About this house rental
The house for rent is 400 years old (completely and comfortably renovated in 2002, roof-top terrace built in 2023) and is situated in the historic Castello above Menaggio, on Lake Como just across Bellagio and Varenna. It is a bridge over a pebble stone road, a short five minute walk down to the center of Menaggio. The house has two floors and a private parking below. On the first floor is the kitchen, dining area and the living room (with an additional sofa bed for 2) with a walkout balcony with lake view and fireplace. The second floor has a large roof-top terrace with view on the mountains, a master bedroom, a second bedroom (with a single bed that turns into a double) and a bathroom with bath/shower, wc and bidet. Traffic is restricted so the house is very quiet with a great Lake View. It is "suspended" above the road, and it has a balcony and a large terrace. Under the bridge you can access the terraced garden, where an area is reserved to guests as a sundeck or to work or read, or where you can cook, BBQ and dine. The garden is occasionally shared wth other guests, but the roof top terrace and balcony are in exclusive use. House is ideal for who travels by public transportation. Menaggio is very well served by buses and boats and a main train line is just across the Lake, in Varenna, 15 minutes away by ferry.
The house for rent is located in Menaggio, on the western shore of Lake Como about mid lake, just 15 min. by ferry from Bellagio and Varenna. Menaggio is one of the most important towns on Lake Como and has been a tourist attraction for hundreds of years. From Menaggio central location, one can easily navigate the whole lake by public boats. Bellagio and Varenna are only a short boat ride away. Lugano, in Switzerland is only 15 miles away, well served by public transportation.
The owner is a US born of Italian Origin resident, with a thorough knowledge of the Lake and its surroundings. He is glad to spend all the time needed with guests to help them planning their hikes, boat trips, shopping trips or simple sightseeing. He also assists with full info on travel to reach Menaggio and picks up guests with no car at the bus or the ferry.
Only one dog of small size is allowed, no cats or other kind of pets. The dog, however, can only stay in the house or use the balcony and the large terrace, not the garden.

The Little House on the Bridge was ideally placed for getting about Menaggio - close to the lake side, beach, shops restaurants and ferry.
The house is quirky with everything we needed. We didn’t do any cooking as we ate out , just breakfasts and light lunches. Bed was comfortable and air con very welcome.
Menaggio is well placed for taking the ferry to Varenne and Bellagio or the bus along the west coast to Como. We didn’t use the car at all once we arrived as there was no need.

Everything about this condo exceeded my expectations. Very charming and inviting. The host and hostess are fabulous. Wish I could have seen their outdoor cats. Maybe next time.,,

The apartment is very nice and cozy and we felt very comfortable. Fabio, the landlord, was extraordinarily helpful and very nice and was able to give lots of good tips on various activities in the region. His support was flawless and the communication was extremely clear and most uncomplicated, which we really appreciated. Furnishings and equipment were not exactly luxurious, but we had everything we needed. The small balcony with a view on the lake and the village (classic, tiny balcony for a maximum of two slim people ;), but perfect for breakfast coffee) and the larger terrace are a real asset. Next time we're at Lago di Como, we'll definitely try to rent this cosy, beautifully situated cottage again.
Again so many thanks to Fabio!!!

We loved our stay in menaggio. Our only problem was that our stay was too short. Fabio is a wonderful host. We want to come again someday for a longer stay.

Nice authentic house with a view over the lake. The lake, the beach, shops and the boats to other villages are at walking distance. The host Fabio gives a lot of information and ideas about trips in the region.

Beautiful situation, friendly welcome
We had a fantastic time. It's a lovely little house, well equipped and clean, in a stunning location with beautiful views. The owner, Fabio, was wonderfully welcoming and informative, in a slightly chaotic but extremely helpful way. It was, by our standards, very hot (high 30s when we arrived) but there are fans, thick walls, and a good through breeze, so we coped well. We hired a car, but we wouldn't bother again: there are good public transport links, and a great deal is accessible by foot.

Beautiful location, caution: steep walk
Apartment has great charm. Linens need to be better quality. Kitchen well stocked. Shower curtain mildewed. Dishwasher, convection oven and washing machine much appreciated.

The Little Bridge House apartment is in a fantastic location in the beautiful and historic cobble-stoned neighborhood called The Costello which is perched up on a hill overlooking the town but just a few minutes walk from the main town center. Here you are in a quiet neighborhood with a nice view of the lake. I had a very pleasant one month stay at the apartment which is in a fully renovated 16th century building which means it has the comforts of modern living with a lot of character. The photos are all very accurate and give a good overview of the apartment. Almost all the tourists passing by always take pictures of the apartment in order to capture the medieval charm of the area. Fabio, the owner is a great host and was always available for all my needs. Menaggio is my favorite small town on the lake with a great collection of stores and restaurants and two supermarkets. There is easy access to Varenna and Bellagio by ferry boat. It is just as easy to get around to other areas of the lake by the numerous ferry boat or buses (if you prefer not to have a car). And there is easy access to trains in Varenna. Many hiking trails either begin in Menaggio or are easily accessible from the town---the friendly Tourist Info office in the main square has lots of information for hiking and water sports in the area. And, Lugano Switzerland and Lake Lugano are a 30 minute drive or bus ride away.

