About this cottage rental
What a nice, peaceful place for a family getaway! Owasco Lake is one of the more undiscovered finger lakes, so if it's a little R&R you are looking for, this is the spot. New central air so no worries about being uncomfortable on those hot summer nights.... We also recently finished a large remodel to the first floor living area and kitchen. It is now one big open floor plan with fabulous views of the lake! The cottage now has new cabinetry, soapstone countertops, and all new appliances. There is a bedroom and full bath on the first floor and three small bedrooms and a half bath upstairs.
The lakefront here is very clean and great for swimming and water activities, not to mention the excellent fishing! Use the two kayaks on site, rowboat, fish off the dock, bring your own boat or rent a motorboat from a nearby marina. You are sure to catch perch, bass, pike, trout, and maybe some walleye. The level beachfront, along with a gradual walk into the water, make this property perfect for people of all ages!
This early 1900's cottage has had new flooring installed throughout and has updated baths. Brand new couches and all new high quality mattresses in 2019. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake from anywhere on the first floor or lounge on the spacious lakeside deck with comfy dining and patio furniture. Sit back, relax and watch the kids and family enjoy the water right from the deck.

We visited in November and enjoyed a warm and cozy lake atmosphere. We ate in and dined out and explored the area. We had a wonderful stay.

We reviewed the photos and reviews of this property and were looking forward to checking in and enjoying a few days of vacation. Our arrival and check in consisted of entering an unlocked open cottage and being assaulted with what smelled like a curious mixture of mold and mice feces.
We were dismayed by the dilapidated condition of this cottage. Our photos are very different than the photos that were presented on the VRBO webpage. We will include them so that all can see what we saw.
Within minutes of arriving, wife began getting watery eyes, itchy skin and difficulty breathing. We immediately began looking for a clean hotel to check into for the night. We were unable to endure the mold and filth for more than an hour so we finished our search in our car.
Besides the pervasive odor of mold, some of the highlights of our experience related to this filthy unsafe “cottage” were noting that the furnace with visible open flame was inches away from a highly flammable curtain serving in the place of what should have been a fire block or door.
The Circuit breaker box had appeared to be old spaghetti painted over wiring emanating from and haphazardly stuffed into an old ceiling material.
The stairs upstairs were narrow, uneaten, filthy, and certainly not up to code.
The dock was uneven unstable and unsafe. The back deck was filthy and filled with old wet leaves.
The upstairs had multiple unsafe uneven flooring variations that are obvious trip hazards.

Great place for “short runaway”. Beautiful cottage and super nice host. Right on the lake with private dock and a smal beach. Super!!!

My boyfriend, sister and brother-in-law rented this lovely home on the shore of Owasco Lake. We loved the way it was decorated! It had a large deck with patio furniture, full size grill and a long table for outdoor dining. It was a few short steps to the water and dock which were only slightly lower than the grassy area. (No steep inclines or steps!) It had one bedroom and bathroom in the ground level and other bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom with toilet and sink. The kitchen was large enough for us to cook several full meals, the appliances, counter and kitchen table were all very nice. It had all the cookware and serving ware we needed and we prepared several full meals while there. The living room had comfortable furniture that would seat 7+ people. The AC and heat worked well. There was a wood fire area near the water and we used that several times. We launched our boat from the boat launch on the north side of the lake then docked it at the house. I highly recommend taking a boat trip down the canal as it was beautiful and the so was the park area around it. On rainier days, we took a trip to Skaneateles and toured some of the small shops and restaurants. On another rainy day, we drove all the way around Cayuga lake, stopping to do some wine tasting at some lovely wineries. The owner of this property responded to our inquiries and provided a lot of great information. We could be more pleased with our vacation there.

No problems, easy stay, very comfortable, with a double rainbow over the lake. Magical!

We had a great stay at this house. The house is older and quirky, but extremely clean and high quality sheets. I do agree with some of the other reviews that the upstairs could be hard for elderly people to access. The stairs were very sturdy, but narrow. Then once upstairs you have to step down into 2 of the bedrooms.

Christine is a fabulous host!!!

