A wonderful historic building in the centre of Southwell. Beautiful panelled dining room. Excellent breakfast. Very good car park. When we arrived an oil filed radiator was on in the room, making it pleasantly warm. The staff were very friendly and efficient.
I had investigated how to arrive at the hotel car park using google maps since the route in is just after a one way street. So I knew what I was looking for. Yet the signage was almost non-existent and I found myself in the wrong car park. Added to this is the appalling road/track with the biggest pothole I have experienced. DRIVE CAREFULLY- you could lose a wheel especially in the dark!

Cooked Breakfast , although meagre portions (1of each item, spoonful of beans) was good. Nice fruit selection.
Extremely uncomfortable , old, mattress in my room. No water pressure so rain-fall shower impossible to use. Hand shower dribbled out. No-one to mention this to as reception un-manned.

Good Atmosphere
Lack of anywhere to hang anything in the bedroom.

Duvets too hot.

We have been before so knew what to expect. The hotel is situated right in the town centre and is convenient for shops and Minster. The welcome was good and the room clean and comfortable. We had drinks and dinner in the evening and it was good, with pleasant and timely service.
Just prior to booking out we found a cleaner in the room who had put some of our stuff in to a bin. She realised her mistake and apologised (we still had our key), but this should not have happened.

Good location. Right in the centre of Southwell and next door to an amazing Deli
Extremely overpriced for a dated and tatty hotel. Thankfully we only stayed one night
Our room faced onto the main road and we expected some noise but the windows were so bad we may as well have slept outside.
Room was dated, tatty and not cared for. Bathroom had hand soap but no toiletries. Shower was like standing under a broken gutter

Very clean, good location for us in the town, parking onsite.
Very old decor and furniture etc.
Shower head didnt fit in its holder so couldn't have a proper shower
Dinner booking was set for wrong time.
Some staff were not very friendly

it is a charming building in a central location in this small town.
I was surprised to find that there was no wardrobe or hanging space in my otherwise comfortable room. Nor were there any toothmugs or tissues. And having to use a handheld shower was an inconvenience. I can understand that the building does not lend itself to a lift but I found this a drawback. I was also surprised that the hotel was not open for dinner - I can understand closing up for the winter but this was the weekend after Easter.

This place clearly has a lot of history and was in a good location for my trip.
The room was very tired and smelt pretty bad.

reception was very welcoming
breakfast was excellent and waitress service very friendly and efficient
Facilities could have been- better - e.g. coffee/tea in room were basic and there was no hotel bar or evening food.
Shower was very poor with only a dribble of water coming out.

Beautiful, historic building.

Staff were great, and welcoming. Breakfast and evening meal excellent. Parking good.
Bar closes at 8pm. No cupboard in room. Very small TV. I expect better from a room coasting £154.

The hotel is situated well, in the middle of Southall and is comfortable accommodation of historic interest. We were made welcome and as the restaurant was not open, given advice on where to eat. There were several options within two minutes walking distance.
Breakfast was very good and the staff were very pleasant.
Unfortunately, like most hotels at the moment, especially at this time of year, they are having problems with staff sickness and difficulty in finding people who wish to work in the industry. Due to this, the bar and restaurant were not open whilst we were there. However the staff available were helpful and courteous. They are doing their best and heating rooms individually, presumably to cope with the increase in heating bills at present.
A general comment for Booking. com is that it would be good, when choosing a hotel, if there was a category which stated that their parking is private to them and not, as seems to be the case now for most hotels, just that there is parking available.

my wife were immigrating and needed a local hotel to spend the night as the movers had come to take our furniture but we were not leaving until the next day so it’s location was ideal as we could walk to it. The room was very comfortable.
it is tired even though it is trying to be historical. In our bathroom we had a tub with a spray nozzle, but the shower assembly had been disassembled. The water was somewhat warm, but not hot. the heat was provide by a space heater and not the radiators due to the cost of energy crisis. We could not sit in the bar because the door on the wood burning stove was broken and therefore was filled with smoke. The biggest issue was that getting a glass of water seems to be an issue. The bar only served super expensive glass bottles of water and at breakfast (which was very good) the next morning I asked the staff twice for a glass of water and it was very quiet and regardless none appeared. What’s more the room unlike most other premium rooms (we had a suite) had no complimentary bottles of water, only the tap.

Our room was gorgeous with wood panelling and a four poster bed. Breakfast options seem to have increased since previous stays. It's very easy to park by the hotel, which is right in the middle of Southwell. The hotel has a lovely traditional feel to it and we keep coming back when we visit the area to see family.
Rooms on the main street can be a little noisy until about 10.30 pm.

The service from Debbie at reception was great, from checkin through all our stay she gave us great support with few things we needed. Very friendly and willing to help very kindly. Nice historic hotel, rooms where nice, clean and warm.
The shower had a little leak and it was just bothering to see the waste of water little by little, but it didn't spill into the floor thou.

very little
property was falling to pieces, plywood on bathroom door front and back, laminate falling off bathroom door, no hot water on 1st evening, shower was ridiculous, leaked water all over bathroom floor, making it extremely hazardous. needs new windows, no wardrobe, only 2 hanging spaces on coat hook only. nobody on reception, restaurant closed. bar closes at 8.

My Husband & I spent the night of our first wedding anniversary at The Saracens Head, Southwell.
What a beautiful hotel and David looked after us fantastically and even upgraded us to the Kings Suite.
We had the most wonderful stay and we would highly recommend you book that visit...There are not many places I would return as there are so many places to visit however, I can't rate this property and the team highly enough and we will definitely book again to stay.
We loved every aspect of this stay!

After reading some reviews on this site and others I was a bit apprehensive prior to our arrival. That apprehension was totally unfounded. The Saracens Head has clearly struggled post COVID, with reduced restaurant/bar opening hours and staff retention. The reception staff couldn't have been more warm and friendly, even offering a cup of tea on arrival. There were issues with the heating but the owner had provided a portable oil filled electric heater and the room was nice and toasty throughout, even with an overnight temp of 3 degrees. The room and en-suite were clean and full of the character you would expect of a 14th Century Inn. Breakfast was very nice, with a choice of hot dishes, toast, cereals, fruit and juices and croissants. All served by attentive staff. My wife and I couldn't fault the stay to be honest.
It would have been nice to have the option to have an evening meal in the hotel, but there were other places to eat in the town.
