In the Old Quarter, although the building with the private rooms is several blocks from the listed address (not mentioned in the listing ofc).
The site is making me type more but I really have nothing good to say about this place. I didn't actually die, that's good I guess. I would have gone somewhere else if I could afford it.
Absolutely filthy and not cleaned once while I was there. Every piece of bedding was stained. They gave me a duvet cover with no duvet in it? Every surface was visibly dirty. Infested with MASSIVE cockroaches. The walls had big holes and cracks in them so you could hear every word anyone in the building said. No soap in the bathroom except for a little used chunk left by a previous guest. Sink didn't drain properly. So damp that the towel never dried out (and of course they don't clean so they never replace them) and all of my clothes had a weird smell after a day or two. I got a nasty case of bronchitis while staying here and I am certain this hotel is the reason. Didn't even end up being that cheap really when you add in what I had to pay for cough medicine and a doctors visit. Also they only accept cash (not mentioned in the listing) and will try to keep your passport if you don't have enough cash on you. Someone came around to try to kick me out early on checkout day. Do not believe the good reviews, they are all fake. Do not risk your health by staying here.

Le confort est déplorable on été pourtant en mode backpack tour d'Asie habitué au logement bas de gamme mais ce faire réveiller avec des énorme cafard sur la tête, une douche qui fui, un matelas complètement foutu on avait l'impression d'être dans un garage. On a changé d'hôtel en pleine nuit et bien évidement nous avons pas eu de geste de la part de l'établissement.

The staff was helpful. We did the booking at the last minute and they provided us all the cooperation instantly with a smooth checkin and all our requests were properly taken care.

For the price we expected way more…First of all at check-in we had to pay the full price without offering a tour (witch is their catch phrase) which pretty unusual. After paying the lady showed us a different location where our room will be located. We found this pretty sketchy and unconvenient to walk 5-7 minutes withe the heavy luggages again. It’s not like we can’t walk it’s more like we payed a taxi ti drop us off at the hotel and then we have to walk again…
We arrived to the second location where a bloke picked us up went through this maze which looked like a construction site and we got our room on the 4th floor. Oh yeah the spiral staircase is super narrow it was “so much fun” to walk up there.
The room is literally one bed with 15cm place at the front and like 50cm space on the side. Literally this was the tiniest room we have ever been. No windows, wall is fallin apart, bed is super hard, electricity is constantly cutting out. On top of that, don’t ask why they put a green exit light in the room. Seriously?? So this green light is on the whole time so don’t expect good sleep.
Our personal favourite is that the staff leaves their scooter in the middle of the hallway so might have a couple of centimeters to walk by…
Do yourself a favour and avoid this place.

Chambre très très petite, environ 8m2, alors qu’elle était annoncée de 25m2. Les chambres ne sont pas au mieux de réception mais dans un autre bâtiment situé à 500m.

Reservamos una habitación privada con baño. Básicamente era un colchón en el suelo al que se le notaban todos y cada uno de sus muelles. La peor cama del mundo. Baño sucio. Las paredes son una madera fina que te separa de la recepción, en la puedes oír cómo a los otros huéspedes les han cancelado la reserva (práctica que se ve que es habitual). La puerta se atacaba. Tiene buena puntuación porque regalan una bebida si pones 5 estrellas en internet.
Hay opciones muchísimo mejor cerca a un precio similar.

The location is perfect if you want to be in the middle of the old quarter and the price is very affordable.
Very messy hostel with nasty bathrooms and which probably doesn't get cleaned often. Uncomfortable bunk beds. And it looks nothing like in the pictures (either they are very old or they just don't clean up the place).
Some of the reviews are certainly fake (if you check carefully, the users leaving them are supposed to be from places like Vanuatu, Christmas Island and so on, which is extremely unlikely), and I saw myself that at the reception they offer free drinks in exchange for five-star reviews on Google.
On top of this, the hostel had earlier sent me a link to a fake site masquerading as Booking and asking for advance payment on the basis that otherwise I would lose my reservation, and during my stay they also moved my booking to one in 2026 I don't know why (maybe hoping that I would not notice and that they could charge me some extra money then?). All very sketchy, honestly.
It's not the worst place in the world, it's just messy and dirty, and in normal circumstances I would rate it with maybe 5 out of 10 because at least it's cheap. But, I'm sorry to say, there is more than enough reason to suspect that a) they have many fake reviews, and b) they might even try to take extra money from you.

I loved the safety of the hostel, and it's location was perfect for going out in old town. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean, it also has functioning air conditioning.
There was nothing wrong with the place, but the lockers could have been bigger.

The staff were helpful
The place is awful, do not go, for less you can find more than 5 better hostels in the same area. The beds don't have a mattress, just a thin mat on a slab of wood, the room's walls were dirty and scribbled on. The curtains are barely there (a weird diy project gone wrong). The bathroom was dirty, the first towels I got was full of yellow stains. The room is cold and the covers are super thin. No common space and no free lockers (the only lockers they have need a key from reception so you can't even use your own lock). Most of all, the guests were really awful when i was there.
Save your money and go somewhere cheaper/same price for wayyy better (banana hostel or the eco hostels for example). They buy good reviews in exchange for free stuff so don't trust it and look on google maps to see other reviews from the hostel, it is definitely not a 8/10.

Staff were not accommodating. Advertised a laundry service, but was told the cleaner had not been there and service was unavailable. Room was a mattress on the floor on the ground floor. Unclean and extremely smelly.

I had a great experience at Ubuntu Hostel in Hanoi's Old Quarter. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and its proximity to tourist attractions was a major plus. Felt like a home away from home – definitely coming back!

Good location
There was no bed, just a mattress on the floor. The floor was dirty. The sheets were not on the bed properly. The bathroom smelled terrible. There was a lot of shouting right outside our room at all times of the day. Access to our room was blocked by parked motorbikes. There was no air conditioning controller in the room. The door actually came off the hinges at one point when we tried to unlock it. Overall terrible standard of hostel.

The place is nicely located, the hosts are really welcome.
The thing that I loved the most is the rooftop with the sports inventory, nice view, ukulele you can play. The breakfast is simple but tasty. And the guests stayed were really great. The vibes were nice.
It's not very clean and the beds curtains are not full enough and as I'm a sensitive sleeper, I felt a bit off

La ubicación es excelente. Al lado del centro en el Old Quarter. Cuando llegamos no estaba el dueño pero pudimos hacer el check in sin problema, se puede contactar a través de un número de teléfono o en nuestro caso fue gracias a una webcam con altavoz.
A tener en cuenta que la entrada es muy estrecha y debes atravesar un pasillo hasta llegar a lo que es realmente el hostal.
El baño compartido, no estaba lo suficientemente limpio. En las fotos sale mejor de lo que era en realidad. En los días que estuvimos, lo ocupaba una persona todas las mañanas y no salía hasta 1 hora después.
El colchón de las camas era realmente duro.

The location was great: close to the old quarter, but still quiet at night.
The bed was really hard and uncomfortable to sleep on. The shared bathroom was not clean at all. The bin for used toilet paper was not refreshed daily. We had to bring our own toilet paper to the bathroom. Most of times, there was no personnel to be found.