All our questions and concerns about the property and pier were answered prior to booking by Ms. Izzo. We found out all answers we were given were accurate. We spent a very comfortable four days in a fully equipped house. All appliances worked properly. Bedding and furniture were very clean and comfortable. The gas grill which we used also worked. Thanks Christine

Property was thoughtfully stocked and host responds very quickly to messages. However, the entire house needs a deep clean. The sofa and pillows stunk terribly. The rooms are small, which was fine, but the ceiling was collapsing down in some of them. Overall, property is in a beautiful location but pictures do not accurately portray all of it.

The location was very relaxing. Right on the lake. Close to my son's college. Host responded quickly if you had a question. The only down fall is the bedrooms were tight and small.

Our family congregated here for my son's college graduation from Cornell (a very long drive from Ithaca but we wanted a well-appointed kitchen, expansive view, and relaxed vibe). Grandparents ended up not being able to attend which was good since the narrow, steep stairwell to the upper level was very difficult to manage and would be dangerous for anyone over 50 (we had the kids stay in the upper level). The bedrooms were very small, and the largest one downstairs where we slept required leaving the room from one door and entering the opposite door to get to the other side of the bed since the bed went from wall to wall. The kitchen was well-appointed for our small group and the living room was comfortable for gathering. The ceilings were quite low and had water damage in areas which was unfortunate, but overall the property was fairly charming. We were disappointed the patio from where we imagined enjoying the lake view was not cleaned prior to our arrival. It was covered with yard debris (which I understand may not be controlled) and so much bird poop that it was impossible to find an area to sit on and difficult even to walk in bare feet to access the yard. That being said, we did enjoy our time but felt some maintenance was overdue.

Perfect family vacation (My husband and myself, our son, daughter-in-law and two grandkids (21 & 11). The location was great. Exactly as pictured on the VRBO site. Lovely open concept living and kitchen area. Very clean and well stocked. Comfy cute bedrooms. Nice deck and yard with plenty of shade or sun. Nice quiet beach area with a lovely view of the sunrise and daily visits from the ducks on the lake.
We enjoyed the fire pit, the kayaks, grilling and hanging out on the deck or on the comfortable furniture in the living room. Would definitely come back.

Fun, relaxing, beautiful view! We had a group ages 19-79 and everyone loved it and had a great time!
Wether it’s watching the osprey cruise over the lake in search of fish or just sitting enjoying a glass of wine watching the beautiful sunset, this place is a peaceful get away from everyday life stress!
The yard is flat, so easy access to the lake. We enjoyed using the kayaks (life jackets of all sizes available) and swimming near the dock. The fire pit is relaxing to sit around, make s’mores and star gaze.
The deck on the house is large, has a nice grill and plenty of seating. We had family dinners here and just hung out talking, enjoying the view!
The inside of the home has been remodeled and it’s gorgeous! The kitchen is well stocked with everything you can imagine. The living room furniture is very comfy. We enjoyed playing chess, watching Netflix and experiencing a big lightning storm roll in over the lake one night, very cool! The bedrooms are comfy and nicely decorated. We were there during a ‘heat warning’ and the central air worked fantastic! So glad they had that!
Last but not least, our host Christine was fabulous! She checked in with us to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.
If you’re looking for a great property right on the shores of beautiful Owasco Lake to enjoy family & friends, or just a quiet get get away, book this place! You’ll love it!

Cute little Finger Lakes lake house
We had an enjoyable week with my family and my sister July 2022. This little lake house is a classic Finger Lakes lake house that has a renovated kitchen and living room.
Pros: modern kitchen with all the amenities to cook meals for a vacation stay at the lake. The WiFi is strong and up to date. The living room has two comfortable new couches and armchair.
Cons: The downstairs bathtub needs updating but the water pressure is great. There is a Mildred smell and the upstairs driveway facing bedroom we couldn’t use because of the mildew smell. There is evidence of water damage from roof leaks in the bedrooms
The upstairs is teeny with low ceilings. If you’re taller than 5’7” you’ll have to stoop to avoid hitting your head on eves and some beams. The linens supplied were excellent, however the beds could use some updating. The beach has extensive lake grass for a long way out from shore so we were not able to swim from the shore. There is a dock but it’s rickety and I wouldn’t tie up a boat to it. There are kayaks in decent shape available.
Overall, if you are used to older Finger Lakes lake houses this place was clean and decent with some items that could be improved on the property. The owner is very responsive and nice.

