Wonderful two month stay! What a view! Sunrises and sunsets. The beach is mostly for locals and surfers, you won't find many tourists here. Further north the road leads to more gorgeous, quiet beaches, and a trail leading to the northwest tip of Oahu. A car is pretty much necessary. The condo is very comfortable, with the ocean and beach view right in front of the balcony. Very nice staff and residents. Shopping is easy a few miles south. Also close to Ko Olina, a beautiful resort area with four lagoons and a luau. Thanks to the owner for sharing this amazing place.

We loved staying here. We relaxed on our Lani and watched the surfers, whales, and sunsets. The room had everything we needed. Comfortable bed, kitchen was fully stocked and they included extras for the beach. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean, quiet, and relaxing get away.

We spent 30 glorious days at Makaha Shores in Heather and Pau’s condo unit. Where to begin….the check-in process was seamless and Heathers unit provides absolutely everything you need for your stay. We had booked with Heather a couple of times previous but with Covid it just didn’t work out. We’re so thankful it did this time!
We arrived to a clean and welcoming unit with breath taking views of the ocean, sunrise and sunsets.
Upon opening my eyes in the morning without even lifting my head off of the pillow you could see the surfers and if my eyes happened to open early enough you could also catch the beautiful hues of the sunrise.
I had no need to contact Heather while there as everything was quite perfect, but she was great with informing us of things going on around the building that may affect us. The grounds of the building are very clean and well maintained and the maintenance and management staff were very friendly.

Amazing views and a perfect place for a long getaway
Stayed in heathers place for two months. The views from the studio were stunning. The place had everything you would need for a long stay. Not too far away from grocery stores or other restaurants, but you definitely need a car to get around. Great communication from Heather especially when I had an issue with the internet. Would recommend staying here!!!

An Amazing Beachfront Oasis!
This amazing rental provided a short-term option for my Aunty and Uncle who moved home to Hawaii. They loved watching the surfers each morning and throughout the day along with snorkel tour groups just sitting on their balcony. The owners were easy to reach with questions and provided quick replies as well. We will DEFINITELY recommend this lovely Makaha unit to friends and family. Many mahalos again!

"Get Out" - Hawaii
There were some unusual things happening during my stay. Someone was going in and out of the condo when I wasn't there. For example, a personal item of mine was taken from the condo. Not something expensive like my laptop that was sitting on the counter, but my beach goggles. Weird, right? Also, there were things being left there when I wasn't there. For example, someone's dirty socks were put in the drawer with my clean clothes. And, on one occasion when I was gone all day, upon my return, there was something in the toilet that I didn't leave there. Creepy. To me this was someone sending a clear message that I was not welcome. I am an African-American woman and I felt violated. Even though the owner stated nothing had ever happened like this before, I can't help to think that perhaps it was racially motivated. The owner was gracious and offered to change the locks, but I decided to leave instead. She did refund me for the days I didn't use.
On the other hand, the property grounds were amazing! Clean and well maintained. The condo was pristine - beautifully decorated, well stocked with necessities plus chair, umbrellas, etc. for the beach. The location was about an hour from Honolulu, but it sits right on the water so you get to hear and see the ocean waves 24/7. Beautiful!

Beautiful place
I almost don’t want to write this review because this feels like a hidden gem! We spent 1 month in June 2021 in the unit. The unit has more than we needed, and a breathtaking view of the ocean. We had great nights of sleep listening to the waves and never felt hot even though it was summer with no AC. We loved sleeping with only the screen closed with the nice breeze coming in from the ocean. The full. Time residents there were very receptive of the visitors as long as you are respectful to their land which was nice to see following previous reviews. We loved staying in a local beach and away from the touristy activities in Waikiki. One piece of advice is you will definitely need a rental car here. We messed up our car rental and prices were crazy, there is a bus stop right outside on a good schedule but it takes a long time to get anywhere on the bus and you generally can’t get an Uber or Lyft there, lucky we got our situation fixed after a little while. As for the owners, Heather was always great to work with and super fast communication. We loved staying in beautiful Makaha.

Exceptional Stay
My husband and I had a great time at this property for a month. Location was great and we were very comfortable for the duration of our stay. The condo had everything we could have ever needed and more! Amazing communication from the time of booking through check out, and we had no issues at all! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in Makaha, and we hope to come back again soon!

The condo was very nice with a renovated kitchen and bathroom. The views are spectacular, right on the surf break. I had the best vacation and I was very sad to leave. The condo complex is very well maintained. I give this studio a 10!

