They did have a slight temporary issue with a bad smell from the drains due to some exceptional rain

The lady at reception on arrival was friendly and cannot be faulted and the rooms had pleasant views from the small windows. The common areas were cosy and attractive and the housekeeping in the rooms was good.

Our two queen-bed attic rooms (which we booked as singles) could have accommodated a couple and were just about adequate for the high season price paid, but both the bathrooms were tiny with no surface, not even the smallest shelf, on which to put anything and the small, rickety wardrobe in room 43 would have served better in a junk shop. The buffet breakfast was poor value for money, mainly because at various times items ran out and were not replaced leaving long gaps. Fruit salad was available in a small bowl, enough for about four guests, so with at least 20 pax down to breakfast at any one time, one had to be quick, unless one wanted one of the rock-hard pears in the other fruit bowl that were there for three days running. On our last morning (Monday) it was so bad that at 08h45 when we arrived in the breakfast room there was no ham, no cheese, no boiled eggs, no apple juice and the packet croissants and pains au chocolat were not appetising enough to make a difference - and for ten minutes at least there was not a member of staff anywhere to be found in the adjacent service room. The harrassed Manager, who also then manned the front desk, did at least cancel the charge for that breakfast.

Very good location for visiting central Pau both for shopping and tourist attractions. Staff very helpful. Good lounge area. The hotel does not have dedicated parking but is 5 mins from the main public car park in Place Verdun. Aim for Place Verdun Sud. Parking fees just 3 Euro per day. The car park is well lit with cameras and is used by locals and visitors. Will probably get full in the hight of the tourist season so plan for alternative - ask the hotel by email and they will help you. Access to central Pau by road is reasonably easy.

Hotel provided a good continental breakfast but didn't offer evening meals otherwise a good central location.

Large, well resourced room with balcony. Good location for reaching all of the places of interest and restaurants. Very good breakfast with plenty of choice and fresh fruit.

There was nothing we would criticise and would go back again.

The hotel was completely satisfactory, it is a little bit dated and I hadn't realised before booking that it didn't have a bar or restaurant but this didn't matter as excellent bars and restaurants within easy walk. Breakfast was available and was good.

we were in the family room on the top floor and there was a continuous sound of either a big ventilator or engine just facing the window. although not very loud it was a regular vibrating sound.

The location is quiet and closed to everything to visit downtown Pau, AND with easy access. Also it is very easy to park the car very close to the hotel.

We did like the hotel a lot. Only it's to observe the standards that have evolved while developing the 21st century. It's to understand this kind hotel would not evolve to the last modern architecture trends, and it won't make sense. Being classic, Art Déco period, or some old British ambiance is nice to find (yet it's been some history of Pau with rich English families in vacation in the 20th earlies).

that huge family basement room is smelly, awkward, and cold. I get that I paid very little for it, but it was an unpleasant surprise. I’m getting much better rooms from other hotels for similar prices.

Splendid location in the centre of town. We were very lucky that the concierge arranged for us to park for free right outside the door. There is a pay car park 2 minutes walk away. Our room (4) was on the lower ground floor and was huge. It was set up for disabled guests and was a suite and very well equipped. The only downside was a poor WIFI connection which could only be obtained by standing by the open window. There was a good choice of foods for breakfast and the hotel is within a short walk of several restaurants.