Lovely house in a great location
We loved our stay in the little bridge house. It's in a quiet historic part of Menaggio and is very comfortable. Fabio was very kind and helpful, with suggestions of local day trips and helping us solve a small problem in the house. Menaggio is a great base and well connected with boats and buses.

Super Cute Apartment With Lake View
We stayed here as a family of five and fit very well - the one bedroom has two single beds and a loft bed and the second has a queen. The ceilings are low (we're very tall), but there are lovely sky lights letting in the sun. The bathroom has a tub, which was nice. The kitchen was well-equipped and the living area had a lot of good information on the area, including English guide books.
The location is very nice - a walk up the steep streets from the center of town takes only 5 minutes. My mother (age 70) took a while to get up there, but the rest of us (including little kids) were fine. It's good to walk off all the wine and pasta anyway! I loved the little balcony as well.
The only thing I missed was a drying line outside - the one in the bathroom takes a while to dry the clothes. Our host was absolutely lovely about everything and promptly responded to all questions. Menaggio is a good place to start from if you are exploring this area.

Lovely town and a grelt wiew
We very a cuble with two grown-up kids. We had the most wonderful vacation. Fabio was very helpful with information about the hikes and sights. We had two dinners at the hostel, which was very nice. Good simple food at a good price and nice mostly young people from different countries.
We had the most wonderful weather and the view from the house was stunning. The house was cosy and well equipped with furniture and kitchen utilities. We would not recommend 7 people to stay there.
We used the heating because it was rather cold inside the house. It worked very well and was not expensive.
We loved the town, the lake, the view, the steep streets, the hikes, the restaurants (Magnolia was good), the boat-trip and anything else about Menaggio. :0)
We would recommend the little house on the bridge to friends and family.

Home away from home
I don't want to write a review. I don't want anyone else to rent this place...yes, I'm selfish. First off Fabio could not be more wonderful. He helped with so many things and was so easy to get in touch with when we needed him. And, I was there for 5 weeks...so, yeah, I called him often for help with travel or places to go and see.
The house itself is lovely. The lack of AC was a bit tough a few days when the temps went up, but with the windows open there was usually a nice breeze. The neighborhood is beautiful and we enjoyed talking with the neighbors each day. Keep in mind that it is a hike up the hill back to the house, but well...we just called it our daily exercise.
Menaggio is a wonderful town, the people are friendly, the stores are easy to shop, and the restaurants are really good. We got around by walking, taking the bus and using the ferries. Never a problem. A day trip to Lugano, Switzerland was fun as well.
For the price, you can't beat this rental. And that's exactly why I'm going back next summer for 5 more weeks. :D

Delightful property in a great location
The Little House on the Bridge was the perfect accommodation for our family of 4, 2 adults and 2 grown sons 19 and 21, for 4 days/nights in September. It's an older place, so a little quirky, but very peaceful and comfortable, and plenty of room. A few cars pass under the house each day, but it's a wonderfully quiet location in an otherwise busy town. It's a few minutes walk down a steep but charming narrow street into Menaggio -- coming back up is good exercise, but not difficult if you are reasonably fit and active. Great for walking off the pizza and gelato. Menaggio was great and I was glad we stayed there -- plenty of shops, restaurants, and the ferry port for exploring the lake. Enjoyed our visits to Varenna, Bellagio and Como. Fabio was extremely helpful in all areas of our stay, including inviting us to the Youth Hostel for good food, cheap wine, and entertainment, and helping us figure out the best way to get to Zurich by public transport. If you enjoy hiking, catch the bus for the hike to Rifugio Menaggio and Mt Grona -- awesome views in all directions.

You must go to Little House on the Bridge, Menaggio
I've just returned from two weeks staying at Little House on the Bridge with my partner, and can recommend it highly. If you want a charming, comfortable, spacious house, with everything you need to make your stay in Menaggio individual, then this is the place to go. The owner Fabio, was very helpful indeed, without intruding on our privacy. We found it well equipped, with good kitchen and bathroom, comfortable bedrooms (watch your head on the roof of the main bedroom, ouch!), and a pleasant lounge/dining area. There is excellent, high speed, internet access.
Sitting on the little balcony at night was very pleasant, specially because of the friendly neighbour next door wishing us "Buonanotte". It was great being able to prepare our own breakfasts and the occasional dinner at night as a change from the excellent restaurants in the village. We found the walk back to the house quite easy (specially compared with the walking tracks which were very steep and challenging indeed!), though we quickly learnt to organise our days so we didn't go down and up too many times in the one day! If you're wondering about the road underneath the house and whether cars might be noisy, it's a private road, and there is only about one car an hour, so no problem.
I'd certainly go to Little House on the Bridge again.

