About this house rental

Upscale centrally air-conditioned lakefront cottage with 75 feet of lakefront property and a Landlord who lives to make you as comfortable as possible. Lovely Kinderhook Lake, a wonderful 375 acre lake, is as good for swimming as it is for fishing. The Native Americans called this lake 'Great Fish Lake' and today it still yields, among others, Walleye, Northern Pike, Perch, and Bass. A private road leads onto our well maintained property which has been family owned for three generations.Ideally located in the best of all possible worlds! The Upper Hudson River Valley is outside your door while the best of the Berkshires is a stone's throw away and all the while your own 'private' lake is reflected into your living room through house-wide glass doors and windows!

The original cottage named 'The Doll House' was razed in 2007 and a new Craftsman type Bungalow was constructed in 2009. The new home consists of 2200 square feet containing a gourmet kitchen, and ample closet space on all floors. The views from almost everywhere in this home, designed by a popular local architect, are spectacular and the room planning was well is even a nice, bright laundry room in the basement with stereo speakers . .... And a spot to place the ironing board upright and leave it that way if you care to! There is an extra 'bonus' area in the basement available for an additional rental charge. Sofa bed, loveseat, plus a lovely 3/4 bathroom, 4 large windows and separate entrance define this lower level.

The kitchen with great views of the lake, features the most up to date conveniences and generously sized peninsula with 2 stools for watching sailboats glide by during your lunch.
ATTENTION:SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT: ARE YOU TOO TIRED TO COOK AFTER HOURS OF SWIMMING AND/OR ANTIQUING? CHEF JERRY MOHR A DEGREED FRENCH CHEF CAN COME TO THE DOLL HOUSE AND PREPARE ANY (OR ALL!) MEALS FOR YOU! or WE CAN MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR YOU TO ATTTEND HIS MANY AND VARIED SCHEDULED, PUBLIC COURSES. THESE CLASSES ARE ENJOYED IN HIS HISTORIC REVOLUTIONARY HOME IN MALDEN BRIDGE.
There is a large desk area in the kitchen to work on your computer away from the activity of the rest of the house, but within view of a small TV and that lovely North end lake view again. The Guest Bedroom on this floor, with Queen bed and on-wall flat panel TV is 12+ by 12 feet with an ample closet and views of the back field and birch tree behind the house. The full bathroom across the hall features a window, pedestal sink, and full sized bathtub/shower combination. These 2 rooms are located off the entrance hallway and with the glass pocket door at the end of this hallway closed, it will afford complete privacy for the sleepyheads on this main floor. The living room commands panoramic views of the North to South orientation of the lake which my returning clients have come to know and love. Now that view however, has been enlarged and improved with an Andersen Frenchwood Glider extending 12 feet across the West elevation with help from additional fixed doors. Turning the corner towards the North elevation are 3 very large windows. At the opposite end there is a wall of stone punctuated by a propane fueled fireplace and 2 small windows. All windows in the house are able to be covered using fashionable Bali top down/bottom up cellular shades and in the Living Room the expansive 'wall of glass' can become a warm, cozy place by closing the floor to ceiling Bali 'Vertiglides' provided. Most windows are also covered by a second window treatment to add to the warmth and character of the home.

Upstairs you will find a comfortable Library with built-in bookshelves and a private entrance into the shared Master Bath. The Master Bath has a separate frameless stall shower and views of the lake that will encourage you to linger, along with a large soaking tub. The adjoining Master Bedroom contains his and hers 6 foot closets with an electric fireplace in between! The Master, measuring 15'5' by almost 14 overlooks the entire lake with 3 large windows including a Palladian in the center. One more small room upstairs is a sitting room facing south which could serve as a third bedroom when/if necessary. Otherwise it will make for a quiet retreat to read or take a much needed nap in the ample leather recliner.

There is a gorgeous stone patio with dining table and chairs directly off the Living Room that overlooks the lake. Stairs that lead down to the water's edge take you to a deck where there is additional furniture for swimming, relaxation and lake enjoyment.

Close proximity to Tanglewood; Saratoga; SPAC; Hunter Mountain, Brody, Jimmney Peak; Lenox and Lee, Mass clothing outlets; Catskill Mountains attractions, many summer stock theaters and Lake George. You can visit President Martin Van Buren's house and Norman Rockwell's Museum in the same day, return to the lake, enjoy a cookout and one of the most beautiful sunsets ever! Only 2 hours 20 minutes north of New York City.

