Super Private Custom Built Home on 388 acres.
This is a one-of-a-kind vacation rental because of the level of privacy and the large piece of property that is exclusively yours to use and explore. You will have the entire property (388 acres) all to yourself to enjoy. note- (occasionally the landowners may be staying in a cabin at the other end of the property about 3/4 of a mile away but this does not disturb the privacy or quietness of the house) . The house is a beautiful custom built home with hardwood cherry floors, two large redwood decks, four bedrooms and two baths, a family room, living room, dining room and is in one of the most beautiful locations that you can imagine. It is like renting a park without any other people. Located in the redwood belt you can enjoy miles of trails along cascading streams and little waterfalls that run through fern covered redwood forests. Swim in the pond, bike or hike along the trails, (kids can catch crawdads in the pond). The quietness of the property is truly amazing and is like nothing you will find anywhere else.

The custom built home is well maintained and has many homelike qualities. There is a large play set for the children and a gas barbeque for entertaining. A beautiful creek runs past the front of the house and two ponds are on the property. One of the ponds is only 100 feet from the house. There are numerous species of wildlife including hawks, owls, pond turtles, river otters, and great blue herons to name a few.
There are two decks, one is covered and faces the pond and the other faces a meadow with 250 year old oak trees. The kids can pitch a tent in the adjacent meadows and explore the forests and creeks while you lay in the hammock among the oak trees.
This rental is as close to a wilderness adventure as you can get without actually having to rough it.
Holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day Fourth of July etc) are charged at normal summer rates and may have longer minimum stay periods.

The house was exactly what we expected. My husband had a great time exploring the trails. Am wondering the property. Wish it hadn’t snowed on us though but was beautiful to see. We’d love to return to this property in the summer to see it at a different time. There were 5 of us along with two dogs a still plenty of room a beds. Plus we had company from other family that lives in willits. Would w been nice not to have to lea e at 330am but overall we truly enjoyed our stay. We did have gate problems that when I called Art he fixed right away. So he was very helpful a nice. We did run into a neighbor on the single road after the gate an had a small issue of trying to get around but was an easy fix. Thanks for letting us use your home. We hope to be able to do it when it’s warmer.

This is a peaceful and wonderful comfy house in the woods. It is off grid, and we had a lovely time maintaining a fire, going for walks, playing games, watching movies, and overall detaching from the world. It is quiet and beautiful, we'll definitely come back again!

The only sounds you could hear from the property were the natural sounds of the woods. No other property within 66 acres of woodlands, and almost none withing 3 miles. Just a lovely place for a small family vacation.

The property is beautiful and the house was lovely. We had plenty of room and the outside area was so wonderful for our dogs to play and explore. They especially loved the pond. There was a hiking trail and a deserted road for walking. Art was great about responding to questions before we arrived and check in was easy. I would definitely stay here again.

Art was super nice and helpful! The property was gorgeous with redwood trees all around it and the house was fully stocked with anything you need kitchen and laundry wise. We swam in the pond and it felt surprisingly clean even though it’s a pond. Long drive in with gravel parts, but fun nonetheless! Lots of activities to do around the house such as frisbee golf, hot tub, rope swing, and hiking trails to name a few! The wifi worked perfectly and you could stream movies on the tv easily. Overall loved our stay!

What a magical space! We did a last minute Easter visit and our family ranging from babies to grandparents had a wonderful time. The house was beautifully clean and had many of the small items(baby gate, highchair) that make traveling with little kids so much easier. The property itself is stunning, our kids spent everyday outside playing by the creek or the large meadow & play structure. We already want to go back when all the flowers start blooming!

Me and 11 friends had planned a trip Tahoe to celebrate my upcoming wedding, but when the weather had other plans (during the crazy March storms) we booked this cabin instead as a safer option. The hosts were so kind to go check on the property beforehand to make sure it was safe to get to. The property is pretty remote, and on a gorgeous plot of land. It was well stocked, had beds for everyone, as well as 2 common spaces and a stocked kitchen. The hosts were available by text when we had questions and very kind. I definitely hope to return!

I have rented a lot of places over the years. But this one is definitely unique sad stands out. Complete isolation with acres of private serene nature all yours to enjoy. We were 5 adults and 3 teens had an amazing time. Communication with the owner was really good,

We had such a lovely time here. It ended up being pretty rainy while we were there, but the wood burning stove and the hot tub kept us nice and cosy. We all did several hikes around the property (beautiful redwoods and oaks, lots of ferns, moss and mushrooms, and the creek running right by the house). The kitchen is really well equipped: we made several great meals. We had 6 adults and 3 teens, plenty of sleeping space for all. Overall a great spot, I'd be happy to go back again.