Great little house at Menaggio
My husband and I stayed for five weeks at Little House on the Bridge. We were there during October when it wasn't too cold and left at the end of November when it was very cold. We usually felt quite warm inside the house.
The house was very comfortable with everything we needed. It was very clean and has been well looked after, so it was an easy house to look after whilst on holidays. The kitchen had everything, even an electric kettle which is very unusual to find in Italy and the bathroom was clean and well equipped. There was plenty of clean, warm bedding for the cold nights, but the house is well heated by gas and the open log fire.
It was about a five minute walk down to the centre of town, where there were lots of nice shops, bars, places to eat and two good supermarkets. It was easy to walk to everything, including the ferry for trips to other local towns, so a car is not necessary. The walk back up the long, steep, cobblestoned road, especially when carrying the shopping, remained a challenge, even though we're quite fit and walked it several times a day on most days.
From Menaggio, we did several mountain walks/climbs and visted many of the local towns, including some at the northern end of Lake Como. We also went by bus into Switzerland on two occasions, so we found it to be a very centrally located place to stay. Menaggio is a lovely town and the people are friendly. There are many good bars and we had lots of good cappuccini.
Fabio, the owner, was most helpful, offering advice and suggestions of things to do and places to go while we were there. We would recommend Little House on the Bridge most highly.

What a great place to stay!
My wife and I relaxed at The Little House on the Bridge following an eight day bicycle tour from Prague to Vienna. We thought it was a great place! The apartment is located in the beautiful lakeside town of Menaggio, which we really feel it is the best place to stay while visiting Lake Como. The Little House on the Bridge is spacious, and well appointed. Perfect for a couple and two (or three) children. The walk to the town center is fantastic (all downhill!) and gives you a good bit of exercise after a big meal in one of the numerous restaurants in town. Fabio (the owner) was very helpful and seemed to be very anxious for us to enjoy our visit, he couldn't have been more helpful!

A great location with tons of character
My wife and I spent a week in the "Little House on the Bridge" in Menaggio. We found the property to be first rate, with all of the amenities we could want. It is located in a wonderful, historical part of Menaggio. Menaggio itself is a charming little town on the beautiful and highly touristed Lake Como, but is removed from the extreme crowding that plagues areas such as Como, Lecco and Belaggio while still allowing you to visit those areas easily. The owner was very helpful when we arrived in providing information on cycling in the area as this was of high interest to my wife and I. Be advised that the property is a bit of a climb up from the lake, so when walking, you will always be walking uphill to return home. The parking space is also a short walk from the house, but we never had any concerns finding parking, or concerns for the safety of our vehicle.

Little House with lots of charm!
We stayed in the Little House on the Bridge for one week in July. It was very comfortable for the 4 of us- two couples. It was very clean and had a well equipped kitchen. The house is close to town (5 minutes down to town, but a steep hill coming back) and was a good base from which to explore the Lake Como area. Fabio was very helpful. He picked us up at the ferry and drove us to the house, spent lots of time showing us around the house, and gave us information that we requested regarding fishing and hiking in the area. We would stay here again and think that you would be very happy to stay there.

Old World Charm!
The Little House on the Bridge was a perfect base for exploring the Lake Como region of Italy. The house was perfect for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. The internet access allowed for them to stay connected and for us to plan the next leg of our journey. Fabio was the perfect host, insuring that all of our needs were met and suggesting itineraries and travel arrangements.

A Wonderful Summer!
My family and I (three children, two adults) stayed for a month last summer in the beautiful town of Menaggio. The Little House on the Bridge was just perfect! Not only was it clean, modern, and in a great location, it had all of the amentities that you need as a family to live very comfortably. It is also was priced very reasonably. The bathroom was remodeled and the shower, etc. all worked very well. The beds were clean and comfortable and the kitchen (incl. dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave), had all of the items you needed to cook your meals. One of the true highlights, however, was Fabio (the owner) and his family. He was so helpful in setting us up in the apartment, ensuring that all of our needs were met, and giving us tips and directions to all of the sites to do and see around Menaggio. We certainly felt like we had a friend watching over us! I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this property to our friends and family. We look forward to coming back in the not too distant future - and would love to stay in this property again.

Wonderful Vacation
Thank you Fabio for renting us the delightful 400 year old Little House on the Bridge. I stayed there with my children and mother. The air was fresh in the mountains; the sunrise which can be viewed from the apartment was spectacular. The lake was clean and provided a refreshing swim. The walks, ferry ride and speed boat on the river were memorable. The Town was a short walk away and provided all the amenities needed ( a meat, fresh fruit and supermarket) and the restaurants by the lakeside were wonderful. My wife and I were wondering if we should return without the kids and stay longer! I am already recommending this to my friends and family! Thank you Fabio.

Perfecto, perfecto, perfe...
Perfecto, perfecto, perfecto !! :-) We loved our stay
in Fabio's Little House over the bridge. It could not
have been any better. The apartment is perfectly
situated, near enough to the buses and ferries but
far enough from the crowds to be extremely
peaceful and give you the feeling that you are living
the Italian life. Do not hesitate to take any of Fabio's
recommendations. We did the fabulous Rifugio
Menaggio walk and the spectacular Val Codera walk
up to the Rifugio Brascia. Both great days out, with
amazing views and well earned rustic hearty food at
the Rifugio's.
We stayed 6 nights and didn't want to leave. It feels
like a real home from home, and we hope to be
back.
