The online listing doesn't do this amazing little cottage justice. It is clean, cozy, and the view is gorgeous. Its like being out in the woods....but you are not! The cottage is decorated so cute and it has all the comforts of home. The deck is so relaxing and it even has an immaculate gas grill and a firepit. Laura is an amazing host. If this were my property I would live there full time. I was so sad to leave!

Directions to the property and description were very accurate. Parking was tricky but as described. The outside area was very peaceful and enjoyable. The floors seemed sticky in the bathrooms and the refrigerator was quite dirty with half melted ice cream in the freezer. Otherwise it was clean. My only complaint would be the dog dishes and used dog toys. Having used dog dishes and used dog toys makes you worry about spreading viruses such as parvo. A very nice gesture to offer these for the guests! But something to consider. We really did enjoy staying there and would definitely consider the home in the future

My mother and I stayed in this small home for 2 nights. It was clean and comfortable, and while I didn’t mind the house and rooms at all, it was not a great fit for my mother who is 82. The staircase is very narrow and doesn’t have a railing- and she was nervous going down the street since the house is secluded by the many trees around it. In addition, the portable AC units were fine since the area is shaded, but my mother thought they were too loud and wanted them off at night. I would definitely stay there again, but with a younger family.

Quiet peaceful, and relaxing for our short stay in PA. Very accommodating for us and our fur baby!

Loved the house! The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. There was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The back deck was beautiful with lots of birds and squirrels to watch. Wifi connection was strong and easy to connect to.
As others have mentioned, the actual driveway down by the house is a bit tricky to get out of. Parking in the driveway on arrival is easy, whether you back in or face forward. It's getting out that's difficult. We ended up pulling in facing forward so that we could back out to leave. To do this, when first arriving at the house from Terrace Avenue, we made a slight right turn into the driveway pulling forward towards the fence. Then we backed up to reposition the car to drive straight towards the house with the car facing forward in the driveway. When leaving, we backed up straight onto Terrace Avenue, then straight forward to drive away. It was very easy doing it this way versus backing in on arrival. There is zero traffic on Terrace Avenue because it's essentially a private road with only a few houses.
The only other thing to make note of are the stairs in the house. The house is older and the stairs are very narrow and steep. The bedroom and the loft/trundle bed are upstairs so the only way to go to bed is to take the stairs. The full bath and shower are downstairs which means we ended up using the stairs a lot during our stay.
Overall, we had an enjoyable stay in this getaway house near Pittsburgh.

Seemless checkin and checkout, impeccable communication from the host, and a great house for our stay in Pittsburgh! Definitely will consider renting this place again for future visits to see my family in Pittsburgh.

The location was great for us. We felt like we were in the woods versus the city. Enjoyed our visits from the deer each day.

Had a great time (once we found it). Very private and secluded. Neighbors were very friendly. We felt at ease and safe. Our dog loved it. My only complaint I have is there is not a lot of room to let the dog loose, but I knew this in advance. Thanks for letting us stay.

Many places advertise they are dog-friendly but really just mean they allow your dogs to accompany you; the Carnegie Cottage truly welcomes your pups. Dog bowls were waiting with a little welcome treat as well as a blanket and toys for them. The patio also had a lead so they could explore the yard freely. As this is a typical Pittsburgh house ( I would know since I grew up very close to here), a senior dog may have an issue with the steepness of the steps but my 13 year old boxer did fine as long as I was in front or in back of here. An additional plus is that Carnegie Park is very close by. We walked our dogs there in the morning and discovered a dog park there- what an unexpected treat! The location is fantastic! Easy access to the highways that lead to the city as well as suburbs but the house is surrounded by a wooded area so you would never know how close you are. We would definitely stay here again!

Clean, owner is very easy to work with and makes everything as nice as possible!!

Our stay was to help our son who is moving to the area with home renovations. We didn't spend much time at the house other than coming home at the end of the day and cleaning up. It was nice that we could bring our dog, and we felt comfortable in the space with him. The weather was rainy, but the back porch looked like a great space to hang out if it had been nicer.

Very unexpected; secluded oasis in the middle
of the city. Hidden gem!
Peaceful camp like experience (outside)
with the added bonus of sleeping in a house!
Driveway is as described and should be heeded.
A bit tricky but maneuverable.
However, what tops all of that is Laura allowing our fur babies to be with us!!
Great experience!

