Take a Rest at Pine Point

This historic camp, located right on the edge of beautiful Mattanawcook Pond, has been updated and improved to include all of today's conveniences. Despite feeling private and serene, it is very close to goods and services. The hosts were very helpful in making arrangements for our stay and sharing their enthusiasm for this lovely spot.

This property is a little piece of heaven. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Everything available that anyone could ever need. We would definitely book again in a heartbeat. It’s close enough to town but far away from any and all noises. Perfect silence. Do not hesitate to rent this cottage.

Our stay was absolutely perfect. The location was the best, serene and beautiful, picture perfect! Great wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets. The owners were extremely thoughtful and mindful of all the necessities needed, literally, for a vacation on the lake for anyone traveling from another location. The only thing we had to pickup at the grocery store was food and drinks. The grocery store and downtown was close, yet far enough away that the only thing you heard were the sounds of the water, loons, and other wildlife. I just cannot say enough, there isn’t enough room and we want to make sure it’s not booked up next summer. We would definitely love to come back! Thank you so much!

We loved our opportunity to stay at Pine Point! It was our best vacation ever!! The location on the lake was amazing and the cabin was so well set up! If someone gets the opportunity to stay at Pine Point they will be blessed. Linda is a great host and so responsive! Thanks Paul & Linda for a great vacation!!

A slice of heaven here on earth! We could not have picked a better place to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. Linda and Paul are gracious and more than accommodating hosts. A thoughtful and generous welcome package, providing a VCR so we could watch our wedding video and a beautiful cabin on the water stocked with everything you could possibly need. The peace and quiet, the beauty of the surroundings and the calling of the loons will be something be for the memory books! Thank you Paul and Linda for sharing this!

Absolutely perfect stay! Perfectly situated between Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park. Plus the fishing could not have been better. JATO Highlands Golf Club is outstanding visually. We even got an impromptu tour of the property by the head greenskeeper. Very nice people. All in All, everything was perfect. Thank you Linda for sharing your cottage and being so readily available. As we were leaving we were already planning our next visit.

relaxing, peaceful, and exactly what you want in a vacation rental:clean, well stocked beyond what you'd expect, and directions where to find everything you want from the toaster to local stores. No regular TV or internet adds to a very calming experience! If the unexpected should happen there is a hospital a few miles from the camp. All in all, a perfect spot!

Rejuvenating stay at Tak A Rest!
What fun we had at Tak A Rest! Our two kids, ages 10 and 12 had a blast swimming in the lake, watching ducks and loons, taking rides in the paddle boat and s'mores by the beautiful camp fire while watching the sunset. The cabin was super clean and felt like home. The lake and cabin are actually even better than the photos in the listing. Linda was awesome to communicate with and was very welcoming via correspondence over text messages. Anything we forgot to bring with us was already there and easy to find. We only wish our 5 nights didn't go so fast!

Absolute Relaxation!
We loved everything about our trip. The location is just spectacular - you feel as if you are completely alone, yet it’s a three minute ride to groceries, drug Store and gas station. The cabin has everything you need for cooking, games, puzzles and books for rainy days, and all kinds of equipment for water fun. I enjoyed floating in the water in one of the mesh chairs while my husband fished. Just be aware the “town” is nothing more than a few stores and a handful of restaurants (and the sidewalks roll up at 9:00!) and there is no Wi-Fi so bring movies if that is important to you (although there is a video library as well). We preferred to sit out by the fire listening to the loons and watching the spectacular sunsets. Thank you to the owners for sharing this lovely property - it truly was an amazing experience!

Incredible!!
This listing is absolutely incredible! I was looking for a place near Bar Harbor/ Acadia National Park initially and this was the closest location (2 hours away). My friends and I spent a few days at this listing before heading to Bar Harbor and we ended up not wanting to leave Tak-a-Rest! All of the reviews are accurate and Linda & Paul's listing will meet up to your expectations & even more!
Everything was well-stocked and clean. I cannot begin to describe the beautiful scenery when it comes to the lake and sunset. There were so many amenities included to keep you occupied indoors & outdoors. My favorite was the bonfire & all the provided kindling, fishing rods & bait, and the paddleboat & canoe!
I also appreciated the convenience of stores nearby, such as Walgreens, Walmart, Hannaford, and gas stations. My friends and I enjoyed the local thrift store and eating breakfast at Cindy's County Kitchen! We also loved taking pictures with the giant Loon in town!
Linda was quick to answer my questions and was very kind over the phone. it is clear that Tak-a-Rest is well taken care of and my friends and I felt right at home. We cannot wait to come back again! Thank you Linda & Paul for a wonderful experience :)

