Akamatra Farm Of Ikaria

The property exceeded our expectations in every way possible.
It was all that we had ever dreamed of, a place to find complete peace of mind.
The house was just like you would expect a Greek Island farmhouse in the mountains and it had all amenities needed.
Our timing helped too, as June seemed to be a quieter and cooler period but warm to enjoy the terrace even at night and the water in the sea was just perfect.
Georgia was a master super/Host, she gave us lots of interesting facts about the islands history and culture and also shared fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden.
She makes the best (and I mean it) the very best Dolmades i have ever tasted.
We were even fortunate to be invited to a wedding at the Akamatra square.
Georgia had a cat and we adopted another one and there were also 5 tiny kittens roaming.
So we will be back again...

Spent 3 weeks in June 2023 in Georgia‘s place. Perfect host, great location (for those who like it remote), beautiful house.,

My husband and I chose Ikaria to celebrate our 70 and 80th birthdays. We wanted a lovely, remote, calm setting and this Akamatra farmhouse couldn't have been more perfect for the celebration. In our rental car, it took us approximately 2 hours to arrive at the Akamatra square. Be prepared to drive 20 km/hr on narrow roads with occasional goats crossing the roads! On the night of our arrival, Georgia, our hostess met us in the Akamatra village square on her motorcycle, guided us to our lodging and helped us up the rugged drive with our bags (our car could not make the climb, so we left it at the base of the hill). Throughout our stay, Georgia was patient with our endless questions, generous with her time and treated us to some of the fruits/vegetables/herbs from her garden. We loved her companionship and conversation! The property itself is located on a rugged, mountainous hillside, with a breathtaking view of the Agean Sea and is nestled among many plants/trees cultivated by Georgia. I cooked most of our meals, found all the needed cookware in the kitchen. I purchased delicious bread and meal ingredients from the Akamatra and Evdilos bakeries, minimart and grocery stores. Pharmacies and gas is available 7 km away in Evdilos. For our 2-week stay, we brought a minimum of clothing, as we'd known a washing machine was available on site. With the humidity, the clothing took 2 days to dry. Many a day we set out in the morning to explore the port of Evdilos and other island towns. Akamatra is centrally located on the island and an ideal base camp. The only downfall for the entire time was our age. Had we been younger and more fit, we would have been able to hike the many island paths, surf, swim in the thermal waters, and enjoy Ikaria to its fullest. Renting motor cycles would also have enabled us to get to even the remotest locations on the island. Regardless, we were enchanted by our stay at the Akamatra farmhouse and recommend it to those wanting a remote island getaway. This fits the bill!

The house is in a beautiful position just 1 km far away from the village in a very calm area; it is a country house, but has every think you need.
Georgia is a very kind host, gives us many tips about the island.

amazingly beautiful
we've stayed at Georgia's farmhouse for almost 2 weeks and fell in love with it. The place is situated in a most beautiful scenery not far above the little town of Akamatra and can be reached from there by foot. If you plan to see more from the island, the rental of a motor-driven vehicle is recommeded.
Georgia lives close by and provided us with vegetables and herbs from her garden and shared her extensive knowledge about Ikaria and nature with us.
The house itself is an old farmhouse that was renovated with lots of skills and should be seen as a good example as it should be. We are impressed how lovely someone can live.

Excellent stay at Georgia's house
The stonehouse is very nice with 2 bedrooms at the first floor an a very well equiped kitchen. The terrace is big and calm and offer a fantastic sea view.
Georgia, the owner, is really nice. She gave us tomatoes from her garden, jam that she made and was always asking if we needed something else. We spent time with her speaking of Ikaria and she gave us lots of great advices.

Amazing experience through the nature and culture of Ikaria
We spent one week in Georgia's house. The house has everything one would need, it is warm and welcoming and it is surrounded by nature... The veranda outside is just wonderful and allows an amazing view on the countryside and the sea!
However, the most important thing for us has been the exchange with Georgia, who is a really kind and interesting person! She gave us a lot of historical, cultural and natural informations about the island, and about the beautiful village of Akamatra (which is an authentic pearl).
The stay in Georgia's house is highly recommended to anyone who wants to have an authentic experience through the culture and nature of Ikaria!!

a dream in reality
Loved the stay in Akamatra, Georgia made sure we were looked after. The traditional house is full of charm and every possible need for a home life is there- I've never been to such a well stocked house, that allowed me to enjoy the view for as long as possible.

