Peaceful and Private Shelter Island Getaway

We really enjoyed our stay in this sweet home. Lovely renovated bathrooms and bedrooms, a great fireplace, and a spacious great room made this a very comfortable spot for a quiet family vacation between Christmas and New Year. We loved exploring Shelter Island, Montauk, Sag Harbor, and other area spots. If you are looking for a peaceful spot, this is it - especially in the winter!

This property is a great choice for family of five who need more space than we would get in a hotel, and a perfect location for events on Shelter Island.

While staying in Shelter Island before, it was our first time staying here and overall have only amazing things to say! The house itself was very cozy and the fire place was such an amazing touch. Very clean and easy to check in, great communication with owner, and very accurate listing in a great location. Hope to visit again soon, Thank you!!!

This was my first time using VRBO and it was an outstanding experience. Andrew is such a gracious host and homeowner who responded to my questions immediately, whether it was prior to visiting or while we were there. We were extremely happy upon getting to the property. I have to admit, I did struggle with the lock until I figured out how to get the numbers in view, but that was resolved quickly. When we had trouble with the Internet, Andrew responded immediately with solutions.
The pictures do not do justice as to how comfortable the beds are when you sleep. Mostly, everything in the home is high end and new. I do agree with others about the couch as we did lose feathers while sitting on it, but it was still very comfortable. The water pressure when showering is low, possibly due to the well system. It was enjoyable sitting on the deck watching the turkeys and deer come through the streets and sometimes onto the property.
Tuck, our chocolate lab, needs to run, so we tied up a 100 ft rope, and he had a blast running around the yard.
Everyone we met on the streets or in town at Marie Effiel were so pleasant. Hay Beach was a great recommendation from Andrew, and we enjoyed that as well. We did not experience dining out there as we opted to cook at home, but the next time we will try.
We always made a point of going to Montauk each year, but after visiting this home, we have found our new go to vacation spot on Shelter Island.
For anyone who needs a place to retreat, I would recommend staying at this home. You will not regret your decision. Thank you, Andrew (and your sister,) for a wonderful weekend away from home. We look forward to staying again in the future.

Andrew's place is wonderful. It is a great location, and the house as absolutely everything you need and more. The indoor fireplace and large open-space living and dining room was fabulous. We played Wiffle Ball in the large yard and really enjoyed the private location. We saw many deer and turkey right on the property! We also had easy access to all of Eastern Long Island via the north and south ferries. We made a daytrip to Montauk, and visited a few farms. On the island is a fabulous pizza place, seafood place and bagel spot. We had a great time, and would love to return.

Andrew was a great host. The house was on a beautiful property close to a farm stand which we really enjoyed. Plenty of room for family stay and we had a good time. Our only problem was the couch had loose feathers and the heating ducts were dusty which lead to allergy reactions. Overall a pleasant place to stay. Thank you.

this house...where do i begin!!
it is situated perfectly next to the sylvestor manor farm that has walking trails and a farmstand, it's easy biking distance from the beach (and andrew provides bikes), it is beautifully decorated, and is RENOVATED!
when we arrived, we were so thrilled to see that the downstairs had been completely renovated, central air had been added, and there is now a second bathroom (with a clawfoot tub!) upstairs.
it was the perfect house to spend a month at in shelter island. we will be back!!

We loved Andrew’s home! It was a very comfortable and peaceful base for our family, including our 10 month old, to enjoy Shelter Island. Loved the outdoor spaces, the breezy open floor plan, and charming decor. Also appreciated that it was well equipped with washer/dryer etc. Andrew was very responsive and accommodating. We can’t wait to return for another stay!

We had a wonderful stay with our grandchildren and dog. The great room on the upper floor is cozy and we loved being able to have fires in the fireplace every night during our 11-day spring- break stay. WiFi in the house is strong, and the big-screen TV is terrific for watching movies. The large, well-kept yard offered ample play space for energetic grandkids and dog, and we especially enjoyed the close proximity of the Sylvester Manor Educational Farm across for walks. (Who knew baby pigs could be such fun to watch?!) If you’re planning to do substantial cooking during your stay, check in with host Andrew on available kitchen equipment. He was super helpful in responding to our questions before, during, and after our stay.

My wife and I needed a weekend getaway from Brooklyn and this absolutely hit the spot. Conveniently located in the middle of Shelter Island with easy access to Greenport and Sag Habor, we were able to enjoy the solitude while knowing activities were a 5 minute drive away. The house is perfectly set up to relax - cozy, comfy and kitted out with a record player that make you feel at home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended to our friends.

