A propos de ce maisonrental
≪10 min to Gion≫ Relaxing bathroom, 3 sleeps townhouse in Kiyomizu

We stayed at the Momiji-an house for 3 nights and had a great time. The house itself is spacious and well looked after. The neigborhood is fantastic, a really great way to get the "traditional" Kyoto experience. I would happily recommend this to others.

We were looking for an historical place to spend the night during our stay in Kyoto and this place is very well situated, yes away frlm the crowd so you are not bothered by noises. Because this is a historical house, it is not sound proof bug this is part of the experience and lime I said, it's a very quiet street so outdoor noises where not an issue at all. Neighbors were very quiet. We realized that ghere qas someone only when we heard someone coughing :). It's 2 mn walk away from the historical streets that are pedestrian. Very convenient. There's no block out curtains in the tatami room (where you sleep) but we had sleeping masks and this wasn't an issue for us.
The owner was very responsive and always eager to help. I definitely recommend this place.

My husband and I had a great time in Kyoto! This was our first visit & most definitely not our last.
From the minute we booked this house to stay, we knew we would have a nice stay. Everyone’s correspondence thru the app were so prompt & incredibly helpful! We had the pleasure of meeting Jun & Jackie. Jun, thank you for being so lovely & warm. You welcomed us with a beautiful bouquet of flowers for our anniversary.
The house was perfect for us. Very clean, spacious, loved the bathroom (still reminiscing, sighs & smiles) I was super happy about the washer & dryer. It’s the best 2-1machine we have ever used! Ooh and another great feature, especially if you will stay here in the cold season, the floors are heated!!!! Need I say more?! Lol ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS HOUSE
Also, Jun gave us many suggestions for food & to do! Arigatōu gozaimasu 🙏🏽 !! We were able to walk to Gion, Geisha district, Zen temple and many others. The food around town is outstanding! Everyone in the markets & boutique stores were inviting & friendly.
We will be back & look forward to staying here again! OX

We loved our stay at Momiji-an. It is a beautifully renovated traditional Japanese house in a historic part of Kyoto, near to the Higashiyama heritage trail and close to Gion. The bedroom is exquisite and the bathroom is fabulous. Mariko was a wonderful extra mile host, picking us up and dropping us off at the station, as well as booking restaurants and organising access to the Moss Temple. We look forward to staying in this very charming place again, as soon as possible!

A great place to stay in beautiful Kyoto!
We had a great time in this Kyoto apartment. Its location is superb, only a two minute walk west to Higashi Oji Dori street where there are lots of buses and taxis. There is a Fresco grocery store about 5 minutes walk north on this street, and lots of restaurants too. The Matsubara-dori tourist street which leads to more restaurants and the Kiyomizu-dera temple is only a two minute walk to the north. The apartment is perfectly located as a base to explore the southern Higashiyama temple district, and is a 30 minute walk from central/downtown Kyoto. It is also handy for the Gion teahouse/geisha district. The area is quiet and we slept well every night. It was great to come back here to recharge after a long day of walking in Kyoto.
The apartment itself is a little small by western standards, but this is pretty typical for Japan. It is set back from the street and is quite secluded. The kitchen is small but very functional, there is a small sink and one-ring induction cooking ring. The microwave also functions as a small oven, which is very useful. There is a small fridge which is perfectly fine.
The bathroom is excellent, there is a heated floor with big bath and a shower, and lots of natural light; it is screened very well from the outside. There is a washing machine/dryer too which is very useful.
The bedroom is upstairs, and it is a lovely traditional Japanese bedroom, and there is lots of light in the morning. The floor is tatami mats and the beds are futons with single quilts.
The living room is a good size, it has a heated floor and lots of storage space, with a small dining table and 4 chairs. The sofa is comfortable. There is a ‘vertical garden’ outside the window. The room is a little dark in the daytime, but there is good artificial lighting.
A really unique feature of this place is that our hosts were so very kind. They picked us up from Kyoto station, checked on us to make sure we were doing OK, and then picked us up again and took us back to the station. This is a great service, it was very much appreciated!
In summary, we stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this to others, and would stay here again. Thanks to Yumi and Mariko for taking care of us!

Lovely machiya near Kiyomizudera
Clean, comfortable and spacious. Love the bathroom! Appreciate being able to stay in a traditional styled home right in old Kyoto, so near Kiyomizudera and the other amazing spots. Other plus about location is supermarket within walking distance and great coffee (% Arabica) just 1 street away. Mariko was very welcoming and very helpful!