We were in town as our son is graduating from Allegheny College and he was checking out the neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. This was a great access site without having to go through downtown Pittsburgh. Thank you for your hospitality and sharing your hideaway in the hills with us.

We stayed in the Cottage due to the birth of our first grandchild and because we didn't exactly know when she'd enter this world we were in Pittsburgh for a few weeks. We chose the cottage after spending 2 weeks in a hotel which was not ideal and we had our 2 Labrador Retrievers with us. The cottage was just what we were looking for. a clean home with a nice layout close to our daughter that didn't break the bank. It is hard to find accommodations for 2 larger dogs (ours are 65lbs each). the hotel was very restrictive but the cottage allowed us to spread out a bit more and both provided a nice place to stay but a separate work area for me. I couldn't recommend this more for dog owners. 1) the owner did not lay down a ridiculous number of rules (our dogs are very well behaved and well trained) 2) it was close to a very nice dog park where we ran them almost every day 3) it was very quiet and almost secluded 4) it was reasonably priced. The accommodations were good, the bed comfortable, the water hot and the full kitchen allowed us to prepare some decent meals (had a nice grill too). Many reviews cite the street and the driveway as difficult. We did a dry run to evaluate it the day before we moved in and after a couple of days it was easy peasy. I highly recommend backing into the driveway then backing up the street then turning around. it feels weird the first time you do it but then you get used to it. Laura was a great host as well and very accommodating.

This was a great house for us to stay in while visiting family in the area. The view is beautiful, and its very peaceful. The space was very clean, and the host was wonderful about our fragrance sensitivities. The kitchen is fully functional for cooking our own meals or storing and reheating leftovers. There's a small yard for the dog to run around in, but the neighborhood is also nice for walking. The only things to be mindful of are that this is a very hilly area, so the driveway takes a little practice turning into from the road (but the host provides great directions!), and the stairs in the house are very steep -as shown in the pictures. Laura was a wonderful host for our stay and we will be happy to stay here again for future visits!

The house has nice amenities, and the gas fire place proved to be needed since the house would get chilly at times. Appreciated how close it was to the dog park and Pittsburgh (everything was 15 mins drive or under). As others mentioned, the stairs are a bit wonky (narrow/slanted), but it's an old house so that's what you get. My husband and I appreciated spending a quiet Christmas weekend here.

Cute cottage. You get the feel of being in the country but have access to everything in the city.

We really loved our stay at this property. The location was perfect, secluded but still close enough tontown to get out and do things (we went to the Strip and a Pens game). We got to see lots of birds and squirrels that came to the back porch to eat seeds, and even had 3 deer just come and lay down in the yard. I was able to prepare a meal there with ease, as everything i needed was there. My dog really enjoyed the dog toys that were out for him also. He also liked tunning thru the keaves on the hillside and meeting the 2 neighbor dogs. Overall, this is very much a cozy cottage and would highly recommend this property. 10/10😁

Spent several days while visiting family in the area over Thanksgiving holiday. Very comfortable, well-equipped and nicely furnished cottage in a quiet neighborhood on a hill overlooking Carnegie, PA. Nice outdoor space but a little chilly to enjoy it. Very pet friendly!

Love the Carnegie area because it’s so easy to get to the city, and this cottage in its woodsy setting makes it feel like you’re secluded but you’re so close to everything, including Carnegie’s downtown. Love that they allow you to have pets stay too. Deck on back is super cute and cozy.

Quaint, cozy, comfortable cabin nestled in the woods with all of the amenities and more. We had a beautiful buck visit and he rested by the side wall for quite a while. I wish I could attach his picture - truly amazing for any animal lovers. Close by many of the things we wanted to do in the Pittsburgh area. We had a wonderful time and look forward to visiting again.

Nice 2 floor little house. No traffic. Great home base for my visitation excursions.

Great Deck with a secluded feel. Cabin worked great for back and forth trips to the downtown convention center for a tournament for my son.

Great wooded location within walking distance of Carnegie and a short drive across the river into Pittsburgh. We saw deer daily and the backporch was great to enjoy the peaceful surroundings-truly felt like you were in a comfortable lake house but with the city at your fingertips. The only caveat I would add is that as others have noted, the narrow stairs may be challenging for older guests. Laura was a very informative host and easy to work with and the house was just as described.

