About this house rental
My home is cleaned and disinfected before each renter arrives. Bright and airy, 2nd & 3rd floor living right 'In The Village' (see book by Anthony Bailey, 1971), with a great view of activities on Water Street, yet still very private. Historic 19th century building with modern loft living ... vaulted ceiling, sky-lights, spiral staircase, roof-top deck. Large open-space living, dining, and kitchen space with two bedrooms, a full bath, and a 1/2 bath on the second floor, and one loft bedroom on the 3rd floor. Views of Stonington Harbor and Fishers Island, NY from 2 of the bedrooms. 3 short block walk to the Harbor, Small Boat Ass'n launch area (launch your kayaks at this free public launch space), children's playground, & Fishing Docks. Shopping and restaurants on Water Street, Public Library (1 block), Old Lighthouse Museum & DuBois Beach at the end of the Point (approx. 12 blocks - 'The Borough' is a peninsula).
Just ten minutes from the Mystic drawbridge lies Stonington Borough, called “the most beautiful seaside village in New England.” Because the Borough is a narrow, mile-long peninsula pointing into Fisher’s Island Sound and Little Narragansett Bay, nothing is more than a short walk from your car or boat. From “The Point” you can view three states--CT, RI, & NY-- or see the last remaining commercial fleet in the state bring lobster and famous scallops and flounder to the Town Dock. The Borough is a major yachting center with all the amenities and our beautiful harbor boasts boats of all types and sizes. From The Borough, you can visit Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Watch Hill RI, the RI beaches, and either Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun Casinos .... all with only a 10 to 30 minute drive.

My stay was everything I hoped. I had my 2 dogs with me but there was a dog park and walking through the village is beautiful. The house is older but there is not an item you could think of that was not available. Carolyn, the host, also owns the antique store below the apartment so was available if needed.

Only because I was asked to by the host I’m writing this review. In summary you pay for the location but not for the apartment.
The apartment is gloomy, dark and smelly, filled up with a random collection of furniture which could easily fill 3 apartments of this size. While the apartment was cleaned before our arrival it smelled like over-disinfected. Still the rugs, towels, etc. had clearly seen a few years. It’s too expensive for what it is if you don’t want to pay for the location only. It is obvious that no renovations have been made since the landlady moved out.
We’ve rented various summer vacation places in the past but this one definitely stands out in terms of neglect.
I’ve never written such a review before.

Open floor plan. Lots of furniture still, not enough comfortable chairs for a rainy day. Need of updated lighting, etc. Nice deck. Property owner is very attentive. Easy walk to swimming, boating and very good food. We love the boro

The unit is located in heart of borough. Parking was easily available on the street so we could park and walk. Host was very accommodating and accessible. This quirky unit had a fully equipped kitchen. The very narrow, spiral steps led to the loft bedroom with the two queens. Both bathrooms were on the main floor.

We had a great stay- The owner was very friendly, responsive and extremely helpful- The apt. had a very homelike feeling and has everything you'd need. It's very light and open --and provided a wonderful stay in ever-lovely Stonington!

Nice and spacious and well lit. The rooms were ample and the deck was just right. The location in town allowed for access to everything we wanted. Beach, docks, Restaurants, gallery’s and walks. It needs some updating. Privacy isnt the best. We enjoyed.

Location is perfect in the heart of beautiful Stonington Borough. You can walk to several great restaurants like Noah’s and the Water Street Cafe. Dubois Beach is worth seeing.