Live the traditional Japanese life in style
This little jewel of a place was a delight from the bamboo lined path entrance to the comfortable futon bedroom, adorned traditionally with fresh flowers and Japanese scroll.
The cosy kitchen and living area were well equipped , even sporting a coffee machine and coffee pods, (most welcome)and the bathroom complete with bath, set in a garden but safe from the weather was especially nice .
Mario was very welcoming and available for all queries and topped off with being in the perfect location for good food, the old quarter of Gion and the temples nearby as well as a very handy bus stop made our stay here a unique and enjoyable experience.

The 3 of us stayed at the Momiji-an machiya for 4 nights. The unit is in a quiet residential area with easy access to all the sights of Kyoto. It has been recently renovated and has all modern amenities. It is also within walking distance to a supermarket where we bought good sashimi and wagyu beef. All queries were quickly addressed and Mariko was most helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much and we highly recommend Momiji-an.

We stayed 4 nights at Momiji-an during Sakura flower season in Kyoto. In earlier years we have stayed in other areas of Kyoto but this one was just perfect for us: close to Kiyomizudera and Kodaiji temples as well as to Gion; shops, restaurants, groceries, everything within walking distance. The house itself is cozy, clean and just the perfect place to come "home" after sightseeing tours. It is well equipped and there was nothing we would have missed. The contact with Mariko, even before our arrival, was very friendly and helpful. We had a warm welcome from one of her assistants who showed us everything when we arrived at Momiji-an. It was a perfect stay and we can recommend it!

Momiji-an in Kiyomizu Area
We stayed at Momiji-an for a week during the red maple leaf season. The traditional Japanese house was at great location, closed to everything, Kiyomizu, Kodaiji, Gion, grocery, shops, food, bus stops and bike rentals. Our host Roxana was very nice and helpful giving us all information we needed. The house was very clean, cozy with little kitchen and washer/dryer which was very helpful when we got tired of eating out and had fresh clean clothes daily. The shower/bath with little garden setting was clean, nice and private. We would definitely stay here when we come back to visit Kyoto again.
However, beware of the low door ways if you are tall. My husband is 6'2" and he had bumped his head quite a few times.

Top-notch ryokan-like home in Gion
i stayed at momiji-an for four days in this ryokan-like house. It absolutely blew me away. For those of you who may or may not know, if you plan on visiting Kyoto, Gion is the place to be and stay. It's the geisha district and everything you have ever dreamed of or imagined about traditional japan and this house fits the mood and scene. Location is absolutely perfect because its in the geisha district but away from the noise and the city yet one block away and you already got buses that will connect you to every attraction in Kyoto. Its surrounded by places to eat, 24hr market, a bike rental place...you name it. Its literally 5 minutes walking distance from kyomizudera which is one the most visited and important must-see temples in kyoto. As for the house, its a 2 story house, impecable, it looks as if it was recently renovated because it all looks brand new. Bathroom is perfect, typical japanese toilet wit all the electronic features you will find in japan. The shower is a dream wit the little japanese/zen garden, a real delight. Its got a kitchen you can use to make breakfast. Its not meant for heavy cooking but anything along the lines like rice or pasta you can make. Its got a mini fridge. Its got a wash and dry machine which comes in handy when you have been out on the road. A nesspreso machine which i did not use cause u dont drink coffee but it comes fully stocked so im sure a lot of people will love that. Beautiful living room with a little zen-like garden for a view. Iron. Lots of places to store lugagge. The room upstairs is beautiful with the tatami's on the floor. Everything you hope for from a ryokan which will charge you a fortune, you will get at momiji-an for a lesser price, bigger space, more comfort, location could not be better and the facilities are top notch. This was a real surprise and the place looks exactly as it looks on the pics. Roxana, the hostess, was extremely warm, helpful at all times and flexible with checkin and checkout times. I highly recommend this place above any other. If you are tired of hotels and you wanna feel at home, do not hesitate about booking momiji-an. I will def come back. This was my second time in japan.
Thank you Roxana!

