This cottage has been rented each summer for 29 years and has never received anything other than A 5 STAR a review…. I lost my “premier hosting” status last summer with VRBO, as a result of my website being hacked in early July. Vrbo has to deactivate my listing for 6 weeks, while they “ investigated”… which resulted in me losing new bookings through the VRBO site, for most of the remaining 2022 season. Because I received no new bookings through them, for that time period, they took away my premier host status.
Westport Island is a 2 by 12 mile island connected by bridge to the mainland of Wiscasset. It is a 7 hour drive from New York and a 3 hour drive from Boston.

I visited this property with a group of friends for a weekend. It’s a great getaway in Maine, beautiful property with a ton of space for activities. We had a blast playing wiffleball, grilling outside, and sitting by the fire. There’s also a local lobster fisherman that dropped off some freshly caught lobsters that turned out to be delicious. Would visit again, highly recommend!

Our family stayed at the large house and property while attending a wedding in Boothbay.
We enjoyed the incredible water views, boiled lobster, fished from the dock and built fires in the fire pit.
Very idyllic location!

Our large extended family (young adults to 80+) had an awesome time at this lovely home. The lightening fast internet and smart TV was appreciated by the young adults, and the beautiful view and ample seating was a bonus for all.
The dock was perfect for our 26 foot motor boat - which was very useful for zipping over to several of the nearby restaurants in Bath, Robinhood, and Boothbay Harbor.
The huge kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the gas grill was definitely used and enjoyed.
Ellen, the host, was very attentive and checked in on us multiple times, and made several useful recommendations.
We will definitely return!

The area was so beautiful. Our host apologized for the uncommon foggy weather, but even the fog was stunning as we watched it roll in and undulate above the water.
We felt very comfortable in the house; one of my traveling companions remarked "I felt very at home here."

Ellen was very helpful throughout the entire process. Property is nothing short of amazing.

We stayed here for our wedding and boy it was perfect! Thank you Ellen for everything, we had a blast!!!! She even allowed us to have our farewell brunch at the house and it was amazing!

Ellen's place was perfect for our group of 11 people for a family reunion spanning 3 generations from 2yrs old to 70's. Plenty of spaces to find solitude or gather together inside, outside, covered porches, etc.

We hated to say goodbye to our stay here! This was the perfect spot for our large family and age ranges. The views are the best that we have every experienced at a rental home. Ellen was outstanding in her communication with us and was extremely helpful with her recommendations on restaurants, activities, etc.
The outside cooking area was key to our meals - complete with the grill, griddle. lobster pot and picnic tables.
We rented a boat for the week and enjoyed having the convenience of our own dock.
We had a few toddlers and 5 year olds in our party and they loved the play house, child size Adirondack chairs, and the lawn to romp around on.
We couldn't have been happier and plan to book this property again!

This is a beautiful spot -- great views and plenty of space to relax, cook, and play. The dock is wonderful if you have a boat or just want a swimming spot. Things to note depending on the make-up of your group... the stairs are quite steep and shallow; the 4 bedrooms on the 2nd floor of the main house share a standard bathroom; there are 2 fridges, which is great!

The location is amazing. Views are best in Maine. We rented Kayaks that were delivered and picked up from dock. We rented a 22 foot boat and kept at deep water dock. Host was excellent. Provided restaurant recommendations, Kayak rental numbers, had lobster delivered to the house. She is great. Will definitely rent again

Ellen's place was a perfect location for a low key weekend with friends during a high school reunion. Love all the decor, the home-y feel, and the fantastic views! We spent lots of time on the dock, enjoy some lawn games, grilled, and had a wonderful lobster boil dinner complete with fresh, dock-delivered lobsters. Would love to stay here again!!

Great Property!
We had a great stay here, a reunion of old friends. Great fires, a variety of weather, beautiful view, useable dock for a dinghy or smaller vessel, and all that's needed for a steaming lobsters and clams/mussels.
A car is very helpful for trips to markets, restaurants, and other destinations.

Maine perfection
Absolutely stunning coastal Maine location, large charming property that is homey and well equipped and Ellen is the nicest host ever. We had the best family reunion despite COVID and so glad we booked this property. Highly highlyrecommended. We’re planning to return next year.

Perfect getaway for all ages! Beautiful property!
Renting was easy and Ellen was exceptional, providing all the needed information about things to do and where to go! We loved it. We have eleven family members aged 4-75.

