About this house rental
If you want privacy, serenity, a private natural swimming pond, and an awe-inspiring view of a glacier, then you will feel right at home at this log house in the picturesque Squamish River valley. The Squamish River valley is off the beaten path between Vancouver and Whistler, with only about one hour to Vancouver and 45 minutes to Whistler. The valley is a broad, sunny oasis of lush cottonwood and alders in the flat valley bottom surrounded by steep slopes covered by ancient cedar, hemlock and fir. The mountains precipitously rise over 8000 feet to culminate in snow and ice-clad peaks of the Tantalus Range.
The cabin is nestled on a high terrace on five private tree covered acres. Depending on the season you arrive at the log house you will encounter a plethora of colorful ornamental trees, flowering magnolias, roses, lavenders, Japanese maples in beautiful oranges and reds, Persian perogias, beeches and many other tree species. The large surround deck features a pergola in which you can hoist a hammock and swing yourself to sleep in the lull of a nearby waterfall.
In 2013 we built a natural swimming pond and regeneration pond. This technology that has been developed in Europe uses natural filtration in which water is circulated through a volcanic filter substrate and then pumped back into the swimming pond via a 2 m high waterfall. Both ponds are surrounded by some 200 water plants which provide further water quality improvements. There are no chemicals in the water and it thus feels like swimming in a mountain lake. It also requires a minimum of maintenance.
The log house has 3 bedrooms total, an upstairs loft and two downstairs with two bathrooms. There is a wood burning sauna in its own separate log cabin. Unlike many log homes, this one has been designed to let a maximum of light filter into the cozy wood interior with 4 skylights, large picture windows and oversized tilt and turn windows in all four directions. You can heat the house with baseboard heaters, or better yet, by lighting a fire in an Austrian style ornamental tile fireplace. In 2012 we installed a floor heating system. Water is heated in the fireplace heat exchanger. Once a critical temperature is reached, the water is pumped underground through insulated Pex pipes. When you have the fireplace roaring, you'll eventually hear a creaking and that means toasty toes. (Update: Due to insurance restrictions, no woodburning fires are allowed on the property including the wood fire stove inside)
The cabin is child-friendly though children will have to be supervised when playing outside because of bears (black bears), and cougars (never seen one but they exist), plus there are large boulders that have about a two story drop.
As of March 2013 there is a 12 m x 5 m fenced-in unheated natural swimming pool (no chemicals). A small play cabin is located in front of the house for 1-5 year olds. The tree house in the images has been converted into a Bee House and houses our bee hives. The treehouse has become somewhat unsafe, and the bees needed a warm and dry place to live. The small playhouse is still available for small kids to play in.
Besides simply relaxing you have the entire spectrum outdoor activities at your feet. You can hike to a beautiful waterfall, some 8 km up valley, swim in Alice Lake while gazing at the Mount Garibaldi volcano. A 20 minute drive will bring you to the Squamish Chief, Canada's foremost rock climbing Mecca, or you can kite surf in Howe Sound known for its never ending winds. You can ride your mountain bike on the vast trail system that Squamish has to offer from beginner to extreme. A 40 minute drive will bring you to Callaghan valley, the cross-country and biathlon centre for Whistler. Another 10 minutes will bring you to the foot of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, where you can enjoy skiing from November until June. If you prefer canoeing, you can start right in Pillchuck Creek which borders the property and paddle a romantic creek to the broad meandering Squamish River that winds its way through untouched wilderness towards the ocean. Or go wild water rafting or kayaking on the wild Ashlu and Elaho Rivers. For anglers, the Squamish and Mamquam Rivers are famous for their salmon runs, with hundreds of bald eagles amassing in the fall to get their share of the protein.
A fifteen minute drive will get you to Brackendale where you can buy groceries or enjoy a hearty meal in a restaurant. Whatever your hearts delight, you will be sure to find it here.
There are two security cameras on the property one at the entrance and one on the upper balcony that oversees the pond area. The resolution is poor, one cannot identify individuals but can see if any wild or domestic animals jump or fall into the pond.

We knew we would enjoy a quiet retreat at this mountain cabin. We knew there would be plenty of space for our family of four to spread out and not be on top of one another. We knew there would be a glacial-clad Mountain View, and a natural pool / man-made pond.
What the photos didn’t reveal was how the landscaping and flora have filled in around the pond and cabin. There’s a charming wildness to the trees and plants as you drive up, and continues around each corner as you explore. Truly a plant- and tree-lover’s dream.
Thoughtful attention was paid when the owners added a natural pool / swimming pond. The picturesque pond and its habitat-supporting plants are in keeping with cottagecore / cabincore aesthetic.
The property is not overly-attended. Plants grow wild. Charming structures (a former treehouse-turned bee apiary, a shed for firewood, a child’s playhouse) dot the landscape around the cabin, but are less-safe for small ones to explore alone. While expansive and secluded, the property’s landscape and overgrowth doesn’t allow for extensive, full exploring. If the owners chose to add walking paths through the landscape in the future It would extend the ability to enjoy this already magical place even more fully.
Cabin interior appointments are humble and collected. You feel like you’re getting away to a comfortable, useable family retreat. One bedroom opens to the back porch via French doors, with views from bed to the Tantalus mountains.
We hope to return again.

Beautiful house with amazing porch...

The cabin was secluded and very private! The road leading up to the property was private and secured with a locking gate. There is a Seminary next door...We'll let's just say we didn't hear anything from any of the neighborhood properties, so we felt we had the place to ourselves.
From the back patio, the views were fantastic and reminded me of Bavaria.
Took our 1 yr old grandson to the small treehouse and he had fun "scribbling" on the chalk board with the provided chalk. We also took him to the pond and he enjoyed putting his feet into the water and throwing pebbles.
The cabin is fantastic, nicely appointed though the wood deck, handrails and wooden areas around the pond could all use a good coat of stain, (aka I didn't trust walking on the wooden bridge over the pond without falling-in, etc.).
There is a firepit nearby but the owner said that due to insurance reasons that there are no open fires with the exception of the propane gas grill, so set your expectations accordingly.
Considering the shape of the property, felt the price was somewhat high but the views were fantastic!

