Just don’t! Unit so visibly dirty I had to clean upon arrival (10 hr+). Shower/sink won’t drain. I bought Drano- then removed huge clumps of other people’s hair from drains! 🤮Still not draining well -backs up ankle high. Also: large chunks of other people’s food stuck to inside of microwave, dirt/debris/hair/hairclip/a receipt from JULY/dead bugs/black dirt, etc. in the corners of the rooms; a four YEAR old newspaper & trash under the couch.
First three days stuff started breaking. Lamps, fan; I finally emailed owner after the microwave broke. He called & was deceitful/condescending, rather than helpful/apologetic. I was tasked with buying a new microwave (for under $100) & bringing it there & then he was supposed to reimburse me. He said he was going on vacation & NEVER checked in with me again. All this on MY vacation. Upon checkout, three weeks after providing receipts, I still had to ask where my reimbursement is (twice). I am STILL WAITING, as he said he was just now going to write a paper check & mail it to my home in CA. I asked for Zelle or cash, as I am still in HI. I also sent receipt for @$9 for the DRANO I had to buy & asked for repayment. And he REFUSED! This guy is a piece of work. I had sent pics, too. This is the dirtiest unit and the worst “host” I have ever dealt with. He denied the dirt/rust/mold/broken blind/torn curtains/dirty spotted area rugs/red 🤮spotted towels/blackened bathtub/menstrual stained mattress cover/screens & windows so dirty they blocked the view/food splattered cabinets & appliances/burnt up lamp/broken shade, etc. Even had a used coffee pod in the Keurig.
It had a nice view if you were sitting out on the lanai. Even after I cleaned the backsplashes and mirrors (sticky splotches everywhere) and blackened switches, the lanai was still the only part that was ok.
In summary, I would have to say that it was nasty even after I cleaned it & I had a bad feeling because of the way this host spoke to me. Telling me that nobody else has ever complained about this filth, when I already knew that everyone who’s ever rented it has complained to long-term tenants & that it’s a joke around there. I knew that before I spoke to the host, so I knew he was gaslighting & lying. His tone was straight out of the smart aleck handbook. Very disrespectful. He even asked me to keep the broken fan & microwave so he could make sure I wasn’t lying (I guess?). VRBO, what good is using you if you can’t fix this kind of stuff?

This was our first trip to Oahu. We wanted to stay for at least 30 days. We found this place that is literally on the beach! It a bit older of a building, but location, location, location! Makaha Beach is good for boogie boarding, snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and just chilling on the beach. We had the option of the swimming pool when we didn’t feel like going to the beach. Ko Olina lagoons are down the road if you want calmer waters for young children. Tamara Supermarket is only 10mins away. Longs Drugs every few miles. The condo has lots of beach equipment to use. Snorkeling, inflatables, boogie boards, umbrellas, water shoes…etc
Rental car is a must! You have an assigned parking spot in the parking garage.
Coming from the SF Bay Area, I was used to driving short distance and taking hours. We drove quite a bit to the North Shore and it was only an hour. Mostly everything is within an hour drive depending on traffic conditions.
The worst thing about the condo was when we had to leave! We appreciate Bob and Marion letting us rent their condo. I know Oahu pretty well now.

Bob and Marion have everything you would need in the suite. The bed was very comfortable and the view was amazing. Watching whales, dolphins, seals and turtles on the beach. The month flew by. We look forward to returning soon. Thanks so much Tammy and Rob

Beautiful setting on sunny, quiet side of Oahu! This fifth floor corner unit has exquisite views of Makaha Beach Park and a breathtaking daily glimpse of experienced surfers and magnificent sea life (turtles, monk seals, whales). The downside: the building is almost sixty years old (built in 1967) and prone to breaks and malfunctions. We were without hot water for half of our six-week stay. For one week we felt we were living in a construction zone, since first the breaker box then the hot water heater had to be replaced. But meticulous groundskeeper Luke maintained a gorgeous garden and pristine pool and building manager Natasha was extra friendly and always helpful!