Lovely setting
The house provides so many different places for kids to play and well-spaced-out rooms that allow for privacy. The setting is gorgeous--on the water, you can watch the tides from the bay window in the living room (but the seals are too far to see without binoculars, so bring your own). And a hummingbird visits the feeder on the window regularly. The only tiny thing is that you are 20 minutes from a store, so stock up on staples on the way in. Ellen was wonderfully available by text andinstantly responsive. The grounds are varied and beautiful, very well-kept.

Multi Generational Family Vacation
The house and location were perfectly suited for our family. Pictures of the property and views can not capture the real beauty. Wiscasset and Boothes Bay Harbor were great for dining and shopping. Ellen supplied us with excellent recommendations for local dining and activities including a top notch fishing guide who picked us up at the pier on the property. We cooked breakfast on the large outdoor gas griddle, had s,mores around the fire pit and ate several meals outside including our Maine lobster and clam boil. The house well equipped to handle the ten adults and children in our family. Thank you Dana and Ellen.

Classic coastal Maine
We really enjoyed staying in this large classic Maine home on beautiful coastline full of seals, ospreys and flowers. The house worked well for our combination of two families with 5 children. We'd definitely come again next summer. Ellen was great and very generous with multiple suggestions for activities and food options in the area. Thx!

Rent this one you can
10/10 This is a relaxed, laid back house is perfect for a group of good friends or family to spend a week in Maine. The view is breathtaking and located on a quiet road you can enjoy walking off your lobster each morning. If you cook, the house is pretty well equipped and located close to all the shops you need. Best of all the host is absolutely spectacular and went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time.

Beautiful home with breathtaking views
My husband had a legal convention which brought our family to Maine. Ellen is an exceptional host. She texted me throughout my stay ti make sure I did not need anything throughout our stay. The home was spotless which I appreciated since I’m a huge germaphobe. I loved to have coffee in the sun room in the mornings and wine in the evening at the fire pit outside while my children ate s’mores. We had an incredible stay!!! We will surely be back to this very spacious home.

The ultimate relaxation vacation
I stayed at the cottage with 4 of my friends for a long weekend getaway and we couldn't have had a lovelier visit. The scenic views are absolutely incredible, the river access is easy, and the house was adorable. I think we spend all of our in-house time in the eastern sitting room with the phenomenal panoramic view of the river. Beds were very comfortable and the whole cottage extremely clean. We kayaked each day up and down the Sheepscot River and really enjoyed our explorations. Cormorants, eiders, herons, and osprey abound. A couple of my friends even saw seals. Ellen was a great communicator and an incredible host. The trip was a celebration for my 50th birthday, and upon our arrival we found a local pie, fresh vases of flowers, and a lovely card. A load of firewood arrived the second day of our stay for the bonfire area. All five of us had an amazing stay and I look forward to a return trip next year! Thank you, Ellen!

we stayed here with a few other families and fell in love on our trip. Absolutely gorgeous and inspiring property and a house that was amazing for accommodating all of us (6 adults, 5 kids). We rented kayaks, hiked, ate, and hung around the best fire pit every day. Ellen is great to deal with, gives tons of trip info, and responds asap to all messages, We will def be back!

Incredible home and experience!
My family stayed here for a week and we all had an absolutely amazing time! Two small children (4 and 1 years old) and adults of various ages (30s-60s) and everyone had a comfortable, special and relaxing time. The layout of the home gives good privacy and we were surprised at how quiet the various bedrooms were (kids go to bed early). The setting is remarkable and the views cannot be beat. Ellen was so helpful with recommendations and we enjoyed easy trips almost daily to various beaches, hikes, fishing, etc. We would definitely stay again!

We enjoyed all the area has to offer and Ellen is the best hostess you will ever find! She is very available and attentive and goes above and beyond to help facilitate a great vacation. We loved the well equipped house, comfortable beds, new appliances, many books and games, great internet and kitchen which has everything you could possibly want. A truly special couple of weeks!

A special place
Wow! What a special place. Spectacular views, cozy charm, comfortably stocked and clean as a whistle. Our host, Ellen, was most gracious and accommodating. Our group did most of the activities mentioned in previous reviews and the 'cottage' was a great getaway for our family reunion. Everyone in our family said that they would definitely come here again. Give it a try … you won't be disappointed.

