Our extended family had a wonderful time on Bailey Island. The house had plenty of room for all of us even with two rain days. Brett was a pleasure to deal with and was always timely in getting back to us.

Our entire group of seven was delighted with the house and location! We cooked most evenings and loved having dinner every night on the expansive porch with beautiful views. The interior is spacious and comfortable with a very well equipped kitchen. The driveway is a little tricky but definitely manageable with the windows down to hear vehicles approaching when you're pulling out. We would absolutely rent again. Thank you Brett and Family for a lovely week with many happy memories!

What an outstanding host and property. We vacation as a family every year, all over the east coast, and this home rates at the top. The bedrooms each had a bathroom-the kitchen was equipped for a chef-the outdoor areas were so beautiful (including awakening each day to the birds!)-and the home was decorated to make you feel at home. The host has a wonderful home and we’re so welcoming. Thank you!

My family had a great time in this beautiful house. The kitchen was amazingly stocked with everything you could need as a chef. The setup on the deck was perfect for cooking lobsters and having an outdoor dinner. Each bedroom had its own air conditioning which was wonderful for each guest. The kids were so excited about watching the fireworks on the rooftop deck which did not disappoint!! The house is in walking distance to some local restaurants and strolls on the cribstone bridge. Lovely stay on Bailey Island.

Wonderful home with terrific views in a great location! As previous reviewers have noted, the kitchen has everything (and more!) one needs for cooking and entertaining while on vacation. We cooked most nights, including a couple nights of fresh lobster from the cove less than a mile away. Out of the water and I to the pot in less than an hour! Fresh, tasty, delicious!
The deck is wonderful and our dog loved sitting out there and watching nature.
The beds were comfortable, and there are cabinets full of dvds and puzzles and games. On two rainy days, it wasn’t a problem to stay indoors. It was a pleasure to kick back and relax!
The owner, Brett, was very responsive when the WiFi went down one day or when we planned to cook 100 lbs of lobster and asked about an outdoor heating element. He came and set it up right away. Btw, in the cabinet is everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, one needs for preparing and eating lobster.
Brett is also a wealth of k owl edge for local anything. Also, don’t forget to visit his storefront - Main Street Design Co - in nearby Bath. Very special and quality home interior goods.

This house is simply beautiful. All the fun nautical decor and tasteful furnishings were enjoyed by everyone. Everyone had their own space yet, there were many areas to allow a large group to gather. The long outdoor table was full every night for dinner. Close to the beach and scenic hikes. Perfect for our grandchildren to enjoy each other in the large playroom downstairs. Awesome vacation, thank you!

The home was lovely and the location was remote and quiet.
There are some maintenance issues that need to be addressed such as the leaking ceiling and the bushes that block the visibility of the road when leaving the drive.

Loved the house! Plenty of bedrooms and multiple living areas for all ages. Our 4 year old grandson loved the toys and games. The kitchen had everything we could ask for and more. The only downside was the location on the main road onto Bailey Island. We were hesitant to go for walks from there (we did see others doing it) but could easily drive to find hiking areas and beaches. Our family really enjoyed the trip!

Terrific location and wonderful open concept down stairs. Owner is very responsive. Locations is terrrific in terms of proximity to restaurants, Cedar Beach, and walks along the cribstone. Great sunsets from the rooftop patio and deck. Overall a great Bailey Island vacation home.

Just as the description states, this house and views are amazing, as our niece stated, it was A-Maine-zing! Our family is from Bath and had always wanted to be back in the area for the 4th of July and this house was the perfect spot for our party of 7 to re-visit old memories and make fantastic new ones. The house is not very old, has all modern amenities, but has the feel of "old Maine" which is exactly what we were looking for. Thank you Brett and family for sharing your beautiful home on VRBO.

We were celebrating my parent's 70th wedding anniversary. Each bedroom had its own bathroom with luxurious towels and plenty of privacy. Kitchen was magnificently stocked, including wonderful welcome goodies. I appreciated outdoor grill setup for cooking lobsters and clams without having the smell linger in the house. Views from the upper deck were great. We had so much fun on the main floor together that we never really got to use the video system in the basement. I would definitely rent this property again.

8 parents/grandparents and 5 children age 7 and below spent a grand 7 days at the Capt. Lawrence Johnson house. Owned by Capt. Johnson’s grandchildren, this iconic house of a historic fixture of Bailey Island lobstering made a perfect harbor for “cousin chaos” with lots of happy children and plenty of space for many moms and dads. Private space, very quiet, close to the Cribstone Bridge and a short drive to all the local sights. It was ideal for a large family that likes to cook. A perfect movie room for kids. Lots of baths for us all. And a porch view of stunning sunsets that made the stay all the more perfect.

We’ll equipped, clean, comfortable, spacious. Served us well for two adults working remotely while two others and a kid explored, kayaked and played games, watched movies, did puzzles and selected books to read from the very sizable collection

What a great location. A little tricky getting out of driveway but we managed. Loved the space. Every bedroom had its own bathroom which was so nice. Very accessible to lots of things. We could walk to a cute restaurant as well as the Salt Cod Cafe which had amazing baked goods. Short distance to hiking spots as well. Looking forward to going back.

This property is well furnished with everything you need to have a relaxing, enjoyable and fun vacation. The well-appointed kitchen was a wonderful plus for making meals for a large crowd. The only drawback was that the house is positioned on a highly trafficked road, making noise an issue when sitting on the deck. Otherwise, we were extremely pleased with the setting. The island itself has fun activities to do and it isn’t very far from grocery stores and other amenities.

