About this house rental
Named after the smallest of North American falcons, which nest in nearby trees, "Kestrel's Perch" was recently reimagined - from the bottom up - in the spirit of a comfortable mid-century hilltop retreat, emphasizing the property's spectacular views of the Valley, private setting and access to the surrounding amenities of northwest Boise.
The 1000 sq ft home features a large master bedroom, 2nd bedroom (also nicely suitable as office), well-lit kitchen/living room and italian-tiled bathroom.
The Space
Deirdre and I spent almost six months renovating "Kestrel's Perch", making design and layout choices that, we hope, will make for a truly special travel experience for our guests. The result is a crisp, clean, uncluttered space that's been accentuated by furniture choices and features that enhance the comfort and natural appeal of "The Perch's" hilltop setting. It's definitely not a stretch to use the cliched phrase "one-of-a-kind" property to describe the Kestrel's Perch.
The 1000 sq. ft. home features a large master bedroom, second bedroom with captain's bunk-style queen bed (also nicely suitable as an office), well-lit kitchen/living room and italian-tiled bathroom. The kitchen is fully outfitted with new stainless-steel appliances, quartz countertops and spacious white cabinets.
Our guests who find themselves in Boise on a business venture will be pleased to note the wall-to-wall, built-in desk (with drawers) in the second bedroom, should the lovely terrace prove to be too much of an indulgent distraction.
In addition to plenty of closet space, the large utility room (with new washer/dryer) may also be used to store bikes, skis or other gear securely.
An ample carport will keep you and your vehicle dry and cool, in the case of inclement or unseasonably hot weather.
In addition to all the basic amenities, Kestrel's Perch also comes equipped with:
- small kitchen appliances such as juicer, bullet blender, food processor, crock pot and coffee grinder
- two 50" HD televisions, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom
- covered backyard patio
- outdoor table/seating for four
- garden benches
- large Weber BBQ
Guest Access
A large carport provides a nice dry environment to the front entry of "The Perch". Guests will be provided with a unique code to keypad-enabled deadbolt on the front door. Backdoor and Utility Room also have separate access ways.
The Neighborhood
Just off the northend foothills travel corridor of Hill Road, the home's location is a convenient headquarters to access to shopping (5 min), downtown (10 min), Boise's "Ridge To Rivers" system (Stewart Gulch trailhead is 1/2 mile away @ Hillside Jr. High) or Hwy 55 for longer excursions north to recreational towns like Garden Valley or McCall.

The home was very clean and decor was retro. I loved the nice amenities in the bathroom. Great views from the hillside.

This was a clean and comfortable stay in the Boise foothills. Easy access to everywhere you need and the views can’t be beat. The kitchen is well appointed and the bed was very comfortable.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed Kestrel Perch. We ended up spending a good amount of time at the property itself, due to the smoky air quality during our visit. Great views, comfy bed in the primary, and we had some wildlife visit the yard. The kitchen is quite small, but suited our purposes just fine. Nice little place!

We absolutely loved our stay here. It was the best treasure to experience in Treasure Valley. Truly loved this house.

We enjoyed our stay here. It’s very peaceful and quiet with a good view. We saw a deer in the yard yesterday morning and lots of singing birds. Very comfortable and relaxing place to stay.

After a simple snafu with the computer pdf, all was great! Host was super friendly and gave us a nice summary of the place! Highly recommended when going to Boise. We would definitely stay again!

This home is the cutest, most beautiful getaway! The home overlooks the valley with gorgeous views and a fun covered patio and terrace backyard! The home is awesome, so modern and clean, and really felt so comfy and homey! The house had all the amenities we needed and was so warm and inviting! We didn't get to see any kestrels, as it was raining and snowing, but we did go to the Birds of Prey Center and saw some amazing birds there! What a perfect getaway, and fun place to stay!

We found it! The "home" away from home you want to return to time and time again. Definitely will stay here again.
This home is beautifully bright and airy. Master bedroom is very comfortable as was the 2nd bedroom for our daughter. We spent thanksgiving perched here, enjoyed preparing our thanksgiving together in the well appointed kitchen. The fall view overlooking Boise was gorgeously stunning and the evening colors were phenomenal. We did not have icy or snow conditions, that would of been our "only" concern as the home is atop a slight hill. It's close enough to parks, the greenbelt, shopping and restaurants, for us it was a win, win stay. Price point is very good, we say this based on our recent 10wk stint in Maine which we found to be atrociously expensive,

Fabulous stay...roomy updated mid century home secluded on the hillside and surrounded by foliage. All amenities, small galley kitchen and comfortable king mattress. Great for pups too. Coming back!

Overall the property was very nice, quiet and comfortable. We had a funny start with an alarm going off, but finally figured it all out and then had no other issues. Host was very nice and we met a neighbor in the process. Close to everything, but seems like you are away from society. We enjoyed our time there and would recommend it.

