This was our second visit, we had a super room this time, big and well appointed. The breakfast buffet offered a good selection, we were ale to set ourselves up for the day. The location was convenient for bars and restaurants.

The only awkwardness was the change of level between the lift and the part of the third floor on which our room was located. There was no handrail on the first five or six steps, which made life difficult, especially when carrying luggage.

The hotel is centrally located, rooms were simple, quiet with very good beds. The bathroom was nice. Breakfast was very good. The hotel was good value.

Perfect location, easy access to trains and buses, to art gallery and the main street (Storgate) for shopping. The hotel itself has a gallery as well. Every room had pictures, probably copies, of artists who have stayed there in the early 20th century. Breakfasts were tremendous. Beds were very comfortable. Free tea and coffee in the lounge were a Godsend.

I really can't think of anything except for the TV was limited to 5 channels. But I don't go on holiday to watch television.

There is a lot to like. It's a venerable facility--125 years old, but with nice updates. The staff is unusually kind and accommodating. They seemed genuinely proud to be working in this historic hotel. The views from the rooms (I stayed in 2) are extraordinary. The breakfast is extensive and excellent. The location is perfect--close to the train station and also close to the center of town, with good shops and restaurants nearby.

I had to change rooms and take a more expensive upgrade, but that was not the hotel's fault, but rather problematic planning on my part. The staff at the front desk were gracious about working with me on this, though.

Excellent location in the town centre with easy access to lots of restaurants and shops in town. Also close to the station. The staff were very helpful and very pleasant. Easy and free parking was the main reason that we chose this hotel. Yes, the parking is free and easy to access. A petrol station is right next door. The bed was very comfortable but what is it with Scandinavian bed clothing? Why have two small duvets when one large one is more comfortable. They must freeze in the winter.

Breakfast was not as good as was mentioned in the reviews. It may have been good for Norwegians but for us the cereals were a bit lacking and the bacon and eggs were cold and overcooked. We have had a lot better in Norway and Denmark. We had a room on the second floor which was in a great location other than there was a smoking area directly below us so when we opened the windows (we we had to do as the hotel doesn't have air conditioning) we were inundated with cigarette smoke. So much for a non smoking room. The hotel is getting quite shabby. The hotel needs an urgent and complete refit including the very badly worn carpets. This time of year it doesn't get dark until after 11:00 pm but the curtains didn't quite cover the windows so sleeping was a bit difficult. The WiFi is relatively fast but we had to sign back in every day on all our devices. That was a bit of a frustration.

This old hotel felt very homy and cozy, with a nice relaxation room to sit by the fireplace with a cup of coffee or tea. Besides, the breakfast was very nice and diverse. I highly recommend this hotel!

Friendly staff and a great breakfast buffet.

I wished the trast bucket would be changer every day.