Makaha Shores
Excellent ocean front condo. Heard and saw crashing waves all day long, also watched up to 50 surfers catching the waves. Very entertaining. Was a small studio, but was very well eguipped. The beach was excellent. It was on the upper west end of the island, so a rental vehicle is required. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

5 days on Makaha Beach
First experience using VRBO and it was perfect! My wife and I(mid thirties, Canadians) stayed for 5 nights. Heather’s pad was as advertised(on one of the best beaches, best view, very clean and furnishesd it wonderfully) and we really enjoyed the location, now this location won’t be for everyone(only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not 5), as there not a lot of shopping nor is it high end, instead it’s authentic and gives a real local experience of Hawaii(which is a challenge to find in Oahu), as I said, it’s mostly locals, so you and your rental car will stand out. But this is my idea of a travel experience, getting away from generic commercialism, away from traffic and crowds, and immersed in a culture and beach lifestyle that’s unique. Now, after seeing the entire island, we really appreciated the lack of traffic and laid back vibe, and the locals know that and don’t want to to change like the rest of the island, as this is one of the few places that’s truly there’s, so they can come off a little intimidating or not very welcoming , however it’s just a face, and it’s kind of funny once you see though it, as there so nice that they need their neck tattoos to make them look tougher lol, if you greet them with a smile, don’t act entitled to there land and respect it, they will gladly share it with you and open up to you. Also we found lots of things to do in the area, you can surf, swim with turtles(u will see dive boats in the ocean that are within swimming distance from the place at the turtle cleaning station), play golf(Makaha golf club is the best value for golf on the island), hike to the cold pool waterfall, or just drink beers on the beach or balcony. basically if your a laid back, want a great view and and a clean place with lots of charm, stay here.

Gorgeous stay! Amazing location! Stunning beach! Studio has everything you need for comfort and your stay. Amenities are close enough. We wanted to be off the beaten path with a real chance to recharge. Great pool, kind people at the complex. We will be back!

Surf side stay
The apartment is facing west directly overlooking the surf. With the lanai door open the breaking waves are pretty much all you hear. They are doing spalling repair on the garage, a problem if you are home mid-day and also upsetting the parking situation somewhat. We planned beach time next door or around the island and so avoided it. The interior is clean and nicely remodeled, very pleasant use of space. The resident manager and grounds keeper and everyone was very warm and friendly, as well as Heather, the owner, which made it easy to feel welcomed. There is no beach like Makaha, so beautiful. I was happy to go “local” there if only for a short time.

Excellent vacation spot
This condo is immaculately decorated and fully stocked with everything you could need. The balcony overlooking the water is an excellent place to sit and watch the surfers. Heather was super helpful and gave clear directions on everything. Our only minor concern was privacy/security as the main door has tabs you can open (creates a great cross breeze) but then people in the hall could see in if they tried (only a screen). Never was an actual problem, just felt a little less private. Had great wifi, and lots of tv choices as well!
Overall an amazing space, we would stay here again.

312 is a lovely unit. Location couldn't be better and Makaha Shores is the best overall.
This was my second stay in Makaha and I will be back in 2020.
My only complaint has nothing to do with this unit, but has to do with the noisy maintenance work being done in the parking lot, next to the pool! Very trying!
My host, Heather, was very responsive and checked in regularly to see how things were.

Very nice condo, but very remote.
I am torn about writing this review. The condo itself is very nice, it has everything you need, it is clean and comfortable, and the view is gorgeous. The kitchen and bathroom vanity appear to be recently updated (the shower could use a loving hand, though, especially the shower head which is very low).
However, there is really nothing to do in the area, only a single decent restaurant, no night life, no shops. The beach looks nice, but while we were here, the waves were too rough to really enjoy swimming. We had hoped to be able to snorkel here, or rent surf/sup boards nearby, but the nearest shop is not within walking distance to the beach (and we didn't have a car with a roof rack), and we were warned that the locals aren't friendly to visitors attempting to surf in the area.
So If all you want to do is sit on the beach with a picnic all day, and you're happy to cook all your own meals, then it's great. Otherwise you'll find yourself driving a lot. It's at least an hour to any activity, as the roads are small and slow-going and you almost always have to go half an hour south first.
Also, I got the impression that the condo is not supposed to be used as a vacation rental, as we were told to say that we were "house guests" in case of questions when we signed in; this made me very uncomfortable.

