After having stayed a night in Iquitos, I wanted to experience the jungle and decided to stay at a lodge. I am thrilled that I chose the Jacamar lodge - not necessarily for the lodge (basic and rustic accommodation, fairly priced), but because of the fantastic staff at the lodge and the amazing tour guide. I booked a night at the lodge, and was soon contacted to arrange a guide through the lodge (a must do, as it is difficult to explore independently).
My guide Christian knew the jungle inside out, spotted so many animals, was telling beautiful stories about the life in the jungle, and was very knowledgable about the plants and animals. In my two days in the jungle I did a jungle walk, night walk to spot reptiles (saw frogs, snakes, tarantulas, other spiders, bats, etc.), a 5:30 am sunset birdwatching cruise, dolphin spotting, and we went to a rescue center for monkeys rescued from the exotic animal trade. Please note that these were the activities that I wanted to do - Christian said from the beginning that I can chose what to do, and he will guide me. The activities were exceptional, but even the boat rides through the big and small rivers framed by dense forest, looking to spot animals and hearing about life in the jungle was magical.
The food at the lodge was very good. At the beginning they asked me about allergies and if I don't eat specifc things - I only eat fish and vegetarian food, and they cooked me great meals using the regional ingredients from the jungle.
As it is a remote location, there was only electricity to charge from 6 till 9 pm. This was ok for me, as I was out most of the time and just needed to charge my phone during this time slot.

Safe, comfortable and cozy place, the food is local of very good quality
Adriel has been an impressive guide, always waiting to let us know the jungle with enthusiasm and wanting us to make the most of it.
Very interesting activities such as seeing sloths, monkeys, toucans, birds of different species, we saw pink and gray dolphins, we fished for piranhas, 100% Recommended and well organized.

My experience in the jungle with jacamar tours exceeded all of my expectations. It was truly an amazing experience. First I would like to say I am a solo traveler, and while I’m pretty well traveled I still wanted to be sure I could have a safe experience that would check all the boxes in terms of what is offered for the jungle tour. I picked Jacamar tours because it had good reviews and it looked well positioned on one of the tributaries off the Amazon river. I must say it did not disappoint! Shortly after I booked, Danny the tour guide reached out to me just to touch base and help gear me up. I truly appreciated that and it made me feel like I already had a connection and that I would go into the jungle knowing what I should do and bring. Make sure you bring bug spray and long sleeve shits/pants. With spray the bugs were not bad at all btw. After I arrived in Iquitos he met me that evening and it was really great to put a face to the name and discuss further what it would be like. As mentioned, you pay for the room and then the price for the tour guide is $50 per day. Also please remember that these people work incredibly hard and keep us safe out in the jungle. Without them we would not have this experience. So it is customary to leave a tip beyond the $50 per day that you pay for the tours, I chose to leave a very generous tip, it’s up to you but really think about how wonderful the experience is and try to tip as much as you can at the end. Also bear in mind that your tours are private and customized for what you want- you do not go on tours with a big group of people which is awesome. I cannot begin tor explain what a great price this is for a person that is literally from the jungle and stayed with me the whole time! He was so kind and knowledgeable- Danny truly made the experience more than I ever could have imagined.
There was nothing I didn’t like. Obviously know it’s a rustic property but that’s why we are in the Amazon 😊😊

Danny our guide was great. Food was good, too.

Our guide, Dinni and our boat driver, Saudi, were excellent! All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating and seemed interested in making our experience at Jacamar enjoyable. The lodge itself is very basic and primitive, but certainly adequate for lodging and the food was good. Fresh fish and chicken were meal basics and the fruits and juices provides each time we returned from excursions were delicious. After fishing, our catch was cooked two different ways for our lunch. Dinni was very good at spotting wildlife and found monkeys every outing in the jungle, and pink dolphins in the river when we went out searching for them. He also tailored the outings to fit our interests providing very personalized service. The transfers from and returning to the airport were flawless and easy for us. Overall, an excellent experience.
The water pressure in the shower is low, and the building standards are adequate. But, this is to be expected for the location! It's all part of the experience. The staff really makes up for any shortcomings in the accommodations.

Jacamar lodge is very well organised. Accomodation is nice, rooms cleaned, good meals and drinks. Also the tours in the jungle to spot birds, trees, dolphins, monkey's are well organized, but what you get to see obviously depends on the day and some luck. I certainly appreciated my stay, and the support from Jacamar lodge to pick me and my family up from my hotel and bring me back to my hotel in Iquitos. Scoring the accomodation is difficult since i have no way to compare this with similar accomodations. In any case, I think this accomadation is offering good value for money. great experience!
Perhaps a bit more explanation from guides on animal life in the jungle. Be prepared that lodge has some expectation on tipping at the end of your stay. I personally find it difficult to figure out the right amount for tipping, and used 10% rule for my overall stay. Clearly, this place has no wifi or 4G connection. On your tours, you accosionally pass by a small jungle village, where there is 4G, and where you can quickly check up on emails.

The location and the staff were amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide in Junior, and the lodge in itself was also very comfortable to stay in. The tours were all very diverse as well as manageable and flexible. Everything was very well organized and we were very well taken care of by our guide and the lodge staff. We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights which ended up being perfect, as we really got to see everything and all sorts of animals from Sloths to pink dolphins and Caymans. In-between tours there was also plenty of time yo relax. FYI, there is no wifi or reception, which we however very much enjoyed as it allowed us to fully disconnect from our other life and enjoy this wild Amazonian paradise.