Wonderful place
A great place to relax and - in my case - to work remotely.
Very nicely situated above the village, a place with a special energy. Thanks to its location in the center of the island, it is also a perfect starting point for excursions and hikes. And Georgia is also a particularly kind host :)

Amazing summer Akamatra farmhouse
We spent the summer at the Akamatra farmhouse, loved every minute of it, from the spectacular views of the sea and mountains, to its tranquil setting, beautiful flower, vegatable gardens, wild herbs growing everywhere.
One of our favorite things to do, sit on the terrace sip and eat the local wine, food with the owner Georgiana telling stories and sharing laughter. I could go on but you must experience this sanctuary on your own. Thanks Georgiana for this truly unique experience!

Ikaria at it's finest!
Staying at Georgia's beautiful and amazing home is the true Ikarian experience! Georgia was extremely helpful with any questions I had. Her property has many gardens areas with fresh rosemary, sage, cherry tomatoes etc. the Uwe every morning was breathtaking! And at night the stars were all out and about. It is a peaceful and tranquil place to stay. The village of Akamatra is 10 minute walk that has restaurants and a mini market.
I highly suggest you rent a car or a bike because the other areas a bit of a distance away. Also if staying in the summer you should bring some mosquito repellent. They tend to stay up in the mountains :)
I would definitely return and stay at Georgia's home again. I am extremely grateful for the experience ! Thank you Georgia!!!

A beautiful month at Akamatra Farm!
My husband and I spent a wonderful month (May/June) in Georghia's place above the village of Akamatra and can't imagine a better way to come to know Ikaria. The view was lovely and there were many excellent possibilities for walks along dirt roads and paths in the valley and the surrounding mountains. Since Akamatra is almost precisely in the center of the island, it also makes a terrific base for exploration of the entire island by car. Moreover, Georghia is an ideal host, generous and kind, always there when you need her but also respectful of privacy. She is an incredible resource in terms of her knowledge of farming, flora and fauna, and local history and culture. The house is surrounded by small farmed terraces--Georghia's and the neighbor's--and we were kept in fresh (organically grown) strawberries, apricots, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis and fresh herbs. We enjoyed getting to know the neighboring farmer, as well as the billy goat and Dick the dog. The house itself traditional--which is to say small and rustic, and extremely well built. The kitchen is very nice, and it has a built-in sitting area that makes it double as a cosy (if tiny) living space. But the best place to hang out is on the terraces outside, which provide both sun and shade for relaxation and dining. Akamatra's taverna is really excellent, and the sweet village has a tiny but well stocked store, a bakery, and at least two cafes. We hope to return to Ikaria, and if we do, we'll definitely be in touch with Georghia!

This is why you come to Ikaria
Even better than we imagined - hope to return next year. Georgia is an exceptional host - taking time to explain the way of life and to laugh together about the day. She kept us stocked with local produce and treats that was piling up everywhere. We didn't imagine living on fresh goat cheese, the world's best tomatoes and olive oil for a few days, but that's exactly what we did. Wake to roosters (not on property) and fall asleep to the wind in the trees. Akamatra town (fresh bread comes out at 10 or 11) and some excellent hikes/walks are minutes away. No need to plan your day here - just set out and see where you end up. A good base location for exploring the western half of the island, from Armenistis beach to mountain wineries. For parties larger than 2, note that the bedrooms are separated by a soft door, not a wood door. Ikaria is not your typical island, and Georgia's Akamatra Farm is quintessential Ikaria.

Utterly authentic taste of ikarian life
I absolutely loved the property, the house, the goats, and the garden. For those wishing to inspire themselves with a true sense of the car in life this is the place. For those interested in the luxuries of fun resort, this is not the place. That said, Georgia our host was a wealth of information regarding the islands traditions and I hope to return very soon.
