Udderly Spectacular By Nature!

It does depend upon what you are looking for in a home away from home for your holiday experience. We wanted relaxed, quiet, beautiful views and a comfortable cottage. We were not looking for a luxurious home or a variety of amenities. You are in another world when you approach the entrance to Griswold Point--you are not on a paved road, there are no street lights, and you wind around other attractive homes until you reach the second floor cottage that is Udder Heaven. It has everything we could want for a comfortable home away from home, and the view from the deck is one we will always remember. There is so much to do within a day's drive of Old Lyme, and we visited art museums in New Haven, Hartford and the remarkable Florence Griswold Home and Museum in Old Lyme. We attended wonderful performances at Goodspeed Opera House and The Kate Arts center a short distance from our cottage. There is a wonderful supermarket--Big Y--that provides all that you need right in Old Lyme. The history of the Griswold family, going back ten generations to 1640, is amazing and something that you feel while you are walking around Griswold Point. This is a most unique place to stay and we felt honored to be able to share this most special experience with the Griswold family!

This was a charming farmhouse home on beautiful property. Close to the town of Mystic and the Mystic Aquarium. The owner was very easy to communicate with.

Super clean, had pretty much everything we needed (more teaspoons and a broiling pan would be nice :). Comfortable bed, nice views. I was itching for a pair of clippers to trim the giant bush but I suspect it belongs to the neighbors house, would expand the view. Our favorite was being able to just drive to the beach and have it essentially to ourselves and the occasional walkers. Lots of birds, Monarch butterflies were fun and so many of them. We'll be back for sure. It was so nice to just be some 90mins from home and feel so far away!!!

We were here for a wedding on the Griswold point. The convenience was great and it was a very cute cottage. I am a big fan of older homes with a history, and this former farm site has that. It did not hurt that the weather was incredible, as were the views.

My daughter and her husband spent there wedding night (and week) at Udder Heaven and were, well, yes in utter heaven! A nature lover's paradise, this home is absolutely lovely and charming. It has great bones, and utter escape from the hustle and bustle of the world. Don't think twice!

totally relaxing. Just what I was looking for!
I will say there is a step from the deck into the rental that is unusually high that could be risky for anyone uneasy on their feet or unwary as it opens right onto the stairway.

Our family had a wonderful time - the peace and quiet, beautiful grounds and "living history" setting . The area has something for everyone (great ice cream 2 minutes away) and so much do do.
Thanks for sharing "Udder Heaven" with us!

Relaxing week away
Great week at a lovely property with great access to a private beach. Our new dog enjoyed being in the ocean for the first time and we grilled out and enjoyed the sun. Lovely property that was very private and quiet. Recommend renting kayaks up the street and explore the sandbars and nesting areas from the water. We’ll be back.

We had a great time, hiking, biking and driving the truck down to the beach. We even got to take our 4 year old son kayaking for the first time . property with so much history!

Great property, amazing location
'Udderly Heaven' lived up to its name in every way! The property has a fabulous view and offers an easy, pleasant walk to the beach. If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the perfect place. The apartment exceeded our expectations and the two of us -- along with our Labrador -- enjoyed a wonderful vacation. We look forward to returning in the future.

