all the facilities in the room are old and needs to rebuild everything….

This hotel was definitely the highlight of our trip through Portugal. The castle itself is incredible! The room was pretty modest. Great delicious breakfast.
Amenities are very old, no wifi in the room

Fantastic Palace in a quiet place.

The view was fantastic and very satisfied about the restaurant and bar.
The room was bit humite and heater didnt work during the day.

I don't know how the hotel staff can cope with this amazing visual delight day after day.
Egyedülálló csoda.
4.5
The castle and location are spectacular. It really feels like you're staying at a castle. The food was very good. The staff were all very kind, thoughtful and helpful. The grounds are wonderful to walk through.
The bathrooms are a bit dated, but everything works. Some of the furnishings are a bit tired. But who cares, it's a castle.

The location of this property is stunning as is the building on the outside.
Apart from the location there is not much to like. Although Booking.com lists this property as 5 stars, it is definitely not more than 3 stars, something that was confirmed to us by the reception when checking out!
Inside the property everything is tired looking. Officially they should have WiFi, except it is only working at the reception desk.
In our room we could hear the elevator going up and down all the time. The bed was uncomfortable, aircon must have been 40 years old, hairdryer about the same. No minibar.
The restaurant and bar are pretentious and severely overpriced. We paid 200 Euros for a 5 course meal incl a bottle of wine, and they wanted us out in 50 minutes.

The interior of this castle has the "wow" factor, it is grand, perfect for special events like ours. plenty of activities, the convent museum, the shop, and more. The forest is perfect for long walks and enjoy nature. Truly one of a kind!
I do not have anything to share that I did not like.
4.5
Staying in the hotel is a magical experience in the setting of the forest and surrounded by Portugal's history. If your budget permits, in particular for dinner, then go for it!
The lift was out of order and it was a long way up to the second floor. But the staff were good enough to carry up our bags!

A different experience than the beaten tourist paths. The arboretum is unique with a very decent 2-3 hours hiking. Restaurant is good I will recommend the beef tartar. The lounge is excellent for some fine Port testing with cheese platter.
4.5
It is a grand old hotel filled with history and mystique. It still preserves some of the aurae of its original owner, one of the last kings of Portugal. The grand rooms downstairs are beautiful and could be in a Downton Abbey episode. The grand hotel does need renovation, love and dedication from its owners. The current furniture is from the 80s and my bed was from that or later decade.
The hotel should showcase the local products and gastronomy, plus have highly trained hospitality employees. The restaurant misses a regional connection, a named chef, and an ever-changing menu. Both the food for dinner and breakfast was good but not extraordinary. The rooms need more up-to-date furniture (I haven't slept in a 140x200 bed with my husband) and downstairs. The staff are clearly dedicated to the hotel and have been there for many decades, but they miss new expertly trained new blood.

This is an extraordinary Hotel on a Palace built for one of Portugal last kings and it is by itself a masterpiece of architecture in the Manuelini style ( linked to Porugueses Sea Discoveries). Highly recommended for its historical value/ architecture.
The wifi is a shambles and not aceppatble at all on a 5 Star hotel . Did not work in the lounge where we were told it was working and several attempts to get it going all failed . To be sitting in a magnificent room full of history and enjoy a Cognac whilst reading the news on my IPad as my ideia of excellence which without wifi was totally ruined . Not acceptable, I say again on a 5 star hotel.

The room had a fenomenal view, really beautiful. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The amenities were good. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows too. It was very cold outside however inside it was really warm and cosy. Great TV. All fabulous!!! Actually the hotel is very quite, we slept like Kings! The architecture is marvelous.

Quite historic, incredible grounds, interesting convent right there.
No A/C

The gentleman at check in was lovely and helpful but couldn’t make up for over priced, horrible conditions the rooms were and the completely over priced dinner which was underwhelming at best.
The first room we were in was horrible, with HUGE stains on the carpet. I actually had to pay extra to get a room that didn’t have stains/wet floor. The meal was NOT worth the $300 and took over 3 1/2 hours with horrible service.
3.5
Its unique architectural style and location. it’s interesting history, including its historical wines
The lost complete absence of wi-fi is a major fault these days. it was only available in the lobby, and precarious at best. There was none in the bedrooms.
The bedroom was still old fashioned and there could have been more surface area.
While the dinner menus were ambitious there was loss of continuity between kitchen and wait staff, that is delay between starter and mains. The mains were served luke warm on cold plates on one occasion.

the food at the restaurant was bad , the service was bad and we got a food poisoning!!!
3.5
The location and the gardens
The service: there is no bellboy to help with suitcases, there was a live worm in the breakfast salad, at dinner we said that one of us is allergic to mushrooms and there were mushrooms in the dish the rooms were not clean there is no Wi-Fi in the rooms
4.5
staff wasn't very friendly except for the check in staff and concierge. Dinner was very expensive however the ambiance was incredible and the hiking icing on the cake.
No AC. Room service delivered fruit that was covered in fruit flies and overly ripe. not edible.
2.5
breakfast, dinner, dining room
BEAUTIFUL PALACE
small room, furniture old, no A/C, heard everything from corridor and stairs.
Because of noisy young guests, had to get up and complain to the staff about it.
The night manager was sitting downstairs doing nothing about the noise.
After my complain the noise stopped and could sleep

A real palace that is also a hotel, with wonderful.location in a forest.

location: great
staff: friendly and helpful
parking: free
rooms: renovated in 70s(guessing)
bathroom: we had ants in bathroom and some mold
4.0
the patio and the forest, and sleeping in a palace. romantic package was great.
the rooms were outdated. the room was really hot in direct sun, no AC or fan. bed wasn’t very comfortable
3.5
It is an old historic building with magnificent tiled pictures but it trades on that
The quality and choice of the food was fine but it is overpriced.
They are trading on the building. The furnishings are tired and the paintwork peeling. It needs a great deal of money spent to justify the prices charged.
The food was expensive and the wine even more so (cheapest wine €40!)
3.0
The location and the public area of the hotel
The maintenance level of the room is very low. Broken tiles in the shower, leaking faucets in the bathroom.