It was the best experience we ever had.
Our tour guide was Danny and he knew the place really well. So we catched 8 Piranhas (15 in total), saw dolphins and even the Pygmy Marmoset!
We were so lucky that sloths were near the lodge so we could see one from 5 meters away. Other animals we saw were big spiders, triboas (snake) and Leguane and of course a lot of monkeys. We would always recommend to do 3 or 4 nights, so that if you don't have luck to see an animal or with the weather, you can try another day. Danny knew every bird by sound and we learned so much. The lodge had everything we expected, it was clean and the food was quite good. You can try every day another juice. Everyone was really friendly to us!
But don't underestimate the mosquitos. Bring enough Mosquitospray and try to wear always white clothes.
You pay 45 dollars per day for the tours extra, but it was totally worth it.

Amazing experience! We had a room with a view of the river, surrounded by plants, butterflies, frogs and multicolored birds. We never tired of the sounds of the jungle and of its colours, tastes and smells. The food was great and tasty, made with genuine local produce such as river fish, jungle fruits and vegetables and homegrown chicken, and the service friendly and attentive. There was a guide dedicated to me and my friend 24 hours a day, Danny, who was nice and funny and explained us everything about the animals, the plants, the legends and the people of the jungle. In three days we have been everywhere by boat and on foot and have seen everything there was to see: monkeys, dolphins, butterflies, amazonic birds, local villages, giant trees, snakes and sloths. I strongly recommend the lodge and especially the excursions with Danny and his colleagues. Don’t forget to bring mosquito repellent and a raincoat!

Sorry Machu Picchu but Jacamar Lodge will provide me with the most, great memories of my trip to South America. From having several monkeys coming down from a giant tree and then trying to all sit on my head to trying to work out which sounds are which in the cacophony of the jungle throughout the night , this was just an incredible experience. Danny, my guide was extremely kind and patient when he was helping an old , unfit, European like me. If it wasn’t for him , I would not have seen nearly as much.
The Lodge is in the jungle, by a tributary of The Amazon. Electricity is provided by solar panels and petrol generators. As a result there are no fans and the lights go off at 9 pm. The mosquitoes are a nuisance, but you really are away from most civilisation and this isn’t a glamping trip. There is a cook who has her own kitchen . She gets fresh provisions every day so there are three good quality meals every day. Going piranha fishing with a branch was one of the more original experiences that I had.
At no point did I feel that I was ever in any danger as Danny always “had my back”. Beds were comfortable and the mosquito net worked most of the time. The lodges give you enough privacy so that you can relax in a hammock, wearing a wet t shirt without anyone seeing you.
This is the real reason that I travel - a unique, unforgettable experience. Thanks to Danny for making it so simple.
If you expect to be in the middle of the jungle rather than a town centre hotel, you will not be disappointed. The journey from Iquitos is about 2 1/2 hours so most people did 3 days/2 nights or 4 days/ 3 nights.

Our guide, Raoul, was very nice. The piranha fishing is nice, boat at sunrise to listen the bird is amazing. Also the sunset in the Amazon river was beautiful. We liked that it was all organized. Quantity of food is very good (it's self service). They are flexible to arrange if you have special request.
In the comments before it's said the food is amazing. For us it was very very basic, rice, salad and meat (like every menu del día we had during 3 months). We were a bit sad to not have more vegetables and not the possibility to try the fruits of the jungle. Also we stayed one day too long, I think the best is 2 nights 3 days because after it is just jungle walk after jungle walk to try to see animals. We didn't see many animals (we saw monkeys and birds) but I mean, that's nature. They provide the taxi from the airport when you arrive but let you basically at the dock of the boat when you leave and you have to manage your own transport. Finally we feel that the lodge, whereas 1h45 from Iquitos, is still very very close to a lot of villages so the wildlife is not very visible.

Jacamar lodge is a great place in the Jungle, with super friendly staff and a fantastic shabby-chic ambience, we enjoyed the food, excursions and the overall experience and would recommend it to people looking for an authentic Amazon time
The whole lodge would benefit from some TLC and the bathrooms particularly are tiny (given the rooms are really big) - some thought could be given to one or two small changes such as better towels and bedding which would make a big difference.

We (Nynke & René) loved the experience!! We went in january 2020 and were treated as Kings with good food, lots of jungle adventures and a super-guide named Miguel who literally stuck his neck out to make everyone comfortable and satisfied in there jungle experience!! Transfers were very well arranged and also the location was awesome!! I give this experience a 5 star review!

Very friendly and attentive staff, especially our tour guide Miguel. The food was tasty with lots of fruit and vegetables. We did three tours to the jungle every day, saw lots of animals and generally learned a lot! The rooms have all necessary basic amenities and mosquito nets for the beds. There's also a hammock room which we loved!
Regarding airport transfer: I saw other reviews that said there were issues with airport pick-up in the afternoon, but we arrived at 13:30 and everything worked perfectly for us! We were picked up right outside the arrivals hall and brought to the office in Iquitos. From there the owner accompanied us to the port, from where his staff brought us to the lodge. Transport back to the airport worked flawlessly as well.
Bathroom could be slightly larger