Perfect shoreline retreat!
We were lucky to score a stay here at the start of the season—it was even better than the pictures and description! This was the perfect base for bringing our small kids to visit family and re-explore eastern Connecticut after having lived away for a decade plus—and having a relaxing place to come back to. The location was fantastic—convenient to 95 and lots of great places to eat, shop, etc., but totally secluded and serene. The views from the deck were gorgeous, and we made it a point to have several meals out there. (Pro tip: Flanders Fish Market in nearby Niantic has a great selection of seafood for cooking in the kitchen here.). We loved being able to see the osprey nests—the babies had just hatched when we were there. You’ll definitely want binoculars. The beach was great as well, and very convenient—about a 10-12 minute walk with a 4-y.o.
Caroline did a great job with the cottage itself. It’s probably the best-equipped vacation rental of the 10 or so we’ve stayed at over the years. We cook a lot, and we didn’t find ourselves lacking for anything in the kitchen—there were even a number of staples and condiments provided. There were more toiletries/incidentals in the bathroom that made it very convenient in case we had forgotten anything (including sunscreen, bug spray, etc.). The laundry room downstairs was key, and we really appreciated the beach towels and beach toys—and the wagon to tote them down to the beach (and tote the 4-y.o. back…). There were also several board games in the house for varying ages, which came in handy on our one rainy morning. There’s an air conditioner and space heaters, but the weather was perfect and we didn’t need to use either—there are a ton of windows and the cottage seems well-insulated.
Caroline was very communicative and answered the couple questions we had quickly. The whole experience was smooth and effortless. We’ll definitely stay here again for our next CT trip…unless it’s already booked, which apparently happens early!

Oh the view!
We had a wonderful stay on this historic property. Caroline was easy to answer questions and did everything to make our stay enjoyable. She added a gas grill and there were many extras in the barn: beach chair and essentials you might have forgotten.
The cottage was so well stocked with seriously everything you need to prepare meals including wine glasses, good quality knives and serving platters, even storage containers.
The view is just glorious from the top deck with a nice table and umbrella. We enjoyed walking on the beach - a short walk, and took many drives to adjacent towns. This is a fabulous, quiet, peaceful location.

Udder Heaven exceeded all expectations! So clean and welcoming with a comfy bed - the views from the deck are outstanding. Coffee on the deck while watching the birdlife was such a highlight. This is the perfect perch from which to enjoy the CT coastline!

Feels like Family!
This rental property is extremely well-cared for, and kept as if for visiting family, and not renters! Everything made us feel welcomed and at home, and there is so much family history in this area. Definitely an area worth spending time in, and we hope to return again next year! Thank you!!!

Peaceful
Guest #1 .Udder Heaven is a quiet, private place - just what we were looking for. The view of Long Island Sound was lovely as was the private beach. The estate consists of a large manor house and many little buildings dotting the expanse of the property. The Udder Heaven building is a quaint and comfortable renovated barn. Wandering the property, you get a sense of the long history of the place (if you have an active imagination as I do). Reading other peoples comments about their stays, I found every good thing said about it to be true.
In the morning, it was a pleasure to go on the deck to drink my cup of tea while inhaling air richly redolent of the salty sea and newly mown hay, and listening to the wind whistle through the trees to accompany a wide variety of bird songs.
In the general area of Old Lyme there are amazing restaurants, a foodie’s delight. A visit to the Florence Griswold Museum is a must. To be at the birthplace of American Impressionism gave me a very satisfying sense of what it was like to be an artist in the colony that boarded there in the Griswold House. So, in short, this was an experience to be remembered for a long time. Caroline, you were a welcoming and accommodating hostess. Thank you very much for sharing Udder Heaven with us.
Guest #2 I am a cynic, a doubting Thomas who believes that every ad for any product or service contains a fair amount of promotional exaggeration. However, my world wariness and weariness were blown away as so much dark smoke when I drove up the gravel lane past fieldstone walls and the manor house and into environs of Udder Heaven.
I don’t need to repeat the advertised descriptions of Udder Heaven; let me just say that the cottage, the outbuildings and the stretches of tall grass that lead the eye to the Sound in the near-distance can’t be fully appreciated until you see them with your own eyes. If anything the proffered information -including the photos, the lists of area restaurants, museums and other attractions - cannot adequately describe the wonderful experience awaiting visitors to Heaven.
In fact, my wife and I extended our visit two additional days. However we still didn’t get enough Heaven and so plan to return for next year’s vacation!
We offer a resounding Thanks to the Griswold family, both past and present.

