About this villa rental
The House was built in 1875 near the old Convent of Santa Maria dei Martiri. In 1400 a small village started to grow around the convent and became famous as a market where local products were sold every Saturday. Being Saturday the market–day, the village was named ‘Forum Sabati’ – "Mercato del Sabato" (Saturday Market) - later simply renamed ‘Mercato’. Our family villa looks out over the sloping coast and is surrounded by a beautiful and big garden with secular trees and colourful varieties of flowers together with terraced olive and vine cultivations viewing the Isle of Capri and the Amalfi Coast. An extension of 110 hectares of woods and a large green area densely planted with olive groves which gives a delicious extra-virgin olive-oil produced according to old traditional procedures complete the magnificent scenery.
The Estate Il Pilaccio nel Cilento is located at about 600 meters (2000 feet) above sea level in a position dominating the ancient village of Castellabate and the sea of the mermaid Leucosia.
Its privileged location among olive and green chestnut trees allows its guests to shelter from the heat of the summer months, offering complete privacy and tranquillity. It is perfect for families: there are large outdoor spaces available for children to play while adults relax inside or outside the house, cheered by the sound of the cicadas.
The Villa Il Pilaccio nel Cilento is a 500 square meters (5400 square feet) - stone house with three floors and two terraces, and is arranged to accommodate up to 12 people. In some of the rooms, additional two beds or cots for children -up to 6 years old- can be provided (additional cost applies - see Rental terms). Most of the rooms are paved with terracotta tiles, and the furnishings include some antique pieces.
A big kitchen and a large dining room are located on the ground floor. The airy kitchen is equipped with four-burner gas cooker, gas oven, refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, iron and ironing board, microwave, Italian-style coffee-maker, kettle, toaster, and other small appliances. A complete kitchen pack is also available for all guests.
The dining room has an authentic Italian style fireplace made of stone and a large wood dining table where guests can enjoy their meals, with a great view of the garden.
On the first floor, we have 3 double bedrooms and a bedroom with two single beds, 1 lounge, 1 TV room and 1 dining room. The furnishings of the rooms are warm, welcoming and comfortable and also include some antique pieces; views of the garden, the countryside and sea can be enjoyed through the Juliet balconies.
On the first floor there are 2 bathrooms: the master bathroom is very spacious and equipped with a washbasin, a toilet, a shower and a hairdryer; the second one has a washbasin and a toilet.
On the second floor there is one double bedroom and a bedroom with two single beds, 1 lounge and 1 TV room. The rooms are furnished in a similar style and all enjoy great views. Two bathrooms are available with a similar arrangement. Two terraces with a top view of the surrounding countryside and the sea will leave you breathless and give a great vantage point to enjoy the sunrise and sunset.
The huge garden extends for about 3000 square meters (32000 square feet) and is full of flowers, trees, planted terraces with olive trees, fruit trees such as kakis, walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, mulberries, plums, figs, apples, pomegranates. You are welcome to pick you own ripe season fruit straight from the trees!
In the garden there are various relaxation areas and wide patios paved in stone from which you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley and of the sea. The area is equipped with pavilions, brickwork barbecue and many other facilities for adults and games for children. Under the pavilions, you will find tables and chairs, perfect for an outdoor breakfast or meal.
By the garden you will also find a bathroom which equipped with three washbasins, and one toilet.
In the garden there is a splendid private infinity pool which provides a magnificent view of Capri, Ischia, the Amalfi Coast and a broad view of the whole arch-shaped Gulf of Salerno and of the greenery. The pool is approximately 45 square meters (500 square feet), and the area equipped with deck chairs and an external shower.
After dusk, far from the city lights, it is a pleasure to look up to the sky and witness the emotional stars show, sipping a glass of wine. There is no better way to overcome stress after a busy and tiring year at work! The villa will give you unforgettable moments and create enduring inner peace!
The price includes sheets and towels, including pool towels, free wifi connection, water, gas and electricity. The final cleaning price is 150 euro for the first two weeks, for any additional week 50 euro will be added and will be paid in cash at check out for a change of sheets and towels once a week, including pool towels.

Our family had the privilege of staying in this lovely villa and town for a week. This is the perfect location if you want a peaceful spot for a vacation - lovely grounds, pool, views, and antique furnishings. The town had the friendliest people in the two stores that we met in Italy as well, who were very helpful despite our limited Italian. We also booked a dinner the first night at the villa and a boat tour of the Cilento coast through the VRBO, which were both highlights of our trip. Despite temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s during the day, we were comfortable in the villa (which has no air conditioning). All highly recommended if you want to have a less touristy experience in Italy.

