About this house rental
This lovely house is in a fabulous spot in beautiful downtown Oaxaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/415). Casa Crespo is within walking distance (5-10 min.) of the best attractions Oaxaca has to offer, including the historic Zócalo (central plaza), the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the Santo Domingo Museum of Oaxacan Cultures, the Ethnobotanical Garden, the Carmen Bajo Church, the Carmen Alto Church and former Convent with its adjacent market, as well as many restaurants, cafes, museums, galleries, and shops.
Casa Crespo offers fast fiber internet (WiFi 6), perfect for those working remotely (strong mesh signal throughout the house, including the office, yard, balconies, and bedrooms). The beautiful private office downstairs shows the original green "Cantera Verde" quarry foundation, making it a perfect motif for your video conference background. Additionally, Casa Crespo has a local telephone number, and we provide unlimited long-distance calling to Canada and the US and an additional 50 other countries (please ask for a list)--share it with your family back home for extra peace of mind.
If you are planning to visit Oaxaca toward the end of July, Casa Crespo is the perfect spot for the Guelaguetza Festival, as it is just a few hundred feet from the stairway to the Cerro del Fortín, where the Lunes del Cerro celebration takes place (usually the last two Mondays of the month)!
You will be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful/functional kitchen in town. It can be an excellent complement for those attending one of the many Oaxacan cooking academies (it is well-stocked with everything you might need).
Regarding sleeping accommodations, the master bedroom has a king-size bed, a full bathroom, and a beautiful balcony; the second and third bedrooms each have a double and a single bed and private bathrooms.
The common areas are relaxing and well-kept. A laundry room is provided for your convenience. If you bring a car, you can rest easy knowing Casa Crespo has a secured garage with an automatic door.
Finally, Casa Crespo is in front of a bus route, which makes it convenient to get to from anywhere in the city.
In summary:
- Fast fiber, whole-house internet (WiFi 6) perfect for working remotely

Exactly as advertised and even better in person. Clean, comfortable, and modern. Within 10 minutes of walking distance to all the attractions and city center, and in a safe location. Loved sitting on back balcony watching the city lights and listening to the sounds of the city around us. We barely used the property except at night - and relished the great showers and cool a/c that we could turn on for a good nights sleep with lovely linens on each bed. Felt a little guilty having such modern amenities but it really helped us have a comfortable first-time international adventure with our teenagers! And Gene was such a helpful host! We will be back! Oaxaca is one-of-a-kind!

Everything was excellent. The Casa Crespo is a beautiful, comfortable, clean, functional house. It’s spacious.
I love the clean airy feeling, being able to open doors and windows, having so much space to sit outside, being able to ser the exconvento in the background. I also loved how everything works so well.
And the communication with owner was excellent, very responsive and helpful.
We had no issues, problems or any complaints.
I would come back here, no doubt.

This house was a great pick to stay at! Great location, easy check in with good communication with the host (Gene) making sure everything was going good. Super clean, contemporary and close to just about everything. Would definitely recommend and would stay at again.

We had the best stay at Casa Crespo! Everything was pristinely clean, centrally located for easy walking access, and Gene could not have been a more responsive and helpful host. I highly recommend staying at Casa Crespo when in Oaxaca! Thank you Gene!

The apartment is spacious with a newer, very nice build-out. Each of the 3 bedrooms were quite comfortable with a balcony off the master (and the living room). The location was ideal for exploring the area and for easy, walkable access to desired restaurants. Gene was very responsive and offered great suggestions. Street noise was a bit of an issue but a worthwhile trade off given the excellent, close-in city location.

Well located close to Santo Domingo and El Zócalo, but far enough away to be a little quieter. Very close to many great restaurants, craft and food markets, etc. Check in was super easy and the host provided great suggestions for guides and drivers. The apartment is very well equipped with a beautiful kitchen. It had a 6 burner stove with oven, though no instructions on how to work the oven that is a format I had never seen. Great open space. There are 2 en suite bedrooms and another bedroom and full bath in the hall upstairs. Very large, nice TV room. Down the exterior stairs (located within the enclosed private courtyard) are the 4th full bath which doubles as the laundry room and the very nice office. Didn't use parking but it would have been very convenient - there's a garage door opener and the car pulls straight into the front with big metal doors that close behind it. Only suggestions would be to give instructions for operating the oven and provide a larger dish drainer.

