In fair Te Anau, where travelers rest their heads,
A haven named for Shakespeare’s famed abode,
In Juliet’s chamber, dreams find cozy beds,
Forsooth, a dwelling where true comforts flowed.
Our gracious host, a guide with noble grace,
Didst steer us through the sights of yonder land,
With counsel rich, as wisdom did embrace,
An ally true, as if by fate’s own hand.
The dwelling vast, a spacious, warm retreat,
A comfort’s cradle in the southern air,
Sweet dreams and respite in each gentle sheet,
A tranquil haven, beyond compare.
So, let this sonnet sing our praises true,
To Shakespeare’s House, a gem in Te Anau.
All good!!

Lovely facility with a great team Nathan and Liz. Used this as a base for going on the Doubtful Sound bus/boat trip and driving to Milford Sound. We were set up each day with a good breakfast, and after having eaten out quite a bit during our stay it was wonderful to be able to make our own meals in the very clean and well-equipped kitchen. In retrospect, we would have liked to stay longer and do some walking in the area and get out on a kayak on Te Anau Lake. We will definitely go back when next we are on South Island. A must - it was stunning overall - especially with the autumn colours. Ps.. thanks so much for helping us get our jackets back.

Very friendly, welcoming B&B with clean rooms, good breakfast and great advice from Nathan, the manager. Cooked our own meal once as well, nice kitchen facilities. Quiet neighbourhood, nice 10-minute walk into town.

The location was amazing, close to lake by car or walking. Host was warm and friendly with lots of knowledge of the surrounding areas. Breakfast was everything you needed to start your day, and most of all great coffee. Would definately recommend to family and friends 😍

We enjoyed our stay at the Shakespeare. The owners were super helpful with local information.
We were able to use their kitchen at night, and a nice breakfast came with our stay.
There was also a huge common room to hang out.

Nathan and Liz were excellent hosts. They provided us with lots of local knowledge and tips for hiking and tours. The breakfast was great, I’m already missing Liz’s fruit muffins.

Not a single bad thing to say! Hosts were VERY friendly and helpful, could accommodate to our special requests. Breaky was great, rooms were clean and tidy, good ventilation. Looks like recently renovated place. Absolutely loved every second of the stay!
Nothing to complain, really.

Good locatiin
Small dark room. Very basic staff for the included breakfast, e. g. you have to pay extra for the eggs. I missed the last breakfast the day of my chech out, because I was cleaning my room and did not realized that breakfast is served till 8-30AM only. The owners even did not suggest me a cup of juice or coffee.

The owners were very friendly and helpful.
The rooms were incredibly small, hot, and claustrophobic and were certainly not as they looked on the advertised photographs of the rooms. The general feel of the place when we arrived was a very small step up from a backpackers which did not improve throughout our stay. The upkeep of the property was very poor, we paid for breakfast in advance and were offered self service cheap bread, budget stale cereals and awful coffee. We were also asked to pay extra if we wanted anything else. Breakfast also finished at 8.30am! You very much felt like you were a sideline to the couples lives. I was also expected to wash up my breakfast things because I went on a little after 8.30am. For over $800 for 2 rooms for 2 nights, very poor.

Loved how cozy and clean the room was. The place was the perfect location by the lake within a brisk walk to town.

It’s a great value for the money. It offers everything you need but in a minimalist style. It’s more of a place to spend one night rather than any extended time. WiFi was very good.
It’s classed as B&B but it’s much more like a small hotel for transient people. The place is charmingly called “The Shakespeare” and our room was the “Summer night dream”, but it would be more aptly called a Lodge and our room “the 4th door down”. Still, a decent place.