Location wise, it's in the heart of the boro and the kitchen was well stocked. Beyond that, "quirky" translates to deferred maintenance.
--The windows overlooking Water St. are hopelessly filthy and need to be replaced. (Owner admitted they "have to be cleaned".)
--All major appliances are used and abused. Printed instructions would have been helpful. (Even the TV was tricky.)
--Window blinds in the MB are inoperable. They can't be lowered or adjusted so the room is continually hot, bright and without privacy. The cords are badly frayed. Recommendation? Replace ASAP.
--Some teflon cookware is so scratched, it's unhealthy to use.
--The multiple (15-20) throw rugs throughout the unit are trip/ fall hazards and had to be taken up for our own safety.
--The dated floral (coordinated with decor) bedspread in the downstairs BR smelt of BO. When was it last laundered?
--The overgrown array of plants in the entry stairway suffer from longterm neglect. It's an accumulation of dead leaves, struggling foliage and discarded trash guests have randomly tossed in.
--Many of the owner's personal belongings are stuffed into drawers and shelves making the space feel crowded and cluttered.

Beautiful New England seaport town, comfortable property with all the amenities we needed, felt like we were home, and that we knew the homeowner all our lives. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Comfortable and Convenient!
We really enjoyed our stay at Carolyn's quirky, eclectic apartment over the very rainy July 4th weekend. Carolyn is the owner of the antique store below the apartment, and she fills her home with interesting objects that are fun to look at! The apartment has a unique and interesting layout, that invites gathering and entertaining, but still has ample space for privacy. The deck off of the main bedroom is delightful-though it was a bit soggy while we were there! Though there were some condition issues (a pulled out screen on the door to the deck for instance), the apartment was clean and welcoming; everything you needed for a comfortable stay was provided, and more! The location is ideal, with an easy walk to all Stonington Borough has to offer, and a quick ride to neighboring villages, like Mystic and Watch Hill. All in all we were grateful to Carolyn for sharing her place with us and we had a lovely time.

Will stay here again!
Had a lovely time here, amazing spot close to all of the action and a quick Uber away from some fun places as well… Carolyn was incredibly accommodating and helpful, you can’t go wrong staying here!

Good location in Stonington Borough
We had a good time and the setup worked great for our family of five. The kids loved the spiral staircase to their room. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need.

Home away from Home
This home was the perfect fit for our large family gathering. The house was stocked with everything we needed for cooking and entertainment. The floor plan was open and bright! Carolyn was the perfect host... available and helpful but never intrusive... we loved the place and the town. We went the perfect (hot) weather week and the A/C never failed us. We were able to partake in the firehouse’s Lobster dinner fundraiser ...which was AMAZING) We could walk to beach, farmer markets, the shops, and restaurants, which were plentiful (we recommend the “Social” coffee shop) Grocery store was about 8 mins away for all our needs. Stonington was beautiful with quite an array of massive historical homes to admire. Mystic and Groton also very close. Rhode Island beaches were super close too! Was a great experience and we’d do it again!!! I could go on and on... you will love this place!

I fell in love with the (huge) apartment, the landlady, and the town, right outside my door. Sat on the deck and used my binoculars when the skies were deep, deep blue. Mournful foghorn/lighthouse horn, the smell of the sea, amazing light inside due to many windows and skylights. Charming, it feels like home. I am thinking of having my family of 10 meet here for a holiday, as Carolyn has supplied everything you could imagine, for cooking, and enough for at least 12 people. Plus a washer and dryer! Beach towels, blankets, wine glasses, detergent, everything. Carolyn has a wonderful antique store downstairs, make sure to check it out. And she loves animals! The hottest weather in recent history was no match for the heavy-duty a/c units, plus fans. And wonderful dog-walking right outside the door! A park a short block away. She even has dog gates. I could easily move right in! I parked right on the street outside my door. As a library employee, I love that it is 2 blocks away. A friendly, beautiful town that is much easier to get to than the Cape, that rivals Salem, Cornwall, etc. I’ll be back for sure! (Hope to retire near here.)Tip - sign the guest book at the little free library by the swings in the park. Mystic is just down the road, but Westerly, across the river, is just as nice. Stores here are wonderful; usually open 10-5 or 10-6. Cash only at the convenience store - 1 short block walk, but they have an atm. They open at 5 am for your newspapers, etc. close at 5.Linda LRochester, N.Y.

