About this house rental

Situated on a beautiful hillside spot in Sausalito's best region, the banana belt, our 3 bedroom, 3 bath Eichler period home is perfect for families or friends planning an extended stay to see the sights of the SF Bay Area, Wine Country and the coastline and communities both north and south of here. Sausalito is the perfect location to launch day trips to all the wonderful sights Northern California has to offer. Our home has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, living area and kitchen on the main floor, 1 bedroom and bath on the ground level. There is a semi spiral staircase from entry to the main floor as well as direct access to main living area floor from the deck and kitchen. It comfortably sleeps 6 people. We have wonderful close up views of the bay and harbor for almost every room in the house and from the deck and gardens. We are located in a quiet residential neighborhood just 2 blocks up from the center of town - with access to all the restaurants, shops and ferry by foot. We are situated on a cul-de sac of sorts so there is no through traffic to disturb the serenity.

I stayed at the Butterfly house for 6 weeks. When I saw all the pictures of the house there was no indication that there was a steep flight of stairs from the ground level to the living quarters. I am convinced that the owners deliberately left out a picture of the stairs. Normally it would just be an inconvenience but I have serious spinal issues and for me it was a major problem. Also, there were no cleaning services during the six week period.. Also, entrance to the property was via a lock box. I never met the owners.

We had a wonderful stay at the Butterfly House. This is a lovely, quirky house, with lots of cool nooks and crannies that make it a really charming place to stay. Plenty of room, serviceable kitchen, very clean and well-maintained. What makes this house an experience is the view. The living room and all three bedrooms overlook the bay. Even more special is the terrace. There's a lovely little tile table for two outside where we would have breakfast in the morning. Irene was very responsive and always answered our questions very quickly. She gave us perfect directions through the very steep hills and sharp turns. I will say that backing into the parking spot off a steep hill was a challenge, but I got fairly good at it after the first couple of times. The setting is definitely worth the drive!

We are frequent visitors to the Bay Area, but this was the first time staying in Sausalito. My wife and I, plus our 3 children stayed for 1 week, and the house was perfect for our stay. Beautiful view, easy walk to town and ferry, and quick drive into SF. Irene was great and provided very detailed instructions about the house and neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again.

We were here for a month in this perfect location for visiting many things near SF. The house has an incredible view but be prepared to walk up steep hills! Three bathrooms made this house perfect for us. It is very charming, but a little dated. Irene and Greg were very helpful with suggestions and answered all our questions promptly. We'd recommend the Ferry, Lands End and the Point Bonita lighthouse. Also a short trip down to Monterey was a highlight!

We spent a glorious week here. Ideal location for visiting San Francisco but staying somewhere out of the city. House very comfortable with superb views and nice top garden for breakfast in the sun. Very well equipped and Irene and Greg were v helpful with hints and tips about travel, eating out etc. Sausalito has a lovely marina (seals, pelicans and other seabirds) with places to eat. Ferry journey to and from SF very relaxing (but easy by car too). Lots of things to do from the house with a car including wine and cheese country tours, coastline walks, Silicon Valley, Berkeley...House would suit all ages but it is located on quite a steep hill (hence the views!).

We stayed in this home for 8 nights beginning 8/21, me & spouse, 20 year old daughter & my dad. We loved the home, the view, the patio and the location! It was a 20 minute walk to the ferry (30 for my dad who is 76). Irene was fabulous in assisting us with tips including where to get groceries & to get a Clipper card if going to SF more than a day, very helpful. The kitchen is very well equipped & beds comfortable. I love their décor. We only had 1 vehicle & a visitor briefly one evening had no issue parking behind us. My husband didn't have trouble with the driveway parking. We would definitely stay here again. My only suggestion for Greg & Irene would be to update the blankets, bed & pillow covers in the smallest of the 3 bedrooms. We spent a day in Russian River wine country, visited Bonita Pt. Lighthouse, Muir Woods, 3 days in SF included cable car & cc museum, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, Coit Tower, lunch in North Beach, Alcatraz & Angel Island, a Giants game, biking in Golden Gate Park, kayaking at Sea Trek in Richardson's Bay & walking some of the GG bridge. It was a lovely trip.

We recently returned from a trip to the Bay area and the house was a great location! It was perfect for our family of 4 (including 2 adult children). The kitchen is very well equipped although we only cooked one meal in. Greg and Irene provided extensive information and checked in on us throughout our stay (by email, not dropping by!) which was great as there was some road construction while we were there. The patio is amazing and extremely warm (no fog in Sausalito most days). Each bedroom has it's own bathroom either en suite or close by so there's great privacy too. The area, of course, is amazing and the house is well situated to get anywhere. We hiked on Mt. Tam, traveled into the city a few times (Go Giants!) and visited surrounding areas (Napa, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Tiberon and Berkeley). Was a great trip!
