nice visit in this beautiful farm house in a beautiful setting. The host communicated all the necessary details ahead of time. The house was clean and spacious with a well stocked kitchen. There were bikes available for the kids to use in the barn and a wonderful dirt road that served as a long, quiet trail for a walk/bike. We were able to see a seal from the picnic table that is down by the water's edge! WiFi in the house worked great and there are dozens of books and DVDs to choose from for entertainment. We enjoyed our time.
This is an old farmhouse, so if you are sensitive to the smell of mold, you might have some trouble. Many of the windows can't be opened because of age (which the host communicated to us). We had a heavy rain storm during our visit and there was a leak around the chimney upstairs in one room, but it wasn't a bedroom. There was also one mouse spotting. These things aren't atypical for an old farmhouse, but worth knowing if you are sensitive.

My friends and I checked out of this place nearly in tears, we so desperately did not want to leave! I simply cannot rave enough about how cool this property is: a historic farmhouse right by the water with many of its original historical features, with eclectic decorations (including fisherman lamps and several old paintings of sailing ships) that just make you feel like you’re in a movie. You sort of get the feeling like the house is filled with friendly ghosts. My friends and I rented this as a place to host our book club meeting and it was absolutely dreamy. Additionally, the hosts were super accommodating and easing to communicate with. They had the kitchen fully stocked with coffee, tea, various cooking supplies and ingredients— it really felt like we were at home. All the beds were comfy and with a kitchen, dining room, lounge, and library, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to cosy places to hang out.
Long story short: we are already making plans for when we can come back next year!

Elizabeth takes such pride in her property. We were greeted with a call from Elizabeth on the final miles to the quiet retreat from the world’s noise. Every last detail was covered. Approaching the property was a step back in time to a more simpler life. Everything is on the property. We especially enjoyed observing wild life in its natural environment. As we kayaked the bay we were surrounded by seals and birds of prey, happily showing off their catch.
If you’re looking for a place that’s peaceful, clean, spacious and charming with easy access to nature, then this is it!!

FYI- Addison is all the way at the top of Maine close to Canada! We chose this property because of the beautiful old house and close waterfront. We forgot how big Maine is! The house is large and had more space than we needed but it was nice to spread out since we live in a dense and busy city.
This property is wonderful for children, half of the books in the library are children's books and the kids took over the exercise room on the second floor as their living room while we were there.
Our favorite part was the large rock ledge just across the (rarely used) road. The kids roasted hot dogs and marshmallows for s'mores over the fire. In the morning we watched seals fishing in the bay right in front of us!
Elizabeth, the owner of the property called right before the stay to tell us where everything is, how to get in, and to answer any questions.
She is great! We enjoyed our stay very much.
Oh, and bring bug spray! Though, if you forget, Elizabeth has that ready for you too ;-)

This was our second time staying at the farmhouse. The house is kept in excellent condition, amenities are numerous, and the location is just perfect. We love that the kitchen is well stocked so we really didn't need to bring anything but food. The kayaks, canoe, bikes, and tubes were bonuses and put to good use. It is peaceful and a lovely place to stay.

Great property with a fantastic and communicative owner. Wonderfully equipped kitchen and a nice little grocery 3 minutes away makes it easy to cook in, especially considering how few dining options are nearby (a feature, not a demerit). I never return more relaxed from a vacation than when we return from this property.

Our whole experience was fantastic! The house is amazing! The kitchen is well stocked with all the cooking items you might need. There is a dishwasher! That was a game-changer for this vacation. And speaking of game changers, there is also a washer and dryer! That was a wonderful addition to the ease of traveling with kiddos.
The property owners were great! Very communicative and sent us a very helpful list of things to know about the area. They also went above and beyond and made sure that some food staples were stocked, a stick of butter, salt, pepper, and lots of spices. It was so nice to know that we didn't need to pack or buy those items. There was also a great library, that also made for less packing as we didn't need to bring a stack of kids' books!
The area was great! We kayaked right in the cove across the street and biked down the road, it's a nice 2 mile out and back mostly dirt road. The kids loved Sandy River Beach a 15-minute drive from the house.
My one heads up would be if you are traveling with little kiddos the house has a set of stairs that might be problematic/hard to block off if needed.
We were so sad to leave! And will definitely be back!
10.0 / 10.0
The house is old but has been modernized enough to be very comfortable while retaining the charm of an old house. The kitchen is totally modern--nice to have the dishwasher! The living room is lovely, as are the bedrooms. We didn't take advantage of all the amenities on offer, such as kayaking or swimming, but a younger group would love them. It's a great base for exploring Down East Maine. I loved hiking on Great Wass Island and Ingersoll Point, both recommended in the materials that came with the house. Liz, the property manager, called me the day before our stay to go over details and that worked very well. I had a chance to ask questions, and she also gave me her number in case we needed to reach her.

