As you drive up to this hacienda-style estate and park your car on the sandy drive under the ancient live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, you'll know that you have arrived at a genuinely special place. The mission-style bell tower atop this 'cabana' guest house and the Spanish-style courtyard tucked away behind wrought-iron gates offer the first clues that this was formerly the site of an early 20th-century railroad and streetcar tycoon's Florida get-away. Originally the carriage house for the estate, the guest house just underwent a top-to-bottom renovation making it a luxurious place to stay during the 21st century. Tucked between the Indian River Lagoon and the Sebastian River in the quaint and historic Roseland community, this is a magical spot.
Perched close to the edge of the original art deco swimming pool, from certain angles the cabana appears to be floating on water. At 26 feet by 52 feet, the pool is much larger than typical private pools, and great for serious lap swimming as well as casual wading or floating. Lion fountains at each corner of the pool serve as a reminder of the unique history of this estate. Keep refreshments handy at the attached poolside cabana bar, and you’ll never want to leave the pool!
Inside, the large, open living/dining area features glass doors and windows on all four sides, lending the interior a bright and open feeling even when Florida's famous sunshine is temporarily hidden behind the clouds. Bamboo floors, colorful and casual furnishings, arched windows, and muted pastel-colored walls create a relaxing resort-style space. Two steps down from the living area, a separate, fully-equipped kitchen features ultramodern and vintage appliances, including a dishwasher, microwave hood, and water filtration system. Freshly refurbished with classic Florida materials such as turquoise glass tile, pink enamel appliances, terrazzo floor tiles, and casual white cabinetry, the kitchen boasts large windows overlooking the swimming pool, with a door for easy access to the poolside cabana bar.
A small passageway connects the living area with the bedroom, bathroom, and laundry area with washer and dryer. Built largely of glass block, turquoise tile, terrazzo, and sea glass tile accents, the bathroom glows like a jewel, shimmering and subtly changing color as the sun moves through the sky. The oversized shower is lined with turquoise glass tiles, with a frosted glass door leading to an outdoor shower under the trees.
The separate bedroom with queen-sized bed comfortably sleeps two. A pull-out sleeper sofa in the living room can accommodate an extra guest. A unique arrangement of doors allows occupants of both the living and sleeping areas to retain their privacy while preserving access to the bathroom from either location.
This estate boasts a uniquely beautiful, natural old-Florida setting directly on the pristine and wildlife-friendly Sebastian River, just a mile upstream from the Indian River Lagoon. While lounging at the pool deck, enjoy a sweeping view of the expansive lawn, native and tropical landscaping, small private lagoon, and the river. In addition to the majestic live oaks, the mature landscaping features numerous palm trees and a wide variety of tropical plants.
The nature preserve on the opposite bank of the river ensures that you'll watch the sun set over the palms and flatlands of Florida herself, rather than over someone's condominium complex or a chain hotel. It won't be long before you see fish jumping, dolphins playing, and egrets grazing close to the riverbank.
We designed the interior of this guest house as our vacation home, and it is extraordinarily comfortable for two to four people. The attention to detail with a focus on stylishly casual comfort will set you at ease as soon as you arrive. If you should need more space than the pool house provides, for an additional fee we also offer our nearby "Old Florida Cottage That Time Forgot" see vrbo property #41391. Combined, the houses offer plenty of room for family and friends.
If you’re not familiar with the Sebastian River area, you’re in for a delightful surprise. This is where manatees come to over-winter. Dolphins, birds, fish, and nature-loving humans love the Sebastian River. Pelican Island, the country's first National Wildlife Refuge, was established here over a century ago. Ever since, Sebastian has remained a place that cherishes its natural beauty and makes a special effort to preserve it.
With the Sebastian River and an inviting turquoise pool right outside your door, and with the Indian River, Intracoastal Waterway, and Atlantic Ocean only minutes away, you'll never run out of things to do here. The beaches on the barrier island, across the Indian River lagoon, are practically deserted. Take a ride on the 'Sebastian River Queen Jungle tour,' a pontoon boat tour of the Sebastian River that passes right by your boat dock, on a photo safari quest for dolphins, herons, and alligators. Like surfing? The Sebastian Inlet is one of the top spots on Florida's coast to surf. Feeling really daring? Skydive Sebastian, billing itself as 'Florida's most scenic dropzone,' is only a mile away.
If you tire of the peace and quiet, the attractions of Orlando are just an hour and a half away. Or tour the facilities of NASA's Cape Canaveral, an hour to the north. If you’re lucky enough to be here at the time of a space launch, watch the northeastern skies at launch time for a special treat.
*For your added sense of security, there is one camera near the entrance to the compound and one camera near the entrance to the cabana. For your privacy, ABSOLUTELY NO DEVICES inside the home or poolside.
*Please note that we recommend traveler's insurance in case you have to cancel or postpone your trip for any reason.

Glenn was a very gracious host and the rental was everything we expected and MORE! The pool was amazing and we appreciated that we could use the BBQ. The cabana was very clean and comfortable and it didn’t take long at all for it to feel like home. We also met Brad, the amazing peacock, and he entertained us for hours. We highly recommend the property and will definitely book again for our next trip! Thank you, Glenn!

This is amazing property with outstanding and attentive owners. Their pride in customer service shows and the rundown of the properties extensive history was intriguing. We will definitely return. The Cabana was so immaculate and cute. The pool is relaxing and very private, with a private outdoor shower! Can't beat this!!!!! Thank You.