Beautifully maintained cabin. It is clearly a well loved family cabin with very thoughtful design. Kids enjoyed splashing their feet in the pond and the well-stocked toy chest. Adults enjoyed the views, comfy lounging furniture, and nice kitchen with really high quality cookware and basics like spices, tea, oil, etc. May was definitely shoulder season (too cold and rainy to swim, but it's fire season so a burn ban prevented us from using the sauna) but we would love to come back in summer and enjoy more of what the property and region have to offer!

My family enjoyed a quick get away to Monica’s beautiful log house and pond. Such a peaceful place. They enjoyed the bbq and swimming in the pond. Looking forward to visiting the Upper Squamish Valley again real soon!

We had such an amazing stay at Monica’s cabin! My husband, mother and two young boys, ages 4 and 1 1/2 stayed for the week. The cabin was clearly used to having children with so many fabulous toys and games tucked away to discover. Our 4 year old had a blast hiking through the woods around the cabin, picking huckleberries and swimming in the pond. We enjoyed the views and remote location. Monica was amazing at communicating beforehand and went above and beyond to make sure our stay went well.

The cabin is something out of a fairytale. This could not have been a better place to unplug with our family and enjoy the beautiful nature. I would recommend this property to anyone and everyone. Monica, the owner, was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The cabin was more stocked than any other VRBO we’ve rented, including a ton of games for the kids. We will cherish the memories we made here!

This is a beautiful home with a gorgeous garden, pool, meadow and view. It is log cabin style and easily accommodated the six of us, my husband and I our three grown children, one with a partner. It has 3 bedrooms, one has a sleeper sofa and bed, a large common area and giant deck with a view of a glacier. The kitchen was generously equipped with all we needed to make great meals which we ate both on the large picnic on the deck and inside. We swam in the pool, hiked in the surrounding area, and canoed on the river. I have never stayed in such a peaceful beautiful place.

My family and I stayed at this cabin for a week in December. There wasn’t anything that we needed that we didn’t find already stocked. The cabin was charming and inviting, set in the perfect location. Off the back deck there was a beautiful view of snow covered mountains. A perfect place to get away for quiet time with family and to enjoy the beauty of nature. It snowed during our stay, turning the landscape around us into a winter wonderland. It was absolute beautiful.
The owner was kind and communicated by email with me to make sure our arrival was smooth. Any questions I had were addressed in quick time.
We would stay here again if we turn to the area. We had s wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The cabin and surrounding property are rustic and natural but very well cared for. My children loved the treehouse and outdoor swimming pond, and there were lots of fun things for them to do on the property. The view of the glacier from the deck is amazing. The cabin was well outfitted with everything we needed, and Monica was very helpful in communicating any time we had a question. The location is ideal as well, close to Alice Lake, the gondola, hiking and rock climbing. We hope to come back for our next family vacation.

We stayed at the log house with friends from Australia and we were just captivated by the house and its setting. It was beautiful with the glacier view from the decking and the lovely garden and natural swimming pool (very cold but refreshing at the end of a busy day). The house was extremely comfortable and well equiped. It was really nice to sit down at night in front of the fire.
We enjoyed the feeling of being away from the "madding crowd" but the location was still close enough to enjoy visits to Whistler, Alice Lake and The Chief. The Gondola to the top of the Chief was a really good experience
Monica and Mathias were really helpful with the booking arrangements and information about the house and places to visit.
We really hope that we will be able to return to the Loghouse and would recommend it for a very relaxing break

We spent a full week at the cabin. Absolutely everything we expected and some. The views of the glacier were spectacular. The property was secluded but close enough to town to get everything we needed. Great location for day trips to Squamish, Vancouver and Whistler. The cabin had everything you could possibly need and the owners were just an email away if we had any questions. The property is well maintained and definitely a unique vacation destination. We would recommend it in a heart beat!

From the moment we drove up, it seemed like we had been transported into a fairy tale. The setting was hard-to-believe gorgeous, with lovely natural gardens and swimming pond, beautiful trees and mountain vistas off the deck of the handsome cabin home. A convenient location for trips to Vancouver and Whistler, and a very peaceful place to relax afterwards! Monica and Matthias were most accommodating; not getting the chance to thank them in person for their hospitality was our only regret.

Just the respite my kids and I needed to recharge in this peaceful and serene setting with stunning views. Easy drive to hiking and lots of options to choose from. Feel like you are so far removed from the hustle and bustle but close enough to town if you need something from the store. The house is stocked with pretty much everything you would need. Our only recommendation would be to add a microwave to reheat leftovers quickly or for popcorn. :) No complaints though because we thoroughly enjoyed our time at this beautiful home!

I recently spent just over a week at Monica's Loghouse Lodge with my wife, two kids (6 months and 2 1/2 years) and my parents. This is a phenomenal location with great views of glaciers from the back deck hammock as well as a much needed swimming pool (the early part of our stay had temperatures in the mid-high 30's). It was exactly the kind of break that we were looking for. Close enough to Vancouver that we didn't have to take extra vacation days to get there, but far enough removed that there is spotty cell access and you are truly disconnected. Monica was very helpful both prior to our trip (making sure she accommodated our young children) and while we were there (questions about garbage removal, etc). Overall the whole experience from booking, to arriving and enjoying our stay was very personal and welcoming. If you are looking for a place that's a true getaway I highly recommend Monica's Loghouse Lodge.