A lovely getaway
My wife and I spent a month here and we have a wonderful stay. The view is great, the place is quiet, and we have met a couple of wonderful neighbours. We are also lucky to have come across The Buffalo Big Board Surfing Classic, and we actually sit on the lanai and watch the exciting contest!

We enjoyed the surfing and water sport activities along with whale watching from our 5th floor lanai. Would recommend a vehicle to travel to any attractions and dining ..The condo building was older but well maintained and steps to a beautiful beach with light local and tourist activity

When we visit the islands we specifically look for a condo;
- close to the water and hear the crashing of the ocean waves
- high enough elevation to watch whales and marine life. (Added safety factor in case of tsunami.)
- able to watch the sunset right at the lanai as a nightly ritual
- quiet and relaxed and a taste of local atmosphere.
This particular condo offered more in these criterias.
- Condo faces both ocean and Makaha beach (angled design), able to watch both sunrise and sunset.
- Location is such that sunbathing monk seals and green turtles are common sight. Every day scan the beach for a dark object usually a turtle or a seal sunbathing. Turning your head toward the open waters, whales or pods of spinner dolphins might be passing by. A sea turtle attached with a transmitter on its back shows up among the surfers now and again. One time a filming crew stopped their take for a closer look at the turtle with a yellow box on its back.
- Makaha beach seem to be a favourite surfer's play ground. All day entertainment for both surfers and watchers. Weekend surfing competition was a spectacular event to see in skill and agility, specially when perched front and centre stage which happens to be lanai of your condo. What a treat!
The condo probably built in the late 60s or 70s, solid cement construction, noise is not an issue. Age of condo is starting to show it's age. Someone had the great idea to build in this ideal location.

A great stay on Makaha beach!
My wife and I stayed for 2 weeks in March, 2019. The place was great, with the lanai being the best, as other reviewers have stated. Lots of surfers and boogie boarders every day to watch. There was construction in the parking lot while we were there, so some problems with parking, but that wasn't the owner's fault. With any older building there are always a few small points that need maintenance, but having notified the owner, I'm sure they will be taken care of (toilet, etc). For the price, this is a great deal.

My husband and I just spent a wonderful and relaxing holiday at Makaha Shores. The view grabbed our attention as soon as we walked in .... simply breathtaking ... right on the ocean. Every day we enjoyed watching the amazing surfers as well as whales in the distance.
The condo is perfect for two people and had everything we needed and wanted, including a fully equipped kitchen, very comfortable bed and lots of beach gear. My husband, being a golf enthusiast would have appreciated the golf channel on the T.V.
We spent so much time though on the large lanai and enjoying the incredible view. The Makaha Beach Park is right beside this property and again, a beautiful beach where we spent many sunny days.
The local area of Makaha along the Wainaie coast is very Hawaiian, very different from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, and we thoroughly enjoyed this relaxing holiday!!

Our stay here was perfect. The condo was wonderfully appointed with everything we needed to enjoy days at the beach and cook dinners to enjoy on the lanai. We kept the doors open at night and were lulled to sleep by the crashing waves. Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful area! Our check in went very smoothly. We found the place very easily. It's the best beach ever. We sat and watched the surfers for literally hours. It was very entertaining. They make it look so easy. This condo was very well stocked with everything you might need. Even a surf board and wet suit. Boogie board and beach chairs. The pool is nice with chairs to sit on and lounge on. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would rent a vehicle so your able to get to restaurants. We got food from Costco and ate at our place mostly. Costco is about 20 mins drive away. And there are grocery stores about 10 mins away driving. This condo is not a luxury hotel but it is comfortable and the view is spectacular. We would go back.

West coast gem
A cosy well-laid-out and functionally equipped condo with what must be one of the best views on the island, overlooking the lovely Makaha surf beach and its dawn-to-dusk entertaining scenes. Lovely sunsets from the lanai; you basically get the same or better view than the dinner cruise boats, and with a pair of binoculars you can see whales or spinner dolphins offshore from time to time. It is a fair drive up the West side of the island to this area, and with the heavy commuter traffic at certain times of day maybe not the best base of operations if your primary objective is to get to all the tourist sites, including Honolulu area and the East side. However, if you are more interested in natural surroundings, nice uncrowded beaches, hiking opportunities, diving, or a more laid-back small - town vibe with friendly locals, it's hard to imagine a better place to do it. We ran into a Guide on Diamond Head one day and when a member of our party mentioned where we were staying, he said "Best kept secret on Oahu". Building has good security, parking and pretty good maintenance for its age, and the owners are responsive. Had a very enjoyable stay and wish we were back there now as we sit staring at the snow ....