Nice spot!
We had a great week. Ellen was terrific. Make sure you get recommendations from her ahead of time. Then you can arrange for any equipment rentals ahead of time. We rented bikes, a kayak and a paddleboard. She's also great for restaurant suggestions! The house is a little out-of-the-way which for us was a plus. You should look closer to town if you want to walk to stores.

Maine Perfection
We are thrilled with the perfect house, perfect view, perfect hostess, and perfect vacation. The house was everything we wanted in a Maine vacation. The bedrooms were spacious and well appointed. We appreciated having multiple spaces which allowed us to gather together but also afforded us our own space when quiet time was needed. You also have everything so well stocked! We particularly loved all of the fun plates, table cloths, butter dishes, etc. to make our lobster bake a very special one! The house is so very special, and it was fun to imagine the history it has seen. Proudly set on a bluff of the Sheepscot River, the house affords views of the lobstermen checking their traps, kayakers paddling the river, seagulls fishing the waters, and most special of all regular gatherings of 50-75 seals perched on the two shoals which appear as the tidal waters recede. We paddled with the seals daily and were mesmerized by these intriguing mammals. What a week of fires, roasting S’mores, cooking lobster, paddling the river, hiking the Bonyun Preserve, riding bikes, watching the seals, playing games, and many fun trips to explore the precious Maine towns. Paddling to the Trevette General Store for lobster rolls and then to the Botanical Gardens was amazing. We loved chartering the Hayval, owned by Captain Bruce, and motoring with Captain Sue. Ellen, thank you for everything. You were amazing as were all of the wonderful people who enhanced our trip..Lisa, bike man, kayak guy, pie lady, Captain Sue etc. So much appreciation to you for our perfect Maine vacation.

Perfect location for the whole family!!💖
This house & property did not disappoint. Everyone had their own bedroom, we had 6 adults and one toddler. We were able to cook our meals right in the well stocked kitchen with the best views.Ellen even brought me a mixer so I could bake. We watched lobster boats check their traps and enjoyed watching the seals basking in the sun right from the yard as the girls relaxed in the yard also soaking up the sun. We rented kayaks for the week, such a fun way to paddle your troubles away! Went fishing on the boat with Peter as Ellen had suggested. Seeing all the little islands, Eagles & Ospreys as well as striped bass fishing made for an amazing day! We went to the lobster co-op and had our own lobster fest right in the backyard. The girls (ages 27-35) loved putting all the puzzles together as they had done as kids. The toddler with us loved going out just to explore in the fabulous yard. We played lawn games and just enjoyed being together. Most meals were enjoyed right out in the backyard. It is the perfect place to just relax and enjoy everything Maine has to offer. We definitely would love to return to Ellen’s cottage next year! Thanks, Ellen for helping to make this girls week vacation nothing short of amazing!!💖💖

Great Family Experience!
The house is just as shown. Great location and awesome views. Enjoyed evening fires under the stars. Went fishing with a guide and they picked us up at the dock at the house. Ellen was a very helpful and knowledgeable host and went out of her way to stock some groceries in the house when our flight was delayed and we ended up arriving around midnight.

Lovely Maine House
My family of 14 people ranging from 6 months old to 70 enjoyed our time at this house. We managed to comfortable find sleeping arrangements for all, including the toddler and infant sleeping with their parents. The pictures are completely accurate. Note there is only one full bath and a half-bath in the main house so people must share, but the kitchen is terrific.

Everything was great - as ideal as it could be in every respect. Great views and got to see the seals in the water outside!

Incredible Setting!
We weren't prepared for such an incredible setting. Lobster boats cruising the shoreline, seals basking on the rocks and Osprey soaring above were enough to make it memorable. Couple that with an adorable 'cottage' (and I use that term loosely -- it's quite generous in size and amenities) -- well, it all made for a terrific family vacation. We were there during a bit of an unsettled weather pattern and without air conditioning, we stayed a bit 'damp' -- but we spent much of the time out and about and kept the fans running so it was fine. The house was so well stocked that we only needed to purchase groceries. Overall, we had a wonderful time laughing, relaxing and making memories along the way! Thank you Ellen!

Spectacular
Our group of seven (five teenagers and two adults) loved Ellen’s home. Any question was answered within minutes. Prior to arrival, Ellen sent information about what to do while visiting and we managed to do almost everything. Her recommendations were spot on. The weather was perfect at 75 during the day and 55 at night (we actually slept with the windows open) which was a wonderful break from the oppressive Florida summer heat. Thank you Ellen!