Location, Location, Location
Carolyn was a very attentive and gracious host who answered emails and texts promptly. She gave us privacy but made sure we knew she was available if we needed anything. Her Town house was warm and inviting. You felt at home instantly. The location was the icing on the cake. Stonington Borough itself is a gem. Given that it was midway between Mystic, CT and Westerly, RI provided so many options for a relaxing and fun family vacation. We enjoyed the beaches in Westerly and Mystic, spent a day at the Mystic Aquarium and took the ferry out of Narragansett to spend the day biking and exploring Block Island. We packed a lot into 1 week.

Great place to relax
My husband, our two young adult sons, and I met two family members here for a long weekend and had a blast. The huge dining room table provided plenty of space for family dinners and evening games. The tables next to the front windows were great spots to sit and read or people watch. We loved the layout of the apartment and never felt like we were on top of each other. The open plan combined with the smaller spaces, like the back deck, allowed us plenty of opportunities to come together or recharge alone if we needed it. The location is amazing, right in downtown. The weekend we were there we were able to get some amazing veggies and fresh fish from the farmer's market a block away. And Carolyn was a great host!

Charming and spacious apartment in a perfect location!!
My husband and I and three friends and our golden retriever spent a long weekend at this fun property! The living-kitchen-dining area is spacious and welcoming and is a wonderful place to just hang out along with the roof deck. The location in the heart of Stonington Borough could not have been more perfect. You can walk everywhere— great food and shopping just steps away! Awesome farmers market on Saturday and we bicycled up to Westerly Rhode Island and Watchhill one day and bicycled to a gorgeous winery another day. Mystic is also an easy bike ride or short drive away. Another day we went kayaking which is also close by. The owner, Carolyn, is super accommodating and helpful with lots of good info and suggestions— she even kept our golden retriever when we were out and about! Will definitely plan on staying here again 🌞

Wonderful Vacation Rental!!!!
I spent a week in Carolyn's apartment with my 10 lb dog and had visits from various friends and family throughout the week. The apartment was charming and clean. Carolyn was very pleasant and helpful. I really can't say enough about this wonderful experience. The location was perfect: close to restaurants, shops, beaches and museums. I completely fell in love with the Boro and did not want to leave. I will definitely be back!

The Perfect Spot to Connect with Family
My two adult children (+ one fiance) and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend. Our host greeted us warmly and was very helpful with directions, too! It was the perfect spot to re-connect with my adult children who live on the East Coast. The apartment is clean, spacious and well located. Plenty of seating to watch TV and the kitchen was well stocked for when we wanted to cook (note the coffee shop is across the street!). We just loved the town--cute restaurants within walking distance, farmer's market on the weekends and just very picturesque. This was my first experience with VRBO. After such a positive experience, I look forward to more vacation rentals by owner!

Great place in a great location
My family of four, plus our dog, had a great week in the Borough. The apartment is incredibly convenient to many activities, including walking distance to the beach, restaurants, a local brewery, and even lobster fresh off the boat. Heck, I literally could have crawled to a coffee shop. Hop in the car, and it's a short drive to everything in Mystic.
The apartment is very comfortable. It's not a rundown beach house. Although it's on the main street in the borough, we never heard a peep through any of the walls and the street quieted down easily at night. While doable for a family with small children, it was great with our tweens, who were thrilled to walk to the nearby general store and get candy on their own. I think we still have jolly ranchers left over. The owner was available (but not intrusive) and reasonably accommodating.

We're back!
This is our second stay here. Since our goal is to retire to the Boro we couldn't ask for more. Carolyn';s apartment is why you come to the Boro. While it is usually just my husband and myself here we have accomodated any and all of our 5 children and eight grandchildren for visits. We love it. Just walk out your door and wander the Boro, eat lunch or dinner, sightsee, shop, go to the library, go to the beach. You can take a walk 24 hours a day if you choose. It is safe, affordable, fun and our home away from home. We are thinking of trying a winter stay this year! Paula and Hal Oberg

Look before you leap!
This apartment was in need of an inside & outside paint job.
The floors also needed refinishing.
A professional interior designer is needed to redo/update this apartment.
The future professional designer will need to edit the contents of the apartment.
Manager of the "Heart of the Boro" rental was not helpful.
Staying at the apartment was not a positive experience.
It was a disappointment.