Relaxing getaway
It was a pleasure to stay at Tak-a-Rest. From the beginning of the process when dealing with Linda and arranging the rental right up to our last minutes relaxing in the Adirondack chairs enjoying morning coffee by the water before we departed- everything was easy and perfect. The hosts have thought of everything you may need and the house is very well stocked. It was very peaceful and we had a wonderful and restful trip.

Relaxing on the Point
We had an amazing stay at this camp over Labor Day weekend. Everything was perfect with a well stocked cabin. Linda pays attention to all those little details. It’s just like home! Sitting by the campfire each night and looking out over the lake and listening to the loons was so special! Thank you Linda and Paul for opening up your little slice of heaven. We will definitely be back!

Just beautiful
Linda and Paul truly have an incredible property and I could not recommend renting with them highly enough. The entire process was flawless and the cabin and property are just beautiful. Although my communication was mainly with Linda, it is very obvious that a wonderful experience from start to finish is both her and Paul's intention. I could go on, but I'll just leave it at, take the leap and spend some time at Tak a Rest.

Pure Relaxation
It was the first time my wife and I actually vacationed alone, usually with the kids or friends. The camp was so quiet and secluded that we could just relax, read, play cribbage or just take a nap. It was a much needed week of alone time for us both. Thank you for being such gracious hosts and hope to come back again.

Better than expected/ Peaceful!
We have rented some properties in the past that fell short of expectation, Take a Rest exceeded it! We were so pleased with the cabin, landscape, lake and privacy the property allowed. The lake was quite and we were truly able to unplug and enjoy each others company. The cabin had everything we needed to feel at home and REST! including a nap in the hammock.

Tak-A-Rest camp @ Pine point is a wonderful, peaceful and comfortable place to enjoy some of the simple pleasures of life. The almost 180 degree views of the lake from both inside and outside are terrific. From my first contact to my last interaction with the owners everything was extremely pleasurable. The camp is a welcoming place to stay and is equipped with just about anything you could need to enhance your vacation from the kitchen supplies to floats and fishing equipment. It is very clean, quite roomy and has numerous options, both inside and outside for sitting & relaxing and enjoying a wonderful lakeside location. A paddle boat offered opportunities for exploring the lake which had very little boat traffic even on the busy Homecoming/ Loon Festival weekend. The suggestion for "water shoes" was greatly appreciated due to the small, and sometimes large, rocks as you enter the water.Something to be aware of is that if someone has some "balance" difficulties with walking or if there are real young "little" ones there are numerous rocks/boulders and numerous tree routes that might be a bit difficult to navigate around on the waterfront side of the camp. With two decks, a dock, both sunny and shade locations to enjoy listening to the wind blowing thru the pines or the waves lapping the shore it was a memorable and very enjoyable place to stay and we wouldn't hesitate to return. The one disappointing thing, for us, was that the gentleman who had been renting pontoon boats is no longer doing that and we would have really liked the opportunity to see more of the lake than what we could access with the paddle boat or a canoe.

Wonderful stay in beautiful Lincoln
My wife and I had an incredible stay at Take A Rest! The house is cute and clean and had everything we needed. We spent most of our time on our canoe and by the fire pit listening to the lions. We will definitively be back, thank you!!!

Relaxing vacation in the most pleasant setting!
Words really can't describe one of our better vacations in a long time! Swam everyday and kayaked all around the lake and in the feeder stream. Day trips to Acadia NP, Bar Harbor and we also did the Katahdin loop/Baxter SP. This cottage is beautiful; the water access and relaxing porch top our list! The property has everything you need and the hosts Linda and Paul were great to deal with.

Tranquility Base Here
Too often, reviews go on for paragraphs/pages attempting to be as helpful as possible to both potential travelers as well as the owner. We've stayed in many homes/cabins/camps/cottages and this entire experience can only be described as "out- of- this- world phenomenal." Linda and Paul were outstanding.
Let's keep the formal review brief and very to the point: Absolute perfection! Period.

