About this cottage rental
This luxurious, modern holiday cottage is upside down - bedrooms downstairs, an open plan kitchen and lounge area upstairs. Designed by award winning Rio Architects to be contemporary and minimalist whilst retaining period features, this cottage was once used for storing carts on an old country estate. It is warm and cosy thanks to a renewable biomass heating system, downstairs underfloor heating and best of all - sheep's wool insulation! The king-sized master bedroom is spacious, with modern furniture complemented by a historic section of exposed blue pennant sandstone wall. A stunning contemporary wet room includes a stand alone bath tub with waterfall tap, walk in rainforest shower and generously sized fluffy white towels The ground floor is completed by two twin/double bedrooms.
Upstairs is open plan. A large fully fitted kitchen with high quality appliances and seating for six leads into a large living area with sofas and comfortable seating, woodland views and a HDTV with Freesat. The reading chair is popular with guests who love to relax by the roof-to-floor window and watch goings on at the farm. This is a great place to peruse our hugely popular information folder with its suggested itineraries and local travel tips. An upstairs WC completes the upstairs. A door leads into a private enclosed garden area (look for the magic stone tree in the wall). As well as ample parking, there is a private BBQ and Pizza oven for guests use. Behind the garden is open woodland - very popular with younger guests who love to play there and make dens. The farm trail takes you from the cottage doorstep, along the bank of the picturesque River Clydach and into a bluebell woodland. Guests are free to enjoy over a hundred acres of private grounds including hillside areas with panoramic views of the Brecon Beacons to the north and Swansea Bay to the south.
The cottage features Welsh themed artwork by prominent artists. A display coffee table is filled with centuries old artefacts and curiosities found by metal detectorists at the farm over the years. A highlight is an old button featuring a raven which was part of an army of ravens that protected a Welsh Prince of the dark ages from whom previous owners of the farm claim descent. This story is told in the Welsh medieval Tales of the Mabinogion and depicted in an art print by famed Lord of the Rings illustrator Alan Lee which hangs in the living area of the cottage.
The cottage is stylish, modern and well equipped whilst retaining the historic atmosphere of the ancient estate to which it belongs. It is ideal for families, couples seeking a peaceful rural retreat, business travellers and groups wishing to be located at the heart of South Wales' top attractions. There are great mountain biking trails nearby and bike storage and washing facilities at the farm. The cottage offers the best of both worlds - a peaceful and scenic countryside location and yet only just over a mile away from a large 24 hour supermarket (why not arrange a delivery) and some great pubs and restaurants.

Excellent property in a great location.
Friendly host that was happy to chat away to us.
Modern and very comfortable.
We had 2 adults and 4 kids, 2 of which were teenagers.
Accommodation had everything we needed for our stay.
Hosts have gone to great lengths to leave a vast amount of information regarding the farm and local area and all the history dating back a long time ago.
Very interesting.
Internet was good enough to stream sky sports or Netflix.
Great walks around the area of the farm and surrounding area that have been marked and highlighted for residents.
Only a few things could’ve made this stay a little better.
Only one shower between all 3 bedrooms made getting out accommodation in morning a little delayed, master bedroom is big enough to get an en-suite in there.
Shower temp would start off ok but drop to a lukewarm very quickly and this was with it turned to max temp.
Water temp at kitchen tap seemed hotter.
Not unusable but I like a hot shower.
We weren’t staying long enough to moan about it.
Main bedroom door latch gets stuck in and you need to fiddle with it to get it to pop back out otherwise door does not stay shut, this is not a compliant but more a note for the host to recognise and make necessary repair, brass cover plate just needs moving up a fraction.
But all in all a charming barn conversion and lovely place to stay.
Thanks. 😊

We had an absolutely fantastic time while staying at Swansea Valley Holiday Cottages. we stayed in Ty-Gambo and the overall property and facilities surpassed our expectations. The farm is nicely secluded in a very peaceful setting, but also not too far away from local amenities. The visitor guide book inside the property was absolutely incredible with so many useful pieces of information on what to do locally and where to explore. It made us realise that we will definitely have to come back again to see much more as we only got to visit a fraction of what was contained within. Richard, our host was extremely helpful and whilst we missed his call on arrival he did check in to make sure everything was ok and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit for a few days during the February half term.

Great place to stay with the family. Good quality home, great comms with owners and just a really nice and easy process when arriving. Nice to be in a holiday rental where things like the Internet, heating etc are all set up and without any faff. Would recommend
