Breakfast was nice; service was bad. The inn had a lovely appearance, and our first impression was quite positive. Nice art throughout; nice courtyard. Room was very nice and bedding was comfortable. Nice fire in sitting area at breakfast only. Inn provided bottled water.
The inn was cold, literally and figuratively, in stark contrast to the inn in Mexico City, where we also spent 4 nights. No heat in any common spaces except inside at breakfast, making the courtyard and sitting room unusable. No happy hour snacks or wine to incentivize people to hang out. The inn seemed almost deserted. To say the kitchen staff (breakfast only) were inattentive is a gross understatement. They never smiled and had an overall air of resentment. We had to ask for everything, including coffee. Another big disadvantage of the inn: one could not get coffee before 8:30 AM! The desk clerk (with one exception) spoke no English, making any assistance impossible. The sad thing about this inn is, if better managed, it could have been wonderful. Only things needed: coffee available anytime, heaters in courtyard, snacks and fire in sitting area during evening hours to incentivize people to hang out, and friendly, helpful staff with at least one person with basic knowledge of English.

Luis and his staff are very welcoming and helpful. Casa Calderoni is great value, clean, comfortable, well-run and cute! It doesn't have all the bells n whistles but for the price, it is a good quality mid-price stay. While the breakfast is good, one of the best things about Casa Calderoni is the location and directly across the street from Jacques Cafe. The food is unbelievable! The quality, choice and excellent service is impeccable. Truly a few 'cuts above'. Everything is done to perfection! Also, Casa Calderoni is literally on the same block as the Mercado de Artesanías. And, about a 10 minute walk to el Centro. It's why, when in SMA, it will be my casa of choice.
No bar. No pool. Separate tables vs. one or two community tables for breakfast would be my preference. Hot water upstairs takes a while for sure.

Nos gustó mucho la calidez del anfitrión Sr Luis, quien siempre nos compartió opciones para visitar, y en la habitación nunca tuvimos frío, todo muy bien.
El desayuno muy limitado

This is a small charming hotel in an old but beautifully and artfully updated building on a quiet pretty street with little traffic. It is only a few hundred yards from the Cathedral and center of town. The staff is excellent and helpful, Excellent breakfast is includedl Room was large and pretty with a huge comfortable bed, nice bathroom and several small balconies looking onto the street and courtyard.
SMA is a beautiful, fun, interesting artsy town with tons of shopping, galleries, restaurants, etc. We always felt safe.
Occasional early morning noise, more obvious because so quiet most of the time. Nothing the hotel could do about that. Coffee was the weakest part of breakfast.
SMA has about 10% expats which is good and bad. Even stores that aren't art galleries or design stores look like they are and shopping options are amazing. But central stores are extremely expensive (think Rodeo Drive) and restaurant food is affordable, but wine prices are crazy. Great town and hotel overall!

We loved the location of the property. It was close to the square & we could walk everywhere. They had all of the amenities we needed & were quick to help us with anything else. The staff was wonderful & attentive.

Beautiful facility, friendly staff, nice rooms which were quiet with comfortable beds. A very nice place to stay.
The breakfast was not that good. The cereal, fruit, and yogurt was nice but the freshly prepared meal was not well prepared.

At check out I was caught completely off guard by a request to tip on the total room bill, tax and all. This was completely unexpected and a first. I asked what was typical and was told 10%. I did pay but after I had my regrets which cast a dark cloud on an otherwise good experience. Yes, I had a choice in theory, however there was subtle pressure. Think of it like a smiling hold-up. My reservation was in $US, however they insisted on converting to MX Peso's at an unfavourable rate for payment. This creates a double currency conversion, more added expense. These charges are intentional and not in keeping with internationally accepted hotel practices, more like deception and shenanigans. If they feel they are entitled to more money, simply raise the room rate, the market will decide. For these reasons I would never return.

Exceptional Breakfast! Quiet, beautiful street. Extremely helpful staff.
Every room is inspired by a different artist. We stayed in the Picasso room and loved it. We saw the Van Gogh room (lovely top floor balcony), The Diego room (spacious with open air windows) and the Henri Matisse room (spacious with sitting room, but no outdoor windows.