Fantastiskt boende i pittoresk liten bergsby
/Ewa SvH

Great place to enjoy the piece and quiet of the Cilento region
Huge property with beautiful garden and pool with a view.
We are a family with three teens and usually we are wanting for space, not here. The villa/castle is huge, 6 bedrooms and two sitting/dinning rooms on each of the two upper levels.
The owner was wonderful during check in and helpful with directions and would check on and clean the pool daily.
We visited early June and found that most of the restaurants nearby were only open on weekends. There are three well stocked grocery stores in the village though and the restaurants in the more touristy areas (Castebellate etc about 25 minutes away) were open daily.

il Pilaccio
Francesca’s villa is a beautiful place and ideal for a large group. It’s high up in a small village with a few amenities - supermarket and shop for basics. There’s a bigger village a few kilometres away and a car is essential. We loved our stay and hope to go back one day!

A beautiful home on a stunning property
Il Pilaccio was an incredible place for our siblings and dearest friends as we celebrated our wedding. The property is very private, within the gates, each room expansive with gorgeous period furniture and a wonderful kitchen for cooking meals for everyone. The property is stunning at all stages of the day, and near several delicious restaurants. Francesca the host is warm and gracious, very clear communication and gives a thorough presentation of the house, property, and surrounding countryside. We picked figs in the morning when they were in season, and enjoyed long afternoons by the pool and on the outside property drinking wine and playing pingpong. The house is meticulously clean, and much much larger and more magical in person. It was a dream stay, and we look flrward to returning again some day soon.

A beautiful and grand house and garden
The house is well-maintained and is grand and spacious, with high ceilings and plenty of areas to relax and entertain. There is extensive outdoor space, beautiful gardens, outdoor eating areas, and a pool (unheated). The small village is quiet and has all the essentials. The owner is very available and can help with excursions, booking restaurants or arranging activities. The house is located in a mountainous region up twisty roads and so the view is beautiful, as is the surrounding countryside. It is about a 20-25minute drive to the nearest beaches, which are very pleasant and near wonderful sites such as Paestum. Note that there is a charge for electricity use.

A beautiful, remote place in Cilento
The historic building is simply great, the service friendly and everything well organized and clean.
Those who do not mind the steep roads will be rewarded by a unique and remote experience far away from any mass tourism.

House and garden are simply wonderful. And Francesca a very friendly and responsive host
Francesca was very responsive; ideal host.
House and garden are simply wonderful. The location is beautiful. Being up in the hills meant that it was just cool enough in the afternoons after days out sightseeing, perfect for swimming and sundowners. Loved it!

A highly relaxing stay in a beautiful setting
After an extremely busy week visiting Rome, Monte Cassino and the Gulf of Naples, Il Pilaccio was a real haven of tranquillity.
Francesca was very welcoming and accommodating to our requests. Her English is excellent and she kept in touch with us via text messages from the moment we set off from Naples, providing us with directions. She even arranged a hire car to be waiting for us at short notice on a Sunday.
It was a real privilege to stay in her beautiful ancient family home. We loved relaxing by the pool in the stunning grounds with amazing views, dining Al Fresco (pack some mosiquito repellant) and playing ping pong. The sunsets were truly incredible.
The village itself is authentically Italian and we loved holidaying amongst local life and browsing at a morning roadside market. Despite being unable to speak the language we got by with a few token words, gestures and lots of smiles! There is a mini market - a 5 min stroll from the villa that sells most things and the owner is very friendly and helpful. There is also a larger supermarket nearby (5 min in the car) A car is essential for exploring the area.
We ate one evening at the local pizzeria and found the food very good value.
If we had stayed longer we would have liked to have hired a boat for the day (which previous guests have done) and sailed along the Cilento coast, stopping off at quiet bays for a spot of sunbathing and snorkelling. However, we did manage to visit Castellabate and San Marco where we enjoyed a drink by the harbour, and have a beach day on the shores of Pioppi. All three are lovely places to visit.
Just a note for those who are used to receiving a villa welcome basket, or a days worth of dishwasher/washing up product/coffee etc the villa was very sparsely equipped. We had to shop for all the basics. Although there were a couple of toilet rolls and towels were provided.
If you like authentic getaway from it all holidays and staying in properties steeped in history and culture then you'll love staying at Il Pilaccio! We did!!

Beautiful house and gardens
We booked for my mother's 80th birthday celebration with other family members staying in Castellabate, Francesca cooked us two family meals (evening and lunch for 24) which were delicious. The house is characterful, the garden beautiful and the views form the pool are lovely. My brother and I plus our two families had a very happy week and Francesca looked after us very well. A wonderful place for a holiday and venue for a party.

Fantastic stay!
This is a fantastic place to stay. We were two families of total 10 people staying in the villa. The house is extremely well kept and spacoius with so much history and character. We had 800 m2 and 15 rooms including a very beautiful old kitchen we could use. The garden is very big and tidy and the pool was enjoyed by both kids and adults. The wievs over the Amalfi coust and Capri were breath-taking.The village, Mercato Cilento, is small but provides you with the things you need, you find a supermarket, bar, bakery and gas station. The hostess Francesca is extremely nice and takes care of your every wish. Francesca's mother prepared the most excellent dinners for us!
Places like Amalfi, Salerno, Paestum, Pompeij are within reach with car. Yet - the Cilento area is still not really discovered by the tourists.
The villa is strongly recommended to guests who like to get a little extra quality to their vacation.