Second summer staying in this beautiful home, and planning to book again next year. Amazing home, perfect location for nature enthusiasts, and the owner has been a breeze to communicate with both summers. Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your slice of heaven- we can’t wait for next summer’s adventure!
10.0 / 10.0
The house itself is comfortable and accommodating with 19th century charm, but all of the little things we have become reliant upon in the 21st century. Property afforded us access to the tidal waters of the Gulf of Maine and basically a front porch view of seals, bald eagles and what we think was a Canada Lynx trotting along the shore. It was amazing to see the transformation that takes place at high and low tide. Our host gave us great direction on the little things like where to go for a great lunch nearby (Pleasant River Drive Thru - excellent!!!) and get groceries. We spent a good deal of time in and around Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. While the travel to and from was less than expedient with slow and winding two-lane highway, it was definitely close enough while also providing us with a real sense of living Down East among the lobstering community. We were only about 10 minutes away from an amazing and rugged adventure at Great Wass Island Preserve. If you're brave enough and can hack some fairly challenging trail conditions, you can get right up to the the Atlantic Oceanside coast where the opposite shore is Europe! Weather was a consistent challenge with heavy fog and coldish temps for July, but weather has been an issue throughout the United States during the summer of 2023. We were happy for our time here in northern coastal Maine. It's a place unlike any we have ever seen. The house, which felt very much like home, is a place we would gladly return to.

The house is beautiful and charming. Has everything you could need and more. You could spend the entire vacation on the property. We went kayaking, tubing on the reverse rapids. Enjoyed the campfire, watching the tide come in. Just beautiful.

Breathe and relax. You’re home and away. Wake up to coffee on the porch and a view of the water. Bedrooms are small, but the house seemed huge for our family of 5. Kids were out right away on the bikes, and then couldn’t wait to kayak and canoe. Very close to little towns to visit and great hiking on Great Waas. Kitchen has EVERYTHING. With all of the extras at the house, you don’t even have to leave. Things to know, stairs to second floor are very steep (but have rails on both sides), The shower is very tiny. The two single beds were very hard. This is an old and quirky house. Since we’re a bit eccentric ourselves, IT WAS PERFECT!

A "blast from the past" it was a comfortable 'old time' experience. Peaceful to sit on the front farm porch & watch the tide roll in and recede. The farm kitchen was enchanting as well as the quaintly decorated living areas. The scenery was amazing. Price was affordable.

This lovely home is in wonderful, peaceful, waterfront spot. It has all the amenities and then some! Liz is an awesome person and is always available for any questions. The bikes, canoe and kayaks made our stay even better! Every day, we saw 4 seals when the tide was coming in. We spent two days at nearby Sandy River Beach in Jonesport, which our 2 and 4 year olds loved. Many unique rocks can be found there when the tide is going out. We highly recommend this property and hope to be back again! Thank you so much, Liz!

We loved staying here! We love antique, character-filled, quirky homes in out of the way places and this was perfect for our family. If you’re looking for chic-ness, fine dining, instagramtrendy vacation spots with multitudes of tourists all around this not for you. If you want a lovely old house with beautiful views and not many people or not much around except natural Maine Downeast beauty you will score here.
Be prepared to drive 30 minutes to a regular grocery store - though 5 minutes away was a very decent grocery store that was better stocked than the one in the nearby town of Columbia Falls 15 minutes away and the people are friendly too - in summer there are good farmstanda, couple good restaurants in Machias where the Hannafords is, especially Helen’s! Great beaches nearby, especially Beals town park. Great hiking at Wass Island Preserve. Next time we will skip 44 Degrees North in Mikbridge. The waitress was great and super friendly. The owner, she was very unpleasant. Hi ale the time to drive up to Lubec and go to Jasper Beach and the lighthouse for sure.
There aren’t a lot of dining options, you have to drive to get a lot of places, the home as I said is a bit quirky. We loved our time up there and the owners are awesome.