Do not recommend.
Unfortunately, I would not recommend this lodging choice for families with kids. It also might be a challenge for anyone who prefers a hands-off, sit-back-and-relax approach to vacation. The house is loved dearly by its owners, and sometimes I believe such houses should probably just not be rented out in the first place. Inside the house are dozens and dozens of notes documenting "careless renters" of rentals past - in the linen closet, on the cupboards, on the windows, on the mirrors. My husband and I are both physicians and we have three young kids. We were hoping for a relaxing weekend getaway, much needed given our crazy schedules. Little did we know that renting this property for a weekend would turn out to be the biggest headache I've had in awhile. Specifically, we weren't prepared for the wrath we would experience for not having every sheet and towel in the house washed and folded by the time we left, every pillow in place, every toy on the shelf, every shower glass squeegied. Given we got there at 11pm on Friday and left 11am on Sunday, this was a difficult challenge to meet in the first place. I'm pretty sure I couldn't accomplish these tasks in my own home, let alone a vacation home (that, as a reminder, we paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars to rent). Regarding the shower.. we received numerous requests to clean the shower after each and every use, and although we tried to find time to do this, we paid the price for our lack of squeegying skills. Not only did the cleaning lady email the owner that our baby's diaper "stunk up the house" she also commented that we "most definitely did not use the shower squeegee". As a mother, I was embarrassed by the fact I left behind a diaper and I apologized. Instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt that this was accidental and we were rushing to make our exit deadline, the owner didn't hesitate to write to me personally: "I fear my notes did little to encourage you to keep the home as you would your own. I have 4 children, 8 grandchildren and never has any of my daughters or daughters-in-law ever left a dirty diaper in a kitchen garbage pail." She threatened to take part of our deposit for all of the above. In summary, we will not be going back to this rental ever again. After dozens of VRBO experiences, this was by far the most painful of them all.

Beautiful updated home on the lake...peace and comfort combined
Beautiful updated home on the lake...peace and comfort combined
This property is exactly as pictured and does not disappoint. Beautiful modern features and open floor plan that lead out to a spacious patio and is right on the water. This is a 4 season home and can be enjoyed all year round. Only 4-5 homes on the road and very private. It has all the comforts of home-great bedrooms, baths, a fantastic kitchen, big garage, washer, dryer, dishwasher, multi zone AC, wireless internet, many TV's but it's the views that take your breath away. There is a private dock that is great for fishing, kayaking, lounging and swimming. The lake is big enough to enjoy various water sports but small enough to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the lake (sunsets are beyond words). The location is fantastic being so close to the Capital District (Albany/Schenectady/Troy). For the foodies- La Bella in Valatie has the most amazing pizza and Italian fare only a few miles away on Route 9 and next to a Hannaford supermarket. Mary (The host) is great and very attentive. This was our 2nd year visiting and would recommend her and this home over and over.

Quiet, relaxing getaway
Quiet, relaxing getaway
We had a lovely stay at this home. The home was beautiful and clean. The area and home was quiet and just perfect for us to relax when we weren't out and about. Only a 30 minute (or less) drive to the train station and the FASNY museum. Owner was very attentive to anything we may have needed. Recommend the little restaurant (I think it was Main Street!?) for breakfast! Would recommend! We hope to be back some day!

Refreshing Vacation With Beautiful Setting
Refreshing Vacation With Beautiful Setting
If you are looking for a vacation where you will return home rested and refreshed, then you have come to the right place. You won't be dissapointed by choosing this beautiful setting in one of New York state's prettiest areas. An attractive, spotless home, right on the lake's waterfront. We visted from 2500 miles away in Vancouver, BC, and would defintely come again. The photos and description of the home and surroundings are accurate. The owner is as pleasant and helpful as you will find anywhere. Some of the things we enjoyed: Morning coffee outside on lake's edge; kayaking; walking; visitng by the fireplace; sightseeing and shopping in Albany; touring quaint villages in rural settings; local markets and stores; eating out in Hudson.

Perfect vacation spot
Perfect vacation spot
Just returned from two weeks at this glorious home. Quiet, quiet secluded lake but within driving distance of many, many tourist attractions, great super market and restaurants. The house had everything; our hostess was caring but not hovering. We'll be back!!

beautiful place to stay
beautiful place to stay
To start with, Mary (the owner) is the most wonderful person to deal with. She was responsive immediately to all of my questions. Before arriving at her place, I knew we would have a quality experience and I was not disappointed!! Her place is better than the pictures! I am a stickler for clean and Mary obviously is also. Everything has been well maintained and her place is homey and inviting. We all slept better than I ever sleep away from home! The lake is lovely, and the grocery store is close. I would rent here again in a heartbeat. I can't imagine staying in a nicer place!
