A propos de ce maisonrental
A Wonderful Peaceful Safe Location with History & Heritage in Royal Co Meath..

We had a wonderful stay at this Irish country house!! Spent the week with my family exploring Ireland. Smithstown house is in a quaint little countryside town outside of Dublin. You are in the country but never felt too outside the city. James is a lovely host!

Wonderful stay. James is a great host. The local village is an 8 minute drive with lots of restaurants and shops. The atmosphere is amazing. Cows and sheep as far as the eye can see. We loved it!

A peaceful and lovely place to stay outside of Dublin. The night sky was beautiful and clear (at least for 3 nights of our trip). Our group of six fit comfortable in the home. The taller members of the group especially loved the high ceiling bathroom on the 1st floor. The local town pub was much more enjoyable than the hectic crowded pubs in Dublin after a tiring day of sightseeing.
James is a very accommodating host, especially with our late night check in and early checkout. He made sure our stay was comfortable and was quick to respond to our questions.
Thanks so much James! Highly recommend your place for big groups, families or anyone who likes a warm, quiet place to sleep.

We had no trouble finding the home and we were greeted by our host James. He made sure we knew where everything was and even helped get our luggage inside. We had an easy place to park and the home was very large and comfortable for 4 adults and 2 teens. We love the town near by called Dunshaughlin. Many places to eat and get the best full Irish & Dirty Chai ever! Go to Plate & Pallet for sure! Americans - you need to know that you may have to hang dry your clothes so pack accordingly. This location was so perfect. Close to Dublin by car and the Boyne Valley has plenty to visit. Americans - Beds, Showers, Heating and Dryers are all very different so expect to be flexible in Ireland. Have fun!

We stayed a week at Smithstown House while we were attending a family wedding at nearby Killeen Castle. The location was perfect for us, easy to get to from Dublin airport and easy to get to the nearby towns of Trim and Dunshaughlin. James was a wonderful host, he made us feel very comfortable and was available at all times to answer our questions. Bolt the dog was an added bonus, he became our best friend and we had a wonderful time enjoying the large lawn at the back of the house.

Our stay was lovely though a quick rundown of how to turn on the power would have been very helpful.

/we had the pleasure of staying at this property during our time exploring Dublin and surrounding area. The home was very cozy, clean and had everything we needed for our time there. James was there to let us into the property and show us around...very pleasant to talk to and very informative. I would highly recommend this property

James seems like a very nice man. Not sure if we were the first booking of the season but the rooms were musty. The furnishings could use some updating. It may have been too rustic for my taste but others might find it charming if the mustiness was addressed.

The house was older and simply appointed. It had all necessary amenities. Beautiful and peaceful location. Lovely property. The landlord was kind and very attentive. Wonderful stay. It was out in the country, but only ten minutes from town.

What a lovely property! and James was available to answer questions and check us in (even though we arrived late). This house worked great for our small group but could see families using it as a getaway. Enjoyed the town of Dunshaughlin as well.

Very well appointed home in a country setting. Quiet, beautiful area. James was so kind . We got a little turned around coming down the road,be mindful, there are no numbers on homes. James came down and escorted us to the house . He even took my sister to the store for some groceries . The house was clean, we had plenty of towels and blankets. Kitchen was big and well supplied. Internet is spotty.. thanks ,James for a wonderful stay!

We had a lovely time at Dunsany, the host James was a great host, he ensured he was available at the property to welcome us in. The house was lovely and met our needs fully, we used this as a base for a few days at a concert in Dublin and were delighted with it. I would definitely book this again.

We arrived travel weary after a long flight, greatly appreciating James’ excellent written directions from the airport which took us straight in. Our immediate impression was of this delightful country estate on park-like lawns with blooming flowers pots and sheep grazing in the adjacent field. Friendly and accommodating James met us at the road and showed us the house, which was exactly as described. The rooms were charming and beautifully maintained. In addition, James has gone out of his way to anticipate the needs of his guests, including shampoo and conditioner and soaps, wash cloths and towels, extra drinking water and plenty of umbrellas. The Kitchen was huge and had everything we needed (we’re a family who loves to cook!), the upstairs bedrooms and living area were spacious, comfortable and well appointed. We also enjoyed Bolt, the adorable neighborhood dog, who greeted us every day. We rented a car and found the drive in to Dublin to be fairly simple to navigate. If you come to stay, definitely check out the mystical Hill of Tara just three miles from the house. A guided tour is free and truly wonderful if you’re interested at all in Irish history. Overall we just can’t say enough about how much we loved this property. Thank you James for being a truly attentive and fabulous host!

Historical area
There are so much history in Co Meath and the house is in the perfect location for all these sites visits . The house is adequate for us ( family of 5) , Avril / James are very responsive in all our queries and questions.