This property is everything you could ever want in a vacation property. "Fully furnished," as a descriptor, would undersell how complete it is. One can just show up and have everything needed to cook, recreate, relax, make all sorts of coffee, watch movies, and more.
The property itself is beautiful, inside and out. One can walk across the street and sit for hours, making friends with seals, eagles, birds, and foxes. Inside, the house has many beautiful details and it's a great place to relax in the evening.
Lastly, the owner is wonderful and always available for advice or questions.

Unique, comfortable, beautiful, and convenient
Our only regret for our vacation was not having more time to spend here. Elizabeth was a gracious host and the property fantastic. When we arrived our entire family delighted in wandering from one unique room to the next, enjoying the old charm of the architecture, spacious rooms, and beautiful decorations and artwork. It was perfectly clean as well. The spacious dining room and 3 sitting rooms made our evenings very comfortable. All of the beds were very comfortable as well and we slept soundly in the very quiet neighborhood. One night a thunderstorm passed through and even though the wind screamed and rain lashed, it was cozy in the sturdy old home. We woke to enjoy coffee on the spacious porch or picnic tables by the water, the ocean breeze blowing by, watching bald eagles, foxes, seals, and various birds. It was peaceful and restful, yet centrally located to all of the activities we wanted to do including Sandy beach, Jasper Beach, Rogue Bluff, and a boat tour in Bar Harbor. We also appreciated all of the amenities included in the home such as the well supplied kitchen, washer and dryer, abundance of towels, soft linens, and the thoughtful supply of various soaps. There is even an exciting large library with a thoughtful selection for children. Again, made for cozy evenings. The home is very interesting and unique, comfortable, and the owner very kind. My only recommendation would be to have a little write up about some of the history of the sea captain who built it and the house, and info about the art, as the place clearly has a story and history to tell.
Thank you Elizabeth for the amazing time. Our family has some wonderful memories.

Loved the beautiful old home, loved the location! By far the best vacation we have had as a family. Loved that the home came well stocked with any thing we could have needed, and thoroughly enjoyed the bikes and kayaks provided. My husband and I are already looking at dates for next summer to book this home again.

Amazing place!
I stayed here for a week with my brother and we had a fabulous time! If I could give 6 stars for location and communication with owner, I would. It was such an awesome place, being at the end of the cove and looking out at all the wildlife activity and the changing tides. It is so quiet and peaceful also. We spent a lot of time outside, photographing the eagles, osprey, and seals that frequent the area, as well as just appreciating the beauty of changing tides and light. Elizabeth is truly a Super host, it is clear that she really wants you to enjoy your time here. This place is incredibly well stocked, The house is old, but in a charming way. The stairs are steep, but we got used to it pretty quickly. We loved the artwork in the home, it was just perfect for the setting. We also loved that this area is so much quieter than around Acadia, but also beautiful. We would not hesitate to come back!

The perfect Maine getaway!
What can be said other than this place is amazing! Located on a quite road with incredible views and a short walk or bike ride from Crowley Island. Steam your lobsters and sit out on one of many picnic tables to enjoy you meal. Watch the tides roll in and out . Kayak and canoe on calm water from the private dock. This house has old world character with modern conveniences. We love it here and will be back again! Elizabeth the property owner was always quick to respond to questions and was the most thorough VRBO owner I've ever dealt with! Highly recommeded!!!

Beautiful front porch view of the bay
This is a lovely home with lots of character. It boasts an engaging view of the tidal changes from the front porch. A seal played in the bay most days of our trip. It's a serene and relaxing place to vacation. The host left a Things to List of local hikes and beaches which we would not have known about otherwise. The home was well stocked and had plenty of room. Great trip!

Another great week in Addison
The house is a treasure and as well stocked as any VRBO exchange that I have seen.. The yard is large enough to accommodate croquet, bocci, and that other game in the garage. Sit on the porch and watch the tides do their thing. An outstanding week!