A wonderful villa in a gourgeous garden
Staying at Pilaccio was a wonderful experience. The Palace is large and bright and looks like a Castel more than a villa. The garden is really well kept and we had a great time there having fun by doing barbecues, playing on the grass, reading in the shadow of the patio and the big trees. A nice pool looking at the valle and the sea complete the bucolic scenary.
The sorroundings were very pleasant too: we met a lot of nice people, visited several beatiful beaches as well as small typical villages in the area and had lot of great food!
Francesca was always kind and helpful.
Thank you Francesca for this amazing holiday, we will come back for sure!

Fantastic house, great garden, wonderful views.
We stayed in the house in October 2016 as a party of 12. There was more than enough room for us all, with plenty of living rooms to gather together of an evening to play cards or to hide away to read a book.
The gardens and the pool are beautiful, with a covered area running half the length of the garden under which to seek some shade or rain cover. In late October we were able to eat outside and have a barbeque beneath the pergola. A great evening.
Furnishings are quite basic, but if you are looking for lots of space for family members to run around without having to worry about the odd spillage (stone and tilled floors) then this a great place to stay.
Make sure you visit Paestum which is 30 minutes away, and go south to the coast around Agnome Cilineto coast for great beaches.

Lovely stay at pilaccio
I had a lovely stay at pilaccio with my family. The villa was perfectly cleaned and fully furnished with all the items expected and even more. I loved the outside too! We spent many hours in the garden decorated with plently of colourful flowers, around the beautiful pool as well as under the patio where we had several delicious barbecue!
The wi-fi connection was working both inside and outside till the pool area despite the huge extension of the garden.
The house and the garden are stunning and the view is spectacular from the hills to the sea until the island of Capri.
The beaches and sea are very easy to reach after some driving through very nice tree-lined streets; one of the best things was coming back to the castle (pilaccio appeared like that to us!) after a full day down to the sea discovering such a nice temperature back home was just wonderful!
Francesca and all her staff were ready to satisfy of all our requests at anytime. I would recommend anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing heaven to spend at least one week at pilaccio!
Thank you!!

A Grand old property in a stunning position
Il pilaccio is a great place to stay if you're looking for somewhere special, away from the tourist mecca of Amalfi, but still within a day trip travelling distance.
In fact all our family, having visited the Amalfi area for a day agreed that the Cilento area was far nicer. Better beaches, less touristy and expensive, and still absolutely stunning scenery.
The House is as described - 'Ancient' - the furnishings and kitchen are probably all antiques, but nevertheless comfortable and functional. And it is huge, be prepared to get lost several times before you get your bearings! It is situated in the village itself, within walking distance of various shops and I would say all the locals were very friendly and helpful, which makes a huge difference to the overall experience.
It is the pool and garden which really make this property something special. The views over the village and countryside down to the sea and out to Capri are truly unforgettable and memories of afternoons sitting in the sun by the pool with a cold beer, or glass of prosecco, will stay with us for a long time to come.

A beautiful house in a stunning location
We had a fabulous time staying at the Pilaccio. Francesca was lovely and always helpful. The surrounding area and views are stunning but it is quite a windy drive to get to either Castelabate or Sante Maria (beach). If you want to be surrounded by beauty I would thoroughly recommend this holiday. There is a local shop and small supermarket and small cafebar/restaurant within walking distance. But anything else is quite a drive away, but in some ways this is part of it's charm.

A beautiful and remote hideaway in the mountains.
Our week in the Pilaccio was excellent. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was hot and sunny every day. We had a lovely afternoon making pasta and other local dishes. the house is just stunning and the grounds are used for weddings and so are beautifully kept. The only downside is that the sea is about 30 minutes drive away.

A holiday in paradise
We (eight grownups and three children) arrived late in the evening on the 2nd of July and Francesca was there to greet us. She is really kind, helpful, informative and easy to communicate with.
We were totally blown away by this amazing house, which we thought looked and felt more like a castle.
The place is absolutely amazing. The whole place has this Mediterranean charm to it, the view is spectacular from every single room and the garden is large and quiet and in the end of the garden, there is a relaxing pool area from where you can see the mountains and the ocean in the horizon. We had the whole place to our self and it was easy to find semi-private spots.
The place was super clean, the kitchen was well assorted and had everything we needed. When we needed help Francesca was really helpful.
The area was peaceful and quiet and the town had everything you’d need of the basics. The nature around the town was spectacular as well!
We could easily have stayed for another couple of weeks!
Thanks for a really great experience! We would love to come back some time…!
