The staff where lovely but there was work needed in the rooms. It was generally clean with nice fresh bedding. However our shower cubicle had mould on the silicon sealant and the paint work generally could do with a refresh. We only had breakfast, but that was nice.

The property was so dirty that i did not stay for the night, the smell, the rigged carpet and it's filled with cigarette smoke, we left there to book for another hotel, what's on the website is not what is on the property, this is a scam, i will make sure i get my money back, i couldn't stay there, it was too bad.

The pull cord in the bathroom broke and the valve in the toilet was constantly filling

Small room .Great breakfast . They charge way too much for what they offer .No body wash in the shower. Small TV with few channel . Needs improvements !

It was ok, nice enough stay just was quite finessed.

The guys at reception gave a warm welcome and helped with the bags to our room. Room was basically fine however the kettle could have done with a better clean. Decoration of the room was a little tired, but probably fine for most guys. The full English Breakfast was very good, well cooked and quality produce. My wife is gluten free, so had no alternatives such as porridge. Made do with some bacon and egg. The evening meal was also very good, but with a busy restaurant, service was a little slow. Not long re-opened so that might be why. A lack of ice for drinks was a little surprising, but more was sourced and all was made good. Would stay again, but will take ear plugs as the bedroom walls are quite thin.

Confirmed the reservation immediately. Even though the check in timing was 10pm, the front manager agreed to extend it a little to allow me to arrive on time. The breakfast that was included for the price was incredible. I highly recommend this hotel!

The person on reception tried to be helpful, but the staff seemed lacking in knowledge. My wife has a milk allergy, which we informed the hotel of beforehand & told ‘no problem’. There was no non-dairy milk made available, until the 2nd day of our stay. The restaurant staff didn’t understand what a vegan is and was offering yoghurt & eggs for breakfast! The toilet flush & main light in the bathroom were broken. On the first morning we had to go to town for breakfast as they could not really offer anything palatable. The walls were paper thin in our room, so much so, the lovely couple next door were making our headboard bounce! So, overall not the ‘outstanding experience, the Hotels.com rating indicated…!

All staff were very friendly & helpful from reception, restaurant to breakfast room. Room was a little dated but served its purpose for a nights stay. Evening meal in the restaurant was very tasty and breakfast was sufficient

A convenient place for my stay. Friendly welcome. Room was very tired and in need of redecoration. Kitchen vent under my window which was noisy and smelly. Breakfast no more than adequate.

We Booked 2 rooms for work, The guys reported that the cleanliness wasn't great , Dated rooms, They had problems with lights in both rooms,

My only comment would be the fire doors on the landings could do with being soft-shutting (even by having rubber pads stuck on the doorposts) as they bang shut every time anyone goes through them.

I wasn’t expecting the restaurant to be phenomenal. I book budget hotels every week for work and have grown to expect mediocre food. However I arrived at this place and was met by really friendly staff, a nice room (it’s not the ritz, but I had nothing to complain about at all) and me and my staff went down to the restaurant and had the best food I’ve ever had in a hotel! It was so nice, all home made and made well! The staff were so lovely as well. Put it this way, I’ve never left a review in my life, but it was such an amazing stay, I felt I HAD to leave a review this time.

We stayed at Hotel 281 and were very disappointed. We requested 2 quiet rooms as we had seen reviews where kitchen noise was an issue. I asked about this again when we checked in. The rooms allocated were very noisy from early evening with the music from the empty bar and restaurant, the constant drone of the fans and the noise from other guests. None of us slept well. The plumbing is an issue, the toilets don’t flush properly and take forever to refill so you hear a constant trickling. The bathrooms need a deep clean and damaged fittings repaired. The hot water isn’t very hot, I was able to run a shallow bath without adding any cold water and it was still tepid. Didn’t try the shower as the water pressure was so low. There is an overpowering smell of air freshener plug ins everywhere, not great for asthmatics Ignore the menu completely. Breakfast was terrible, we had deliberately chosen the hotel as it offered a vegetarian mix breakfast, only to be told in the morning that the only vegetarian option was beans, hash browns and fried eggs. The ‘full English’ was not as advertised, no mushrooms or tomatoes. Don’t be fooled by the fresh juice, it is cheap cordial Nobody on reception when we checked out. We were already late because of the delays at breakfast so we were unable to complain in person. We sent two emails to the hotel, both of which were ignored. We went through the booking agent but still hotel 281 refused to acknowledge the issues or apologise

Hotel is a little tired. Furnishings in room were old but serviceable. No plug in bathroom sink. However, the price paid was very reasonable. The breakfast was excellent. Bed was very comfy. Staff all went the extra mile and were very helpful and friendly.

Very clean and friendly staff and good service for Breakfast and Tea.

It was a great stay here,very comfortable and warm. Food freshly cooked,bacon sandwiches were awesome! Turkish meal in the restaurant was delicious and authentic. Staff could not help you enough, cant wait to stay again. Its worth mentioning that all rooms are upstairs and theres no lift.

Staff are very welcoming. Unfortunately on this occasion there were hairs around the bath and the desk had not been wiped down