Renewal By Nature
We had an absolute blast on property. It was the perfect location to vacation with a toddler, because we didn’t have to worry about disturbing anyone, and the access to the beach was great. We were provided a pack-n-play which made our packing easier, as well as the beach toys and towels. The wagon was also a great tool and our daughter loved riding around in it. The views from the deck were amazing and it was a great place for coffee in the morning. We utilized the kitchen to its fullest for breakfasts and lunches, and even did some baking for snacks…great way to save money and make life easier with the toddler :). Everything as clean and in good order, and communication with the hosts was a breeze. We will definitely be thinking about returning and certainly recommending to others! Thanks again for a great family vacation!

Charming, quintessential, Connecticut shoreline cottage.
We, my pup Emmett and I, loved our week there! It’s in a beautiful setting and was the perfect place to escape to for a peaceful, “get away from it all”, retreat.
The cottage was very clean, well organized and had absolutely everything guests would need without feeling overly cluttered like some rentals do. I wouldn’t have changed a thing and would definitely stay there again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property.

A week at a the seashore in historic CT.
This was a great place for a much-needed change of scenery from the city. The cottage and the property were perfect for long walks, afternoons on the beach, and sight-seeing, too, in the area.

Udder Heaven is a peaceful coastal retreat surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Udder Heaven is an incredibly special place - quiet, peaceful, serene, surrounded by the beauty of nature. We had coffee every morning on the deck overlooking a meadow and the Long Island Sound watching ospreys and chicks in nesting platforms. It is a birders paradise with songbirds in trees over the deck. We enjoyed birding, relaxing on the beach, sightseeing, and kayaking in the wetlands off the Point. The cottage is well stocked and Caroline is a perfect host. We look forward to returning!

Paradise No Kidding
The property is magnificent with beautifully kept lawns that stop at the sea. It has beautiful flowers and osprey nests. It is a family refuge going back to the 1600's. Like Hyannisport, it has family members who have discreetly placed homes on the estate. They are all lovely people and my dog played with their dogs and even brought one or two home for cookies and water. I cannot overstate how wonderful a time I had there.

Spectacular location
We felt like we were in the middle of Connecticut History. So pleased to find a book in the apartment about the Griswold Family by a Griswold. Beautiful setting with water views, great walking paths, and lots to do in the area. The resident dogs welcomed our dog who was thrilled to find company.
Bring an extra sweater if there in May.

Peaceful retreat.
So relaxing! The views of the salt marsh and Long Island Sound are beautiful, walk to the beach just right for a little exercise. Queen bed excellent, twin bed a little firmer than our daughter was used to. Futon/sofa in living room hard for long sitting, was not used for sleeping. Kitchen had everything needed. The birds are fantastic, saw a great white egret and some bluebirds, even a hummingbird! We were left a note to help ourselves to fresh herbs growing just across from our stairway by the little greenhouse, enjoyed the fresh basil. Highly recommended.

A wonderful vacation
This was a great place to stay, just as listed but I did have a little trouble getting to the beach. It was too hot to walk around so we just drove (2 minute) to the beach. We had a wonderful time.

Week of sunshine and beautiful scenery
This is a lovely air conditioned clean apartment that my family thoroughly enjoyed. We spent a lot of time on the beautiful deck taking in the scenery and enjoying the sun and breezes. The beaches are private and close with lovely walks to reach them. We had a very relaxing and fun week at this property.

Relaxing retreat close to home
The cottage was clean and had everything we needed for an enjoyable week away from home. The view from the large deck is amazing ! You can see Long Island sound , an osprey nest, and a beautiful meadow. We spent most of our time on the private beach which was about a 10 minute walk away. The property is beautiful and serene and if you enjoy taking photos this is the perfect place. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us. We will be back.

Beautiful Property!
We had a great week at Udder Heaven. The property is beautiful with a country feel you do not usually get in a beach cottage. The cottage itself was very clean and well stocked, with everything you might need for a week away from home. Family members who live on this very large, private property couldn't have been more gracious. We would definitely recommend a stay here!
