Friendly staff who were happy to help us with anything we needed. Fantastic breakfast choices & a really comfortable bed. Great menu for lunch/tea options as well.
Had a bit of a problem with the shower when switching it on. Temperature went from freezing cold to boiling hot. Sorted it out in the end but that was the only thing really.

The staff are always great, helpful and friendly. Location couldn't be better, and they also have a car park.
Having stayed here a few times (because we really like it) , I honestly think it's time to bite the bullet, and shut for a month, to sort out the interior. It's shabby, tired, and in places, falling to bits. Having travelled a fair bit in my life, I've learned that there's a very thin line, between quirky/homely, and a mess. The dining area has 8 different types of chair, and 5 different designs of table. Plus, odd cushions scattered here and there. It's as if someone just went to a couple of car boot sales and returned with a weird selection. In our room, the method of keeping the sash window open, is a house brick wedged in. The stair carpet i'm pretty sure, is the same one that was there, when we first began staying - years and years ago. I could go on, but I'm not a complainer, and am really only writing this, because we love staying there. It's just a shame. I hope they take this in the spirit that it is meant.

Lovely pub
A tad noisy at night

The rooms were fabulous. We had two rooms for one family and one room had a fab step up jacuzzi bath and the other had a massive corner bath. Both rooms had amazing views of the Peak District out of all three windows. There were sofas in both rooms where we chilled out with a bottle of wine from the bar. The chef made us delicious pack lunches for our hiking trip and the a la carte breakfast and dinners we had were also all top class. I had read other reviews on this property saying that the rooms were a bit dated but this wasn’t the case at all - maybe they have been renovated recently?

Just the right amount of everything with no excess.

Cosy and convenient to the hiking places, with the assurance of comfort should the rain shut us down early. A wonderful winter break. The four poster canopy bed was lovely and the amenities at our tea station were very nice.

Clean and comfy room in the middle of Castletown above a fantastic pub.

Not a lot, as a pub fine
Had to wait for the room to be cleaned, hadn’t been touched old and tired.

Location good
Bit run down in need of refurbishment throughout

Staff were very nice and helpful
Breakfast was average, fried egg didn’t really resemble an egg, fried fat on the bacon.
Noisy room.
Room was dusty and shower tray dirty and shower head coming away from the wall

Great location. Cosy atmosphere in the bar area. Varied menu and decent portion size. Clean bedding and towels.
The pub and rooms need a thorough clean. The bedroom was quite dark and the radiator wasn't working. Thankfully the bathroom radiator was and we had to leave the door open for it to warm the room. The staff were polite but they all looked as though they didn't want to be there. Not one smile! Health and safety doesn't seem to exist....trailing wires on the corridors upstairs. There are notices all over which state they are are renovating the pub and rooms.....however no sign of this happening!

Staff location
Room was very cold and in need of a good clean and some DIY needed

So! This is not the most upmarket accommodation in Castleton, however, it does what it says on the tin and some. Warm, clean, friendly, good vfm and a few little touches that showed they cared. Had one evening meal which I’d describe as good pub grub. If you want opulence, pay more and go elsewhere. This is a good, old fashioned, down to earth boozer. Well done the Old Nags Head
Little bit noisy in the room we had, being next to the access corridor door. Almost not worth mentioning but it shows the review is genuine

Beautiful old English pub set in fantastic location
Slightly dated. Room could do with an upgrade but this did not spoil our stay.

Location is excellent right in the centre of castleton. Breakfast is good quality and plenty of choice. Staff are pleasant.
Car park is small and anyone can park in . not restricted to patrons only.
Is in need of some renovations. Rooms were a little cold as radiator wasn't working

Difficult to open windows

The hotel is in an ideal location in Castleton.
The room was very small for a couple, the bed was squeaky and did not support a good nights sleep. The pillows were flat and on arrival to the room there was no toilet roll. This was rectified when we asked for some. The room was very noisy and you moved in bed when people walked on the corridor.

Lovely pub at a wonderful location. Staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Clean room and bathroom. They're currently renovating so everything will be newly updated soon. Great breakfast in the morning!
The bed was a bit short in case you're tall (6' and up).

Great and very friendly staff. Delicious breakfast. Location is amazing.
It's good to see renovation efforts are underway as the building's age regarding plumbing and the roof is starting to affect the comfort of the stay. The amazing staff was very helpful and proactive in resolving any issues we had during our stay though.

The quirkiness. Lovely and peaceful room considering we were staying above a busy pub. Great friendly environment.
The bathroom was a bit dated. The carpet on the stair case was quite stained. A few cobwebs here and there.

Location ,
A bit tired, mouldy bread at breakfast didn’t notice till last bite nice breakfast though

Breakfast was OK, but I asked the waitress for scrambled eggs, and the bacon and sausage to be really well done, ie, crispy. No scrambled eggs, bacon n sausage medium rare at best. Breakfast cooks / chefs have an issue actually doing crispy bacon.

Excellent value
Mattress a little too hard for me

Food & drink good, room for the most part was also good
The toilet/shower was the smallest (rivelin) I have ever experienced, having banged my arm on the sink after getting up from the loo multiple times & having towels from the towel rail fall off the door that doesn't close, simply because I tried to use the sink ......
Don't know if all rooms are this bad but this would stop me using this hotel again.

Breakfast and service was excellent. Hotel was surprisingly quiet at night. Location was perfect for a Peak District walking holiday.
Bathroom was a little tired.

Bathroom. Bedroom dirty/dusty. Walls definitely needed painting.
Breakfast disgusting. Burnt omelette. Definitely not an award winning breakfast.

In the centre of a lovely village in the heart of the High Peaks area. Comfortable but basic accommodation.
Nothing to complain about.
