The house was just amazing. And the host was very understanding. I love Big Pine Key.

Captain D’s has everything you need to have an enjoyable and memorable stay in the lower Keys. The place was immaculate when we arrived and I think the area (natural areas) in general is well on its way to recovering from Irma. The Key Deer are plentiful and are roaming the property daily. My only negative is that it is now a 28 day minimum stay which puts me out for ever being able to stay here again until we are retired! It’s a shame because this place is great!

We have stayed at this property a few times in the past year and after many years of vacationing in different parts of the Keys, I think we have found our favorite spot. The house is quite comfortable, is located in a very quiet neighborhood at the north end of Big Pine Key and is absolutely perfect for us. We enjoy the Key Deer that wander through the yard and the fact that we can launch our kayak right from the dock at the backyard. It's also far enough away from much of the light pollution that star gazing is fabulous! We usually have our bicycles with us and it's an easy ride to the Blue Hole and a nature trail. Big Pine Key also has many trails in the Key Deer Refuge that you can hike or bike on. Having the Winn Dixie / CVS / Walgreen's only 5 miles away is also a bonus! Leo, the owner, has been wonderful to work with; he responds promptly to messages and goes out of his way to make sure we have everything we need during our stay. Hands down this is our favorite place to stay and we will definitely keep coming back!

The house was equipped with everything we needed and more. Short run to the reef and the back country. Last but not least, the Key Deer were a pleasure to see.

Fantastic home, beautifully-maintained, super clean, great location and with all the amenities! You really couldn't ask for more. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you Leo!!

We were at the house the first two weeks of July. We arrived with our boat, scuba equipment and paddle boards. It was so perfect for all our water sports. It was a short boat ride to either the Atlantic or Gulf. Paddle boarding was amazing from this location. Each day I paddled into the Gulf and felt like I was in an episode of the National Geographic. There are so many pretty birds, deer, fish, stingrays and lots of baby sharks to see on a paddle. Big Pine Key is a rural non touristy location. By boat we went to Picnic Island several times to see the sunset and swim at the sandbar. We look forward to staying at this house again really soon.

Love the place! This is our 2nd stay here and definitely want to go back!

Very clean, spacious, conveniently located, private and quiet.

This was a lovely property and the decorating was gorgeous. The porch was open and inviting and the family loved to sit up there and watch the key deer and look out at the canal. We brought some kayaks with us and were able to take the kayaks out on the canal. It's a very short ride to the channel. We even kayaked to a small island! We loved all the wildlife--the deer and lizards--that surrounded the property. We also loved the short drive to Bahia Honda State Park for snorkeling and to Key West for some exciting night life and shopping. We had such a fun time and highly recommend Captain D's Hideout.

This is our second year staying here and we just love it. It is soo quiet and peaceful, but only 5min to the nearest shopping center. We bring our boat and can easily get to the contents for fishing,swimming, and diving for lobster, or we can go to Looe Key for even better diving! The owner is very responsive and very helpful. Big Pine is close enough to so many unique places to visit but without the large amounts of people that visit the Keys during the winter months. The owner keeps the house updated, clean, and well stocked. The bait freezer is a great thing to have if you like to fish. Our favorite place to hang out with friends is the back porch....we started everyday out there with coffee and ended each day with drinks and great conversations. Love this place and will be back next year! 😊�

House was well kept and located in the heart of key deer refuge. We saw many deer every day. Location was central to lower keys and just a hop and skip to key west!

This home is wonderful. It's immaculate, peaceful and contains everything you need for a great vacation. Leo responds immediately if you have a question. The outside deck is the perfect place to relax and read a book.

The place is very comfortable and quiet. It is the best equipped rental property we have ever stayed in. We had breakfast every morning on the spaces deck and enjoyed the evening visits from Bambi and her friends. Price was right and left us a few bucks to get stupid on Duval Street.

We enjoyed this vacation so much! The fishing in the canal was a trip saver and a lot of fun. Our little girl is a sweet soul and the deer would come up to her and let her touch them every day. The house , deck, porch, and location was perfect for our family!

Wonderful location for nature lovers! Key deer roam free throughout the neighborhood and are very friendly. The canal out back gives easy access to the Great White Heron National Refuge, by boat, canoe or kayak. We rented a kayak for 4 days at only $25/day nearby on No Name Key. Neighborhood is very quiet and relaxing. The house is beautifully maintained and very clean. You can tell the owners put a lot of time, effort, and thought into it. They were also very easy to get in touch with and returned our calls/emails in a timely manner. The house has all the amenities needed. Wi-fi access was especially nice to have. The 2 covered porches were an added plus. Nearby is No Name Pub. This place has great food in a unique setting and is reasonably priced. Key West is only a 20-30 minute drive away. Bahia Honda State Park is right up the road. Very nice beaches and a good place to kayak and snorkel. The owners graciously provided a pass to the renters so that saves money! We would highly recommend this house to anyone who is looking for a place to vacation. It truly offers the best of both worlds. Immersed in nature but close to shopping and sightseeing. In fact, we're hoping to make this a yearly tradition and we drive almost 1300 miles to get here!

The pictures of this place don't do it justice. Leo and Diana, our hosts, keep this place very well maintained and sparkling clean. The key deer are everywhere and we saw them almost every night in the back and the front yard. This was the perfect place for our group to relax or if we wanted to go to key west that was only a 45 min (beautiful) drive. Free wifi let us map out places to go and things to do (fury ultimate adventure in Key West was fun). The grocery store was close to the house so we cooked in the kitchen a few times. Little geckos and frogs were around the porch and docks which we enjoyed watching as we slipped into the canal with the canoe and paddled towards the ocean. Bahia Honda beach which was only a few minutes away, was beautiful. Overall a great value, worth more than we paid. Big Pine Key was a perfect jumping off point for exploring the lower and middle keys. Perfect hub and great vacation.
