The Sardinia region
Located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia with its app. 1,800 km of coastline, it is one of the most popular destinations for people who love water sports and beach holidays, not only for its natural beauty and geographical position, but also for its history.
It is neither a coincidence nor a fashion that today Sardinia is the favorite destination of many tourists. The sea around this large Mediterranean island (second only to Sicily in terms of size among all the Mediterranean islands) is among the most beautiful and transparent in the world. Indeed DH Lawrence in his famous book 'The Sea and Sardinia' wrote that Sardinia was a land like no other and the Sardinian writer Marcello Serra entitled one of his famous books 'Sardinia: almost a continent', to underline the uniqueness of the Sardinian landscapes and the great and profound differences between the various regions of the island that make Sardinia similar to a continent.
In reality, the Sardinian people are famous for their spontaneous hospitality and, like all the islanders, thirst for contact with the outside world.
People who visit Sardinia can discover not only one of the most beautiful and original places in the world, but also an unforgettable holiday. Sardinia offers visitors a wide range of gastronomic specialties from the ancient culinary traditions of the shepherds to the gastronomic specialties of the sea coast. Sardinia is rich in craftsmanship and art, its rugs, baskets, ceramics and their own gold filigree jewels are both unique and of the highest quality.
Municipalities and cities of Sardinia, especially those along the coast, have a rich tradition of fish and seafood, while inland towns and cities are known for game and agricultural products. Over the centuries, the mixing of these traditions has evolved into a unique gastronomic experience. Olbia, Stintino, Castelsardo, Alghero, Bosa and Oristano are some of the cities where you can try this cuisine. Cagliari is one of the main fishing ports of Italy and it is not surprising that the gastronomic traditions are based on seafood and fish.
Stintino
The origins of Stintino date back to 1885, a settlement of 45 families, mainly linked to fishing that came from the Asinara Island. Previously, the territory was populated by settlements of shepherds who lived in natural shelters.
The town became an autonomous municipality on August 10, 1988. The first elections and the appointment of the city council took place in March 1989.
The village develops inside two inlets where there are small ports. They are side by side, the old port called 'Minori' (small) and a new port called 'Mannu' (large).
Many events and shows are organized for tourists and residents during the summer season. Among the important annual festivals is a regatta at the end of August called 'Regatta della Vela Latina'. We also recommend visiting the Tuna Museum at the new port.
The most famous beach is called 'La Pelosa', but there are others, equally beautiful, such as 'Saline', 'Pazzona' and 'Ezzi Mannu'. The 'Pelosa' beach is certainly one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia. Its water is so delicious that it is difficult to find another similar place in Italy. Its turquoise color, transparency and fine white sand make 'Pelosa' beach more similar to tropical places rather than Mediterranean ones. Apart from the lack of tropical fish, a particular type of vegetation you remember that you are in Sardinia: the Mediterranean scrub, also present on the beach.
The most important events handed down by the cultural tradition of Stintino are: rural festival of S. Isidoro May, Tuna Fest (Tuna Festival) in June, Latin Sail Boat Race (Regatta della Vela Latina) the last week of August, the feast of the Blessed Virgin of Didesa in September and the feast of San Nicola at the end of September.
This splendid location offers numerous leisure opportunities, both of a sports nature (sailing, windsurfing, golf, tennis, trekking, horseback riding, etc.) and of a cultural nature (music concerts, exhibitions, museums, etc.)

The house is pleasant and clean with a very nice garden where our two kids played a lot! With kids it is better to go to the beach and restaurants by car (short ride 3 to 5 minutes!).
We were in August and the weather was really nice, thankfully not too hot since the house does not have air conditionning. But the fans and open windows it was really fine for us. We definitely recommend this house!