We had a great time staying at Jean’s property in Oaxaca! Location was great & we didn’t have to taxi once since it was close to town! House itself is clean and no issue! Highly recommend

Outside of finding the place which is difficult as on a busy road and no one could quite get us to the address which Google maps did not get exactly right it was great. Clean, modern, comfortable good location to get to the old city. Great host. I'd go back....Steven

My friends and I experienced the best rental ever (and we travel a lot). The house was spotless, roomy, quiet and furnished beautifully. We felt safe , close to central but some distance from the nightlife noise. Our Host was amazing, very detailed and very responsive when we asked questions. You will not find a better rental so we highly recommend this beautiful house. We definitely will be back!

The home is as nice as it looks in the pictures. Very cozy! It was well stocked with basic appliances and even had a few extras in the cupboards. The view of the cathedral each morning and night was great; each day presenting a new look!

The house is lovely. Great views. Lovely furnishings. Exactly as described. We loved being able to step out and in five minutes be in one of the main plazas. Carport for our rental car was key. Would return for sure! Thank you

Awesome place to stay at. The home was nice and very up to date. It has AC in the bedrooms. The house has great views of the cathedral from the balcony. A nice seating area in the back patio. The house has easy access to taxi cabs, metro buses, and within walking distance to the town square, market, and the Gueglaguetza auditorium. There is a coffee shop (Grillo Café) a couple minutes from the house with some great coffee. The house has wifi to keep you connected. A space for a car. The bathrooms are great and the showers have excellent water pressure. Check in and out is easy. Gene, the host is very accessible and very responsive. All in all, an excellent place to stay. Would definitely recommend it to anyone wishing to explore Oaxaca.

Two grandparents, two parents and two teenagers for a week in Oaxaca. Home is as advertised with three bedrooms and beds for eight people. Three bathrooms upstairs and one downstairs in laundry room. About 4 blocks to the centro area and a nice view of the cathedral from the balcony. There is an AC unit in each bedroom. It was usually hot when we were there and we did have some difficulty with the master bedroom AC unit. Gene, our host, was quick to respond and told us how to reset the circuit breaker. Very roomy home with great kitchen.
Also has private space for a car which we didn't use.
Next to a dance studio for little girls so there was some music playing from about 6pm to 9-10pm which we enjoyed while sitting on the balcony.
Would recommend if you need that much space

Casa Crespo is the place to stay when you’re in Oaxaca! Super convenient location (we walked everywhere we wanted to go) It was super, super clean, really comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed. The house is two levels which we didn’t realize when we booked. There’s a cool office space downstairs plus another full bath and laundry area. The backyard is beautiful and private. It was nice to be just a bit away from the very center of town because it was much less noisy and much more private. Gene was a fantastic host and responded almost immediately to any question we had. It also felt very very safe with security gates and an alarm system- although Oaxaca city in general felt safe! We will be coming back to stay again on our next trip to Oaxaca and we’ve already recommended the place to friends!

Set back behind a wall on a busy street, Gene's wonderful house was a very comfortable, very peaceful oasis in the middle of a lively city. Very tastefully furnished and well equipped, the house had everything we needed. We loved sitting on the balcony in the evening after a hot afternoon listening to the music wafting up from everywhere. Gene responded almost immediately to every question, whether about the house or where to find a market. We're so glad to have found this house, and we look forward to staying there on our next trip to Oaxaca.

The host, Gene, was one of the most attentive and communicative hosts we’ve ever dealt with. He was very helpful with any questions we had in planning our trip and while we were there. The location was perfect for walking everywhere, and a great view of Santa Domingo! Would definitely stay here again.

Casa Crespo was the perfect "home away from home" during the Christmas holiday. Extremely comfortable, well-equipped, spotless, and beautifully furnished. The location was exceptional...we could easily walk to all the sights, great restaurants and cafes, galleries, and shops. Our host was highly responsive and helfpful. We will be back!

We were a family of 5 traveling to Oaxaca for a four night stay. We wanted something big enough for us to spread out but also in the city center. Casa Crespo was just lovely. Perfect for our needs. Beautiful view of Santo Domingo from a hill. A short walk of about 5 to 10 minutes to the heart of the city. A wonderful street, a bakery and cafes close by. Casa Crespo is very clean and up to date with kitchen, fixtures, laundry, comfortable bedrooms, privacy and a stunning view. Very smooth communication to check in and check out. Highly recommended!!

