Testing as an Alternative to Quarantine
Visitors travel to Maine to enjoy our scenery, our outdoors, our restaurants, and our stores. They neither want to quarantine upon arrival nor want to risk their own health when venturing out in places with visitors from across the nation. The same holds true for people with second homes in Maine or Mainers whose work takes them out of state for periods of time.
Under Keep Maine Healthy,
The State will allow adults who obtain and receive a negative COVID-19 test from a specimen taken no longer than 72 hours prior to arrival to forgo the 14-day quarantine upon arrival in Maine. This test indicates that, even when coming from areas with a higher prevalence of the disease than Maine’s, such visitors are unlikely to have COVID-19 and to spread it to Maine residents and other visitors. Individuals may be tested in Maine, but they must quarantine while awaiting the results.
Maine is strongly urging visitors to “Know Before You Go,” and be tested and receive results in their home state before traveling to Maine, which will allow them to take appropriate action depending on the result. Websites like Get Tested COVID-19 show local testing options nationwide.
The State will exempt residents of New Hampshire and Vermont from the testing and 14-day quarantine requirement altogether, effective immediately for travel and effective June 12 for stays in lodging establishments. When adjusted for population, the prevalence of active cases of COVID-19 in these states is similar to that in Maine. There is no other state with as low a prevalence of COVID-19 within a 12-hour drive. The State will continue to evaluate possible additional exemptions based on trends in other states.
People who are not Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont residents must complete a Certificate of Compliance form indicating they have received a negative COVID-19 test result, that they will quarantine in Maine for 14 days, or that they have already completed their quarantine in Maine.
This Certificate of Compliance must be provided to check-in at all Maine lodging, campgrounds, seasonal rentals, and other commercial lodging, such as Airbnb. Visitors may be asked to furnish proof of the negative test result upon request.
This will become effective June 26, when lodging establishments may begin serving residents outside of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Signing a compliance form in order to stay in lodging establishments is also a policy employed by both the States of New Hampshire and Vermont.
The Department of Economic and Community Development will work closely with lodging establishments to communicate the State’s new alternative to quarantine through reservations, which must be taken this summer, and work to advance the message of “Know Before You Go” urging people to be tested at their point of origin through reminders to guests.
The State’s newly-announced standing order –which allows for most individuals in Maine with elevated risk of exposure to get tested without an order from their own primary care provider – coupled with enhanced testing capacity in July resulting from an agreement with IDEXX, will support testing of tourism workers in Maine and serve as a back-up option for tourists who cannot be tested at home and commit to quarantining in Maine while awaiting results.
NOW... about the property & surrounding area!

It has a kitchen, a deluxe queen bed and a queen sofa bed to sleep four comfortably. There are beautiful southerly views of Lowells Cove & the Atlantic Ocean. Let the lapping of the waves lull you to sleep as you dream of your next days adventures in Maine.

Or perhaps you might feel like refreshing morning walk, or bike ride to Bailey Island for a delicious breakfast at the quaint Giant Stairs restaurant...note to self ''must have The Giant Stairs reuben and amazing onion rings...delish!!'' Or right next store 'B.I.G.S.' (Bailey Island General Store) for some great breakfast sandwiches, pancakes etc., & all your immediate shopping needs. Next stop, Landsend, a tourist favorite gift shop at the end of Bailey's Island, with a cozy beach and plentifully y of rocks for climbing all while enjoying the beautiful views of nearby islands.
Next stop visit the home of world famous L.L Bean in Freeport , home of the original outlet stores, and just a thirty minute scenic ride from your island getaway! Speaking of fun in the sun how about grabbing the gang for a picnic or BBQ at Reid State Park. Today, thousands of visitors enjoy the park's long, wide sand beaches like Mile and Half Mile, which are rare in Maine. Enjoyed as a recreational resource, the beaches are also essential nesting areas for endangered least terns and piping plovers and resting and feeding areas for other shorebirds. Rarer than beaches along Maine's coast are large sand dunes, like those at Reid. From the top of Griffith Head, a rocky headland overlooking the park, you can view sweeping seascapes and spot the lighthouses on Seguin Island, The Cuckolds, and Hendricks Head. You can also see several islands, including: Damariscove, a thriving fishing community in Colonial times.

