great location, excellent staff, great food

The Fox & Pheasant is located in a charming village within easy reach of Carlisle. For railway enthusiasts, Armathwaite is a stop on the Settle/Carlisle railway and the village is situated on the river Eden. We stayed on a Sunday and although the pub was very busy, it wasn't a problem getting a table for dinner. There was a varied menu at reasonable prices.

The Fox & Pheasant is in a farming area and one needs to beware of farm traffic on the road.

The breakfast was excellent. The choice was excellent and well presented.

There was a problem with some electrics. This was a supplier s problem not the hosts.

Lovely location. The room was quaint, clean and well maintained.

The hotel is close to the river Eden with views of the fells. An ideal spot for customers who enjoy walking. All the locals seem to come on Friday evenings so the pub was very busy. The food was good at a reasonable price.

The wall lights were not bright enough to read in bed or at the desk.

A nice country pub with dining. Breakfast was freshly made and other cerials on table (some out of date!). We were shown to our room.

Restaurant staff were a bit forgetful on ordering but pleasant. The food was a bit odd especially the lasagne that had just one sheet of pasta. One of my favourite meals so choose often. This was worst I'd ever had, really weird.

The friendly way that the whole place was run. it was old fashioned good service with no unneccery questions. The room was exceptionally clean and welcoming.

Breakfast was brilliant, and plenty of it. The Fox and Pheasant is in a small village (Armathwaite) just north of Penrith, and has its own railway station, with trains to Carlisle, and Leeds (the train stops at Settle which is a nice journey) You are able to pay on the train, which is good. The rooms are lovely with rooms 2 and 3 looking out on to sheep in the field. The staff are very friendly as are the locals. The meals are cooked fresh . When it is cold there is a lovely open fire on the go.

The menu was not as extensive as on a previous visit, but a new menu I believe is due soon, all the food was lovely and good portions.

Lovely staff, delicious food, beautiful setting, super comfortable bed. What more could I want?

the electric shower was a bit disappointingly feeble after a day out walking and the bar menu is a bit lacking in imagination, but everything they do, they do well.

Excellent value for money. Beautiful area. Staff very friendly.