We had an amazing time in Oaxaca and Gene’s home was perfect for our visit.
The house is beautiful, better than described, and perfectly located just a few blocks from Santo Domingo and all the restaurants, galleries around the temple area. It is definitely the place to be in the city.
The view of Santo Domingo, right from the living, dining and kitchen area was wonderful to come home to every evening. The cafe Boca del Monte around the corner has the best Chilaquiles.
Communication and checkin were great. Our flights into Oaxaca were delayed and Gene stayed in touch to make sure all was good. He was very flexible that our check-in time had changed.
Check out was easy
All in all, one of the best Vrbo experiences we’ve had

Excellent location. Close to Zócalo, great restaurants, neighborhood market & “andador touristico”. Property was so nice & comfortable. Offers many extra amenities like a nice laundry room, private office, & outdoor area. Each of us had our own bathroom. Highly recommend for you stay in Oaxaca!

Great location for exploring Oaxaca City
Casa Crespo was the perfect place for exploring the city while giving us (two couples in their '60's) a great place to relax together at the end of the day. The balcony was lovely and we spent many evenings relaxing and enjoying the view of the city. An added bonus was a darling cafe less than a block away - Cafe Boca del monte that had wonderful food and service on their rooftop patio. We also loved walking down Hildago Street to Mercado Sanchez Pascuas for all the grocery basics we needed (plus more). The house is uphill from the Zocalo but we love walking and had no issues getting around. It is also on a busy street so finding a taxi would not be an issue. Overall a great stay!

Super place to enjoy Beautiful Oaxaca!
Casa Crespo exceeded all my expectations! We met some of our Mexican family members in Oaxaca so we needed a spacious rental where 7 adults could have plenty of togetherness, as well as private space. Casa Crespo definitely fit the bill~ The home is much larger than it appears in the photos. The young man who checked us in was thorough and extremely helpful, and the home was immaculately clean upon arrival. The kitchen was pleasant to cook in. The three bedrooms gave us plenty of space to spread out, and living/dining room space allowed us to reconnect and enjoy each other. The outdoor spaces were wonderful, and the a/c and washer/dryer were extremely useful (most homes do not have these luxuries). Communication was A+ and the owners seem to be really lovely people. We will definitely be back to rent this wonderful place! (One note that could be a negative for some people - Calle Crespo is a pretty busy road with lots of traffic - inside the house, we could hear the traffic but it wasn't a bother for us - the master bedroom was especially quiet.)

Nice house clóset to downtown
Owner and the person who receive us were very friendly. You can walk to Santo Domingo church from there.
There is a beautiful stair almost in front of the house that takes you to The Guelaguetza theater. Very good exercise.

Spacious and convenient
First the owner is incredible. Very responsive and gracious! The home is large and convenient to most everything. It has a nice view and was comfortable. There was more space than we needed as it was just two of us. The kitchen is well equipped. The check in was smooth as was the departure.

Great place to stay in Oaxaca Mexico.
Overall, the site of the apartment is excellent, the agent who met us and who helped us settle in was very welcoming and helpful in describing the aspects of the apartment. The owner was quick to respond to question and very helpful. If there is any drawback it is that it is on the bus route (Mixed blessing) - noisy in the am.

Fantastic Stay in Central Oaxaca
Great stay at Casa Crespo.
5.0 / 10.0
Casa Crespo is located where all of the wonders of Oaxaca are easily accessible within a short walk yet it is in it's own little neighborhood that has a charm of its own. The apartment is spacious and a great place to come home to each day after exploring the surrounding towns and villages. The view of Santa Domingo and the valley beyond from the back terrace is breathtaking. Three large bedrooms, three bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, reliable wifi and in-house laundry made for our trip that much more comfortable. Others have made mention of the noise from the busy street and I found it to be more than tolerable. It also tends to die down as the evening progresses. Casa Crespo is in the heart of the city and I expected to city to be somewhat noisy. If you are looking for a modern, comfortable, secure and affordable apartment in Oaxaca, them you need not look any further than Casa Crespo. Edward Packer 12/7/19

This property held 4 people quite comfortably. We loved the fact we could walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. The views from the living room and master bedroom are super. We could watch fireworks nightly from the comfort of home.

Old tired house on noisy street
Poorly maintained house with no charm. Close to nice restaurant and shops balcony in rear has nice view of town one shower didn’t work. Ran out of hot water every day. Don’t understand how this place gets 4-5 stars.

Wonderful time in Oaxaca
Lots of positives for this rental. The apartment was well laid out and close to everything. Very nice to have a washer and dryer available! Jorge was the best. So friendly and accommodating.. Two of the three shower heads were compromised and Jorge was eager to replace.
While the location made it easy to walk everywhere, it was also very noisy. The street noise was loud most nights and sometimes the neighbors and their dogs. This would not keep me from returning to this apartment as there were too many posititives