I'm not sure I can add anything new in my review. I absolutely agree with the other comments. We spent 2 fabulous weeks in this condo and enjoyed every minute. Yes it is a compact condo but it is very well appointed and the available space well utilized.
The view is breathtaking! Waking up in the morning, just as the sun is beginning to lighten the sky you open you eyes and gaze out on the ocean from your comfortable bed as the first surfers start to paddle out to catch a wave.
Breakfast on the lanai was such a treat...kona coffee, fresh pineapple and papayas while you spot whales, dolphins and even a turtle! The beach was only a few yards away and it was very busy with local surfers. The beach was fantastic for walking and of course the condo had everything you could need for a day at the beach!
Thank you for sharing you little corner of paradise with us!

Holiday Oasis
We spent 14 days in this well situated and comfortable condo overlooking the ocean and Makaha Beach. The condo itself provided all of the amenities and comforts we needed. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen and the quality bedding and towels. The complex itself is also very clean and quiet, well taken care of by the Manager Vern. The balcony was the highlight of the apartment, affording a spectacular view at all hours of the day. We had the best seats for the fireworks New Year's Eve. My favourite part of staying in this condo was the ability to walk along some of the most beautiful and pristine beaches in the world.

Perfect location on the west coast's best beach!
We could quite happily have sat on this balcony for the rest of our days!
A trip to Makaha is not a 5 star tourist trap. It is an opportunity to stop, relax and enjoy a truly beautiful spot.
Our family of 4 surfed, snorkled, and soaked up the winter sun. Seeing turtles, whales and dolphins was a daily event that Waikiki tourists paid $200 each to hop on a boat and cruise to our beach to experience.
A hire car is highly recommended as there are no restaurants or cafes in walking distance, and we also made use of the full kitchen.
Using this great condo as our base, we were easily able to explore every corner of Oahu. The North Shore, Polynesian Cultural Centre and Kuoloa Ranch are all fantastic day trips and getting around the island is really simple. You are pretty much an hour and a half from anywhere.
Even though we visited in December, the wet season, Makaha always had exceptional weather and we were rained on every time we headed inland.
The onsite management, Vern and Al, are fantastic. They gave us tips on where to visit as well as information on local surf conditions and places to eat. Respect for the locals goes a long way here.
The condo has everything you need and is certainly the best in the block. We crammed in 2 adults and our 2 boys, 14 and 10, and had a ball. The kitchen is fully equipped, the space is comfortable and well furnished and the balcony exceptional. There is even snorkelling gear and body boards for your use.
We can't recommend this condo highly enough. If you want a chilled, truly local experience without the hustle of a tourist hub, you will love this condo.

Fantastic view!!
we stayed there for 7 fantastic days. The view is fantastic, the ocean at your feet! Wow!! The condo is big and very well equipped with everything you need for your stay. Very clean too. Robert is fast to answer and very nice too. He even answered us back in French. That was so sweet.the beaches in the area are beautiful. It is so fun to watch surfers from the lanai at the end of the after exploring the island. When driving avoid rush hour time but there is still a lot of traffic all over Oahu. Be patient and enjoy the scenery. We would definitely go back there.

Best view over Makaha beach
It was really nice to stay here! You have a breathtaking view and have the feeling that you can just jump into the ocean! The combo is nice and cosy. The kitchen is well-furnished, bath is okay and everthing else nice. It's perfect for two. The owner hepled us with everything we aked for! Thank you!

Awesome Beachfront Condo
We chose this place because we do not like staying in more touristy areas when we are on vacation. The condo faces the beach and you are soothed to sleep with the ocean singing. The condo was large enough for my husband to be together or be apart. There was everything that we needed to make our meals and although the dishwasher was broken, we were able to hand wash the dishes. The beach was never crowded there were nearby mom and pop restaurants and caves to explore.