The property is perfect for a large group who like a chef's kitchen. It had all the pots, pans, utensils, plates, silverware, condiments, storage containers, trash bags, soaps, etc. that you could want. We had lobster boils twice, and the outside burners and lobster pots were great, as was the 6 burner gas range. For 9 of us though, one fridge was not enough!
But the house is large, charming and comfortable. Everyone liked having their own bathroom/bedroom combo and the A/C in the bedrooms was great. It really is a must, with heat waves becoming the norm. I don't think it would take much to add a couple of units to the main floor and the basement. They were hot, even with opening windows & running fans at night to pull in cooler air.
Now, for the downsides. The weeds & weed-trees have grown up to where the views are limited. I had to hack away some branches along the staircase up from the driveway to use the safety railing. Being close to the road means road noise. And the cleanliness could have been better. Upon arrival, I found the windows and glass doors on the main floor covered with kids' handprints. There were spiderwebs everywhere; the fridge drawers and coffee pot hadn't been cleaned; and there was lots of cooking splatter on the framed pictures that served as a backsplash and walls around the sink and trash areas. (This is why I brought a container of clorox wipes - I'm super-picky that way, so it was cleaner when we left!) The bedspreads, decorative pillows, & slipcovered furniture need to be laundered. The sheets & towels, floors, and bathrooms were all spotless however. (Those Cuddledown sheets are on my Christmas list!) Oh, and none of the doors in the place want to latch, unless you lock them from inside.
Most people probably wouldn't notice these things, or wouldn't care - just know your own cleanliness preferences and act accordingly. To be fair, it is a dog-friendly unit and there was only one cleaning lady; she would need a team of 3 to get a place that big cleaned every week!
But those things really felt minor by the 2nd day - the place oozes charm and we had a great time. It had everything you could want for a great vacation. Movies, puzzles and games for rainy days; even laundry detergent. And Bailey Island is a gem. Cooks and Sundrenched restaurants are delicious and walkable. Kayak rentals, lobster boat charters, and a couple of beaches for the kids made for a memorable vacation. We will definitely be back.

This rental was very spacious and functioned well for our family with young adults through grandparents.
The locations challenge is with the proximity and angle on the main road. Traffic goes by quickly and entering and exiting is an issue. The one refrigerator was a challenge for the number we had. A cheap refrigerator for the basement would be a great help.
It would be great to clear some of the small trees that have grown up in the front to get the view back a little better. Overall a great rental !!!

Wonderful experience at this property. Do not hesitate to book this large well kept home. Plenty of space for family and friends with unique features throughout. Lasting Maine memories were made. Short drive to excellent hiking and short walk to bridge and breakfast sandwiches on the other side. Shorter walk to Cookes Lobster and Ale when you want to take a break from the gourmet kitchen at the home. Finishing the night with roof deck sunset or enjoying a movie with the family in well appointed basement entertainment area completed an amazing vacation. Communication was perfect and it was great to have our dog with us for this trip. Thanks for the memories.

Property was spacious and well appointed. Beautiful views of the water, even though not water front you had panoramic views of the water, sunrise and sunsets. Fun drive onto and off the island. Quaint trials, 2 gift shops, 2 restaurants and a few other amenities with nearby Brunswick only 20 minutes away for supplies. Great family get away with access to all of east coast Maine from Portland to Acadia within 3 hours drive during busy summer season.

The Captain Johnson house was an amazing retreat for myself and my friends. Watching the sunset from the porch was out evening ritual. All the maritime artifacts were fascinating. The house is stocked with everything you need. Management was very responsive, would definitely stay again!

Initial impression was of a lovely house with personality, but one that was tired., e.g. stained and dirty rug at kitchen sink, inside doors all needing repainting or at least cleaning, most mattresses needing replacements, one bed made with only a single sheet, air conditioning not functioning in any location in the house (reported to Brett Johnson on Wednesday), only two small functioning fans, third small fan broken, garbage bins either unmarked or not corresponding to the House Manual. Deck on living room floor needed more chaise lounges. Only one chair on upper deck (widow's walk.) Driveway eroded and cars could bottom out. Towels were of erratic quality and not well laundered. Bedding was clean but inferior quality. Couch (blue) in front of king bed was old and had no springs.
On the positive side, could walk to kayaking, beach, and restaurants. Very interesting collection of books, games and art on the walls. Basement entertainment room well-equipped and useful. Layout of house very nice.

We absolutely love this beautiful home. Located in a wonderful area and with in walking distance to restaurants. Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short as my daughter got sick but hope to come back next year. This house has everything you could possibly need. My favorite was the incredible selection of books including cookbooks. Best house ever for a relaxing vacation.

This spacious, well-planned house was perfect for our ten-person sibling reunion. On sunny days, the porch and backyard overlooking the cove were lovely. The downstairs big screen TV was handy for rainy afternoons. Kitchen was well-stocked for family dinners. Our hosts and housekeeper were so helpful before and during our stay. The house sits on a busy road (noticeably so in early AM for front bedrooms) and we did not ride bikes there. Also, the roof-top deck we hoped to use was closed. An enjoyable stay!

Comfortable and homey. The only thing I was dissatisfied with was the cleanliness of the grill, cooktop didn’t work well, and the pots and pans were sub par for such a wonderful home. FYI Morse’s is better than Cook’s in our opinion and you would be happy if you booked a Schooner tour on The Alert with Bethany and Perry!

This is a wonderful house in a great location. Had plenty of room and a kitchen with all you need. Fun games and puzzles for the surprise snowy day in April! Host was very responsive to questions.

Beautiful large house decorated warmly - not like a rental. A great kitchen with everything you could have asked for. The problem is Cook's is a 5-minute walk along the water and that is tough competition for even the best home cooking.
