We have stayed here mutiple times. If your looking for simple, peace, and privacy this is your place. Very easy to work with owners whom always are open for questions. Dont freak out with no AC. I am a florida boy and several years ago I stayed in the summer and saw no AC. Just open the windows and let the mountain do its job. They have a few fans and its more than comfortable in the evenings. Prettiest road in western NC is Wayah road which you take if going west off the mountain. Bryson city, Murphy, Cherokee, Franklin, Dillsboro is all relatively close. Great cabin!

This was our 3rd two week stay. We enjoy the seclusion and incredible location. Lots to explore in the area, then a private solitude upon return. Cabin is well stocked.

Such a cool location. Great activities all around: rafting, hiking, fishing, etc.

My family and I enjoyed this private little cabin very much. It gave us some wholesome experiences and wonderful memories to treasure! It was truly beautiful and peaceful!
The location of this cabin is perfect. Groceries are 25 minutes away and horseback riding, awesome hiking trails (e.g., Wesser Bald), and whitewater rafting are 15 to 30 minutes away. The owner was responsive when contacted and was kind to provide plenty of towels, soap, paper items, cleaning supplies, and so on so we didn't need to purchase such items. You will need charcoal for the grill, but the cabin is stocked with the rest of the essentials (e.g., pans, plates, cups, etc.). There was some dust built up in some areas, but the cabin was mostly clean. There is no AC, but the air was cool enough.
The driveway can be a little nerve racking, even for people like us who have years of experience with challenging mountain roads. We were informed by a local fireman that he has had to rescue people on the driveway, mostly in the winter, who tried backing up on the driveway and drove off the side of the mountain. So, if you choose this gem of a cabin, do not back up and do not try to park at the barn. Stay to the left, keep driving until you find the cabin, and maybe consider bringing an AWD or 4WD vehicle (I can't imagine trying to drive to the cabin in the winter without AWD/4WD). The driveway takes about three-and-a-half minutes to navigate at a safe speed (two-and-a-half once you get the hang of it).

My wife and I were looking for a place to have a quiet and secluded retreat to celebrate our 30th anniversary. This was the perfect place for just that! The location is very remote, yet also close to many hiking trails, and other outdoor activities. We went to dinner in Bryson City one evening, which was not too far away.
The cabin is very clean and stocked with plenty of dishes, small appliances, linens, towels, blankets, etc. All major appliances were in great working condition. The TV's in the living areas and bedroom are hooked up with DirectTV, but they were rarely used as we spent most of the time on the porch soaking in the amazing views and listening to the chattering birds. The hot tub was in perfect working condition and was greatly appreciated after a morning of hiking and for an evening soak.
We were nervous about the driveway at first based on other reviews, but our Odyssey minivan made it up with no problems. Put it in low gear, take it slow and easy, and enjoy the climb as it takes you deeper and deeper into the woods with a wonderful refuge at the top of the road. It was easy and fun each time we traversed it after that!
It is difficult to put into words the feelings of isolation, peace and calm that we felt during our stay. We didn't want to leave and we definitely want to return. If you are looking for a place to escape the stress of everyday life and relax surrounded by nature’s peace and quiet, this is the place!

This property has now become our favorite. Coming from a busy area in Florida all we wanted was peace and quiet and this quaint cabin gave us just that. Dan was the perfect host
checking in on us and providing us places to eat in town and making sure we stopped at the grocery store before we drove to the cabin. The drive into the cabin was epic and the hot tub was the icing on the cake. Highly recommend. Even my teenager daughter had a great time.

We really enjoyed this beautiful cabin. If you want to take a step away from your busy everyday life this is the place to stay. We loved everything about it from the hot tube to the fire pit❤️ The views are breathtaking! We have never stayed in a place so tucked away. The owners are very nice and attentive. Thank you for being a great host. We will definitely be back!

Shayla and Dan were amazing hosts, available to answer any questions I had and provided great information about the cabin once we arrived.
The pictures really don’t do this cabin justice. Gorgeous views and literally everything we needed was available to us. It was the most peaceful away from everything trip we’ve ever been able to find. A absolute pleasure to wind down with only the distraction of birds and squirrels.