We stayed here for the majority of July to get out of the city and decompress, best decision we’ve made all year. The home has a great layout and the back yard with lights and grill was we’re we spent majority of our time (tip, brush up on charcoal grill use so you don’t look like an idiot in front of your father in law like I did). The home is centrally located and super easy to everything shelter island has to offer. The best part was riding bikes up to Hay Beach on Hiberry street everyday after work and catching the sunset, it’s a 10 min bike ride we were usually the only people there. Vine street cafe is great for dinner and lunch at Marie effiels never disappointed. Crescent beach and shell beach are great weekend beaches and were never crowded. We also took the ferry over to Greenport for dinner a few times and food there is fantastic. Overall we highly recommend staying here and hope to be back soon.

We liked the house a lot - it's spacious, and it's located within walking distance from a tennis court, and a local grocery store. Also, water is with great pressure, and it's hot (in other places we've rented, it's either not hot, nor has enough pressure for a good shower). Our dog was also very comfortable with the plenty of trees and grass around the house.
The windows on each side allowed a natural flow of fresh air, and the kitchen was never full with smoke.
There's a TV, where one could watch ESPN for free, or just browse YouTube, or watch Sky News live, or just login many of the services available (subscription may be required).
The host has made it all to the details - including real cloth dining napkins.
Weather was great, so w didn't need to use the A/C units, but there was one in each bedroom, and one in the living room.
Overall - if we are going back to Shelter Island, we would contact this property again.

My husband, daughter and I (and our dog!) enjoyed our stay at Andrew's home on SI. The home was great for a low-key family vacation with lots of grilling, beach days and time spent running in the grassy lawn. The property was located an easy walk to ice cream and mini-golf, plus a short drive to the grocery store, multiple beaches, and fun breakfast spots. Definitely recommend for families seeking a relaxed, homey environment that is dog-friendly!

This property really allows the beauty of the surroundings to be seen. There are lots of sliding glass doors and a small second level porch that is perfect for watching the birds, squirrels, deer, and the occasional wild turkey. Delightful.

Perfect stay on Shelter Island. This three room house was just what we needed to accommodate our family for a memorable memorial day weekend. Nice big yard for Frisbee etc. Good grill set up. Spacious kitchen, living/dining room area. Bottom line - our family would like to visit again!

Well kept home in the heart of Shelter! Owners were attentive and made the check-in/check-out process seamless. The property is charming, secluded, yet accessible; only short drive to the heights for a great meal or cup of coffee. The home has bikes that are available to guests were were a fantastic touch. Highly recommend this property and their owners! A+

The house is great for relaxing and getting away from it all. My wife and I stayed here with our 6 month old and 2 black labs. The house itself is very comfortable and has great space with an open layout upstairs and 3 nice sized bedrooms downstairs. The yard was very open and spacious for the dogs to run around. We made good use of the outdoor space one night by using the grill and lighting the fire pit. Other nights we cooked dinner inside, sat by the fireplace and enjoyed the all the charm the house had to offer. We walked to Hay beach and the shops in Dering harbor. We took a ride to the Rams Head Inn on Sunday night and enjoyed some live jazz music at the bar. We hiked the Mashomack preserve and visited the Sylvester Manor. The house served as the perfect home base for our visit to shelter island.

Lovely clean and cozy house. The living space was great for relaxing. We enjoyed morning coffee and breakfast on the balcony and loved falling asleep with the windows and screen doors open, listening to the sounds of nature. The owner responded very quickly when we had questions. The location of the house wa also perfect- close to farm stands and supermarket, a few great eateries and a perfect beach 4 min drive away. The dehumidifier was helpful to keep one of the downstairs bedrooms and bathroom dry. Kitchen was well stocked. We had a great relaxing week at the house.

The house is very cute. We referred to it as the "hen of the woods" as it looks like a mushroom from the street. The house is just what we hoped for with a nice kitchen, a large dining table, and a large living room for relaxing or hosting. There are ton's of fun things to do in the house, whiffle ball, board games and even a vintage record player. I only wish they had a few more records, we listed to the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkle on repeat throughout the day. There is a mini golf course a few doors down called "Whales Tale". If you leave the house and take a right, there is a great run past the most beautiful houses on Shelter and Dering Harbor. Can't wait to go back.