This property was amazing. The unit was clean and well appointed, the pool was really nice, you are right on the beach which wasn’t crowded at all. The views from the lanai! Sunrises in the morning and sunsets in the evening! Watching the surfers everyday and checking out the stars at night. Surf was definitely up but had a raft so could enjoy floating on the water. Great location for boogie boards. Owner was very responsive, prior to arrival and upon arrival. Great property.

Amazing place to stay!
My husband and I love staying at this rental. It was very clean and organized. The bed was comfortable and the temperature wasn't hot due to the breeze from the ocean. The beach was never packed, which we loved. The scenery was very beautiful and we just could not get enough. Heather was very helpful and responded to all of our questions and concerns. We are looking forward to staying here again someday!

Wonderful little hideaway!
Believe all the reviews - this place oozes local charm, and has absolutely wonderful views! The beaches are nice and clean, and the waves provided better surfing (for the locals, not me) than the Pipeline! We enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Definitely would return again!

Perfect Location
Having the ocean right out your balcony can't be matched. Makaha is far enough away from the city lights to see the stars like you've never seen before.
Yet it's close enough to go into town easily. It's 5 minutes from the best hole in the wall seafood joint called Aloha Poke. The Wasabi salmon is to die for!

Believe the reviews, it's really a five-star condo!
Very nice property. Just like the pictures. The ocean view is just great! We spent a lot of time on the lanai. The beach is also very nice, with nice spots to swim and lots of fish a few feet from the shore. There are turtles if you are willing to swim a little further. There is a shower and a water hose on the property to rinse off the sand.
One thing to note, the parking space is small and somewhat difficult to access (tight turns) if you have a large vehicle. We wanted a small SUV but ended up with a Nissan Pathfinder, and I would say it's pretty much the largest vehicle you can fit there. Height clearance is 6' I believe. Get a mid-size sedan or a small SUV and it will be easy.
To sum up, don't hesitate, it's a great condo. We would definitely stay there again!

Great ocean front condo!
This was our first Vrbo experience and I must say a very satisfying one! Heather and Pua’s Condo directly fronts the beach and offers great sunsets and a wonderful view to wake up to! Directly adjacent to Mākaha Beach so you have a short jaunt to find some sand and waves. Condo is well stocked with necessary items for a comfortable stay and Heather checked in with us to make sure everything was up to par during our trip. Ko Olina lagoons are a short drive away if you want a change of view. Overall a great first vrbo experience for Amy and I! Thanks Heather and Pua for allowing us to stay at your “beachouse”

Once you've arrived, you do not want to leave! The building is literally on the beach and you only need a few steps to get there. The water is clear and the beach is clean.
The hosts are fantastic and attentive! The apartment is very nice, perfect for a couple. It has been recently renovated and offers all necessary amenities and more (fully equipped kitchen, tv, wifi). We feel the affection in every detail. It also has a balcony overlooking the beach, which is perfect for breakfast or dinner. When you sit there, it seems that life can not improve.
We were a bit worried about the heat as there is no AC but the ocean breeze and the fan make the room comfortable.
The building also has a very nice pool if you like to swim after sunset, for example.
I will come back if I can and recommend the choice of this location

Just returned from 10 days in this studio unit. Very clean, quiet and well stocked. So wonderful to wake-up and sip coffee on the lanai! You seriously cannot get a better view!! If you want to stay away from Waikiki, this is it. We did our shopping in Kapolei ( Walmart, Safeway, Target ). We also drove to Ko Olina ( 30 min ) to enjoy swimming in the lagoons ( lagoon #4 has most parking) and Longboards for lunch.....numerous times :) We always made sure we were home by 8:30pm to get a quick swim in the pool to cool off. Nobody was ever in the pool. Nice to have a parking spot and laundry room. Security and everyone we met were very friendly. Heather checked in with us to make sure everything was going ok and refunded our deposit immediately. Mahalo for a wonderful vacation!!
***side note-----we rented a Toyota Corolla from Lucky Owl, they picked us up and dropped us off at airport. $295.00 flat rate (10 day) We did a lot of driving checking out every inch of this island.

Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful view. Ocean on one side, hills on the other. This property was exceptionally clean, well maintained and very comfortable. Locals very friendly. We snorkelled with turtles right off the beach. A great location if you are looking for a home base away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. No A/C was not an issue. Ceiling fan and breezes in from the Pacific kept the temperature comfortable day and night. Renting a car is a must. There is so much to see and do here, it's nice to have the flexibility of touring around yourselves . Was nice to have down days lounging on the beach too! Owners are readily available if you have questions . Highly recommend this property.