A PERFECT GETAWAY!
It was a total joy from the minute we arrived! Every window in the cabin has a view of the lake. It was equipped with EVERYTHING you would need. The cabin was spotless and very comfortable. Falling asleep to the sounds of the loons and waking up to the morning sunrise across the lake was breathtaking! Nights by the firepit, fishing, ribs on the grill or lunch on the picnic table overlooking the lake are just a few things to enjoy. Owners Linda and Paul were the ultimate hosts. We will definitely be back!

Great trip back to the cabin
Our family had a wonderful time back to the cabin for our second stay. The lake is beautiful and the house had everything we needed to relax and enjoy nature. It was especially nice to watch the sunset over the water and watch the fireworks. We would love to return again next year.

This little cabin is just right.....very cozy and all the comforts of home. We most enjoyed chilly evenings,, having a drink out by the fire pit and then each morning sunrise with coffee on the sunporch. Perfect.
This quiet place on this beautiful lake was so relaxing and gave us a refreshing break from traffic, politics etc. We really enjoyed using out boat to see the lake and wildlife and the fishing was phenomenal!
We loved our short time at the cabin and we were all sad when we had to pack up and leave! Great memories!

Peaceful , relaxing , wonderful , Heaven on Earth!
We loved every minute of our stay. The cottage makes you feel at home the moment you walk in.
We were able to watch the loons swim around the lake for hours , saw a bald eagle fly past the cottage and land nearby. We paddled around the lake in the paddle boat and just relaxed in the hammocks.
I cannot say enough about the cottage and the hospitality of Linda & Paul. Everything you could need is there.
Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your piece of heaven on earth.
We would love to come back again and stay longer!!

Perfect summer escape!
We loved our stay at Tak A Rest at Pine Point! We were looking for a place on the water where we could unplug with our 6 year old son and truly relax. We didn't have to worry about any amenities because everything you could need was there. (there was only one thing that would make it more than perfect - a blender) From the welcome gift to the impeccable cleanliness of the camp, you can tell that the owners are seasoned renters. The location was lovely and a great launching off point to Katahdin Woods and Waters (we left behind a map of the loop road for others to use) as well as on the pond itself. We brought our canoe and explored the lake a few times, spotting fish, turtles, eagles, hawks and of course loons which lulled us to sleep every night. Our son enjoyed the swing every day as well as just exploring the outdoors, fishing, swimming, and spending time together as a family (he didn't even miss TV - though he did watch one of the many videos one morning). We enjoyed the lovely view from the upstairs bedroom, the fire pit and the silence (there are neighbors, but there is enough land around, and it's super quiet) It reminded me of the camp where I stayed when I was a child - simple, peaceful, fun, and perfect.

Family favorite
We had such a peaceful and restful stay at Tak-A-Rest. The spot is very private and secluded feeling while still being close to town. The lake is beautiful and the kids loved swimming. The camp itself is very comfortable with every detail well thought out and the owners are wonderful to work with. This is a true gem, our only regret is that I didn’t book for longer.

Perfect
Our stay was absolutely perfect! The cabin was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed. There was plenty for our three year old twin daughters to do as well. They especially enjoyed drawing with the art supplies, fishing, and swimming in the pristine lake right outside the back door. I cannot recommend this cabin enough. We are looking forward to spending more time here next summer. Thank you for sharing your cabin with our family!