Charming 2 story guest cottage in the country
James is a true gentleman. He was very accommodating and helpful with our navigation of the transportation.
The property is lovely. There are games and tennis and badminton nets up in the back yard.
The kitchen is well equipped.
My only criticism would be regarding the up keep. The bathrooms could have been a bit cleaner and the towels were a bit small. No top sheet on the beds. Not sure if this is a European thing.
All in all a great 4 night stay.

Beautiful house and grounds
Wow the house and grounds are incredibly beautiful with views all around. My family loved seeing the sheep in the field & also horses across the way as well as playing on the swings & with the sports equipment. The house was perfect for us, loads of room & everything we could possibly need including stair gates. We were so thankful to have booked here as it was a little bit of calm away from the hustle of Dublin, but still near enough to visit.

Quaint pastorial setting
The property was a bit hard to find but lovely when we finally got there. James was very helpful and non-intrusive despite living next door. The kitchen was adequate, the beds and linens were nice and the sitting area was comfortable. The only negative was that the renters have no control of the heat. This left the bedrooms really warm and the downstairs (kitchen and bathroom) really cold. I think this was also why downstairs smelled a tad moldy. We would DEFINITELY recommend this location and will, hopefully, stay there again.

Quiet Country Property
James was an excellent host. The house is nice and is in a great area for viewing castles and many other sites and ruins in the Boyne valley area.

Comfortable house
James was very kind and attentive, every day of our stay. The house is large and comfortable, the heating works very well if you go for winter. the only thing is the location, which is away from everything, but if you go in your car or rent a vehicle you can go everywhere, come and go whenever you want! James was kind enough to drive us to and from the nearest town several times. If you work from home, like to watch movies or surf the Internet, I warn you that it will not be possible. because in the house there is an internet extension. (the main box is in the house next door, which is where James lives) and for this reason the signal sucks. We couldn't watch a movie or make video calls due to poor coverage... and one thing that caught our attention is that when we left the house, we left the curtains closed and when we came back they were already open. I personally do not agree that once you have rented a house or apartment, the owner can enter your privacy. in fact I rent my house in another country, and I have never entered the house while someone else is inside. Of the rest, we really liked the house, there are toys for children, bicycles, rackets, tennis court and the fields with wonderful views, the calm and silence. great for families!

Lovely country retreat for a family weekend

We do hope to return next year.

Four Days at Dunsany
This was a fine stay in a spacious, warm and well-equipped house in its own land. We were two couples and one daughter. The owner is friendly and accommodating. Handy for the airport but also for the many historic sites nearby, the coast and access to Dublin. Internet connection poor and intermittent. Also would be excellent for families with young children with great facilities in the rear garden.

Old heritage farm house stay-at-home simply fabulous
It is by all means the feeling of staying at a heritage farm house! Sense of serenity, country farms around, still very close to villages to find all you need, easy drive to highway and Dublin. Spacy house and large playground, perfect for kids. The host, Mr Beggan, also a very nice man.

Smithstown House
I booked Smithstown House as it was the nearest property to Dublin Airport that could accommodate six people easily. Everyone enjoyed their stay and although the property owner was unavailable, I was met by the lovely Avril. Avril gave me a quick tour of what was available in the house and a chat of what to do in the area., such as J O Connels bar, which is a very short drive from the house. If you need to have reliable broadband for work purposes, book somewhere else as the Wi Fi is a bit hit and miss. The gardens attached to the house are great and there are tennis rackets, badmington rackets, hockey sticks and a basketball net and ball to occupy your time outside, if you get the weather. If you like to pitch and put, I recommend you bring your own 9 iron or a sand wedge and a putter. If James had of had a lawnmower available, I would have cut the grass, and made a green at the golf flagpole, as the grass was a bit long and my golf balls were going astray and it was not possible to make a put. There are golf balls and clubs available, but my kids brought there own. There are also a three mountain bikes available. Kitchen wise, there are plenty of plates and cups. If your in a big group, bring your own wine glasses and if you like a beer, bring your own pint glasses. The kitchen is not designed for gourmet cooking, no grater, only a peeler? But there are plenty of pots and pans. This is a great property with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is not the easiest to find, so once you book get an area code from James. I had stopped in Dunshaughlin and nobody had heard of Smithstown House and when I was on the top of the road where the property is located, I asked people leaving the Royal Equestrian centre if they knew where Smithstown House was located and I was told that they had never heard of it and I was in the wrong area? There is also another feature/ land mark at the other end of the road, but I'll leave that for James to tell you what it is. There is plenty to do in the area. We visited New Grange, (Book well in advance) and the Hill of Tara amongst other things. If I'm in the area again, I would have no hesitation in booking this property, I would just bring the odd kitchen utensil and a bit of glassware for just a bit of extra sparkle and hopefully I'll be able to meet James himself. At no point during our stay were there any issues and everyone had a comfortable enjoyable time at Smithstown House.

Great garden with lots of beautiful views
The property is spacious for one family,
with the lounge area separate (upstairs) from the kitchen/access to the garden. Walks are limited because of the approaching road are narrow and not ideal with buggies or young kids. A lovely stay overall