Authentic experience with home away from home feel
My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in this lovely comfortable home. It was our first visit to Japan and took a chance and were very, very pleased. The location is perfect - close to everything (we walked everywhere) - groceries, temples, restaurants, etc. We didn't cook much in the house but it had all the basics one would need, the shower/tub was amazing, rooms were cosy and comfortable, washer/dryer makes for light packing. Warning - if you are tall be prepared to hit your head - my husband is 6'3 and forgot to duck, I got a good laugh out of it but you will have to slouch in the door ways. Roxana was super helpful, greeted us and provided all kinds of information. We can't wait to go again. Would highly recommend!

Inviting, comfortable, delightful home away from home
We were three women traveling to Kyoto for our second visit within the past year. Last year we stayed in one of the other units in this Machiya Shofu-an and we were excited to come back to this welcoming place. Geographically this is located in the best area in Kyoto, so close to Kiyomizu, Gion, Pontocho, Sanjusangendo, Kodai-ji etc. Good access to groceries, restaurants and anything else you may need for your stay. Some lovely shops in the neighbourhood, crafts, pottery and antiques. You will find lots of helpful information in the unit for things to visit. I hope to go back again and stay in this well equipped Machiya! Loved it.

A perfect stay!
We had an excellent time at the property. We spent 8 nights and we really felt at home.
The house is very cozy and comfortable. We were 4 adults and 2 kids, and we got along great.
The kitchen is tiny but very useful, we cooked every night!! It has all you need, and there is also a 24 hour supermarket 2 blocks away.
The bathroom has the best shower I've ever been in! It is just perfect!
There is a washer and drying machine which was perfect for us. We did laundry a few times and it worked very well.
Roxana was super kind and helpful. We found the house very easy when we arrived, and she was also waiting and welcoming us…
The neighbourhood is just perfect too. Very easy access to all places.
I only have good words for this review!!!
Thabks Roxana for everything! We will wait you in Buenos AIres!

Perfect
This place was fantastic! Great location, easy to walk to temples and public transportation. There were instructions for everything from the remote control to the washing machine. Having the Nespresso machine was also wonderful, and made the stay so homey and comfortable. Roxana was so accommodating - allowing us to drop our bags earlier than check-in so we could go explore. After staying in hotels for the week prior, it was such a great space to relax and have as home base.

Boston family of 4
Staying at Momiji-an made our time in Kyoto even more special. The location is perfect - walking distance to temples, noodle shops, grocery store and bus line. The house was clean and ready for us on arrival. The manager, Roxanna, clearly explained how things worked, provided sightseeing and neighborhood tips. She was incredibly warm and helpful. The beautiful Japanese bath was a highlight of the house. We loved the hot soak after a day of walking. The futons were warm and comfy. The kitchen and living area are a bit tight. It is possible to cook breakfast and make tea, but attempting to cook an evening meal would be ambitious in this small space. The house works well for a family of 4, but I can't imagine it sleeping 5 very comfortably. (We had three sleep in the upstairs bedroom and one on the floor in the living room.) On a practical level, the laundry was great: washer/dryer in one machine that did both. If you want to feel independent and break out of staying in hotels, this is a great choice for Kyoto. The fully stocked Nespresso coffee maker was an added bonus!

Perfection in Kyoto
Can't say enough good things about this wonderful home... had everything we needed, including a Nespresso machine, and a wonderful floorplan, and great service from the moment we reserved the place until the moment we checked out. Location could not be more perfect. Seriously, just stop looking, and book this wonderful house! They have three houses together right here, one smaller, one larger, all wonderful, but I think this was my favorite, especially for two travelers. Four people could probably stay here, but for me it'd be a little tight, but then again I like lots and lots of space when I travel.

Really great stay
We stayed in this really cute property just last week for two nights. We loved this little home, especially the bathing area and the fact that it had a washing machine. It's an easy walk to the grocery store, many famous temples and wonderful shops. It's a quiet street - off the main drag, close to the bus that goes to the city center. (Or you can walk about 15 minutes). We made ALOT of coffee (loved that machine), watched some great Sumo wrestling on the TV and slept really well on our futons. Be aware that the living room/dining room is a small room. We didn't mind, since the kids spent most of their hangout time upstairs and the adults downstairs. Also, upstairs, was really light in the AM, which worked out for us b/c of the jet lag but bring an eye mask if you need a dark room to sleep in. Roxana, the manager was great and super flexible about our arrival and departure times. We would def. stay again. Kyoto was one of our favorite cities that we saw in Japan - and it was really wonderful to be able to be able to feel at home there.