Note to self...''Must go on a Whale Watching tour!''
Wherever you go whatever you do, perhaps its just grabbing a good book a glass of lemonade & heading down to the cove to search for sea glass. You needn't go far to immerse yourself in the beauty & pleasures of Maine here at you Orr's island getaway!

The listing & photos were confusing. The photos make it look like there’s a bedroom. The listing says there are 2 futons, but no bed. In reality there is a Queen sized bed & a pull out couch. The listing stated there is a hot tub. Which honestly was one of the reasons we booked, there was no hot tub. If you have Verizon there is barely any cell service on the whole island & the wifi at the apartment was horrible. We honestly wouldn’t have minded so much but we were having problems with our flights. So to even make a call or get on the internet we had to drive 20 min away. If you are sensitive to smoke, this might not be the place for you. To get to the apartment you walk through the garage, it smells like someone smokes in there. The checkout process was also kind of confusing. The binder they provided had instructions for a completely different place & nothing in it applied to the apartment. The hosts were very nice & very responsive to messages which was wonderful. All in all, not a bad place but for the cost we wouldn’t book again.

Orrs Island is a beautiful little spot for a vacation. We went to Wolf Neck state park in Freeport for walking trails near the coastline and saw 2 fledgling Osprey on the wing. Shopping at LL Beans. Lunch at Cooks and all Gluten free at Sundrenched restaurant.

Wonderful stay and beautiful location. Only advice would be to bring bottled water for drinking as the well water has a strong smell. Great hosts and clean space.

My partner and I and our two dogs just got home from a week at Sheacliff. Even though we had some rain, the area is absolutely beautiful and so quiet and relaxing. We got so many great recommendations from the host. Our pups loved swimming in the water at low tide and walking around the numerous nearby hiking trails !

Our stay here on Orrs Island was so relaxing. Mark made sure everything we wanted was taken care of. The yard and neighborhood were great for enjoying the weather. Our dog really enjoyed the walk down to the ocean. This location is convenient to see Maine and surrounding area. Was just what we needed for a getaway! Thank you Mark!

The property has everything you need. Not right on the water, but has a very nice patio with a lovely view.
The added taxes and various fees are making another visit unlikely inspite of the reasonable base price of the unit. Also, if a cleaning fee is included, should a guest be asked to empty trash, strip the bed, etc??

My fiancé and I stayed at this wonderful location for a two week vacation during the summer (July- August). First, the hosts, Mark, Kevin and Shirley are wonderful. They are generous with their time, detailed with their explanations of what the island's have to offer, and Mark even saved the day for me and brought me lemons I needed for the dinner that I was making on the day I propsed to my fiancé. The area is beautiful, lovingly manicured, and the view of the cove from the picnic table outside is stunning. It's nice to be off of the main road and nestled in such a cozy, quiet space. The property is an above-garage guest suite with an open floor plan and one full bathroom with plenty of space. It was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen was equipped well enough to cook meals, which we did several times. The place also has a window AC unit, which is a boon when it's hot outside. This place is absolutely lovely for a single or a couple, I highly recommend staying here and look forward to a return visit!

We had a wonderful time on the ORR’s Island. The property is on a quiet street off the main road. It was peaceful and the views are lovely. It was the perfect size for my daughter and I. We had everything we needed and the host were just a phone call away.

Seaside gem!
We had a lovely stay at Sheacliff. Mark is a great host and gave us plenty of area tips and ideas. The studio was perfect for the two of us and our dog, Penny! It was clean and has everything you need, including a nice new propane grill on the patio. The view from the unit and the grounds is amazing. We could hear the waves crashing every night! Harpswell is a special place, and Sheacliff is a great base to experience it. We hope to come again soon!

Very happy with our Maine stay
Orr’s Island is quitessentiall Maine; rocky coast, weathered grey cottages, sweet villages, great clams and lobster shacks. Our host Mark most accommodating with check-in, the garage apartment is well appointed and well equipped for cooking in. We most enjoyed the private patio over looking the cove. We will return.