My wife and I just spent our 34th anniversary at this historic cabana on the Sebastian River. I can tell you that the description and pictures don't do the place justice. The architecture and the ambience of the cabana and it's surrounding gardens make it feel like you are in southern europe as opposed to central florida. The large pool has a deep end so deep it was probably designed to be a diving well. There are all kinds of doors and gates including a door that leads from the bathroom shower to an outside shower then out to the gardens and pool. It has a large backyard leading down to a dock where we watched the sun set every night. It also has a variety of kayaks and canoes available for use on the river. It is definitely designed for a romantic or peaceful getaway. You probably want to avoid this place if you are looking to get rowdy or loud. Peace and quiet is definitely the idea here. Glenn was great and very informative. We had no problems whatsoever, Just don't wade barefoot into the river as the oysters can be very sharp. We definitely will be going back again.

What a hidden gem, so relaxing. Everything is provided. Glenn & Scott are gracious hosts. The pool, dock and grounds were beautiful. Accommodations were comfortable. The homemade cookies were a great touch in the "welcome" basket. Will be back. Thank you.

We had a great experience at this tropical cabana! The place was clean, the cabana was quaint, and the pool was phenomenal! It was located in a quiet and safe neighborhood near all the amenities. Glenn, generously supplied fruit, cookies, and coffee for our stay. We had a lot of privacy as we enjoyed this wonderful Haven.

Totally enjoyed this getaway cottage, would of loved to hear anything on the history of the home. The date in cement by the pool had 1928???
Thank you so much, couldn't use the drip coffee maker, had old dried up coffee grinds still in the filter inside, we managed though.
Thanks Again

We were very happy to find this historical little gem of a place which just shouts "Old Florida" for our weekend getaway. The owner is so passionate about the place and its history, he told us all about it. We loved that. He greeted us with a tour of the Cabana and grounds, home made chocolate chip shortbread (yum), fruits and snacks. The private historic pool is huge and amazing! The Cabana was very clean, well stocked with the necessities and tastefully decorated. I especially enjoyed all the little details that were "Old Florida", as well as the beautiful fresh arrangements in every room, from the garden. I'm jealous for his Mango trees and other fruit trees which lined the lush green property leading you to a private dock to watch a breath-taking sunset. It was just such a sweet find - we will definitely be back!

This immaculate, well-appointed, and delightfully decorated tucked-away spot on the San Sebastian River was the perfect oasis for my husband, daughter, son, and Goldendoodle Max as we gathered to celebrate my mom's life at Riverview Park in Sebastian. Close to groceries, shopping, wonderful restaurants—but with this stunning art deco pool, why would you need to go anywhere else? We barbequed one night and spent lots of time chilling in the peaceful courtyard complete with fountain. The bamboo glades offered shade, even in the heat of the day.
My daughter, an amputee, said the shower is one of the most accessible she's ever used. And have I mentioned the flamingo vibes and vintage decor?
Along with all the practical items needed, including excellent AC, a washer-dryer, dishwasher, and an array of kitchen dishes, cutlery, and appliances, the interior and exterior decor choices are a complete delight. The landscaping is over-the-top gorgeous.
I'll never forget our stay here and hope to return so that I can enjoy some of the things we didn't have time for, like kayaking on the river. Thank you, Glenn, for your kindness—you provided just the right mix of availability and allowing for our privacy and we appreciate you helping to accommodate our special needs.

Hubby and I wanted a relaxing, fun, different Labor Day weekend getaway, and this hidden gem didn’t disappoint. Glenn was very easy to work with from the get go, answering all of my pesky questions and providing great feedback re; local restaurants, accessible by boat. He met us upon arrival, and gave us a very informative tour of this historic and unusual property. The grounds are beautiful, filled with lush landscaping, and a great riverfront dock for securing our 17 foot boat. The dock is also a great place to watch great sunsets, enjoy morning coffee/tea, watch the boats and dolphin go by, and the jump planes dropping off skydivers from the nearby airstrip.?The inside of the cottage is immaculately clean, decorated beautifully (cool retro vibe to go with the history of the property), and lots of nice touches throughout (arrangements using the unusual tropical plants and flowers from the yard, and a goody basket with delicious homemade shortbread). Whole house Very well stocked with whatever you might need, and very private (even though Glenn lives next door in the main house)….. we never saw or heard him all weekend, and felt very secluded and had privacy while swimming in the gorgeous, huge pool. My only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer….we will be back and plan to do some kayaking . Thank you for a great weekend, love this cottage!!!

We didn't get nearly enough time here thanks to our visit being cut short by TS Elsa, but one full day was enough to encourage us to return. The interior's retro charm is only one aspect of its appeal; it's also VERY clean, has a great layout, and one of the most well-stocked kitchens I've encountered in my travels. The outdoor setting feels like you've traveled back in time to old school Florida, which is a welcome change of pace.

This property is simply amazing. The house is very clean, comfortable, and well stocked with kitchen items. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the dolphins in the St Sebastian River and swimming in the pool under the late afternoon shade. The view of the pool and the river is spectacular!

Lovely, private, cozy home tucked away in Florida tropicale.
All you could need was provided from disinfectants to beach/ pool gadgets to make for a fun stay and light travel, so you do not have to pack so much stuff. Take time to immerse yourself in the house and it's surrounding foliage, surprisingly delightful - some history, quirks and abundance of plant life. We got to grill our meals on a Weber gas grill and cooked on a vintage pink stove top/oven as well. Quiet sunsets (and probably glorious sunrises - we slept in), were a treat esp if you regularly miss out on them on day to day commutes.
Thank you , Glenn ! We should come again.

Perfect little spot to enjoy the pool and comforts of home while visiting my brother. Super clean house with such cute decor. Glenn was great in showing us around the property upon arrival and telling us the history of the house. Enjoyed the pool but didn't have time to get out on the kayaks... next time! Thank you.
