Prachtige locatie met bijzonder mooi uitzicht. Gezellig ingericht huis met daarin alles wat je nodig hebt.

If treated with care it could become a jewel

I have been using Booking for over ten years, I have about a hundred overnight stays and this is the first time I have escaped from a structure. It's truly impossible to believe that this house has an average rating of 9. As soon as we entered we were assaulted by the smell of humidity and dust. The house has few windows and it is impossible to create adequate air exchange. The owners know this, because they have left an old and dusty dehumidifier which, however, cannot do much (see photo of the walls devoured by humidity). But the worst thing is the cleanliness, or the lack of: the house is full of things that the user doesn't need and which haven't been cleaned for years (I have photos for all, but can't post here as there's a limit) and which create a really heavy atmosphere. During the night my wife and my son, asthmatic and allergic, were sick to the point of needing inhalers to be able to breathe. I was also scared that they could need medical attention in such an isolated place. In the morning of course I packed my things, took my family and left. I kindly asked the owner for a refund of the two unused nights, but he turned a deaf ear, indeed he stated that the conditions of the house had been communicated to me. What conditions? The humidity and the dust? The neglect of the house? (see photo of the broken shower latch, mold in the shower, encrusted grilles...). The uncomfortable beds? The unusable dirty sofa? The broken lamps outside? I hope after my review the condition are clear for future users. Worst travel experience EVER.

The Barsonera is situated in a remote area 10-15 minutes by car from the center of Hermigua. The location is excellent for travelers who plan to hike in the Garajonay park yet want to be close to good restaurants. The house is well equipped, with a complete kitchen, comfortable beds, a comfortable living room, good wifi, a television, and different places to eat indoors and outdoors. There are nice views out over the canyon. We never saw the owners but they were so kind and extremely responsive by WhatsApp and gave us loads of tips for our stay. They also left snacks, which were extremely useful since we arrived at 10:30pm the first night, after a cancelled flight from Tenerife and a long bus/boat ride to La Gomera.

The half-kilometer uphill dirt access road that connects the Barsonera to the narrow, curvy paved highway below can be viewed as a plus or minus. The "plus" is that it helps preserve the isolated charm of the site. Our taxi driver would not take us to the door of the house, however. This was rather inconvenient, since we arrived late at night in the rain! I personally was not bothered by the millipedes that invade houses in La Gomera and El Hierro. They are fairly easy to control, with a good broom. Comes with the turf (with living in the country). Once we swept the floors and walls we didn't have much of an issue and the millipedes are not really a hazard. Travelers who might be bothered by such things (I repeat: I was not!) should keep this in mind, however.

A very picturesque location, a well-presented, immaculately clean and cared for property, very hospitable owners. We would probably like the property even more if we rented it in summer/autumn.

The property is solar-powered with a diesel engine backup. Green energy is great, but only if there's enough of it. In winter (and I guess, in spring) the house could feel quite cold and wet, and there's not much that could be done about it - no heaters of any kind. Washing and ironing are pretty difficult, for both require the generator to be started, and, unfortunately, it's not powerful enough.

Very nice views. Authentic local house. There are everything you need for holidays. very nice terraces.