This is our second stay at Dan and Sheyla’s Happy Top cabin. Once in 2021 and now 2023. We enjoy the time we can disconnect and relax in the mountains. At arrival the cabin was clean and ready. Dan called via home phone to check in on us and made sure we arrived safely. Dan also made sure we had proper heat during our stay and that we were comfortable in all aspect of our stay. The cabin has 99% of all necessary equipment to make your stay with them easy. I.e pots, pans, plates, etc. Per my last advice when traveling to Happy Top - bring the food you’ll want and need for the duration of stay and you’ll be set. Nantahala outdoor Center is 40-45 mins away for a nice outdoor activity, shops and restaurants, note: Lake Ends restaurant closes for the winter season and doesn’t open back until spring so be aware of business season closures. The WiFi in the cabin is nice to have specially when checking local businesses and what to do around the area. Overall another successful stay at Happy Top.
My only request is additional outdoor lighting at the fire pit area and hot tub area. Because when you’re telling scary campfire stories and start to hear things in the woods it really gets you. 😂 👻

We've stayed here once before and enjoyed it so much we decided to come back during a different season. We love the peace and quiet here and the view from the front patio is so perfect that we spent most of our time outside taking it all in. The cabin itself is perfect and has everything you could possibly need. The driveway up isn't paved, but we had no trouble driving up in my VW Golf front wheel drive. We'll definitely be staying again here in the future!

This cabin has become a new Favorite for our Mountain retreats. It was very well appointed with all the items of home and great attention to detail. Although the leaves are still on the trees; it has great views from the property. It is a close drive to some many various recreational spots which we were able to access and enjoy.
We carried our two dogs and they both love the place also. I actually had an issue connected with the TV satellite, so I made a call to the owner.
He answered immediately and graciously helped me through the process; problem solved. My partner and I were amazed at how clean and well kept the whole area around Nanatahalla is.
Having stayed in vacation cabins across the Appalachian Mountains for over 30 years; this place is truly at the very top of the list.

I cannot say enough about this clean, quaint, cozy, everything mountain-wonderful, true log cabin. The hosts were more than welcoming and were very attentive during our stay. It was a nice touch for them to call the house phone to welcome us and also tell us goodbye, very personable and I enjoyed chatting with Dan. The cabin was perfect, the view was perfect, so many wonderful things in nature to do around you. We had no issue with the driveway and our average-sized SUV is not 4 wheel drive. It is nothing more than a narrow, dirt road leading to the most perfect cabin! You will not be let down choosing this property for your mountain getaway. Everything that you will possibly need is at your fingertips, as the hosts thought of everything! We look forward to coming back very soon! Thanks Dan and Sheyla!

I cannot say enough positive things about this rental. The cabin is cozy and comfortable. The kitchen is stocked. The bed is comfortable. The owners are friendly and easy to get ahold of. The location is the absolute best part. The cabin is secluded and quiet. We left the windows open day and night and enjoyed the mountain air and natural sounds. The views are beautiful. We barely scratched the surface on the many hiking trails nearby. We will most definitely rent this cabin again if given the opportunity!

We’ve been doing this for years. It was our 46 anniversary. By far the best cottage we’ve rented. We both enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets. Watching the birds and the squirrels and chipmunks listening to. listening to the owls. The cabin, on arrival was very very clean. You felt like you were at home as you were entered the cabin, well supplied with everything that you might need when you enjoy the campfires . Although it rained with a covered porch. it was very pleasant.we will definitely stay again .

Secluded, peaceful setting. Plenty of room and well equipped. They are very responsive and will assist immediately if needed. We will be back.
Driveway is intense with some treacherous parts. We used our 4 wheel drive, so just be aware. You could not have low lying vehicle or tall vehicle due to tree branches. It was part of the adventure, but very helpful to have our Jeep.

Very secluded and quiet. Well appointed and very comfortable house with everything you could need. Lovely outdoor space including a hot tub with an awesome view.
Only caveat is the driveway which is quite steep. 4wd recommended

Beautiful cabin at a quiet place on top of a hill.
My kids had a great time during our stay, loved the hot tub! My dog had a great time too.
The owners were prompt with our queries, called us to check how we were doing, suggested a few nice places to visit. Really appreciate it. Looking forward to visiting again!