We loved it!!
This rental is an over garage studio apartment. When we drove up, I knew instantly this place is a real gem. Water views of Lowell Cove are great. It takes 60 seconds to walk down the yard, go across the road and climb down the rocks onto the beach. And it is a private beach! Mark was in the apartment seeing to things and making sure everything was just right for us. He and his sister were so welcoming! Everything that you need is there. The place was very neat and clean. The little kitchen has everything you would need to prepare any meal. The queen bed has a new mattress and a plush topper with very nice linens. Plenty of pillows too. The pull out couch has a new mattress also. Our brother and sister-in-law slept on it and said they were very comfortable. There’s a nice flat screen TV on the wall and has premium cable channels, Along with a DVD player that sits on the dresser. (That is full size and has lots of drawers) The closet has good space, with plenty of hangers, an iron, and extra pillows, linens, and blankets. There is a beautiful space outside with chairs and a fire pit, with wood to use in the garage. There is also a gas grill there that is for guests to use. It was so very relaxing and homey. There is room for 4 sleep, but since it’s a studio, there isn’t privacy. It worked out fine for us because we are a close family. We would definitely stay here again.

Location and Charm!
Stayed at a charming VRBO with hospitable hosts who welcomed me and provided an orientation of the property and area amenities. Offering a lovely property with a firepit and grill if I wished to use it. As it is located on an island, it is important to note that although really great restaurants, amazing history and scenery, and good trails for hiking are all around, it is important to note that gas stations are about 20 min. away.
A nice grocery store is also about the same. Worth the travel, though, for sure!

If you are looking for a private, quiet place to rest your head, this is the place. Not in a touristy area (which is a good thing) but only a short drive to Portland and Freeport.

My husband and I stayed here the weekend after labor day to celebrate our anniversary. This is a super clean, well appointed apartment perfectly situated near the end of Orrs Island. We took beautiful walks in the mornings and spent an incredible day at Reid State Park on Mile Beach on Saturday. The location is perfect -- away from the super touristy areas, but close enough to beaches, shopping, restaurants, and more tourist destinations if you want to indulge in that. We ate in Booth Bay Friday night and at Cook's Ale House on Bailey Island on Saturday night. We got delicious sandwiches from the General Store a mile before Reid State Park for our beach day. Mark was a lovely, helpful, genuine host who helped us find oysters, lent us his oyster knife (and a lemon!) and made us feel incredibly welcome. He even left us a bottle of sparkling rose to celebrate our anniversary! Would not hesitate to stay here again.

The perfect spot!
We loved it! The hosts were wonderful and so accommodating, and the apartment was adorable. It was perfect for the two of us and our puppy, very private and a greta spot to get everyone on Orrs Island and Bailey Island. It's also a great spot to stay to do a day trip to Booth Bay and the surrounding area. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed.

So great!
We had an amazing stay on Orr's Island, a true retreat. Mark was such a kind and welcoming host, had lots of recommendations for nature trails and was both present/available & respectful of our private space. The outdoor area with views of the cove was so spectacular - we grilled every night and enjoyed the bonfire. We were wow'd upon arrival at the cleanliness, simple and tasteful decorations and furniture, and would stay here again in a heartbeat. We got used to the sulfurous water very quickly, and bought a couple $3.50 2.5 gallon jugs for drinking water which worked fine. The shower's a little stinky but literally not a single other complaint about this property! We enjoyed stargazing and enjoying the tranquility of the neighborhood. Would love to stay again! Thanks Mark & co!

I can't say enough about this location! It was a perfectly peaceful spot for a family vacation. Our young children loved the nearby swimming and hiking. We really felt like we were "away from it all" in this sweet little apartment. The hosts were lovely.

perfect location
Location is key. And this property is in the middle of it. This is great.
The tap water was a problem, smell and the color.
The Wifi Signal was a little weak, but manageable for simple communication with family and friends.
The owner was extremly friendly and welcoming.

Wonderful Place to stay on Orr's Island. Very Close to Bailey.
This was a perfect location with very friendly, active, and accommodating hosts. I have already recommended this to people that plan on visiting Maine. The studio is designed very intelligently and the furnishing is exceptionally comfortable to relax. The previous reviews regarding the smell coming from the water are accurate, but honestly, this was not something that would have dissuaded us from booking a second time and we are confident that the owners are looking to resolve it. Highly recommended overall!

Wonderful location, great studio apartment, very well equipped, light and bright space.
The ONLY problem we had was that the water issue, discussed in prior posts, continues to be a problem, though probably not as bad as it was for prior guests. The owner indicated that it had been fixed prior to our arrival, and when we first arrived it seemed fine, but after the second night water coming from the taps smelled of sulphur and while drinkable, wasn't all that pleasant. Plenty of bottled water in the fridge. Would definitely return, very very nice.