The owners of this home have created an amazing off-grid escape. We felt a million miles away despite the fact that Willits is only about 6 miles down the road. The clarity of the pond (the water is irrigated) was an incredible bonus. My dog would have been in heaven either way but my kids and I loved feeling clean and refreshed after our swims. The yard is amazing with lovely, soft grass and heaps of space. The kitchen is definitely dated but has everything you need. The downstairs bedroom is incredibly comfortable and my teenagers had no complaints about the upstairs beds so I gather they were also comfortable. The whole place has a wonderfully serene feeling and I wish we'd had longer than four days.

We had a family get together here for 3 nights. If you bring everything you need with you, it's easy to step out of the world for a few lovely days. Hiking trails right out the door, spacious decks for hanging out, 2 disc golf baskets, creek, pond, quiet. All of us were sad to check out and are already talking about a return visit.

Beautiful green refuge
The property was an utter treat, the location is tranquil, verdantly and restful. The home amenities provide all you need, even if of another time. The beds were super comfortable and the linens were handsome and cozy. There are no jets in the hot tub, but we did not miss them at all...the location makes up for it. In fact, jets would have taken away from the sweet sounds of nature. Personally, I don't think the pictures on VRBO do the place justice. It feels far more expansive than the pictures show. Look for the shy turtle in the pond!

lovely, sweet house
we enjoyed our time here. the first day was cold and rainy, but there was PLENTY of wood for us to use in the wood burning stove. the sunny days were lovely and so very quiet. Lots of little salamanders and lizards and we heard owls and frogs. a good spot for a family to spend some time away from the city.
only downside was the water ran out on our last day. we don't use a ton of water, but we cooked and washed a lot of dishes. the owners were attentive and the instructions were good. the locks are a little tricky.

Almost the last home on the road. Very secluded, and private. The deer family own the property, you could almost walk up and feed them. Very nice home with lots of room, comfy beds. A piece of paradise. Thanks for sharing your home.

Weonderful weekend getaway
We went as a large family and the cootage was very spacious and well furnished. We enjoyed everything from hiking to the hot spa to watching stars and BBQ dinners in the back porch.
Everything was very easiliy setup.
I was very impressed that this cottage is completely off the grid for electricity and water. (Electricity is completely solar with generator back up, water is through a local spring)
No cell coverage, but yes internet! It all worked out pretty well
Be prepared to take all your food needs with you - while it is a 20 min drive to town, its a waste of time, while you are at this cottage getaway

In the woods
Nice house with lawn and hiking in the woods surrounding the house. Spend lots of time on the deck during the day. Enjoyed the hot tub. Because of the drought conditions the pond wasn’t usable but looks like it would be fun if full. Overall a nice getaway for our family’s reunion.

Beautiful home in the woods
Just a few miles from town this beautiful home nestles near a creek (nearly dry in July 2021) and small pond surrounded by trees. Lovely property and well-loved home with plenty of space for our group of 5 adults and 5 kids aged 1-9. We enjoyed getting away from it all, watching the stars and bats from the hot tub, trekking through the woods and the kids loved swimming and exploring the pond.

The Perfect Getaway!
We decided to take our 6 month old baby and our dog on our first getaway as a family. Art's home fit our needs perfectly. Our dog had the time of his life and we all enjoyed a peaceful weekend. The house is adorable and the land gorgeous. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all. This is it!

Fantastic place
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The surroundings are absolutely gorgeous, including a little pond that one can swim in (it was a little on the cold side but my 11 year old managed :). The house itself has a lot of character and very comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped, showers are hot and powerful, and beds are nice. I could nto recommend this enough, and we will be back!

Get Away
Just as described. This is like having a nature preserve to yourself. The house is lovely, too. Just be prepared for the fact that you're 20 minutes from town, and about 90 minutes from the coast. If you're good just enjoying all the property has to offer, and/or don't mind driving to do other things, this is a great spot. The owner was responsive and helpful as well.

A Magical Wooded Grove
Lovely rustic historic property with every comfort. Once you go through the gate the land is lovely and secluded with a beautiful stream running near the side of the road. The house is roomy and welcoming with lovely front and back decks and many homey areas to gather together. The beds are comfortable and the hot tub was relaxing after a day of hiking and exploring. You can let your dog run wild We want to return!