The place has some incredible potential. Great views. Newer interior. But overall we were very disappointed in the presentation and usability of the place. The entire exterior looked like a hurricane blew through and no cleanup had been done yet. The patio and furniture were coated in droppings from the oak trees. And landscaping was entirely in disarray. Unkept. Untrimmed. Stains on the concrete from something leaking inside the shed. We could not use the outside without cleaning off the furniture and all the surfaces. So we did not, other than the covered bench on the porch. Very disappointing. The shower door rubber seals are torn. Love the tile work though. The sink soap dispenser was used up bath gel with water added to use up that last bit of leftover soap. And the master BR does not have complete shades installed for privacy. The guide book should be placed in a binder with all the info you would like to share. Including WiFi code as it needed to be input into the tv twice as it kept telling us it had no WiFi. And pulling it off the router became a chore in getting the code exact. And finally the door code should have been sent via email saving both of us the phone call and interrupting your workout. It might be worth your visiting your property and making sure the people you pay to take care of it are doing just that. I am not trying to not pick. My wife and I stay in a lot of vrbos and we know what is good and what is not. Place could be great if the issues are fixed

Great little house for a small family. Very relaxing with an excellent view and comfortable seating. The outside patio is very nice but was too cold to enjoy. Summertime would be very enjoyable!

After much discussion, we decided to take our dog on a long road trip to Boise. This was our first time using VRBO & was searching for a pet friendly house. This met the bill. Remote just out of the city, great view, very quiet. The house is stocked with everything you need-minus the food, of course. When we were outside, we did keep our dog on leash, because we weren't sure if he would try to squeeze through. We only stayed 2 nights, but would have liked to stay longer.
Thank you for the nice sunset & the wandering deer.
Of we were to return to Boise, we would stay again.

SO worth it!
We stayed in Quail Ridge for an entire month and we loved every minute of it. The house is fantastic and the view is even better. We were close to everything -- parks, groceries, downtown, and restaurants. Jeff, the owner could not have been more accommodating and we have no doubt we will return to this property on our next stay in Boise. If you're wondering whether you should choose this one, DO IT -- you will not regret it!

Great Experience
The location of Kestrel's Perch was perfect with privacy and great view and within 10 minutes of shopping and restaurants. An excellent coffee shop down the road, a city park and great golf course 5 minutes away. Boise is a great city and we loved it.

Lovely setting
The property is modern, updated and comfortable. The views are wonderful. Small but well appointed kitchen.
I rated cleanliness a 3 only because the Bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned. It appeared the person stopped partway through.. interrupted?? Overall though the place was clean.
Would return again.

Excellent and calming spot
I stayed at The Perch for nearly two months after selling my home here in Boise and awaiting a new home. It was a truly amazing spot during my transition. The neighbors were friendly and chatty, the view is just amazing and the location allowed me plenty of areas to walk my dog. The host, Jeff, was an excellent communicator and made me feel most welcome. If I needed another spot for me or visiting friends, I couldn’t recommend it enough.

City Oasis
You are 1.6 miles from the Greenbelt, but feel like you are in a country hideaway, tucked up on a hill with a great serene view from the porch, and even the breakfast nook and living room with the great big windows. It was very quiet and peaceful, comfortable with just about everything you need in a kitchen except a coffee pot. Loved having the gas grill BBQ to be able to cook some of our meals. Owner was very responsive to questions we had along the way. The neighbors even stopped by one evening with a loaf of sourdough bread fresh from the oven. I didn’t know that type of thing happened anymore!

Boise Wedding
I reserved this property prior to all the COVID changes. We were traveling from SoCal to Boise for the wedding of my BFF’s son- and I would not have missed this in spite of all the restrictions. Jeff kept in contact with us over the previous 6 months prior to our arrival. The pictures of the property were accurate. The home is close to the best of Boise. We enjoyed walking our dogs along the greenbelt parks which are nearby. The hillside neighborhood feels secluded and has beautiful views. The cozy light filled house and large garden allow for a relaxing stay. The king size bed was very comfortable. I would definitely choose this property again for future trips.

The Perch is an idyllic getaway
The Perch met all our needs. Close to Hyde Park, hiking, downtown and the green belt, the Perch is central to what Boise has to offer. Being dog friendly with an adequate, though compact kitchen, and comfortable furnishings, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to next year.

Quiet and Comfortable Place in town

Feels like home
It feels like home as soon as you enter. It was clean and very quite. The views were beautiful while sitting outside with a glass of wine. The location is not far from Boise Airport and close enough to shops and restaurants. The owners are only a text away if you need anything. The places they recommend to eat at were extremely good and satisfying. They strive to insure your comfort and happiness with their home. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again if/when we get a chance to visit Boise. Thank you Jeff and Deirdre. :-)

Will be our home away from home!
House was beautifully updated inside. The kitchen is narrow. It's pretty much a one-person kitchen if you're cooking. That wasn't a problem since it was only my husband and me. Kitchen was well stocked. We brought our own coffee maker and coffee. There was a french press coffee maker available. Plenty of dishes, pots and pans available. We didn't use the oven nor the dish washer. The electric stove top worked fine. Used it just a couple of times. The king bed, very comfortable, was better than the one we have at home. It's comfortably decorated going for the mid-modern style. The living room could use a couple lamps possibly. The home is on a hill. The view from the living room/dining room and porch is awesome! The only negative we could find would be water pressure isn't the greatest in the bathtub but it wasn't a deal breaker. Shower pressure was fine. We definitely will be back again. There's no need to look elsewhere! Thank you for sharing your home for 8 days with us!