My children and I were stranded for hours in the dark when my SUV got stuck in the snow. When we finally made it to the cabin, the heat didn’t work and the space heater would trip the circuit when plugged in. I'm glad we didn't try to start a fire in the fire place because it was jammed and the cabin would have filled with smoke.
The owners were kind enough to contact a neighbor who helped us get out of there. BUT when I asked them to write a letter to help me recover some of what I paid via my travel insurance, they said no.
It was supposed to be a multiple day stay and they didn’t offer to refund anything. My children reported having nightmares and got counseling after the ordeal.

The cabin is well isolated in a deeply wooded area that is great for hikers, fishermen, kayaking, rafting, or for anyone that wants to get away for awhile. Our only regret was that we had to leave a day early due to a storm that came through, taking down trees and knocking out the power lines.

We wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world and we found our solitude at this amazing cabin. Our host were very friendly and polite and even gave us recommendations on a great town to go to. We went and it was great. The cabin is perfect for a get away. We even took our 14 year old and he loved it.

Very nice cabin deep in the mountain. Very quiet and clean. Owners were very polite and always just a phone call away.

Our experience was a pleasant one. Cozy cabin atop your own little mountain top with views of mountains in the distance while enjoying the hot tub! Great for dogs to run around! Bed was comfortable, kitchen although tight and narrow was well stoked even with a fresh new sponge, wonderfully decorated for Christmas, and loved having hot tub on the porch with cover so we can enjoy while it was raining. Only cons I can think of is The hot tub would be challenging to get in for some due to no step to get in, and maybe add some labels for power switches and heaters. Can’t wait to come back!

I wanted a very private weekend getaway with my wife for our anniversary, and this place exceeded all our expectations. Total seclusion, did not see or hear a sign of other humans for 3 days. No neighbors, no road noise, just squirrels and lovely wild birds. It was 15 degrees at night and the wood stove and hot tub provide decadent warmth and cozy warm cabin. We never even went upstairs but would like to come back with the kids in 2023 when it's warmer weather for the rafting adventures close by. Hat tip to the hosts - we had such a wonderful weekend THANK YOU!

This was our second time staying at this cabin and we cannot wait to keep coming back. This cabin has everything you need and more. Dan and Sheyla are amazing hosts and are easily accessible if needed. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for privacy, amazing views, and a little break from reality. Thank you for hosting us again and we can’t wait to come back to stay in the future.

Where to even start?! This cozy cabin is an absolute dream! I have never been to a place I felt so instantly at home. This was exactly the trip he needed! We stayed 3 full days and it wasn’t long enough to enjoy the area and the property- we wished we had more time!
There was truly nothing Dan and Shelia didn’t think of for their cabin. The birds eating at the bird feeders were just an added treat to having our morning coffee on their porch overlooking the mountains. They had everything you could want in a home away from home. Thank you so much for making this our favorite vacation. The cabin and property was everything and more. We cannot wait to come back!

This was our third visit and we love the views, quiet location and cozy comfort of this cabin. If you want to get away but still be close to restaurants and recreational activities, this is your place. Cabin is very well supplied and hosts are very responsive.

To say I was impressed by the cabin at the of the mountain would be a vast understatement. The cabin itself is a template of what every base of operations should be...Charming...well constructed...quality of workmanship.....there was no detail overlooked. From the hot tub...to the fire pit...a gas grill and smoker...the outside have every amenity one could hope for...but the star of the show...the expansive mountain top view was picture post card perfect in autumn splendor. The location t the entry to the Nantahala Gorge was wild and untamed outdoors and much like Bartram found it in 1776. Obviously I could go on...and one...suffice it to say I highly recommend and hope to stay on the many trips I hope to take here in the future. Only caution....the road to the top can be a bit treacherous...but low gear and abundance of caution make it well worth ones while. Five stars plus...thanks Dan and Sheyla for make you home available to us all!