Fantastic Location/Exceptional View
For anyone wanting to experience Oahu outside of the hustle and bustle and touristy Honolulu, this is the place to be. Quiet (except for the waves off your balcony), spacious and well appointed, this condo had everything I needed for my stay. Even frosted beer glasses! Watching the surfers, canoes and paddle boarders off the balcony day and evening added to the total immersion feeling to Hawaii life. The beach was great and never crowded. I never had any trouble getting into Honolulu for work, but if you can avoid coming back at normal rush hour, you would spend less time on the highway. An accident on the two lane highway one day slowed me down considerably. But otherwise the location is great for access to Honolulu, as well as the North Shore. But believe me, when you are up there, you won't want to go anywhere near Honolulu! If you are looking for a more real taste of Hawaii life, I would highly recommend this place. Thanks!

beautiful view
The apartment lays on a unique location, overviewing 180 degrees of the coast. It stays almost on the sea, making the sound of the waves the soundtrack of your vacation. It is very well equipped and makes you feel like at home, because the owner provides more than what you usually can find in a rental home. Unfortunately, the apartment is old and needs improvements, especially in the bathroom which is very old. We found a water leakage in the bath which the owner said they discovered right before our arrival and that would have be fixed right after our departure. The doors too are very old. The elevator was out of order for maintenance, and the works delayed many weeks respect to the original schedule. The results was elevator unusable for a long period. In our week we found technicians working only for few hours. But that is responsibility of property management, not the apartment owner. Last notice, very often previous guests leave foods in the fridge which owners do not remove, probably thinking that would be appreciated by entering guests. We have taken that as a courtesy, but in our opinion the fridge should be better empty and cleaned for entering guests, since not all persons have same tastes.

Our Stay
This was our first time to Oahu and we had a great time! This condo is situated on the 5th floor overlooking the surf beach of Makaha! The views were awesome, we were serenaded by crashing waves and really enjoyed watching the locals taking advantage of the continual waves that crash along this area.
It is among the locals which we found to be very helpful for any questions that we had. It is away from the bustling city of Honalulu and Waikii area which we did not go to.
We have two boys ages 8 & 11 and the surf during our stay was big, we never felt concerned with under tow or wave action, we boogie boarded at several spots!
The accommodations sleep 3 comfortably, but we did squeeze 4 in without and problems.
The condo was well appointed for our needs as we didn't spend much time there, the heated pool was a welcome sight at the end of our day enjoying the island!
We would stay here again without hesitation!

Amazing Views
This is a corner unit which allows an excellent vantage point for viewing the beach & surfers from sunrise to sunset. We loved the location away from the crowds of Wiakiki, however if you are looking for everything walking distance & close, this is not for you. While we found the unit had everything we needed and was very comfortable, if you are looking for a fancy resort, again this is not for you. If you are looking for a place to relax and simply enjoy, you will love it. We loved being with the locals and found them to be indifferent or friendly to us. We would certainly come back and recommend this unit to others.

Exceptional condo, beautiful beach! Doesn't get any better.
Well I am writing my review while I am still on vacation. It's raining today, so thought it would be a prefect time to write about this great rental.
We have stayed on Makaha surfing beach four times before this. We love the area, because it is quiet and the beaches are beautiful. We live a busy life and do not want to go on vacation to be even busier. The condo building is small and everyone in here has been very friendly. Has a nice pool and BBQ area. This condo Is a corner unit, so great view down the beach and all across the ocean. We could just sit on the large lanai all day and watch the whales and surfers. The unit is large and has everything you could possibly need...even an espresso machine.
I will absolutely return to this rental. Bob has been great with answering questions prior to my arrival and has a beautiful place here.
I know a lot of people worry about coming to the local side, but we have never had a bad experience. You respect them, they respect you.
Love, love, love it. Thank you!

THANKSGIVING IN BEAUTIFUL MAKAHA
This Unit was perfect. We had everything we needed in the room and the location of the unit gave a perfect view of beautiful Makaha beach. The people and staff were friendly and helpful. The surf was awesome. We plan on staying in this unit again next year.