Relaxing cabin in the woods
We really enjoyed our stay! The land around the home is amazingly quiet - you can hear the wings of birds flapping. The outdoor space and easy hiking right out the door combined with a cozy home made for a great experience. However, the house was different than described. Some of the aspects that made it such a great experience were not ones we anticipated. The house has electricity, but care has to be taken to not use too much at one time, and there's not many electricity-dependent appliances (kitchen has stove and fridge but no dishwasher, microwave, toaster). We were there at a time with low water levels, so the water came of the faucets very slowly (and the showers was a trickle). Nevertheless, we really enjoyed ourselves - the whole setup really made us slow down, relax, and feel quite cozy.

We had a truly wonderful time at the house and are already planning on going back! The layout of the house is perfect for a big group (we were 9 total) and everyone was very comfortable. We loved spending mornings on the front porch, lunch time by the pond and the evenings in the back of the house. It was peaceful, calm and truly restorative time for kids and adults. Plenty of space indoor/outdoor and activities for kids. Great communication with the owners.

Private Nature Preserve
This is a wonderful place. The setting could not be more idyllic. The space around the house is magnificent and there is a redwood forest with all the trimmings, ferns, clover, moss, undisturbed creek, etc. The little pond is pretty much alive...salamanders galore in there...
The house is clean. Beds are good. Sheets are nice. Nothing is fancy at all which is a plus. In all the ways it mattered to me, this place works. If you are a chef, (I’m not) bring a knife and maybe a few other things, etc. The knives are crazy dull which adds to the charm. Mariposa Market is the place to grocery shop if you don’t bring it all in with you.
The owners are great. Friendly. Hardly saw them but was happy to do so when we did.
Even though I imagine it could accommodate as many people as it says, I would probably draw the line at 10 people for reasons that have to do with the size of the kitchen. Our group was 4 mostly. 6 for a few days. Plenty of space for us.
The weather has been perfect. Hot in the sun, cool in the shade. The house stays cool enough. The windows and screens are well maintained which I appreciate.
There is wireless but it’s weak. Enough for us grownups and not enough for teenagers. Forget streaming a movie. There’s a dvd collection from the 80s-90s that’s fun.
My dogs never had a better time on their whole lives.

Perfect Forest Retreat
I rent a house every year for my birthday party and have friends old and new drive in for the weekend. This is the fourth rental I've had and it's been the BEST so far! We went at the beginning of February and everything was lush and green. The property is super secluded and private; no noise except the streams, birds, and frogs. The hot tub is perfect for chilly mornings and evenings. The deck also has a bbq grill and fire pit we loved using, with plenty of extra propane available. There is a pretty hiking trail next to the pond and the walk down the driveway to the gate is also very nice.
The house itself felt bigger than the photos and we easily accommodated all of our guests (although you have to be ok with sleeping on couches or the floor on air mattresses.) Kitchen was well-stocked overall, minus not having a microwave, but that was ok since we spent a lot of time cooking. 3 cast iron pans were available and a large wok. There is a bluetooth speaker that connects to two more speakers mounted on the wall, so our music was audible all throughout downstairs without getting too loud.
Overall decor isn't luxurious but everything we needed was there! We will definitely be back!

Off Grid Luxury in a Beautiful Forest
I loved staying at this house. I got the privacy I wanted (which is hard to find in a rental) while still having all the amenities, including an amazing hot tub, deep cast iron tub, lots of comfy pillows/blankets/couches and a roaring wood stove. Not to mention the surrounding forest, creek, pond and oak meadow with a hammock. Yes, we had to mess around with some of the utilities but the host got back to us quickly about any problems and we got everything sorted out! 5 Stars! Highly Recomend!

Bears beware
Had a great trip with family at this lovely home. I would come back and stay here again. There was a little bear problem with the garbage can and there were a few yellow jacket nests on the property but besides that this is a great property. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a getaway.

A Keeper
An awesome location for an extended family vacation which included 5 adults, 5 kids 10 to 16, and a dog. The lovely home was roomy on the interior and complimented by a deck in back and covered porch in front. The kitchen was well supplied with cookware and utensils. The oven was a bit problematic - temperature controls not accurate so check your goodies. We all loved the pond and spent many hours watching the turtles, salamanders, snakes, minnows, tadpoles, dragonflies, butterflies etc. The property is expansive with trails and logging roads to explore. The wildlife presence is evident through telltale signs and observation. It was kind of like having a national park all to yourself. It was incredibly quiet - no cars, trains, airplanes, drones - just peacefulness surrounded by the sounds of nature. We highly recommend this property if you are looking for a get away that is truly remote. Haschaks were prompt in dealing a couple of minor problems. We are hoping to return during the non fire season so we can enjoy the wood cook stove and wood burner.
