Our family spent five days at this beautiful property but it was nowhere near long enough. Tom and Susie were the most perfect and thoughtful hosts. There was even a little gift basket filled with goodies for us and our children. The cabin was clean, cozy, and decorated with tasteful antiques throughout. The view from the front porch and yard is absolutely stunning. We loved every minute and can’t wait to return!

We absolutely loved our time at Tom and Susie’s property. The view from the front porch and main bedroom is crazy beautiful - we loved sitting out with coffee, wine, and watching the lobster boats go by. The house feels like a step back in the past in the best way - it’s rustic and cute and filled with vintage furniture. The amenities are even better than described in the listing - there was plenty of sunscreen, bug spray, beach towels, and grilling equipment stocked. We really enjoyed playing the different board games provided. As hosts, Tom and Susie were great. We felt like we had all the privacy we wanted and they were super respectful of our space. We enjoyed meeting and chatting with their family, too! We will come back to Islesboro and plan to stay at Tom and Susie’s again. Thank you so much!

Islesboro is where one goes to be away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Beautiful scenery, lovely old Maine cottages, rocky beaches, pine forests and conservation land to explore on; but no crowds or public establishments require your attendance. The Oats’ property is far off the main road and has a world of its own, with views to knock your socks off. Facing the Penobscot Bay it is quintessential Maine, and the cottage has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Nothing fancy here, yet perfect in every way.

We have stayed in many places on the Maine coast over the years, and this cottage was perfect. The location is just beautiful, with spectacular and ever-changing views and a wonderful beach, as well as multiple vantage points for enjoying the scenery and refreshing breezes even on hot days. The cottage is welcoming and comfortable, and very well-equipped. Plenty of space for our family of four to read, do puzzles, watch movies and play games. And the owners were incredibly welcoming, responsive and helpful. The island has everything you need, including an ice cream and sandwich shop and a great library, beautiful areas for walking and a variety of beaches. We can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was - we highly recommend this gem!

This is a lovely renovation in progress sited on a magical property. The views were spectacular, regardless of weather. We enjoyed watching fog roll in, sunbathed on the sun-drenched days, observed the starry night sky from the second floor porch, and celebrated the coming solstice watching the full moon rise above the water. We spent a quiet hour on the front porch enjoying three deer that wandered through the front yard, unfazed by us. The next day, watched a pair of bald eagles get chased around the property by a murder of crows. The rocky beach was beautiful. The entire property was quiet and private. The islanders we encountered at the Island Market were friendly and accommodating. This market provides quite an impressive stock of both practical and gourmet goods, and make the best pizza in New England (in our experience). A few safety issues that should make travelers aware of the surroundings, and maybe leave children at home until the renovation has progressed more: an alarming number of sharp nails poking through the down-to-studs walls in the master bedroom and some other areas, and a bit of a dicey and unstable cliff at the edge of the yard over the beach. The owners have provided ample warnings in the guest guide. Ground water (as we observed during heavy rain) is eroding the land, and some areas of the dirt cliff under the edge of the yard are concave. Some sort of safety fence is needed. It is important to note, though, that work is clearly in progress to shore up the cliff face, so maybe by the time you visit this won’t be an issue. This property has a well-appointed, fully renovated bathroom on the first floor. It is the only bathroom in the house, so if you need to use it during the night, you will be making a trip downstairs. The kitchen has good appliances and ample seating. Be aware that the cottage is well over a hundred years old, and inside it shows in a lovely, but rustic, way. In stating the rustic nature of the interior, I do not mean rustic decor. This property is in renovation. No construction materials present or anything half finished, but again, the interior walls are down to studs. It is pretty, though. Well-loved antiques are throughout, as well as heavy original windows with antique glass. The front room is dominated by a beautiful, probably original, fireplace. The exterior, including porches, are fully renovated. The owners left many thoughtful amenities, and were easy and pleasant in communication.

The cottage was clean upon arrival and we were welcomed with a very thoughtful gift basket from the owners, Tom and Suzie Oates. Very peaceful, comfortable, and quiet accommodations with everything you need for your visit to the island. The outside shower was an added bonus! We would return and not hesitate to recommend this wonderful spot to anyone considering vacationing on Isleboro.

Tom & Suzie were amazing hosts and their home was just perfect! We visited with two children (4 & 6) and had a relaxing time enjoying the beach, berries, wildlife and quiet. Islesboro is extremely quiet but it’s nice to slow down and appreciate the surroundings. Some hikes, kayaking, lobster & ice cream helped round out our stay. Make sure you check out the farmers market and the Bluewater Bakery when you are on the island.
