About this apartment rental

Dune Nest is a lovely, comfortable and cozy, newly updated one bedroom two bath condo located just seconds to the beach in Duck, NC on the Outer Banks! Our condo is on the 1st floor with fantastic expansive views of the Atlantic ocean beach and dunes. Our ocean front deck is the perfect spot to watch the sunrise over the Atlantic's surf, watch dolphins play and pelicans flying and to idle the day away. Imagine your morning coffee and you on the deck watching the sunrise, listening to the surf, and watching the pelicans flying by as they start their day. Bring your binoculars or use ours for close ups of the dolphins, pelicans, loons, sandpipers, seagulls etc.

Dune Nest offers a master bedroom with a comfy queen-sized bed, newly updated full baths (super convenient for a family), comfortable queen-sized sofa bed, arm chairs, hallway twin bunk beds, modern kitchen, two flat screen TVs (living room and master bedroom), DVD player/movie library, free WiFi, beach chairs and umbrella, Keurig Coffee maker, drip coffee maker, hair dryer, new HVAC system, high-end quiet ceiling fans, dining table for 6, keyless entry system, and much more.

Please note our condo is on the first floor of a three story building with stairs and no elevator. Because the property is built on pilings to manage potential floods, there are 17 steps to reach this first floor unit.

Note: Linens and towels are NOT included in our rental, but can be rented by guests directly with a linen rental company to help guests keep their costs down. Or guests may bring their own linens and towels. Pillows, blankets and quilts are provided.

Our beach-- only steps away from our condo -- features coastal dunes, soft sand, nice surf and great beach combing. We have beach chairs and umbrella for your use during your visit.

In addition to our beach front, our condo community has an outdoor pool (unheated), outdoor grills, basketball and tennis courts (bring your balls and rackets), pool side restrooms, oceanfront showers, ocean front gazebos, and coin operated laundry facilities.

We are only a short 15 minute walk to the lovely, historical village of Duck where you can enjoy the lovely shops, buy groceries, eat at great restaurants and cafes, enjoy sound side sunset views by the bar, sip coffee at Duck Cottage Books, rent bikes to ride on the jogging/biking trails, walk the sound-side boardwalk for bird watching and shopping and eating, and rent canoes, kayaks and other water sports equipment.

Bring your binoculars or use ours to bird watch and get great close ups of dolphins in our surf. Superb viewing from our deck!

I’ll start on a positive note - communication with the owners was good. I liked that the unit was self-entry via a keypad. And I liked that this unit was ocean-facing and just a short boardwalk from the beach. However the property, building, and unit were all very dated and run-down so we were disappointed with our stay. Most importantly was safety; I would not feel comfortable staying there as a single woman as the parking lot and stairwell were poorly lit and there was no deadbolt on the main door. Also, the unit needed a deep clean; although the surfaces appeared “tidy” there was still visible dust in all the corners and on the fans, etc. I’ve never paid for a rental where I was asked to provide my own linens, towels, or toilet paper. Ultimately, I was glad we were forced to bring our own sheets and towels because I wouldn’t have felt clean otherwise. I wonder how long it’s been, if ever, since the comforter or pillows were washed? The bed (queen-sized) desperately needs to be replaced as it has a major sink hole in the center and made it extremely uncomfortable to sleep in. Likewise, the guests are asked to vacuum and take out their own trash, so it brings into question when the unit gets thoroughly cleaned in between guests. For how expensive this place was, it was shocking how little the owners provided for amenities or conveniences. Anyways, this rental is fine if you plan to explore the OBX and not spend much time in the unit beyond sleeping/showering.

This is my second time at this property. Stayed here with my adult daughter at the beginning of summer and I liked it so much I came back myself for the end of summer! Great location right on the beach, watch the sun rise over the Atlantic from the deck. Clean and well stocked, cute property close to lots of restaurants and activities. Can’t beat it!

The beach is fantastic! After you go over the dune, go to your right to set up camp as it’s easier to get out to the sandbar (or at least it was in July ‘24) and you’re closer to the lifeguard station. Our kids had so much fun in the ocean. This is a five-star location as you are maybe 1 minute to getting out on the sand. The condo itself is nice—though it really needs a new queen bed. The bunk beds are great for little kids, but if you have a teen, consider getting linens for the pull-out couch. The bunk bed mattresses could have been a bit more comfy as well. We flew into Norfolk and then drove out to Duck. If you do the same, stop and get toilet paper on the way. I feel like for the price, the owners could provide 4 rolls of toilet paper and 2 rolls of paper towels. The kitchen had all the utensils/plates/cookware but nothing else (oil/spices/etc.) We had planned to use the owner’s umbrella and chairs, but they were all rusted-out and broken. However, after contacting the owner, they quickly replaced them, which was very nice. If you can afford it, hire a company to set up umbrellas and chairs for you on the beach every day. You’ll get the best spot and then you will only have to bring down boogie boards, drinks, and towels. We rented an umbrella, linens, and a boogie board from Ocean Atlantic Rentals—the whole process was easy. Overall, it was a great location and we loved the beach. Duck is a super-cute town with great restaurants and much better than Kitty Hawk.

We loved our stay at Dune Nest! The property has amazing ocean views and is well stocked with everything you need. Our 4 year old loved the bunk beds, and the privacy curtains made it easy for her to fall asleep while we stayed up and enjoyed the deck. The mattress and pillows in the master bedroom were the only negatives--very worn and uncomfortable.
