Waterfront Cottage with Screened Porch surrounded by conservation land

Couldn't have been more enjoyable. Quiet, comfortable cabin in the woods with views through to the river. Part of a complex of cottages on family owned and operated peninsula complete with boat launch.
Family members we met were delightful and helpful.
We will be back!

Beautiful peaceful and relaxing retreat. Close to everything in Georgetown. Kayaking in your front yard. Loved our stay.

My wife and I stayed here 4th of July week. It was very convenient to everything on the peninsula and Bath. The cottage is rustic, but well equipped. The screen porch was great for when we wanted to relax and enjoy the view without getting carried away by the mosquitoes. An excellent value and we would definitely return.

I loved everything about this cottage. Location is perfect if you want a tranquil place to recharge your batteries. Surrounded by woods with a porch overlooking the tidal river. Can't get better than this. Close enough to the quaint town of Bath and Georgetown where you can visit the beautiful Reid National Park. Would definitely return.

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The layout worked really well and we loved sitting on the screened in porch. Water access was near by for kayaks and we spent each day at a different beach in the area. It was even close enough to Portland for us to spend a night out there.

this is a perfect little cottage. it is big enough for two and to invite two more people for dinner. there is enough of everything: dishes, cutlery, towels, and if you're missing something, you can call Katie who responds quickly and helpfully. the star of this cottage is a screened in porch that increases the space of the first floor by another third. it is comfortable and gives onto the river, a tidal river that reverses course with the tides and provided me with endless fascination. while there are other cottages quite close, from the porch, you can't see them, and i rarely heard them. the cottage is wooded, so it stays pretty cool in the heat of the day and the screened-in porch catches whatever breezes may wander by.
if there is a downside, it is that you are right off 127, the main drag through Georgetown and there is traffic noise all day and sometimes into the night. that said, it is hardly blastingly loud, just a noticeable rumble that might get in your way as you're listening to the birds. i appreciated the pass to Maine's Parks (and used it to visit Reid's Park at the end of Georgetown) and the history of the place (thanks Sam, for the stories!).

This rustic little cottage had all I needed for a restful stay of reading, painting, word puzzling and binge TV watching. Owner was great.

Gorgeous, quiet, deeply restful
Love the screen porch with the all-day view of marsh and river, oak-pine forest and boulders; also the gorgeous nearby beaches. Feels deliciously remote — we heard very few engines of any kind — yet close to groceries, restaurants, etc. Most cabins are too musty for me — I’m allergic to molds — but this one was clean and dry and smelled great thanks to lots of windows letting in the salty sea air. Host Katie was awesome, very friendly and helpful and totally un-homophobic. Wish we could stay and stay! One week was barely enough time to decompress.

Perfect Vacation
My wife and I stayed in the Sheepscott Cottage for a week in Sept. Very clean, quiet, comfortable. Beautiful view of the Back River and Marsh. We had coffee on the back porch every morning and enjoyed the view. We went kayaking on the Back River from the dock, went to Popham Beach and walked the sand bar, Reid State Park Beach, Morse Mountain Seawall Beach. Climbed Higgins Mountain, Went to the Maine Maritime Museum and took a cruise down the Kennebec River, went to Bowdoin College to the museum and art gallery. We ate out at some really good restaurants (Blue being the best). We used the cottage as a base camp to explore the area, but this would also be a great place to just hangout, cookout, and sit around a fire. We highly recommend this cabin. The owners are great, the location is great. It made for the perfect vacation.

Sheepscott Cottage
The property was perfect for us. Everything was as described in the listing. The owner and her family stopped by several times to make sure we were comfortable. We have stayed at several different properties in Maine and this one was the most enjoyable. Definitely on our list to go back.

little gem
We just loved the nature surrounding this adorable cottage. We were able to relax even with two kids 4 and 7 years old. Just sitting out on the screened in porch was a vacation (amazing view of the water!). The cottage itself is so cozy and has everything you need. The owners are very welcoming and very easy to reach.

Best Cottage we’ve ever stayed in!
This cottage is just perfect! Clean, very comfortable, and privacy galor! There’s cottages in the area they are just set up perfectly. And, you don’t have to travel far to experience great areas of Maine. We were up there during the week of July 4th and it was so quiet, even on the holiday which was very nice. Such a fantastic vacation!!

Absolutely wonderful 41st anniversary getaway!
Absolutely wonderful 41st anniversary getaway! My wife and I enjoy the state of Maine in the fall .The Back River Cottages are in beautiful Georgetown, Maine and nestled amongst the pine and deciduous trees . Our cabin was quite secluded with views of the Back River .........we spent much time on the screen porch enjoying good food and drink with a peaceful serenity and all the comforts of home .Sam and Ruth Francis, the owners and managers of the cottages have passed the torch to their son, Chris and his wife, Katie. They were the perfect host and hostess. Our only regret was not having more time .....we only had two nights ..... a week would have been so much more enjoyable.

Serenity
This cottage is the definition of tranquility. It is nestled in the forest with an amazing view of the river from the screened in porch. We spent the weekend reading books in complete silence (something we normally get very little of with two small children at home) and popping into the many local towns to bump around the antique shops and eat amazing seafood meals. We highly recommend it and will be visiting again!

Wonderful Getaway
We had an amazing stay. The Sheepscott cottage was wonderful for my wife and 2 year old daughter. The best part of hte cottage was the screened in porch. We enjoyed our morning coffee and evening conversation there. The cottage was secluded enough to feel like we got away but also close to a lot of fun day trips. Ruth was a wonderful and helpful host.

Clean, quiet, peaceful cabin!
If you are looking for a clean, quiet, peaceful getaway this is the place for you! My cabin was cozy, well maintained and away from the stresses of traffic and noise yet close to the Maine amenities I came to see. Reid State Park and the city of Bath is less than a 10 minute drive in opposite directions. My dogs and I really enjoyed the nearby hiking trails, the views and overall peacefulness of the Back River Bend cottages. Ruth is a gracious, helpful and friendly host. I really enjoyed my time here and would come back again.

nice and quiet place to stay
this is a nice and quiet place, very clean, the view when you're sitting at the back is beautiful, the only thing is the road to go to the chalet is narrow and with my car that is low i had to be very careful driving there.

So Relaxiing

A great place to get away from it all.
If you are looking for a great place to get away from the stress of your daily life your looking at the right place. We have enjoyed visiting Back River Bend for 6 years now. It has all the beauty Maine has to offer in a very relaxing atmosphere. And there is an unlimited amount of things to do in the area should you grow tired of relaxing. Reid State park has two wonderful sand beaches just minutes away. Looking for lobster. Georgetown has the best Maine has to offer in my opinion. For greating shopping head to Freeport or Boothbay harbor. Both are a short 30 minute drive. There are also many other great towns close by that have all the Maine charm that you are looking for. Best of all Back River Bend has the most gracious hosts you will ever meet. They always make you feel welcome and go out of their way to make your stay the most that it could possibly be.
