Honestly I liked everything
the place was great, the staff was awesome and could speak english, the food was tasty and plentiful, the room was amazing
It was the first leg of our trip and we wanted to start in style... was not disappointed
We chose kinosaki mainly because we were visiting Kyoto and were looking for outdoor tattoo friendly onsen
the private onsen at the ryonkan is big enough for couple bath
Shops close at 4:30pm, so luckily we had booked dinner at the ryonkan
no mixed bath
About kinosaki itself, it's nothing compared to the huge outdoor natural hot springs I went to in my last trip near Nagano (where they also had mixed bath)
so i was a bit disappointing about that, but still it was the best compromise I could get about location and tattoo problem

Beautiful spaces within the hotel. Close to the train station, less than a 10 minute walk up the road. Provided yukata, shoes, towels and scrubs for onsen hopping. Had a room with it's own toilet, which is great. Dinner and breakfast were an exceptional experience, with a great presentation. Polite, welcoming servers. Guests (groups) are seated at their own reserved table thus maintaining a personalised experience for your group. In general, staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Even the check-in and check-out procedures were formal yet handled delicately, which felt luxurious.
Wished I stayed an extra night. No "views" outside their windows. Not much variety in Yukata that is provided, but did the job.

Our room, room 102, was wonderful. Tradiionally Japanese but with a comfortable bed and a gorgeous modern bathroom.
The staff at this hotel is stellar. When I had to miss dinner one night due to a head cold, they brought me a deliiouus bowl of hot udon soup. I did not request it -- they just showed up. So kind and thoughtful.
We liked it all!

The food was good. The room was big. The staffs were friendly.
Comparing to other onsen hotels in Japan that I had stayed, this one was not as "grand". At the price that they are charging, I expected more. Their in house bath house may not be onsan water and was very small.

Food was great. Though I’d recommend booking only one night, the second night the food was less good. I think the wow dishes are kept for the first night.
Japanese rooms were still a bit dated, for this price.

The Dinner and breakfast was the best! The staff help us out when we needed something done and also fitted us into traditional Japanese clothing. It was a different experience in Japan but everyone should atl east do it once in their life!
Hotel was pricy but that was our issue because we went on the weekend and all the other hotels were booked but we don't regret staying at the Kinosaki Onsen Ryokan Tsubakino.

A traditional hotel with lovely finishings and great location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The dinner and breakfast were excellent.
The futons were not very comfortable - possibly they could get thicker ones.

Location, ambience, staff, private onsen and an amazing dining experience.

Amazing experience all around. Traditional ryokan room, spacious, cozy, super sumptuous multi course meals, yukata rental, onsen pass, and attention to detail. Plus an art gallery by one of the employee’s grandfathers! A wonderful treat.
the bed mattress was too thin for side sleeping. I have sleep apnea and need to sleep on my side.

Authentic japanese experience. At least I think so. Beautiful hotel. Dinner and breakfast were really good. Very elaborate and plantiful.
Nothing I didn't like, just a warning that to get to our room, there were a lot of up and down steps. People with mobility issues may have problems. Room only included toilet and a sink. Again, not a negative, I knew about it in advance. Shower is at Onsen area that is common. So, for me it was unique authentic experience that is wanted.

I incredibly like the layout and the simplicity + private nature of the rooms. The people working there were incredible to talk to and made everything incredibly easy. The food was delicious and they made special accommodations if you needed it
Nothing, everything went amazing.

Dinner and breakfast were delicious and great, with exceptionally good service from the staff. Once checked in, a free onsen pass is given to try the 7 public onsens around Kinosaki.
The accommodation itself also has an public onsen for customers to use!

Place was close to the train station and nice and quiet. Staff were super kind and helpful, even noticed it was close to my cousin's birthday and gave her a gift. Food was good and was easy to get to the other onsens. Good ryokan experience!
There was slight marks on the walls of the room and the futon was slightly hard, Annex was a little bit of a walk inside to the rest of the building but nothing too much.

Food was great, the staff was very hospitable. The ryokan itself is beautiful too, I love the art everywhere. Right next door to one of the public onsen, but the ryokan’s own small communal bath is also nice! I wish I had stayed for more than one night, we were a little rushed trying to hit all the onsen so we didn’t end up spending much time in the room. Also while there are colorful yukata available to rent, the ryokan’s “house” yukata were also nice. We were provided with enough outer layers to stay warm in the early spring weather.