Fantastic Place
I came in from Ireland to visit CT and stayed in the apartment with 4 other members of my family. We were thrilled with the place. It is right in the heart of the town with loads of amenities there. It was great because we did not all have to go out in the car together. If some wanted to stay behind there was plenty to do in the town. Carolyn is a great host and is always nearby if needed. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to stay on the coast. Skippers dock restaurant in the town is great if anyone is looking to eat out. Casino's are a close drive and also the Rhode Island beaches.

Home away from Home
My family of five stayed in this historic charmer for Reporting-In Day at the Coast Guard Academy. This would be the last time we could be together as a family for a very long time. So, I searched the internet for days and days trying to find the perfect place for us to stay for this momentous, but stressful occasion. After tedious scrutiny I decided on Carolyn's home in Stonington. I had very high expectations for our "home away from home" and this house met them all, and exceeded! From the charming bay window overlooking the quaint historic shops and tea room, to the beautiful wood floors throughout, to the calming sea breezes, to the SPACIOUS living areas, and the water views, we had to force ourselves to leave the house each day and explore our son's new stomping grounds. And, after meeting Carolyn, who is always just downstairs in her fabulous shop if you need restaurant suggestions or directions, or anything at all, I felt like we'd been friends for years! Clean, comfy, well appointed (that kitchen has EVERYTHING!) and wi-fi to boot! I recommend this home with earnest, and to quote my youngest (15-year-old son) upon packing up to leave, “I hate to leave this house; it feels like home.” Thank you, Carolyn, for providing a place where my family could share this very special time together.

Very lovely apartment
This is more than an apartment, from the spacious rooms to the high ceilings. The master bedroom has a roof top deck that gets just enough sun in the morning and early afternoon. Three couples stayed very comfortably in the apartment. The upstairs loft has plenty of room and the downstairs two bedrooms are nicely decorated and very comfortable. The apartment overlooks Water Street (the main street in the village). You are within walking distance to everything in Stonington. Across the street are two excellent restaurants Water Street Café and Noah’s. The farmers Market (on Saturday) a short block away as well as the best dog park ever!
Carolyn (your host) was wonderful. She owns the shop downstairs. She was always available if we had a question or needed something but otherwise she left you alone to enjoy her place.
We cannot wait to visit again!

perfect location and very spacious
6 adults and 2 children stayed in this apartment for three nights. We were in town for several wedding events. The location could not have been better! And the apartment was very spacious. We had plenty of room! The apartment was very clean and ready for us. The deck was a very nice spot. The owner made our stay very easy and enjoyable. She was very helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better stay!

Awesome experience!
Here are the things the listing doesn't tell you:
It's in a beautifully charming village that acts like your typical Cape Cod village. You're surrounded by little shops, restuarants, attractions, and the water. The "master bedroom" opens on to the roof where my now-fiance proposed to me. It's a beautiful, romantic apartment located in the equally charming 'borough' of Stonington. If you're planning to stay over a holiday week/weekend, Stonington is THE place to be. The locals in this town are steeped in tradition and seem to live by the credo "Go big or go home." We enjoyed a parade right on the street in front of the apartment celebrating the Fourth of July. Carolyn, the "Boss", is very kind; she went out of her way to see to our comfort and enjoyment.
We live in "small town" Texas where the neighbors sit on the porch and ask about the weather when you walk by. You receive much the same experience in Stonington. The people are friendly, the shops open and welcome.
I have hopes to return to this adorable Stonington apartment every year and implore you to do the same... Just not over Fourth of July :)