Very cozy property. There are some small drawbacks but nothing that takes away is charm. As others have stated, if you are unfamiliar with Pittsburgh streets, you may be a little uncomfortable on the drive there. The driveway is tricky, took a few attempts to get out one day. The house was nice and cool set among the trees. Beds were comfy. No over the top checkout rules which is getting rarer.

This is a wonderful place to stay if you are ever in the Pittsburgh area. Very private and surrounded by woods making you feel like you're in the country yet the downtown area with stores and great restaurants is a quick walk away. The area is hilly though so you'll get your workout! Laura is a great host and made our pup feel welcome with treats, toys, and food and water bowls. We will definitely use again if we are back in the area!

Quaint cottage tucked away in the trees, with private road. We were in town for a paintball tournament, and the location was perfect! Ideally situated 20 mins to the game and a quick 15 mins to downtown or the Southside. We brought our two dogs and I was SO happy to see the owner's mutual love of animals! She donates a portion of her proceeds to animal rescues. First time I've seen that at a vrbo and it was truly heart-warming! Thoughtful ammenities throughout the home- well stocked fridge and coffee! King sized bed with a comfortable mattress-another first! Great AC (which the puppos appreciate). Cute side yard with fire pit. Plenty of linens. One thing to note- if you are bringing dogs, there are some very local deer! My dog is a husky mix and he tends to be very prey driven- the exchange between him and the deer (who was not remotely impressed by his shenanigans), was pretty comical. Also, we have lived in Pittsburgh before so we are familiar with the crazy hills. The driveway is abit hard to navigate, being somewhat steep and gravel. To be fair, my tires are bald! If you're not accustomed to the Pittsburgh terrain, park on the street. All in all- great, economic, stay in an ideal location. We will be back!

It felt private even though surrounded by homes but the trees provided seclusion.
Others have commented on the parking. We found it best to back into driveway. When leaving you’ll need to do a k- turn going forward then back a bit, turn then out. As long as your front wheels stay on the road you should have traction and remember to NOT turn right to go down hill as your car will bottom out.
It was a comfortable home to stay in. It’s very old but fairly well kept up.

This is a quiet place to stay and you can bring your furbabies with you too! My dogs absolutely loved watching bird/squirrel TV (the birds/squirrels would eat food by the deck and once my pups noticed it, they watched them all the time!). This place was in a convenient location and easy access to Pittsburgh. I would definitely stay again.

My wife and I attended a concert in Pittsburgh and had a very nice stay in the cottage. Terrace Ave and the driveway are quite tight, but we were provided very clear directions for getting safely to the cottage. The trade-off is a cottage that feels very secluded while being right in town. The king bed was very comfortable. We would certainly consider staying here again on a return trip to the area.

We were looking for a pet-friendly property with a kingsize bed, outdoor firepit, great kitchen and room to have folks over to play games; this checked all those boxes. PROS: Very clean, charming old house with spacious, comfy, well-furnished rooms including a fully stocked, modern kitchen. 1.5 bathrooms. Large backyard w/ firepit & patio porch - gorgeous view. Secluded, safe, quiet neighborhood, close to highway. Two AC units kept place perfectly cool in 90 degree heat & humidity - aided by shady tree canopy. Owners provided welcome basket for dogs with lots of treats. OF NOTE (cons for us - might not be for others): steep gravel driveway tricky for those not used to parking on/ navigating Pgh hills. Indoor staircase also very steep & tricky for older dogs - and their older humans with bad knees. Gaps in window screens = buggy. Bathroom w/ shower is on first floor. Nice TVs but took us awhile to figure them out. Birdfeeders attract a lot of woodsy wildlife right outside, including deer, birds, squirrels, chipmunks and other less popular rodents.

Would highly recommend. The house was very clean and the description was spot on. The area was quiet (considering the location) and secluded. We also met the neighborhood deer a few times lol! We made another reservation for later this year before we even left.

What a lovely cottage! We had a great time. The quick trip to the city was easy. When we stayed in Carnegie, there were plenty of quality local restaurants.

Laura was quick to respond to any questions I had about the rental. The location was a short 16 min car or Uber ride to Pittsburg for a concert we were there to see. We did meet the Uber drivers at the top of the street. As it is a little tricky to get to, and did not want them getting stuck. Our only complaint would be that there needs to be a sofa couch in the living room. The sleeping areas are right next to each other and the other couple was forced to sleep on 2 twin beds, (trundle day bed) that we thought was actually a futon. Other than that, perfect! We would totally book again if in the area!
