Modern, clean and comfortable lodge, but think twice if you like flexibility, choice and options
The Lodge is very modern, immaculate interiors, very comfortable and warm rooms and super clean. The bathroom was very modern and spacious with lots of storage room in the shaving cabinet and under sink. The bedroom whilst quite small was everything we needed. There was an amazing amount of wardrobe storage in our room (we only stayed the weekend but if we had been there for 2 weeks there was enough storage space for lots of clothes and gear). The ski storage locker and drying room downstairs were very well catered for with allocated room racks for ski gear drying. I give the lodge 10/10 for the interiors and cleanliness.
Being a ski lodge, the primary pastime for people would be skiing either on their day of arrival or departure, and one would expect that the option to have your bags stored would be complimentary like it is at all the other lodges in Perisher. Instead the offer was presented to us at a charge of $100 each time. I worked in the travel industry for over 15 years and never encountered hotels charging to store your luggage pre/post you staying with them unless they are offering you early/late room access which was not the case. The lodge is located about 600m up the hill, which they clearly outlined on their website. You can ski down to the lifts if there is adequate snow cover and whilst there is a little bit of a hill half way down which you need to walk up this is not a major hurdle. For those wanting an oversnow transfer to the lifts one can be arranged complimentary - BUT it's only at 8:45am (no flexibility - that's the only time slot available). Returning back up to the lodge of an afternoon, again complimentary, BUT only between 3:30pm and 4:30pm ... so you can forget that Apres drink at the bar to listen to a band or watch the sun setting over the mountain range - otherwise your trip back to the lodge will cost you a private oversnow transfer. Not sure why the time rigidity considering they utilize the third party oversnow that service the resort all day and night. If they are covering the cost of your transfer back to the lodge what does it matter if it's at 3:30pm or 6pm. Then there was the food - just as there's no choice/alternate options to the menu, there's also no flexibility for meal time - 6:30pm dinner is served and that's it. Breakfast was only marginally better, cereal, toast, condiments & coffee/tea is put out the night before so you can help yourself in the morning, but the hot served plate portion is only served at 8am and there's no choice or selection.