Overpriced - Oversold - Smells of mildew.
The dock displayed does not belong to the property. The dock belonging to the property is not stable. Also - while the kitchen and living room were updated - the other rooms had severe water damage and the cottage smelled of mildew or mold. I have photos to show the disrepair. Property owner stated that the tiles falling down in the bedrooms and walls were "due to a flood 5 years ago"! (So - WHY have they not yet been repaired when charging this high rent???) No wonder it reeks of mold! The banister at the top of the stair case is wobbly and it is doubtful that this property would pass a proper inspection. Boar oar was broken and dock not clean (not even swept). We left a day early and notified the owner that we could not breathe that air any longer. She simply told us we should have told her about the boat oar being broken earlier (which is correct - we should have left immediately and asked for a full refund). Lake was not swimmable due to high seaweed (not raked at all). Biggest issue was tiles falling in on ceilings and walls of sleeping areas and the smell of mold. Kitchen was welled stocked - and living area was nice. View is lovely. The cottage had all new floor mats and towels. But the order of mildew was unbearable. If you are not satisfied - contact owner and VRBO directly immediately and ask for a full refund! Or better yet - find somewhere else to rent. We waited and outlined our concerns to the owner directly via text. We sked for our final day to be credited. The owner did not even give us the courtesy of a response. That says it all !

Not as represented
The house is liveable, but definitely not what is represented on line. The house is very old, and everything is very cheap and flimsy. The kitchen cabinets need to be replaced, or at the very least, repaired and painted. One of the drawers is not supported when opened, making is a difficult task to remove anything from the drawer. All of the utensils are old, cheap, and worn. They should all be replaced. The house was not stocked with the usual items such as soap, shampoo, and paper products.
The price is much too high for the quality (or lack of quality) of the amenities.
I think the property should be represented more accurately, so there are no surprises when you arrive.

Great family vacation!
The cottage was neat and clean overall and the property was as advertised. Great lakefront with beautiful views, especially sunrise and sunset! Beds were comfortable. Porch was great to sit and enjoy the lake breeze, as was just sitting on the lakeshore! Close to many restaurants. Christine was responsive to any questions we had. We had a great week, and hope to go back!

Relaxing Labor Day weekend
Very nice property for my family. Our kids are 9 & 7 and they loved being able to walk out in the water and how friendly the ducks were! The house is exactly as listed and the owner was very responsive to any questions. Was a great end to our summer :)

Cottage
Owner was very kind and answered all my questions promptly. We had a wonderful time here on our Mom’s get away after a long 6 months of quarantine with our kids. It was close to many restaurants and shops. We traveled to skeneatles and it wasn’t far at all. Gorgeous lake views. The house is older and pictures online were a bit misleading, could use some updating. Had a majority of items we needed and Main surfaces were clean! We enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Cute!
Our family really needed a new view before school started. This cottage fit the bill. Christine patiently answered all my questions so we knew what to pack. We were thrilled to find plenty of kitchen supplies and towels. We bought some inflatable kayaks for our trip - heaven! But you can rent on the lake too. We purchased firewood from a place up the road at Christine’s suggestion and had a fire in the pit. So relaxing.

READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE BOOKING
This property is in far worse shape than the photos indicate. In addition, upon our arrival it was filthy. The owner said that was because the usual cleaner was unavailable. Perhaps that was true, but the filth had built up over a long time. There were mouse droppings ( and several of our bags were gnawed through!!) a moldy air conditioner, wood rot, inside window frames crammed with dirt...
The air conditioning was inadequate
( 2018 review response said that would soon be corrected...)and no door screens. So, to allow for a cool breeze, you have to allow for the many expected lake insects. We also encountered a colony of bats and a colony of yellow jackets living in the roof/ siding. Christine was unaware of both, and they were more of an interest than bother. I believe Christine WAS unaware. That’s the problem! She should be far more aware of the condition of her property if she is going to represent it as “ nicely remodeled” and post photos that show a clean, inviting lake house.

Very nice stay. Close to stores and outlets as well as Skaneateles if you have a rainy day. Looking forward to another stay. I was able to park a 21 ft boat at the dock without problem.

Beautiful Location
This house is a quaint oasis on beautiful Owasco Lake! The house was described accurately in the listing. It was neat and clean upon arrival. Check-In and Check-Out were easy. Christine, the owner, is friendly and easy to communicate with. There is plenty to do nearby, with the Cayuga Wine Trail and Skaneateles nearby. We had a wonderful stay.