A great place to spend a week, or, better still, the summer.
Some folks may not care for Tak-A-Rest at Pine Point.
You will not enjoy Tak-A Rest at Pine Point unless while at breakfast on the porch the first morning you find pleasure in the company of a beautiful Common Merganser as it has its breakfast at the shore not forty-five feet away.
You will not enjoy Tak-A-Rest at Pine Point if you like the inane racket of over-powered boats driven by yahoos serving no useful purpose other than to enhance the petroleum industry’s bottom line. Mattanawcook is one quiet lake.
You will not enjoy Tak-A-Rest at Pine Point if your psyche demands neighbors. There aren’t any.
You will not enjoy Tak-A-Rest at Pine Point if you celebrate having to load up the wagon with a week’s supply of groceries because your rental is twenty miles from the nearest convenience store over wilderness roads, ungraded since Paul Bunyon and Babe were last there. Tak-A-Rest is about 2 ½ miles from Hannaford and Steak ‘N’ Stuff.
You will not enjoy Tak-A-Rest at Pine Point if, at 2:00 a.m., it angers you to hear loons on Mattanawcook conversing with their friends on nearby Folsom Pond. Admittedly, it’s a sleep interruption, but I can’t think of a more delightful way to be awakened, bringing back memories of childhood camping, wondering what two loons can find to talk about at 2:00 a.m.
Finally, you will not enjoy Tak-A-Rest at Pine Point if you are not moved by seeing the
Big Dipper from the front steps, so near you can almost touch it, its “pointers” aiming your eye to the North Star just like The Handbook for Boys told you they would.

A microcosm of Maine's peaceful beauty
My girlfriend and I have just spent three tranquil, lovely nights at Tak-A-Rest and could not have been more satisfied. Every cabin amenity was carefully provided (paddleboating, a firepit, warm showers, and much more!) and the property itself exuded warmth and peacefulness. This is the third year in a row that we have stayed in a different Maine lake cabin/house, and Tak-A-Rest has thus far been the jewel of them all.

Perfectly Charming Getaway
The only way to truly describe our stay was amazing. After a very long day of travel, it was wonderful to drive into a peaceful, secluded camp. The hospitality gift of 2 mugs, Maine blueberries, butter and syrup were appreciated and enjoyed the next morning. Everything we could possibly need for our stay was provided. The starlights and sunrise views from the upstairs bedroom were spectacular. After a day of fishing, hooking a 4 lb. bass, sitting by the fire pit watching the sunset and local fireworks highlighted with loon melodies was the perfect way to end a summer day. Although seemingly secluded, town and attractions are near enough for day trips and return to the quiet of lake life . Linda was a very gracious host who makes you feel like family.

You NEED to Tak-A-Rest!
My husband and I decided to book Tak-A-Rest in Lincoln, Maine to celebrate our 15th anniversary. From the very first communication, I could tell that booking Linda and Paul's cabin was "meant to be." When we arrived, we were greeted to an incredibly clean, cozy cabin. Every detail was thought of - a binder with instructions on where to find everything, labels on the drawers and cabinets, a binder containing menus from local restaurants, even small lights were on in different rooms to "greet" us with that warm "Welcome to the Lake" feeling. We were also greeted with a gift box containing two beautiful mugs (that we are using every day since), Maine-made maple syrup, Kate's of Maine butter in the fridge and Wyman's blueberries in the freezer, and pamphlets of all sorts of great information for day trips. The cabin itself was pristine, the dining room looking over the lake, the screened in porch complete with chairs to relax in, books to read, and again that incredible view. Stepping outside, there was a picnic table (which was so much fun to enjoy dinner on!), Adirondack chairs to relax in, a fireplace, a paddleboat, all of the amenities you could ever want outdoors. I cannot stress enough how every detail was thought of - and I simply cannot wait to stay at Tak-A-Rest again!
I can guarantee you - you will not regret it. As you are there, you may think as you're unpacking, "Oh no! I should have thought to bring ____," and you will find that Linda and Paul have thought of it, and it is there.
The views, the cabin, the drive in to the cabin, the privacy, the quiet calm lake, the beautiful sounds of the birds, the ripples of the fish in the lake, everything has me counting the days until we can "Tak-A-Rest" again.
Without a doubt - FIVE STARS.

Well appointed cabin on picturesque piece of property
We enjoyed a week's stay and would have loved to stay longer. The owners were extremely friendly and accommodating. We were worried initially about not having Wi-Fi at the cabin, but both our cell phones got good reception and so everything was fine. There was a tv and a video library available. Also a microwave and all the other necessary usual kitchen stuff... Super well set up in general. Watch your step on the dock, the connection points are a tad rickety, but we still enjoyed it very much and are glad it's there. Pictures don't do the place justice and don't be deterred by the idea of a bed on the porch... That space was quaint and comfortable, as was the entire rest of the place. Also, its plenty secluded and private from neighbors while still being close to everything you could need. Highly recommend!
